#UKEdChat A1. As an educator, and a parent, sadly as exams become more important and students are expected to remember LOADS for the tests, then time does need to be allocated during the holidays, although getting the balance right is essential, but difficult.
#ukedchat A1 - Within reason yes but/& give autonomy to ind tch/dept/sch to decide. Some students will benefit from the structure & want this. Others will want complete independence & useful to use prof judgement on this

A1. I think they should be given a choice of revision activities- this avoids students misplacing their time and efforts in tasks that are not beneficial to them. All activities to take around 20 mins #ukedchat
I offered a pick n mix programme as a structure & made it clear the Ss were free to choose how to revise/whether to use my structure or to be independent A1 #ukedchat
And strategies #ukedchat A1. Pupils need to be shown a range of strategies. Some will work for a few, whereas other ideas will work for others, and so on.
A1 I think when you are revising for GCSEs advice about how to revise maybe useful. Holidays are important for students and children. When I taught Year 6 I didn't give them additional homework for holidays. I did make sure they had a reading book or two! #UKedchat
Agree. I don't think giving tasks for 11 year olds (SATs) is necessary, as the results only really impact on the school, not the child. At the ages of 16&18 though, then it's a different ball game for the individual #UKEdChat A1 still.
#UKEdChat A2. Show a range of strategies, using different media, tricks and resources that can help. Index cards summarising key points, self-created podcasts, online flash cards all possible. Need to show a range of strategies.
A1 Revision strategies and independent learning capabilities need to be embedded in ks3 so that it is second nature as they progress through the ages. This means that each revision ‘task’ is effective #ukedchat
Yes - go through a range of ideas. Reinforce through varied starters that what we are doing is active revision A2 #ukedchat use interleaving & make explicit that the tasks/hw etc is all good examples of revision
A2. We teach a series of revision strategies to our year 11s during tutor time. We focus on strategies that aid recall which can be applied to any subject. #ukedchat
A2 - We created online flash cards to summarise topics. Seem to be going down really well. Depends on the subject really in terms of skills. For maths I would prefer them ‘doing’ maths with aids on the side to help refresh. #ukedchat
Not just focusing on current learning but recapping consistently prior units/skills topics #ukedchat consistent revisiting of skills & knowledge previously taught & still required
A2 I think it's important to as they tend to have no idea what to do other than reading through their notes. I get them using flash cards, making mind maps and most importantly exam technique #ukedchat
But we are the system, so it's up to us. SATs do not impact on the future of the pupils, so it's not fair to place the pressure on them at 11 for a test that measures the school, not the individual #ukedchat
A2 #ukedchat we have a great whole school strategy to embed revision skills - a focused programme all Y11 engage with - clear & consistent msg given to all

A2 the life skills company came in and did a work shop with our students. Was useful as students left with lots of different ideas they could experiment with. #ukedchat
A3 - re reading blindly without any key engagement. Over highlighting information - looks busy but is mindless and not active enough #ukedchat making notes by just rewriting stuff
A3 reading notes, using highlighters without guidance, setting students off to revise what they want to revise as they just revise what's easy #ukedchat
Yes - some of our Nurture Group students in years 7-9 have Study Skills lessons and they have used these lessons to work on these revision strategies. #ukedchat
A4: we have a schedule of revision sessions but all subject specific. Students have had study skills sessions delivered by outside providers too #UKEdChat
A4 #ukedchat assembly with Y11. PHSE study skill day. In lessons best way to revise. Send info on revising to parents. Headteacher has done some great blogs on this too
A4 breakfast clubs where specific topic areas and subjects were being covered. The same applied to after school drop in sessions.Didnt like the idea of adding extra sessions at weekends or holidays. it’s useful but greys the area a bit and affects work life balance. #ukedchat
Annoyed me massively when a student said they read how to solve equations and trig etc and that was ok instead of actually doing some practice. 😡 #ukedchat
A4. We run a revision skills evening which parents/carers and students are invited to, Teachers from different subjects present some strategies. Really useful for someone from home to be there so that they know what the students can do to revise #ukedchat
#ukedchat be realistic about how much to offer. Give strategies & encourage independence. Get a balance of revision time & down time sorted (Ss) timetable the revision (Ss)
A5. Teachers need to keep in mind at GCSE that their subject is one of around 10 that students are revising for and adapt expectations to match this. Students need to start early and have a plan that allows for breaks and time away from school work #ukedchat
A5 By letting tech take some of the strain. Some good well being apps to use to balance yourself.
Use of learning platforms (like @ezyeducationltd ) to support outside of the classroom. Enabling independent study and practise that can be monitored by staff #ukedchat
A6. By making it easy to access so that it’s not a huge effort.I use quizzes that student can complete on their phones/tablets/computers - they engage well with this as it’s something they can do when they have 5mins while waiting for the bus etc. #ukedchat
Use homework schedule as a way of ensuring this. We do 3 week rolling prog wk1 current unit - Wk 2 - prev Lang unit - wk3 - prev lit unit A6 #ukedchat embedded with ease & set KO learning hw that goes back to prior learning
A7. I have used https://t.co/a1L3MFMAx1 lots with my y11s this year. I’ve made lots of courses to help students remember quotes from the Lit. texts and some on the info needed for the Language papers #ukedchat
#ukedchat Weebly (website) at our sch for all things Eng - ss can access all revision materials. A lev revision blog being populated by ss for each other. YouTube clips, Bitesize & Quiz platforms etc are brilliant
A7 providing opportunities for personalised learning, using video tutorials to recap concepts and. Automated assessments with specific video feedback allowing transfer of learning. All of which can be monitored and managed effectively #ukedchat
Yea. There are lots of courses already available but you can also make your own which I have done for my students as they needed something more accessible for them #ukedchat
#UKEdChat I think technology will have even greater impact developing fluency in th earlier primary years. If we build this then generalisation of skills in which kids are fluent will be easy. Using tech to cram for exams- that just passes exams. So what?
A8 Ever tried doing a past paper where they didn’t answer any of the questions but wrote what they knew about each topic in the spaces that would help to solve the problem. Lots of quick recall on a variety of topics testing understanding rather than skill. #ukedchat
Pricing seems ok to me...you can still have 43 padlets free and if you need more you delete some
Seems fair and I will pay as it is a brilliant tool for teaching
Have another - Mathematical Hooks this time 😀

A8 another one was (maths related really) was providing papers with the answers already given, students had to fill in the workings. Took the stress out of finding the correct answer and focussed them on showing how they solved the problem #ukedchat#mathschat#journeyqs
