Q1: Teach Like a PIRATE is not about the dictionary definition...it is about the spirit!! What is it about the spirit of a pirate that makes for a great educator? #ECEchat#tlap
Jenni from Kansas. New to teaching this semester in primary sped. Next year I will be a PreK teacher. Excited to be here to learn! Just finished #tlap and found it extremely helpful. #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
A1 The mystery the awaits! Every pirate has a treasure and every teacher has a treasure to unfold in their kids....to find their passion for learning! #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
Q1: Teach Like a PIRATE is not about the dictionary definition...it is about the spirit!! What is it about the spirit of a pirate that makes for a great educator? #ECEchat#tlap
A1- It's about building and bringing the excitement and engagement to the school & classroom! We want our students running to get IN!
Take risks, be silly, and have fun while teaching/learning #ecechat#tlap
A1) While I haven't read the book yet (she admits embarrassedly), my thoughts are it is about the adventure of learning, excitement and enthusiasm, and venturing into the unknown with your students #ECEchat
A1 Presenting lessons with energy and gumption. Giving ALL students a meaningful performance whether it's the beginning or ending of the day #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
A1: The willingness to try something that is out of the box - to be creative and innovative even if it isn’t successful at first - having the passion to achieve! #ecechat
A1: The energy, enthusiasm, and persistence of a pirate make for a great educator! One of my favorite things I have learned in school is that if you aren't having fun teaching your lesson, your students aren't having fun either! #ECEChat
I see a pirate as being unafraid to forge ahead of standing out and not being afraid to be themselves. In that spirit I see my job as a teacher as someone who is willing to forge ahead in uncharted waters and to be willing to face challenges head on with joy. #ECEchat
RT Q1: We don’t want teachers to attack & rob ships at sea! It’s not about the dictionary definition… #tlap is about the spirit. What is it about the spirit of a pirate that makes for a great educator? #ECEchat
A1: Pirate teachers explore the unknown with their students. The energy and ideas set them apart. They are learning daily with and from their students. #ECEchat
A1:the drive, the willingness, the enthusiasm during deep water situations, the bounce back when making a mistake, the ability to depend on them #ECEchat
A1: A P.I.R.A.T.E takes risks, sets own course, is passionate about the cause, is fearless when it comes to pursuing the goal (treasure), and does not let anything get in the way. #tlap#ECEchat
Q1: Teach Like a PIRATE is not about the dictionary definition...it is about the spirit!! What is it about the spirit of a pirate that makes for a great educator? #ECEchat#tlap
Q2: Don't just teach a lesson, create an EXPERIENCE!!! That is a key tenet of #tlap! What is the difference? How can we make class come ALIVE by creating powerful experiences for kids? #ECEchat
A1: I always think of pirates as going against the current. They do their own thing and don’t care what others think. I think we need to jump out into the current of things untouched and not worry about others. #tlap#ECEchat#IHMarchMadness
Q1: Teach Like a PIRATE is not about the dictionary definition...it is about the spirit!! What is it about the spirit of a pirate that makes for a great educator? #ECEchat#tlap
Don't do this nearly enough, but my little learners love when I transform the classroom, dress up, or provide them with costumes. Immersion creates an incredible experience for learners. #ecechat#tlap
Q2: Don't just teach a lesson, create an EXPERIENCE!!! That is a key tenet of #tlap! What is the difference? How can we make class come ALIVE by creating powerful experiences for kids? #ECEchat
Q2: Don't just teach a lesson, create an EXPERIENCE!!! That is a key tenet of #tlap! What is the difference? How can we make class come ALIVE by creating powerful experiences for kids? #ECEchat
Relate what they are learning to the real world every chance that you get! Let them know that they will need the information and that knowledge is power. We laugh, we have fun and we learn! #ECEchat
A2. Giving the kids voice and choice in the classroom! This autonomy is especially important for our young learners in ece. Plus it’s just more fun to teach that way #ECEChat
Q2: Don't just teach a lesson, create an EXPERIENCE!!! That is a key tenet of #tlap! What is the difference? How can we make class come ALIVE by creating powerful experiences for kids? #ECEchat
Kristen from PA, forgot about this chat and joined another one. But really want to do this one too so bear with me! Oh, and I teach 6th grade physical science #ECEchat
