A3: Ss simply take risks when playing. They developed the courage to try new things! That courage can be transferred over to their academic #learning as well. If your brave enough to climb or jump off something you’ll be brave enough to tackle spelling and new word! #edchatPH
    In reply to @Mrs_Gilchrist
  • MadForMaple Dec 7 @ 9:45 PM EST
A4: Through play, Ss learn to navigate conflict. Problem solving skills are key to climbing something new or building something new. Those skills can bring overall confidence to a child and equip them to deal with many real-world situations! #edchatPH #LEARNING

Love this so much! Where might you find more opportunities to learn outdoors with students? #edchatPH
    • MadForMaple Dec 7 @ 9:50 PM EST
@Mrs_Gilchrist btw....my daily goal, aside from recess, is to get my Ss outdoors for at least one class period. Ether in an #outdoor lesson connected to UOI, math, literacy or #Nature education or simply fun play! Wish more teachers would follow!

Interesting—I agree, I've seen & do it. In developing #SaaS #edtech #alloneword literacy diagnostic tool, I transferred my knowledge & experience in shaping individual performance in a team environment, from the sports field to the classroom. https://t.co/KtbJOqiMbI #edchatPH

A1; Play is learning. It is the first attempts by children to understand their world.when they engage in role play they are mimicking the world around them. This is why it is so important for adults to be positive role models. Play is important for all ages. #edchatPH

A2: Flexible learning opportunities. Allowing for a timetable and learning environment that supports independent exploration and play. #edchatPH
    In reply to @Mrs_Gilchrist
  • Mrs_Gilchrist Dec 7 @ 10:18 PM EST
So true! I think the timetable is a big one that many schools still need to get on board with—being willing to rethink and redesign the outdated, inflexible model. #edchatPH

A3: play is personal. It allows students to grow and develop thinking in a non threatening situation that allows mistakes to be made without judgement. Students can challenge themselves with any form of expectation apart from the ones they create themselves. #edchatPH
    In reply to @rizzapiccio
  • davidgostelow1 Dec 7 @ 10:23 PM EST
A4: as play is personal it allows complete student empowerment of the situation. They set the task and decide on the success criteria themselves. #edchatPH
