Good evening, I'm Andrew McBurney & I teach gifted high school students in AP classes #gtchat A2) Maybe not more likely introvert but with a highly active brain, maybe in need of more alone time or limited stimulus environment. P.S. love 280 characters.

A3) Introverts appreciate a simpler life; plan and reflect on new ways of doing things. They encourage others to develop self-reflection and think before acting. (Jung) #gtchat
A2) I'd also like to add as a gifted kid a even as a an adult, I don't really know which I am. I think I was fundamentally an introvert but other friends and siblings say noooooo.... I'm totally an extrovert. #gtchat
A3) Yes, because it gives the gifted that extra time to observe and collect thoughts before speaking. This is helpful because they some want to be wrong. My exp from gifted brother. @gtchatmod@audrarowell94#gtchat

Or social introvert. I love going out & being w/friends (or at conferences), but by god I need to recharge by myself when it’s over! Same w/public speaking. #gtchat
Why I gravitate toward energy / preferred method to recharge conceptualization of "introvert" over shyness or reclusiveness. Introverts can be social, yet get drained when circumstances prevent adequate downtime. By contrast, social interaction energizes extroverts. #gtchat

Know a GT teenager who struggles with this. Wants deep connection more quickly, struggles with shallow superficiality of typical HS chatter, is misjudged as "stuck up" vs. being introvert who needs time. #gtchat
None whatsoever if you believe everything fits in nice neat boxes :) I have a tough time getting students to recognize the purpose of categorization and its limits. #gtchat

A5) Not everything fits perfectly. One of the best ways of looking at things, at least for a fresh perspective, is the idea of "types" actually lying along a spectrum. #gtchat
A6) as teachers we should give the gifted child safety net (as for all children) to adapt to different social situations. As well as educate all on the different styles of everyone. @gtchatmod@audrarowell94#gtchat
Band taught me servant leadership. Fit my introversion just fine. Loving the spotlight fit my flute playing self just fine too. LOL! See? A spectrum! LOL! #gtchat