A2- kids learn and retain more of what they experience... not what they do or are simply taught. Creativity stimulates the brain.. immerse them in an experience and they will remember what they learn! #ecechat
A2: The difference between teaching and experiencing a lesson in my opinion is that, experiencing will have the students engaged, moving around. Whereas teaching could be just a lecture where there is just listening going on and taking notes. #ecechat@barbersclass#barbersclass
A2: We really have to think out of the box ourselves with what do we want our Ss to get from the experience in mind, especially with little learners. It is all about the experience. We have been adding sensory experiences to our learning. #ECEchat
A2: It's one thing to talk about the power of masks in a novel written in the 1950's. It's another thing to have a facepainting day where Ss choose types of faces/moods to paint themselves then discuss HOW they felt with the paint on! Gamechanger! #ECEchat#tlap
A2: Experiences are highly engaging, they involve more than just one sense (not just listening!), they are interactive and collaborative, they create memories and build bonds #ECEchat
I think the pirate is carefree, not rigid, not afraid to be himself, makes us laugh, and is personable. Oh, and they sometimes have parrots!!! #ECEchat
A2 Just thinking and planning with an experience in mind instead of a lesson begins the change. When we create experience this becomes a life learning moment instead of just another day in class. #ECEchat
A1: Some are afraid their boat will sink, but if you persevere and work as a team, (teachers, parents, students, colleagues) you will stay afloat and reach your destination! #IHMarchMadness#ecechat#tlap
Q2: Having an Inquiry Based classroom can help you build lessons around what your students are interested in and curious about. Focusing on relationships and interactions rather than paper and pencil assignments creates a more positive experience for everyone! #ECEChat
A2: An experience remains available as a reference point it excites those that are impacted by it. A lesson is taught an maybe mentioned once or twice.#ECEchat We NEED to take learning to an extraordinary level to reach our students at their current potential
I still remember when my elementary teachers transformed our classroom into a desert and arctic tundra. My elementary school also created a living museum of Washington D.C. in the gym and invited our state senator. Experiences are FOREVER! #ecechat#tlap
A1: Willing to take risks and be adventurous. A pirate also isn't concerned what others have to say when trying to achieve their main purpose. #ecechat
#ecechat A2: Lessons become experiences when we bring our personal passions to them...passion connections make our lessons relevant, genuine & memorable...the WHY is answered in an engaging & inspiring way.
A2: Now that I am a veteran teacher, and watch former Ss graduate, I know I created experiences when the grad speeches reference their first grade year. #ECEchat#tlap
Q2: Make your lessons meaningful and memorable!!! Relate it to their lives. Make the lesson so incredible they will always remember it. 👍🏼😊⚓️ #tlap#ECEchat
Q2: Don't just teach a lesson, create an EXPERIENCE!!! That is a key tenet of #tlap! What is the difference? How can we make class come ALIVE by creating powerful experiences for kids? #ECEchat
Q2 Think outside the box; I love reading stories with different voices, Then from time to time those characters will pop up in the room, hallway, recess maybe lunch; Ss get so excited and start re-telling the book #ecechat
A2- When kids are ENGAGED- they lose the zombie affect- they are present. That is how we make powerful experiences for kids. Do anything it takes to increase your engagment. #ecechat
A2) Planning experiences, open ended inquiry, letting the students lead (giving them control over their own learning opportunities). Experiences are important for students to connect the learning and for being engaged #ECEchat
A2: get to know your students... what are their interests? Passions? USE those to your advantage. Incorporate them into your teaching. And, of course, add HOOKS!! #ECEchat
A2: An experience activates students senses, ignites their curiosity and empowers them to take the lead! It makes them want to come back for more! Ts do this by providing hooks, setting the stage and literally bringing the lesson to life! #ecechat
A2: It’s not about just teaching a lesson, it’s about how you engage/ hook your students to make the learning unforgettable and unique for them #TLAP#ecechat
A2: getting to know your Ss interests is important-engaging Ss in a lesson through movement, acting it out, demonstrating actions/expressions, anything that is relative will create an amazing memorable experience-they will have fun & relate activity to what they learned #ecechat
