Welcome to ! Tonight we're talking about edcamps. Go ahead and introduce yourselves.
I'm Sam; I organize edcamps.
Hello - Julie from Chattanooga here. I love :)
So is an edcamp-style chat, meaning there's no Q1/A1 formality, just fluid conversation.
How have edcamps affected your classroom?
I'm not in classroom setting but I can tell u the Ts I work with that attended came back inspired 2 try new things
My first professional presentation to teachers outside my district was an edcamp.
So you're right; it's not necessarily about the classroom.
I'm here, I'm here! Never been to edcamp, will be at for a little while and this spring
As a tech coordinator, it's a good place for me to get quick understandings of lots of different topics
And sometimes try cool gadgets.
And sometimes win gadgets.
YES! I'm a fan of all things free AND time to play with them.
EdCamp style is my favorite (un)conference :)
Give me your 140 character description of edcamp...i'm looking forward to learning.
Every session meets your needs, is based on your needs. The networking is outstanding. The door prizes are nice.
Edcamps are nonstructured learning based on participant driven learning needs. And it's about growing PLN with f2f
How often do you get together with teachers from outside your district just to have fun and learn?
At you're in charge of your own learning, no-one is there to sell you anything, feel free to walk in and out whenever
hello friends!!! Tina joining in
Not enough but when it happens the collab is always phenomenal https://t.co/MJx8Jry97A

After Twitter, is the best place to build your PLN
Love edcamp! an extension of twitter w/ organic convos around a topic, builds connected learning F2F!
. rule of 2 feet was hard for me, especially if I wasnt near the door
I'm surprised there isn't a regular coffee meetup in Chattanooga yet. Or Nashville. Or Memphis.
And it was the first chance to finally get to meet TINA and SAM!
that was my fav part!!! Meeting F2F but feeling like we already knew each other! Def grew relationships!
Its because you are so nice https://t.co/aFiX3fZ60o
. rule of 2 feet was hard for me, especially if I wasnt near the door
But yes, we don't take enough time to see each other. Tweet all the time, but need f2f.
bummed I"m not closer to join ;(
I need to get in touch with my neighbors from Coffee County more, they are super connected
it was very awkward for me b/c I didn't want people to feel like they weren't interesting
Just got in from a function. How are we doing tonight?
I don't have a problem with leaving because really no one is suppose to be in charge
I remember grading papers at my first conference because the sessions were so bad (and large)
Rule of 2 feet is awesome!
I need to work on developing that mentality, I felt like I had a target on my back
how do you handle edcamp sessions when everyone is there to learn about a topic & no one has input??
I think it's important to have people in the room make sure convo is going. We learned that last year.
then I might never have anyone stay for my pd, lol!
Either crowdsourse - everyone knows something about the topic - or find an expert.
I agree & thought the same thing, loved it but I had a couple of rooms that stalled out
I have also wondered the Same thing
Hi all! Jenny here from Franklin! Glad to be a part of the tonight
totally walked into that one & cracked up bc I envision having ammo for me
I'm not a fan of having "presenters" in an edcamp but i do think facilitators are helpful to ask Qs and redirect
I imagine the bigger the edcamp, the less of an issue this is.
Hi Jennifer glad to have you on tonight
tech pd...if it's required & naysayers are in attendance, rule of 2 feet might be in the comfort zone but not the tool
Been to some of both... meh. https://t.co/Wxp3AEsIt6

Hi Mary! Long time no see!
I would have liked a facilitator to keep the convo flowing
I think presenter vs facilitator depends on the familiarity of the group with the topic.
I can see that too...had full sessions w/o issue but smaller groups stalled
How do you find the balance and let attendees know which are presentations and which are discussions?
literally cracked me up! forever live the plicker
When a group of people say, "Hey, someone teach us about Twitter", it's a presentation.
as a 1st timer I wld have liked a mod but loved no presenter bc it felt like a collaboration
So no one comes "prepared" to present, they just might have the chance to?
Right, and even then that can become a conversation as long as 2+ people who know the topic are talking.
I think you just have to let the participants guide the discussion or the presentation. just like in class
tell me more about ?? you've been missed too!!
But I agree that if you show up with a prepared PPT, it's a bit shifty.
egg + face = me ....might show up if I google me
I see a lot of ppl looking spotlight as a conference presenter. I think the "unconference" beauty isn't that.
yes! keep it organic! share what you know and keep the door open to learn from others!
Sorry, I came into this chat late & missed that The Greg had already responded to Tina w/ the same response.
Yes!
Plus if everyone left a lecture, that would send a message ;)
last year, I'd probably have been the last to leave, will try to work on it this year
now I want to do an edcamp session where I bring a spotlight!
I think the 2 ft threshold is different for everyone.
I LOVE this!!!!!! open to all comm or parents??
only if you can weave it into conversation as a learning tool
of course it would be pointed at others
I hope to make it to & had a thought. What about a room w/ some technology or tools for participants?
that's great!!! how are you funding it? general budget or grant??
Some people go into a session looking for something specific; some will stay for a good convo.
Interrogation in the Content Areas
are you kidding? that wouldn't even be a challenge- maybe a potato... that might be harder
(with mic) And now straight from on participant speaking) - i see it working ;)
Having a playground is always great!
I felt like a spotlight when I thought of walking out & figured I'd get something if I stayed
spotlighting great learning
Light up your classroom
Lights Camera, Action in the classroom
you weren't alone - some of my Ts were sending me texts asking me to come in room and save them
I love collaboration to make meaning from the mundane. What about a problem to solve during the session w/ odd materials?
like a Break Out EDU session at EdCamp?
thought it was bc I hadnt been to an official edcamp, makes me feel better
Absolutely! It was really cool meeting up with my twitter PLN folks! Can't wait for more collaboration https://t.co/nx5sGhxbGb
that was my fav part!!! Meeting F2F but feeling like we already knew each other! Def grew relationships!
I would if I were able. I will be with founding TN fellows. Periscope sessions, maybe?
i like it, means we have to find less lunch funding. ;)
be my luck I'd get stuck & I'd have to text to slide me a plate under the door
This is now on my to-do list for Edcamp Tricities.
Actually I could probably round up enough stuff for if I really looked around my house.
mention of brings back memories of my 1st tweep stalker experience
I have some activities on making and content areas- let me know!
my FB crew is super stoked over Tricities!!!
what's the hall at ISTE that had demos of technology or STEM? Is that educampy?
Yes, does this often. Good work although I enjoy participating more in person than viewing from afar.
has lots of resources for STEM
there was room at FETC with various tech to experience
This will make for great engagement. is very impressive.
also has been doing a maker lab for & many other places! talk to her
what about creating rube goldberg machines?
I could bring together a great setup with $5.50 at Dollar Tree.
This sounds like another unconference type. I love it.
Sounds like a great challenge to show.
Our hour is up - don't forget to RSVP for .
It could be a breakout session playground opportunity maybe
