Every third Tuesday of the month at 10am PT, Microsoft Innovative Educators and expert hosts discuss a monthly changing theme during two #MSFTEduChat TweetMeet sessions for educators. The topic for May 15 will be Inclusive Classrooms and Accessibility.
#MSFTEduChat TweetMeets are an initiative from the Microsoft in Education Marketing Team. Follow us on Twitter: @MicrosoftEDU.
Jiaxin and @MalavikaRewari joining the #MSFTEduChat from Minneapolis, where we'll be attending the @ATClosingTheGap conference. Excited to learn, and jump in where we can on Windows/Office #a11y.
A2) One of the most impactful tools I use is @PlayCraftLearn! Students LOVE creating content and constructing knowledge in a world without rules. In many ways, I am reminded of what Seymour Papers described as "Mathland." #msfteduchat#MIeexpert
A2: Digital inking w/ Surface handed to Ss at their desks & projected via ScreenBeam is great for Ss who are self-conscious or reluctant to stand at a whiteboard in front of the class. #msfteduchat
A3) Low floor / high ceiling activities with wide walls (multiple entry points) provide opportunities for all students to feel confident and successful as there is more than one way to solve the problem. These lessons are differentiated beautifully and very engaging! #msfteduchat
Excellent point. In OneNote, sometimes I try to predict questions or confusions Ss may have about content, and insert hyperlinks to self-created help pages in the Class Notebook. #msfteduchat
A4) Assessment, by default, should be differentiated for all learners. Personal, descriptive feedback - both oral and written - keeps kids moving. Using observation, conversation and student product we can provide a much clearer picture of how the student is doing. #msfteduchat
A5) Tools like MakeCode provide a sandbox approach where kids can be curious, learn from trial and error and be given immediate feedback from technology thus freeing up teacher time to consolidate with others - making the experience accessible for all learners. #msfteduchat
Reading this recent article on how we're doing a disservice to our students by not recognizing dyslexia, "effectively abandoning struggling young readers during the most critical years of learning.". This is what pushes me to champion #inclusiveLearning. #MSFTEduChat#A6
This breaks my heart: "it is not unusual for dyslexics to go unrecognized until adolescence and beyond, a systemic shortcoming that effectively abandons struggling young readers during the most critical years of learning." We gotta close the gap sooner.