A2 Hands on learning is meaningful and memorable for littles. When creating lesson plans, think about how to embed these valuable opportunities into the standards. #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
Q2: Having an Inquiry Based classroom can help you build lessons around what your students are interested in and curious about. Focusing on relationships and interactions rather than paper and pencil assignments creates a more positive experience for everyone! #ECEChat
RT Q2: A key tenet of #tlap is “Don’t just teach a lesson, create an experience!” What is the difference & how can we make class come alive by creating powerful experiences for our students? #ECEchat
I was listening to a podcast that had Dan and Chip Heath talking about peak moments and that peaks are what we remember. They used Disney World as an example. We remember the rides not the lines. Students will remember the peaks.#ECEchat
A2 Teaching a lesson is a lot of teacher talk, creating a experience is mostly student talk. You know the students are into the experience when they don't want to stop talking about it! #ecechat
A2 An experience is when you get the kids involved and moving, bring in props, add exciting relative things to centers, and add excitement to what you are doing. If the teacher is excited, so are the students. #ECEchat
A2 Friday was @NationalHistory in my region! 40 of my students met Historians, archivists, and educators from throughout the state! 18 were awarded for their SS work! #ECEchat
A2: An experience activates students senses, ignites their curiosity and empowers them to take the lead! It makes them want to come back for more! Ts do this by providing hooks, setting the stage and literally bringing the lesson to life! #ecechat
A2: Experiences are everything! How many worksheets do you remember? Experiences provide hands on, self motivation, excitement and the want to learn! Let your Ss guide their learning. #ECEchat
A2: Include student choice in the lessons and don't be afraid to transform your room to create an engaging experience. Make the experience hands on. #ecechat
I think one interesting Disney takeaway is how the lines are bow part of the ride. Even the boring can be made engaging and tell part of the story! #ecechat
A2: Access prior knowledge and bring real experiences to kiddos through tech integration, real objects, role-play, interviews, pictures, & home connections. #ECEchat#tlap
Q2: When designing experiences, start with casting a wide net (yes a pirate reference!), plan for multiple means of engagement then individualize as needed, the experiences need to support the learning of all children. #ecechat
Go big or go home. Take huge risks. Make learning more like playtime. Allow student voice and choice. Don’t be afraid to get loud, dirty, or laughed at. Have fun with the kids! #ECEchat
Part 2 of A2: from a bilingual/esl student's perspective- it is very hard to learn from a worksheet or just watching someone teach. We should be providing real experiences to encourage language learning in all 4 domains! #ECEchat
Q3: I NEVER put steak on a cold grill!!! I pre-heat it! How do/can you build mystery, curiosity, buzz, anticipation so that lessons SIZZLE?? #ECEchat#tlap
That is a great analogy. I thought back to my Disney exp. and have to agree, except for that one ride where we waited over an hour for a terrible ride:) #ECEchat#tlap
A2: While at the ITEACHK conference I heard many of the presenters sharing their amazing "experiences." Anxious to try some of those out of the box, old fashioned, learning lessons! #IHMarchMadness#ECEChat
A2 An experience is something that is rarely forgotten. We have think differently, look at our lessons as adventures and how can we get our Ss on board and give them an unforgettable experience! #IHMarchMadness#ecechat
A3: We can put students on the edge of their seats to see something we were going to show them anyway!! Make content sizzle! Pre-heat the grill! #tlap#ECEchat
A3: Hanging up random things in the classroom always gets them asking questions and curious. Props, music, rearranging the classroom, books, etc. #ECEchat
A2. Connect to Ss interestests. Give Ss a choice in their learning. Engage/Participate with the Ss. They love it when we get on their level and participate in activities with them! #ecechat
A3: I teach law & Ss always want to talk about crime so I wove a real life murder mystery into the first half of the year! It ended in a page turner & they couldn’t put it down. Coolest thing I’ve done in a while. #ECEchat
A2 Creating an experience could be a room transformation based on a theme, being in character (costumes) or setting up an adventure within or outside your class #ECEchat
A3: I love your ideas with the social media lead ins. Snap, Insta, - post something that makes them ask: What is happening?! Intrigued or confused- they'll show up! #tlap#ECEchat@JCasaTodd
