Good Morning! I have no school today, but internal clock went off!
Ohh, I like the topic. In your mind, what defines true collaboration skills?
Good morning everyone! Last day before a week of spring break! David MS Principal from VA
Kathy, I had the same thing happen this morning, so I'm up. Sad that I can't sleep in any more.
But definitely happy to join you guys.
Putting em in a Google doc for the first time together. They giggle, mess with & learn from each other. Fun. https://t.co/7GiMU9tgcL
Good morning Abner... It's a good day to have a good day
Hi Jessica... It's a good day to have a good day
We made it to Good Friday! Looking forward to my last day with Ts and Ss before spring break.
I monitor, monitor, monitor
They also privately rate each other at times.
We provide numerous opportunities in class & out of for collab between students. Projects, papers, presentations
well, Kathy I'm glad you're here... It's a good day to have a good day
Collaboration comes from trust. We need to work on building relationships and community at the start of the yr.
Thank you! Right back at you!
Let them play and create on own while w/o jumping in to quick to solve problems
You need to model the elements of collaboration. Participation, communication, jobs, defining & chunking the problem.
Absolutely! https://t.co/r23eIzk2EG

Successful collab needs guidance & monitoring. Breakdown steps. Require roles for each person.
Don't know about u, but my place is ready for a break
As says, it needs to be part of the classroom climate. Needs to be taught and built in.
Conversation, discussion, process and product all need to showcase collaboration.
For today's topic: Practice, practice, practice. Also let them know what collaboration looks like & let them measure their efforts.
Our for our class is together. It is woven into everything we do.
Love music for this reason because listening & collaborative skills are needed for a group performance.
We're glad you're here. You are an important part of making a community.
Agreed. You also need to model all voices matter. Create rules and procedures together.
We need to start to develop those things at the beginning of the year and reinforce them throughout the year.
Its the same every year right at this time. Then the mad dash tot he finish!
We also model good group behavior with fishbowl type lessons. Play act while others watch
If they are valued at all time then true growth and progress can be made.
Absolutely! Create a learning environment conducive to creating and trying to solve their own questions/issues/problems.
Exactly. Classroom culture, climate and community will lend themselves to collaboration.
Challenge to 'model' collab in classroom-I involve myself in S media projects to show & BE a collab spirit. https://t.co/ybltNdBwMt

Agree. It takes time to get good/effective at something. Start early. Reinforce over & over.
And Ss need to decide the roles. Let them evaluate how their strengths should be used by the group.
With firsties, it all about teaching them to take turns talking with each other first. It's new & hard for them.
We need to model being a part of the team, collaborating with them to develop our knowledge.
Yes! That alone is hard enough in grade 1! :) But I am still teaching that in grade 3!
Good Friday ! Josh lead learner from NJ.
I'm late to the party today.
“None of us is as smart as all of us (K. Blanchard)”
For some Ss, this is very difficult. They don't like it and listening is very hard. Some are very egocentric.
Good morning all. Having coffee with the hubby . We still wake up early (him even earlier than usual!).
Collaborative instruction should start in the early grades and build as they grow. Important to build in social-emotional lessons.
Partner work is hysterical in my cl. Most of the time it's me going to each partnership & saying "Talk 2 each other! Do it together!"
Creating expectations and norms for communication often helps, as well.
Start early. Collab isnt just used in the classroom, it must b embedded. When early on it bcomes a part of classroom, a part of them
To ensure Ss learn true collaboration skills, there must be evidence of true adult collaboration in classrooms and school culture.
Many more classes should be co-taught so kids can see this. Lit/psychology; lit/history; lit/sociology
Sometimes I put groups of Ss who have a hard time working with others together so they don't mess up the other groups. :)
We must always start them where they r & build from there. Good lesson 4 a lot of things! https://t.co/R9DcmEbR2f

Awwwww Congratulations to you!
These are life skills that need to be cultivated & nurtured-eg adults not interrupting e/o during convos
My friend is a big fan of The First Five Days by Alan November I've got to read it.
