The #2PencilChat is a weekly conversation about educational technology. As we enter a more student-centered age, let's talk about using all the tools in our toolboxes to be innovative and dynamic teachers.
John Kline from WeVideo. In California. Been a great day at WeVideo - we just had an acceptance offer on our Chief Education Officer role. He's often on Twitter and doing keynotes and we are excited to have him. Big announcement on that in January! #2pencilchat
A1) Coding tools work magic for me. I love using Code-a-pillar, Bee Bots, Finch Roberts, Sphero, Ollie, BB-8, SPRK+ and Osmo with students. #2PencilChat
A1 my newly developed magical power is music! I am teaching myself to play the ukulele via YouTube. I love using it in the classroom for lessons and celebrations #2pencilchat
A1) I believe in magic, happens every morning...I get morning hugs, smiles, high 5s, notes, and STORIES from my kids, they keep coming back excited for more #IFeelTheLove#DoYouBelieveInMagic#2pencilchat
A1: well Im not in the classroom anymore and I work for WeVideo - so it'llbe a shameless plug. But we've just done a teacher survey and the feedback is incredible. #2pencilchat
Very true @MagicPantsJones I am truly hoping to find a company I’m an ambassador for whom I could further my relationship with because that developed relationship would make things so much more relevant! You just never know! #2pencilchat
A2: I feel like when I am really "on", I am really a lot more entertaining and interesting to listen to.
Also teachers who are really good at presenting are really refreshing to listen to.
#2PencilChat
A2 Benefits are that Ss talk, spread the word amongst each other, build up some positive buzz. Magic in that it can often bring along the doubters/haters. Magic creates a fan club. Who doesn't enjoy that?! #2PencilChat
Isn't that the BEST? I remember when I was a young teacher, they cheered to get a sub. The back half of my teaching? "We have a sub tomorrow," - "Awwwwww, no....."
#2PencilChat
A3) My magic comes from taking risks, trying new things, stepping outside my comfort zone, learning from my mentors, having fun and reflecting on how to always get better! #2PencilChat
A2. Total captivation- mouths hanging open, you could hear a pin drop, and kids are on the edges of their seats- that's what happens when they are watching a magic show! #2PencilChat
A3 A time machine & crystal ball. They have the ability to travel back in time, revisit and learn from their fails. They have the ability to look to the future and intentionally steer it down the right path. #2PencilChat
A3: I think it's really important to have mentor teacher models that you click with and a healthy relationship with either an art form or passion project #2PencilChat
A3. I try to soak in as much magic as I can from the amazing Ts around me! You have to be Ron, and become friends with the Hermiones and Harrys #2PencilChat
A3 #2pencilchat I studied Ron Clark, Kim Bearden,& Mem Fox to bring the magic in my early start. I also observed great staff members who brought the magic. I thought how can I add what they do into my style?
A4:) The best magic is the most simple. If I am at odds, I choose the path that is the most joy-filled. It sets the stage for magic to happen. #2PencilChat#mixedmetaphors
A4 I find that there's some residual magic if you've been doing it right. "Hey everybody, I feel awful today, can you go easy on me?" is a spell that works if you've done the work to put everything in place.

So true! It was a tough transition from school to working at home! Not being around kids has really changed my energy. Adjusting, but I still need to stop in and visit schools!
#2PencilChat
A4: It can be difficult for me to summon teacher magic on a day where I have a migraine. 😦 When my powers are not working I just keep going and do the best I can.
#2PencilChat
A4 To be honest the magic is always great but I can do this daily by knowing my kids, loving them, adding humor, and being joyful every day nomatter what. Kids should always see me as one of the most balanced people they know. #2pencilchat
A4 some days are less than magical, it's hardest when teachers or Ss aren't feeling well. Taking care of ourselves and modeling that is important. For me it's vocal health #2PencilChat
A2: For my particular magic it seems to garner trust. I also admire the magic of @MrsUhShafer and how she gets kids to try so much harder than they thought they could #2PencilChat
Not every day is magical (after 15 years). Being real and effective is more important. Usually kids draw me a picture or write me a note and my frustration/negativities get in check. #2PencilChat
A4. It's important to take a step back every once in a while and see what magic Ss are capable of! Let them lead, cast the spells, and brew their own learning potions! #2PencilChat

A3: I stopped worrying about how it looked when I acted crazy for my kids. I also stopped being hurt by Ss who didn’t know how to embrace my support and instead pushed back. #2PencilChat
A5: being sick, being tired, being at not good PD.
I get it back by forcing myself to list positives until I feel better. I list positives for the kids too when they are having a bad day. #2PencilChat
A5 Saps me- multiple challenges in one day, usually in 3's. What restores is music, quiet time, motivational people, and my family...and chats like this! #2pencilchat
A5. Self doubt can be a major magic-drainer, especially when planning/ presenting a new idea. I restore and find confidence by connecting with innovative minds (on Twitter, in books, and at school) #2PencilChat
A5: Stress, assessment day, full moons, holidays, pd, paperwork. Breathe, vent, leave it at the door. Thankfully every day is different and somehow you forget them quickly. #2PencilChat
A5 Most magic zapping apparatus: a mandatory Power Point presentation. Magic Restoring: great PD with my music PLN or twitter chats with Ts like you all! #2PencilChat
A6 EdCamp, Blogging, Chatting, Mentoring, ECET2, passing it on by example. It works best if you're asked for guidance, rather than if you're offering it.
#2PencilChat
A6) I believe we pass our magic on by sharing, being vulnerable, modeling, listening, offering to help and maintaining a positive attitude. #2PencilChat
A6. I am unapologetically enthusiastic! I love teaching. It's my passion. I "light myself on fire with my passion" so others can see it burn, in hopes it will ignite others along the way #2pencilchat
A6: Talk to them about why they decided to be a teacher. They will remember their own magic and it will rekindle yours. Remember summer will come soon. Socials help too! 😊