A3: In order to make lessons sizzle, I would relate it to real situations/life, active engagement, give specific feedback, and provide anchor charts. #ecechat@barbersclass#barbersclass
A3: The greatness about littles...doesn’t take much for them to get excited. Just a little sizzle is all it will take. They come fired up so let’s keep them fired up. #tlap#ECEchat
A3 Excited to try this out as I develop in teaching. For now I'm finding that if I am enthusiastic about an activity, my small group of Ss shows enthusiasm too. It is definitely contagious! #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
A3: Oh the ways to do this are many! Love the Mystery Hook, Interior design, taboo, and safari. Oh, and the Mozart hook. Tease Ss about what's coming. Make a trailer! I vary these and use the one that fits the lesson and/or Ss the best for that particular class. #tlap#ECEchat
A3: it depends on the content and the audience but introduce it in a way that allows for innovation, investigative questioning, and experiences that will become long lasting. Use your teacher toolbox. #ecechat
A3: Music, having the students walk into a decorated room, costumes, and sometimes a hint given the day before or a message sent home on @ClassDojo to the parents to ask students before they leave in the morning. #ECEchat#tlap
A3: I tell my students I have something I am so excited to share with them. I hang up clues, or give them clues throughout the day. I use excitement when discussing the upcoming content. #ecechat
A3: its all about the delivery. Go ahead and step out of your comfort zone, if you hype it up, chances are your kids will eat it up!! Have FUN, be silly, that’s okay... maybe even encouraged! :) #ecechat#tlap
RT Q3: In #tlap we always pre-heat the grill to make content sizzle when we drop it! How do you build up mystery, curiosity, anticipation, & buzz ahead of time for your lessons? #ECEchat
A3: HOOKS! I try to dress up as a character/person whenever possible. My students are ALWAYS pumped up when I’m not “Ms. Kotsiovos.” I also love classroom transformations. And sometimes, I rely on my enthusiasm. #ecechat
A3: From the moment we greet each other in the morning I start tossing out clues of what is to come in a while-I relate it to color they have on or something they say. I may have a picture or a book out and they begin to ask Q’s-they start to turn/talk & start guessing #ecechat
Create teasers to get the students thinking. Allow them to discuss the teasers with their peers. The more they talk and interact, the more anticipation will build. Ask guiding questions. Become excited with them. #ecechat
This is my FAVORITE! @slwindisch and I have presented our "What Do You Meme (GIF)" Justin Bieber themed teaching strategy session a couple of times! And while she is the Dinner & a Show, I'll gladly be her sidekick on so much fun! #tlap#ECEchat@averyteach
In reply to

A3: The greatness about littles...doesn’t take much for them to get excited. Just a little sizzle is all it will take. They come fired up so let’s keep them fired up. #tlap#ECEchat
A3: I love reading a good book to get Ss enticed to want more. Bringing in props and letting the Ss explore, connect and make predictions based on them. Once the grill is lit the momentum just keeps building/growing. #ECEchat
A3: Set up a provocation for learning related to your upcoming lesson! Allowing students to explore materials creates a buzz of excitement. This is an example of a provocation I set up in my field classroom to introduce my upcoming lesson on dinosaurs! #ECEChat
A3 I like to preheat by talking about something in my life that relates which always creates an excitement for them to share. So building an excitement for the experience that is coming which also create a bond to the learning.#ECEchat
A3: I like sharing stuff with whispers, cliff hangers and a hook. I also like to ask, “Guess What?” Twain said that timing is everything and he is correct. #ECEchat
A2: Tchg a lesson=memorizing your objs, trying to remember your ?'s, providing closure. Creating an experience=Exciting intro + Engaging experience + Following the lead of the kids + Reflection ... & ending up perhaps somewhere diff than you ever thought possible! #tlap#ECEchat
A3 Mystery bag/box, secret sack, wrapping up a book and only revealing part of the cover at a time. Clues....kinders LOVE clues! #IHMarchMadness#ecechat
Q3: I NEVER put steak on a cold grill!!! I pre-heat it! How do/can you build mystery, curiosity, buzz, anticipation so that lessons SIZZLE?? #ECEchat#tlap
A3 Bring in the mystery box the day before. Let students ask questions about what is in it but don’t reveal the contents until the day of the lesson. It really teaches them how to ask great questions too. #ECEchat
A3: Always the element of surprise and capturing curiosity !! Create a "problem" that needs to be solved...they identify the problem and then get busy creating, guessing, solving!
