The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Tonight’s topic is a bit different. We will let music inspire our conversation among instructional coaches and educators in the #INeLearn network.
Each “question” will involve tapping into a love of music and relating it to what we do every day.
Greetings! This is my first Twitter chat. I'm stoked to learn from everyone. Kudos to @dianargill for meeting us in person to help us navigate. #INeLearn
While I've been home alone for the summer, I've been writing increasingly complicated cat-themed parodies of "Part of Your World" from Little Mermaid. Happy to be out of the house with grownups tonight! #INeLearn
Hey #inelearn! Michele here from Wayne Township! Excited for tonight's chat. My song that I can't get enough of right now is Have It All by Jason Mraz... All the feels!
A1: Was blessed this year to have some transition time by transitioning to a new district. This allowed me to really reflect and spend some significant time with family. Working on that mental health has been important for me this summer. #INeLearn
R1: Family comes first! I work as hard and as quickly as I can in the time I have between family activities so that I can relax and unplug when family is together. #INeLearn#EdTech
New fav song is Maroon 5 “Girls Like You”. Old school? “Old Man” by Neil Young. Rap? Dre and Tupac “California Love” Kid era? “American Girl” by Tom Petty #INeLearn
A1: I'm actually taking a week off, which I NEVER do. Ready to get back at it on Monday morning, but just disconnecting has been good for me. #inelearn
R1: Free time? Relax? I haven’t gotten there yet. This was supposed to be my free week and life has had a sense of humor. I just roll with it. ☺️ #INeLearn
R1: I keep a "to-do" list on my notes in my iPhone. I feel excitement when I can erase something off of the list. Although, some days I'm just pure lazy and feel that "teacher guilt". I'm working on that mental block . . . ha, ha! #INeLearn
My fave baseball player walk up song (Gordan Beckham for the White Sox) is https://t.co/KMyJA9c5VG (I know this isn't the question, but I love love love this song!) #INeLearn
https://t.co/worr9adhjJ
R2: I'm pretty strict and intense . . . (not serious at all . . . but there are moments I'd love to blare this song). #INeLearn
I thought this was going to be my true “lazy” week, but we’ve been in the hospital for most of it. But I’m a silver lining gal, and we’ve managed to eek out some good quality time together. #INeLearn
R2: Right now, because I have a 3yo who is transfixed with this move...it's this one. This Is Me - Greatest Showman. We all come with baggage...Ss and Ts. How we deal with it is what matters.
https://t.co/6Xd9dCgPvR#INeLearn
R3: my husband and I performed Jackson by Johnny and June Carter Cash at Thanksgiving for our families. He and I have been practicing More Than Words by Extreme. Probably neither appropriate for the classroom 😜 #INeLearn
R3: definitely Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” because it’s always my go to. Somewhere there’s video of our teacher lip sync my first year of teaching where I’m the led role in the skit featuring hat song. #thosewerethedays#iwasmuchyoungerthen#INeLearn
Oh, I never formally introduced myself. Seventh grade E/LA teacher 11 years and counting. I currently teach 7th grade at Willowcreek in Portage and coach cross country. #INeLearn
R4: When I taught in Hammond I had a playlist called the "Bor-Monster" that was designed to fit the mood of driving 80 mph boxed in between steel haulers. Friday jam was "Dare You To Move" by Switchfoot. #INeLearn
R5: Not really what this question is looking for, but the day a kid showed me this video was one of the top 3 best things in my class this year: https://t.co/BezTp0jkAe

R6: I love playing Vitamin String Quartet... It's instrumental pop music. I find words distracting when I'm working or studying, so I love that one for classroom background music. #INeLearn
R6: I can't walk and chew gum, so I don't frequently play music in the background unless it's instrumental. If it makes sense, I'll allow the students to listen to music on their phones or iPads. So long as they don't spend 20 minutes choosing . . . #INeLearn
#INeLearn A6 Always enjoy playing Vangelis’s Chariots of Fire. Great instrumental song from 1982. Also enjoy sharing Beethoven, Bach and Mozart with the Ss.
