#FLedchat is a virtual meeting place using Twitter. Educators across the state of Florida come together on Wednesdays at 8pm EST to discuss the topics of the week.
Good Evening, #FLedChat Tonight we are going to be talking about those extracurricular activities. But before we get started, please introduce yourself and tell us what your favorite extra curricular activities was when YOU were in school.
Hello, all. My name is Tammy. I teach CS in Suwannee County, FL. I wasn't really involved in organized extra curricular activities. However, I did help quite a bit on our farm. #FLedChat
Good Evening, #FLedChat Tonight we are going to be talking about those extracurricular activities. But before we get started, please introduce yourself and tell us what your favorite extra curricular activities was when YOU were in school.
We will get started with our questions in just a few minutes. We will use the Q1/A1 format unless a conversation/discussion breaks out. And as always, don't forget to add #FLedChat so we can all share your brilliance.
** Q2 **
What are the costs associated with the extra curricular activities at your school/district? Are there policies/procedures in place to assist those unable to afford those costs?
#FLedChat
A2: It is my understanding that our sports programs have a high cost (hundreds of dollars) and players are encouraged to find sponsors to help pay those costs. The others are all free (that I know of). Other than the time us teachers donate to make them happen.

A2: almost everything we do at school is free for the kids. We are going on an end of the year celebration for News Crew to Island of Adventure & we will pay for those who can’t afford it so they can still go. #fledchat
A2. Science Olympiad. Costs is for the materials. Students in Grades 4-6 can participate. The students meet after school to learn and practice their skills. Go here for more info: https://t.co/BSvgso2FWW#fledchat

A3. Transportation is provided by each school that participates. The district competition is held at a local high school. The County District & local school district provide $upport. #fledchat
Here's Q4 without warning:
For many, transportation is a big reason why they don't participate in extras. How can we eliminate that issue? What can we do to minimize its impact on the students that need to be involved?

Hi Cory ... you'll only be a few hours away next year. I'm adding FETC20 on my list tonight and we can check our Cafe Versailles together! #fledchat@CoreyAppelbaum
Before I could drive, I didn't ask to participate in many extracurricular activities. Didn't want to burden my parents. When my school added an activity bus, it helped a lot. #FLedChat
A4: Most of my Coding Club activities can be done at home if the students have wifi. They can also be done at school once they finish their classroom activities. #FLedChat
This sounds like a plan Lemarr, I grew up in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area so know plenty of other great places as well but @VersaillesMiami is a must and #FETC20 on my list for sure! #FLedchat
A5: Most faculty extracurricular activities are smaller group activities. Several of us went to see Gerry Brooks earlier this year. Very bonding experience. #FLedChat