#ecechat
Q4: Hooks! Pirates are known for having hooks! The Mozart Hook, Picasso Hook, & the Kinesthetic Hook are PERFECT for the early grades! Let's hear examples. #ECEchat#tlap
A3. I also like telling stories, role playing, and using my imagination. I once got on a tangent that lasted about 10 minutes while I was using my imagination to set up the lesson. Flew by the seat of my pants and it was AWESOME #ecechat
A3: Kindergarteners come loaded with excitement. They love to share their experiences. By using their stories and building on it, you can reel them in. #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
I get genuinely excited about everything and give hints about what we are going to do next, primarily because I can’t contain myself #breakoutedu pi day coming up where the prize is they get to pie me . I also strategically put out materials and make them wonder. #ECEchat
A3 I like to preheat by talking about something in my life that relates which always creates an excitement for them to share. So building an excitement for the experience that is coming which also create a bond to the learning.#ECEchat

A4: My class has it's own Spotify playlist. We have a theme song for each part of our day that we play while transitioning and my students sing their little hearts out! I try to incorporate movement into vocab. especially! Makes learning definitions way more fun! #ECEchat
A3: kids deserve our best. Our best enthusiasm, our best energy, & our best excitement. Take care of yourself so we can show our students our best. #ECEchat#tlap
A4: Songs, creating using Seesaw, using technology to appropriately enhance the learning, games, active play situations, experiments, discussions etc.#ecechat
A4: Love finding songs that go with our themes. We did monster descriptive writing listening to The Monster Mash! For movement, we go on a bear hunt on the 1st day of spring with our teddy bears and have a post-hibernation picnic! Lots of art in kindergarten too! #ECEchat
A4: I put up this pic on my projector during recess. When Ss came in and settled in with snack, the questions & comments amongst themselves were awesome. Within minutes, they were begging me to know what it was all about. Yep, they were right where I wanted them! #ecechat#tlap
A4: sing songs about learning that incorporates movement. Stem arts and crafts around literature and allow them to be creative and create their own creations. #ecechat
I gamified math when I taught 2nd grade based on the PBS show CyberChase. I played the theme song at the start of each math class and it always got kids in the spirit and pumped for the challenges. It wasn't even math class anymore - they were so into the "game". #ecechat#tlap
Q4: Hooks! Pirates are known for having hooks! The Mozart Hook, Picasso Hook, & the Kinesthetic Hook are PERFECT for the early grades! Let's hear examples. #ECEchat#tlap
A4: When students enter my room after break, it will be a pizzeria with Italian music playing in the background. Students will be moving around the room as they complete various pizza related activities. They will also create their own pizza. #ecechat
A4: For a lesson on noting details, we go on a virtual tour of an art museum and walk and talk about what we see. After reading, the kids get framed papers and create their own art to write about the details. #ECEchat#tlap
A4 It's so easy and fun to hook littles! Interactive songs, dancing, gross motor learning activities, open ended art projects to name a few. #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
Q4 My littles, 3/4 yr, love thematic units where the music, art, dance all follow the theme for that unit; I spend hours creating bookmark folders for each unit to wow and amaze them! #ecechat
A4: All of them are important in the development of early learners, they learn with music by singing and dancing nurser rhymes, art by letting them express in a paper, and movement will help grow healthy. #ecechat
RT Q4: #tlap hooks are powerful!! The Mozart Hook is music. The Picasso Hook is art. The Kinesthetic Hook is movement. Our early learners deserve/need all 3!!! How do you incorporate music, art, and movement into your class? #ECEchat

Others their artistic challenge. Kinesthethic- I use a lot of “whole brain teaching” to incorporate kinesthetic learning. For math, we use kids when doin addition and subtraction. The kids love moving around, plus they need it. #ECEChat
A4: I encourage my teachers that I work with to always consider incorporating music, movement, or art in every learning experience! This builds brain connections, boosts motivation, and grows confidence! my motto: "if its not fun to teach, its not fun to learn! "#ecechat
A4: Create a simple song/chant to introduce vocabulary and get ss excited. Use gestures to go with the song and have students change the rythm, make up the movements, add a line, and revisit at the end. They’ll surprise you with their own songs the next day #ECEchat