R6: John Williams playlist on Pandora... It usually starts with Star Wars or Jurassic Park to get warmed up. Then we play, "What movie is this from?" #INeLearn
R6: My teammate plays the Beatles at a super low volume. A fellow math T plays a special instrumental CD connected to brain-based research. Personally, I go with allowing kids to listen to their own music. #INeLearn
I created pandora stations with my students when I was in the classroom. Not sure that was in line with TOS, but I totally did that and the Ss loved it. #INeLearn
We watch the whole show no fewer than 6-7 times per week in the car :>O I also have the soundtrack on my phone to listen to in the car that doesn't have a DVD player!! Good thing I like the show myself!! #INeLearn
R6: For my IED classes I pick a Pandora station to fit the mood while they work in Inventor: Jack Johnson or Motown or Dinner Soul in the morning, Chili Peppers or Anberlin or Screamo in the pm. #inelearn
R7: I ask my students for a list of songs during the year to add to YouTube playlist. I always listen to the songs at home before I play them in class. #INeLearn
R7: I allow my Ss to listen to music anytime they are working on things. It doesn’t bother me that they do this during work time or during test/quizzes. I do not create a playlist. #INeLearn
R7 I even play the radio...I know. The @SBRileyhigh student lead radio station is next door to my class. I know the music will be appropriate. #INeLearn
R7: Pandora's blocked, Spotify is good to go, and I love a couple of Youtube playlists. I know, not cutting-edge buts get the job done for me & my students. #inelearn
Sorry, I haven't joined in the chat for a long time, but I just logged on. I teach US History and will be teaching Gov. and Econ this year at Attica High School #INeLearn
R8: I will forever remember our middle school cross country coaches playing this before our meets. Such a wonderful part of my developmental years. I hope I'm impacting my runners like my coaches did for me. #INeLearnhttps://t.co/q4UNOFSjdz
R8: my teachers REFUSED to let us listen to music. But we used to carry our gym bags around and I had my Sony Walkman in my bag with the “License to Ill” Beastie Boys album or “Crushin” Fat Boys album. Classics. #JrHighTimes#KidOfThe80s#INeLearn
R8: My journalism teacher was a straight-up unreconstructed 60s hippie. She used to always talk about "Gracie" Slick so I've always associated Jefferson Airplane with her. Other than that I don't recall any teacher playing or talking about music, ever. Different era. #inelearn
R8: Are you kidding me? We had reel to reel videos and film strips when I was a kid. It had to be SILENT all the time in classes with rows, folder blinders, and mimiograph liquid! #INeLearn#YesImOld#ThatSmellThough
R8: I had a teacher in my US History class do an entire unit on the counter culture music of the 70’s. It was so much fun to break down the meaning behind a song. #INeLearn
R8: I can’t think of any in K-12 but my college history professor at BSU would play a different song each day that went with the lesson. I definitely remember Pink Floyd The Wall. #inelearn
Preach!! My teacher would fall asleep with the reel going and the only way they woke up was the film smacking over and over after the movie was over. This was before VHS. #INeLearn
R8: @kperin8 played music for us as students and we did some deep dives in AP English on lyrics. It was amazing. Won't forget "We didn't start the Fire" #INeLearn
I can still remember the "ding" and all of us fighting over who got to turn the film strip projector when the sound happened! That was before the thing advanced by itself. And that was high tech!!
#INeLearn
WU: the rest of my summer is going to be “Get This Party Started” and “Old Macdonald Had a Farm” as I go back to the office soon and we get a dozen calves and 15 pigs ready for the county fair. #neveradullmoment#INeLearn
Aww, @dianargill & @SethPonder & the rest of my #INeLearn tribe, you guys made my Thursday night! Thanks all for a superfun chat. Enjoy the weekend and I'll catch you next week.
WU: Besides attending an awesome music fest, the Evillage conference, and seeing friends, my summer has been lackluster. I need to leave my comfort zone and be more spontaneous. So, I need some pa-pa-pa-passion in my life! #INeLearnhttps://t.co/fYgdXgh4Gk
Old.... My first group of kids I taught are turning 40 this year. One of my formers is the director of guidance at my current school. Yeah... #INeLearn
WU: Rest of my summer is pretty much looking like The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars. Gotta stock up on sleep while we can! Thanks for the awesome chat everybody. Can't wait to do it again! #INeLearn#twitternovice
