Hey #SquirrelsChat! It's Emily from @Squirrels. Happy New Year! Excited to be back with host @PrincipalStager. January 2019 seems to be a waiting game for me. I'm counting down until our back-to-back-to-back conferences with #FETC#TCEA and #OETC. Hoping to see some of you there!

Hello and Happy New Year!! Janis from MI. We didn’t go back until Jan. 7th-it was hard coming back. And it’s so cold and dark-can’t I hibernate till spring! 😂😂#squirrelschat
A communication game-changer at @Squirrels has been @SlackHQ. We drastically cut down on emails and streamlined our interoffice conversations. I see a lot of potential for a tool like Slack in education, especially with the number of emails teachers get every day! #SquirrelsChat
Hey #SquirrelsChat! It’s Mitchel from China. Glad to start the school year. I ‘m stoked with all the new tools and apps I can explore this year. I started my classes with these activities in my classroom. Check it out! #alphasquirrelshttps://t.co/vnDQSib0M2

A1- I’m a big fan of @Seesaw for communicating with students and parents. I’ve used this year for my MS co ding class. I drop in assignments and they can turn them in. I can give feedback easily. #squirrelschat
A1: I like using @Seesaw to communicate with students and parents. This learning journal and communication tool helps students, teachers and parents to collaborate well towards genuine learning. #SquirrelsChat
It basically creates an interactive group chat instead of just sending students push notification. Easier for us to colloborate, create a calendar of events, create group photo albums, etc. Very versatile! #squirrelschat
A2. Does anyone else secretly LOVE a task list?!? 🙋🏼♀️ I find myself using a combo of paper + digital to keep on track. I take quick notes on my weekly desk calendar and I live by Notes and Reminders when I'm on the go. Can't forget OneNote when I'm in meetings! #SquirrelsChat
I am learning to love @OneNoteEDU through my doctoral program....I'm a Google and Mac girl, but it's a great program! I'll need to take some pointers from you...#SquirrelsChat
augh that is hard. I do like Google to get reminders on my computer and I can set up when I get them. I also use remind on my iPhone. Siri can be pretty persistent with the reminders #squirrelschat
Emily I confess, I write out a todo list each night before I go to bed and read it first thing in the am. writing it out really helps. and I back that up with remind on my phone or Google for the super don't forget again stuff #squirrelschat
Truth. Did anyone use the SMS notifications with @GoogleCalendar before they stopped? @SlackHQ does a nice job of taking over the GCal reminders on a mobile device. #SquirrelsChat

A2- I’m curious if I can find a digital app-I still use paper for tasks even though I use digital for work😳 A lot of teachers still want a paper lesson plan book. #squirrelschat
I also have one with paper/pencil and then copied electronically. There just is something about crossing off a to-do that just can't be duplicated! #SquirrelsChat
A2: With lots of classes, clubs not to mention, blogging and edtech-ing, @OneNoteEDU really helps manage my time and files and organize everything for me. I am never out of my schedules and I am able to put everything in order. Definitely on top of my list. #SquirrelsChat
A2: When I need to remind myself to do something and I'm on the go, I send myself messages. Slack has a built in bot that you can ask to remind you of something at a certain date and/or time and then it'll send you a message. #squirrelschat
Yes I'm the same way! I do a brain dump at the end of the day so I can pick up where I left off. It seems like a combo of digital and paper really works for me #SquirrelsChat
I think I'll need to work a little harder with this one to really get into it. I'm still learning, but it seems like such an amazing tool. #SquirrelsChat
We recently switched to O365 so I had a bit of a learning curve. Being able to have separate notebooks for projects and dropping in files is incredibly helpful. Plus the collaboration aspect is huge! We use it for meetings and agendas at work. Everyone wins! #SquirrelsChat
Do you use OneNote on Mac or Windows? I like OneNote but unfortunately I use it on a Mac and find it's a lot more limited than on Windows. #squirrelschat
A3. It's tough to beat the original Twitter app, though for nights like tonight I lean on @TweetDeck. It is so easy to schedule tweets and follow conversations simultaneously. Honestly, as long as you're using Twitter to connect with others, there's no wrong way! #SquirrelsChat
Google is just so familiar, I'm not surprised teachers chose Google. They both have their strengths and honestly, students and teachers will use both in their lives #SquirrelsChat

I feel the same way tonight! It's not updating the way I want it. I'm going back and forth between lots of lists trying to find everyone. Definitely not an #operatorerror tonight! #SquirrelsChat
A4. According to the weekly Screen Time report on my phone, that one app would be Instagram by a LONG shot 🤷🏼♀️ In reality though, it's how I stay connected with friends and family (WAY more than Facebook) so if I have to be deserted, Insta would sure help! #SquirrelsChat
A3: I use Twitter & TweetDeck. When I run my weekly chat- I always schedule and run the chat through Tweetdeck but I often just use good old Twitter for my daily updates and such #SquirrelsChat
There's a podcast for everything! And they really make the time fly by when on road trips. My favorite to listen to while driving is @waitwait! #squirrelschat
A5. I think it's imperative to have at least one method of cloud storage with OneNote, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Maybe even a combination if you prefer! You also need Spotify for your latest podcasts or music for the classroom and Hoopla for audiobooks. #SquirrelsChat
A5 not a new app but I’m venturing into the world of green screens with @DoInkTweets Recording students next week reading their penguin research projects while putting them “inside” the dioramas they created #SquirrelsChat
There’s some real excitement around green screen activities for the classroom, and a lot of variation on class content, too. Fantastic suggestion! #SquirrelsChat
A5: I use S'more for newsletters for staff, Remind for staff, & we make lots of videos to post on Twitter & Youtube. Students love Green Screen, Stop Motion, Explain Everything, Book Creator, Flipgrid, & Apple clips #SquirrelsChat
Another amazing chat thanks to the incomparable @PrincipalStager! What a great conversation. Thank you to everyone that participated this evening -- you are all rockstars! 🤩 Here's to a positive year ahead! See you February 21 for #SquirrelsChat with @kevenrinaman 👋🏼