I always try to find songs or brain breaks that go along with what we're already doing. Creates more of an experience and keeps the kids excited! #ecechat
For too many kids, school is like sitting in the middle seat on an airplane for a cross-country trip...with the person on the aisle asleep. Let kids MOVE!!! #ECEchat
Q5: Pirates want students to know more than the curriculum...we want them to know US, as well! How do you add your own talents, passions, voice to your class? #ECEchat#tlap
A4 I use music to learn and dancing as much as possible because the more parts for the brain we use the deeper the learning. Drawing to express ideas and show what stuck for them. Ss focus faster with a song then reminders #ECEchat
For too many kids, school is like sitting in the middle seat on an airplane for a cross-country trip...with the person on the aisle asleep. Let kids MOVE!!! #ECEchat
A3 A4 - I love teaching K because I can be myself without judgement. You should see some of the dance moves and hear some of the singing that's happened in our classroom! Thankfully their 5/6 y/o ears think it is hilarious! #ecechat
A5: I talk about my hobbies and family. I have my husband and son come to school a couple times. I use my life as examples during lessons. I participate in discussions with them. #tlap#ECEchat#IHMarchMadness
Q5: Pirates want students to know more than the curriculum...we want them to know US, as well! How do you add your own talents, passions, voice to your class? #ECEchat#tlap

A5: What is unique about YOU...your voice, strengths, talents...will make you the most powerful teacher you can be!! #tlap#AddYouToYourLesson! #ECEchat
A4: GoNoodle is a fav! sing, move, laugh, build up the energy. We also love projects! The more bling and sparkle, the more learning there is! #IHMarchMadness#ECEChat
Sometimes a song, a tv or movie clip, a prediction, exposure to the materials, if I had a fire extinguisher I would have lit a few fires, too! They love to sit next to my desk and watch me prepare for the next day! (We have a hr period before their day starts!) #ECEchat
A5: share weekend news, share pictures, use my own experiences as learning examples, social media sharing, class visitors...morning meeting is key #ECEchat#tlap

A5 thanks to you @burgessdave I realized how important it is to incorporate my hobbies into my teaching. It makes it more fun and engaging for everyone. #ECEchat
A5. MORNING MEETINGS! This is a time for the Ss to get to know more about each other and about me as well. We always share something that we did, or something that made us happy. Sharing excitement for what we are learning. Expressing joy for things throughout the day. #ecechat
A5. Allow for plenty of time for relationship building. Not all conversations in the classroom need to be focused on rigor and academics. Social convos are so important for our young kiddos. #ecechat
A5: Create a classroom community where everyone is equal! Working WITH students, engaging in conversation rather than talking at them, and allowing students to discuss their experiences and feelings all help add my passion and voice in the classroom! #ECEChat
A5) My bday is the same as Dr. Seuss. So it was always a big deal in my classroom, all learning revolved around specific books. I have students from 9 years ago who wish me happy birthday each year and tell me their favorite memories from that experience #ecechat
A5: It makes teaching and learning more fun! Culture and relationships are #1. I can't build authentic relationships w/Ss if I don't share who I am with them. #ECEchat

Q5. I always share personal experiences. They love to hear about their teachers and it teaches them to make personal connections and to share. I read using different "voices" to engage my children. #ecechat
Such a great idea to play Irish instrumental during your leprechaun traps! Instrumental tends to be best for when they're working. I'll have to work on creating more playlists! #ecechat
A5: I try to do everything along w my Ss-They are easily impressed with my gymnastics ability-(not the flips I used to do)but definitely cartwheels & walkovers-we have dance offs & when we play outside WE PLAY- I have conversations w them about fav colors & food, etc... #ecechat
A5 Free play (recess) has turned into conversation with Ms. T. We talk about our weekends, new things that are happening in my life and students as well. They would rather talk to me than play. We get to know each other! #ecechat
A5: Morning Meeting is one of the most important and often underutilized times to set the tone for the day - build connections, share, model kindness, and encourage each other. #ecechat
Everything I own is pink. My stapler, tape dispenser, etc. I also sing and dance and am silly and loud. (I rode a tricycle around) I play (learn) with them and get so excited. I also have a story for everything! (You should see me ride a pretend roller coaster!) #ECEchat
