Hey #ECEchat family! Katy checking in, PreK Program Specialist in N. Texas. Excited to have two #RISDprek Ts guest moderating tonight! Say hello to @vickyfarias7716@MarissaEby !!!
Hello everybody! I'm Sarah Reimer, I live in Caronport, SK Canada and I am graduating this spring from @URFacofEd with my Elementary Education degree #ECEchat
A1: My Ss are really enjoying using Marbotics. They like the additional hands on manipulative letters that are used with the Alphamonster app. #ECEchat
A1: Touch & Write, Ss learn to make words from app lists or teacher created lists. Lakeshore's Sound Sorting Beginning Sounds is another great one. #ECEchat
A2: Marbotic with numbers is great, and is in several languages, and Ice Cream Numbers, ss learn numbers and one-on-one correspondance. If you know more about Math or Science share please #ecechat
A2. Switch Zoo is fun science app to learn about animals while creating silly creatures. We've posted screenshot of animal into Seesaw then recorded about how each part will help it survive #ECEchat
A3: I have found that with any tech it's a difficult process to get the apps approved and installed - by the time this happens with admin it is a month or so later! Anyone else have this problem? #ECEchat
Q3 sometimes when the app updates/changes they allow ads 😢 have to say bye bye then; or kids getting out of the app; you can lock the iPad but I have one smarty who knows how to get out #ECEchat
Using apps that enhance a skill or what they're learning in class and not doing the teaching. Also WIFI problems, making sure the devices are up to date, charged enough for use, etc.. #ECEChat
A3: We use iPads most often for documenting learning, sharing it out with parents and on electronic portfolios. We don’t use apps more than 30 minutes a week. #ECEchat
I think the biggest challenge is the obvious lack of Spanish apps but also when they do it on their own I have no way of making sure they make the right connections which is why I like to use them in small groups also to reinforce expectations.#ECEchat
A3: the main challenge I have had in the classroom is all the kids wanted to play at the same time and wanting to be on the IPAD for long periods of time. In today’s society that’s what a lot of these kiddos are doing. #ECEchat
See. This is my concern as well. As an aspiring T... I'm conflicted because I think it's a great thing but at the same time I don't want to use the apps for a long period of time. #ECEChat

A4: I manage use of apps in small group, monitor/checking in during centers and differentiate by guiding
Ss to different levels in apps or activities to do with apps. #ECEchat
I had a rotation for small groups where we did our projects. All Ss were rotated in 2x/week to do PBL with me in SG. iPad use in centers wasn’t timed unless I had a kiddo who was on it over 10 min. #ECEchat
A4 Ss use at a table in front of me; if I chose the app it is to support the need of that Ss based on data; that’s what I like about ABCMouse; I can level, group and assign based on ind. Ss need. Plus It charts/data graphs the progress #ecechat
Yes! We need developers to think about users who are non-English speakers. Spanish apps would be great, but multilingual apps would be better! #ECEChat
A4 I think this is something I am trying to figure out. Right now it is near my small group area and I can see if it is being over monopolizd, plus kids are always monitoring each other. "He was there yesterday"#ECEchat
I would've been one of those Ss. Although I'm very good with that stuff so I'd see it as a "good thing" as that just means they're interested! #ECEChat

A4. We use apps mostly in centers along with Seesaw where Ss post work done so I can monitor and give feedback, we have Tech Support Ss who I've shown how to troubleshoot problems then Ss go to them instead of me #ECEchat
A3: I’m 1:1 iPad which I 💕my challenges are: Ss having to over log-in to accounts, can’t manage or add Apps, the iPads are not using the same iOS, apps not updating for newer iOS, #ECEchat
I have heard a lot of teachers saying they use app in small groups...
I would say Sock puppets and Toontastic are good ones to use for a while, teacher led… gradual release model. #ECEChat
A4. I differentiate the apps used on a mini pocket chart with colored strips and cutouts of app logos to move around for which apps each colored group can visit #ECEchat
I got one too!! Has anyone used virtual reality? And if so... What was the response like? Now with this... I think this shouldn't be used to replace field trips... I mean in like a use where it's the only resort if that makes sense... Thanks!! #ECEChat
A4: we are 1:1 iPads I teach apps in whole/small group depending, post visual directions, have iPad app gurus, a lot of apps have embedded differentiation, such as @Seesaw#SeesawChat Seesaw Activities make differentiation easy #ECEchat
A5: I loved putting our products on QR codes and sending them home to watch and discuss with Ss. Also sent our PebbleGo login home to work on family projects at home. #ECEchat
A5: Would this be mostly for documentation and communication? Love using tech in a way that invites families to engage in the learning on a more daily basis rather than just for reporting periods #ECEchat
I would be open to that! Although there will probably be a small number of folks who do not have access to that -- which I would find ways to work around. Probably not likely since I'll probably teach in a urban area... But in small towns where I live I could see that. #ECEChat
I can see the value of a virtual field trip (think Mr Rogers' visit to a crayon factory) but Ss should have some prior experience to connect it to. #ECEchathttps://t.co/oNVyalGC2w

A5: Parents love to receive information, or see any projects we are working on #SeesawChat#remindme. Tech and apps are doing such great job w communication. Btw ABC Mágico in Spanish is a great app for students #ecechat
A5: Also - ideas on how we could do this with students in a way that is inclusive of families that don't necessarily have as much access to technology? Immigrant families, low SES families etc. #ECEchat Thoughts?

Q5 @Seesaw for sure! PBS parent app for Daniel Tiger-SEL, ABCMouse and Scholastic: Clifford’s Big World now is allowing sharing with families if you have subscription: They discount for Head Start not sure about State funded PreK #ecechat
I love using SeeSaw parents can comment and see their child's work. As a mom I love hearing my 1st grader story retell on the app. Although he quoted me today as what a 100 year old says. Hey I am not that old.#ECEChat
A5: @Seesaw digital portfolio, engages parents with most apps through App Smashing. 👍🏻 way for even our youngest Ss to share their day at school with parents. My 4-year old uses it at his school!! #ECEchat#SeesawChat#Seesaw#SeesawAmbassador
A5: Seesaw is great for sharing student learning. Kids love taking pictures of things they create and sharing them on Seesaw. Remind is great for sharing a picture or quick text with all parents at once. I use it when we’re on field trips. #ECEchat
A5: I believe practice is key. But to ensure your parents are practicing correctly, they must also be taught. Inviting parents into the classroom frequently for “app workshops” can help!! #ECEchat
Like I live in Missouri... And say we're learning about pyramids (I'm just using this as an example!!) we don't have pyramids here so I could see where VR could be useful! #ECEChat
A5 I've used some QR Codes in newsletters to add pizazz. We also are lucky to provide families w/ free app memberships to Learning Eggs and Reading A-Z. #ECEchat
Following my last question about lack of tech availability to parents - what if they have never used it before and have trouble accessing the info because they don't speak English - could hold a workshop perhaps? #ECEchat
A5 Seesaw is versatile in having your child showcase their work and learning in a digital portfolio. It has opportunity to send notes, communication and reminders. I have also tried classtag. #ECEchat
A5: Pebble for science, Switch zoo, book creator, candy count, ABC Mouse. Any recommendations for apps in Spanish, here trying to grow my repertoire of apps in Spanish, and help my ELL SS, thanks in advance! #ecechat
If you use @Seesaw or Remind- they have built in translation. Tech workshop for Ps is a great way. Intro google free email and all they can access #ecechat

A6: ALL OF THEM! Sooo may amazing suggestions! I am just wishing I had an IPad of my own to test them out - thanks for all of your thoughts and contributions everyone. I have learned so much. #ECEchat