A5: I refuse to cookie cutter as much as I can. I like a flexible environment and try to bring as much of me into my room as I can. I was the struggling learner so my room is very non traditional and very organized.#ecechat
Talking to your students about your likes and even your dislikes creates an interest/bond between you and your students. They always want to know more and they open up to us as well. I often do crazy things in front of them - like singing, dancing, and drawing #ECEchat
A5: Talk to your students, have conversations, share interests, and it will spark their curiosity. It's important to build those quality relationships. #ecechat
A5: Music is a passion of mine. I try to incorporate music in my lessons and as hooks. I also play music in our free time and have fun with the kiddos with dance parties. Sometimes I change the words to familiar songs to help teach the concept we are learning. #ecechat
A5: I stand by my belief that building the relationships will guide your journey. My kids become my family. They meet all of my family and work to earn visits from my "zoo.' #IHMarchMadness#ecechat#tlap
Q6: Okay...this is the awkward question of #tlap. Do you want to be great? If so...what stands in your way and how are you going to KNOCK DOWN that obstacle? #ECEchat
School and parents told me it’s a reflection on what I do in the classroom. I don’t like to be ordinary. Everything I do, I want my kids to have that WOW factor. At the end of the day, I think my personality and passion will make me the most powerful teacher I can be. #ECEChat
A5 My Ss know that I love Science and they get excited by it as well. I dance and sing with them (I am horrible at both) but it is real. They know I care about them #ECEchat
A5: I love learning and creating. I use my two loves to give students experiences and choice to allow them to explore and create their own art, projects, ideas, etc. I admire their amazing thoughts and individuality #ECEchat
A5: Morning Meeting is one of the most important and often underutilized times to set the tone for the day - build connections, share, model kindness, and encourage each other. #ecechat
A6) well of course :)! It happens that prioritizing what is an important often gets in my way (don't know if anyone else has this issue but things keep coming up) but I am working on that #ecechat
A6 STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK! That can be a dream crusher. It’s not my business what others think of me. This is a work in progress. #ecechat
Q6: Okay...this is the awkward question of #tlap. Do you want to be great? If so...what stands in your way and how are you going to KNOCK DOWN that obstacle? #ECEchat
A6: Not having the validation from my administration is holding me back. We praise Ss all day, but Ts need that too sometimes. Not always, but once in a while doesn’t hurt. #ECEchat
A6: Time and funds probably...I will be writing a grant to bring in more outdoor learning for my classroom to include a music wall...hopefully. #ECEchat
A6: Of course I want to be GREAT! However some obstacles stand in my way...for example, worrying about what others think of my teaching. Not having enough resources to help my students reach their goals! #ecechat@barbersclass#barbersclass
A6: Don’t worry what the others are thinking. Eventually, they get used to your class being louder and unpredictable. “What is Mrs. Daws doing now?” 😉 #ECEchat
A6: I am often my own biggest obstacle. I surround myself with incredible people who support, encourage and push me everyday... and remind me of my worth! And then, I can do anything!💥 #ecechat#tlap
A6. I want to be great and I want everyone to come with me. The wall in the way is the resistance to change! If something has been the same for 25 years.. CHANGE IT! We need to make a shift ourselves to better serve and prepare our kids! Ready or not, here we go!! #ecechat
A6: Myself and my comfort zone lol I’ve tried really hard this year to get out of my comfort zone and I’ve loved it! Plan to continue and do all things with an intention. #tlap#ecechat#IHMarchMadness
Q6: Okay...this is the awkward question of #tlap. Do you want to be great? If so...what stands in your way and how are you going to KNOCK DOWN that obstacle? #ECEchat
Q6: I am in the middle of overcoming my obstacle. My goal is to transform my room & create themes that last 1-2 weeks for the remainder of this year. I'll be doing my first transformation, the pizzeria, after break. I have plans for my upcoming transformations, too. #ecechat
A6: Yes, I want to be great! I need to stop worrying about what others think at times and have more faith in myself when stepping out and trying new things. #ECEchat
A6 I try to be me as much as possible in the classroom but sometimes my goofy self gets pushed aside so the mature version can teach Ss. I need to embrace the silly side and my inner pirate more often. #IHMarchMadness#ECEchat
A6: I do! I’m currently working on my masters in learning technology and continue to say that a higher grade level would better suit my specific interests and skills but I know Little’s can do big things and I believe I can make big opportunities for them. #ECEchat
A5: Our 1st passion expert proj is one we do together! Whether sifting thru masterpieces, bldg architectural elements or designing puppets, I scaffold them into positive experiences w/ beg research. Rdg nf, making memories, lrng all while getting to know me better! #tlap#ecechat
A6: I go into the classroom each day asking myself how I can be better than I was the day before! I feel that many teachers feel overwhelmed with preparing students for standardized tests that they lose their passion and excitement. #ECEChat
RT Q6 Let's end w/the "Awkward Question" from #tlap. Do you want to be great? If yes, what obstacles & challenges are you willing to commit to overcoming right NOW in the pursuit of it? What stands in your way? Knock it DOWN! #ECEchat
A51: I tell stories about me, and I have great stories. My stories always start out with, “it’s a long story.” But I always tell them. The best part is when former s come back and ask you a follow up ? about one of your stories that you didn’t remember telling them! #ECEchat
A6: Hell YES I want to be GREAT! I’m determined to not let anything stand in my way- and I will (metaphorically) knock down my obstacles - which sometimes can be other coworkers saying I’m doing too much 🙄 - to finding a balance to do everything I need and want to do! #ecechat
thanks! I might be pretty passionate about this little topic! 😉 You can do it...a few intentional moments a day can make a lifelong difference. and, we are all guilty of underutilizing things. we are all works in progress! #ecechat
A6: It is always admin obstacles. They are concern with tests (Totally understand) BUT are Ss need to be thinkers and not regurgitators of info. So we must take risks to balance both. #ecechat
A6 We are great! We strive to make a difference; Show your stuff! Invite people in and let them see what you do; I copy other great teachers all the time. If we are to change the face of Education then we have to show it to the🌎 #ecechat
#ECEchat
A6: The more I innovate, experiment, and change, the naysayers and doubters upset me. I have surrounded myself with like minded people who support me and push me to be better. I work for my students-not the teacher down the hall. #ECEchat#tlap
A52: and I always ask them weird questions. This week we were discussing why there were no pink storm troopers in Star Wars and what tricks we would teach my non shedding, non pooping pet parrot to do! #ECEchat
A6: It is always admin obstacles. They are concern with tests (Totally understand) BUT our Ss need to be thinkers and not regurgitators of info. So we must take risks to balance both. #ecechat
A6: In my way is a perceived resistance & misunderstanding from my admin. Maybe it’s indeed perceived. I’m knocking it down by finding a fresh new environment (aka country) 🇸🇬🇸🇬 #tlap#ECEchat
A6: Absolutely! Doing my best everyday to #betheone! Being willing to get over any rough seas, I may encounter during the course of a day! My biggest strength and downfall is wearing my heart on my sleeve! But I'm proud of it! #ecechat
I like to talk with my students about themselves. I try to spend time each week talking about non-academic things with each student. For a kid love=time. I can spend a little time even if I need to steal it like a pirate. #ecechat
A6 I get in my head too much. I have been in Ed for 20 years. The past few were a little rocky and I started to doubt myself. I am just starting to feel like I am getting out of that slump #ECEchat
Thank you to #ECEchat for welcoming a pirate into your community tonight!! Follow your fellow chatters and come back each week for amazing support for early childhood educators!! #BetterTogether#tlap
A6: I want to be GREAT. I think that the biggest obstacle that stands in my way is self-doubt. Sometimes as educators, we are our hardest critic. I need to start noting all the good things that happen each day instead of constantly thinking of how to improve everything. #ecechat
I absolutely, positively will be great! My challenge is time and the desire to connect with each and every student in everyway necessary to help them learn and grow.#ecechat
I borrowed the idea from someone yrs ago. I bought interesting, fun fabrics (sci-related? math?) & asked a volunteer seamstress to make them into drawstring bags. Right now, I have new sci artifacts in one & kid writing samples to share in another. Kids love them! #tlap#ecechat
Q6: yes, but not everyone shares my enthusiasm and that is frustrating. So sometimes I feel very alone! I have to stay away from negative people or they will suck me in! But then I come on here! #ECEchat
