The Breakfast Club โ #BFC530 โ is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri โ 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Itโs a short week, have a great one! Truly thankful for family, wonderful Ss and Ts and especially our #bfc530 virtual educator friends! ๐ฆ Happy Thanksgiving week! #RelationshipsB4Tasks
We celebrate each other! We shout out to friends and colleagues for events both personal and professional and share the joy and successes, we thank each other for collaborating and working as a team! #bfc530 ROAR and Shout Out boards! ๐ ๐ #CelebrateMonday
Gday #bfc530
not sure the school itself does the supporting. We have some good teams and friendships that simply exist because people enjoy each others company
Good morning, #BFC530!
Welcome to the longest short week if the school year.
Karl from the Jersey shore, 3-6 ELA basic skills teacher checking in this AM. How yโall doinโ?
Good opportunities for relationship building may arise in #PD and cohorts at off-site workshops jointly representing the school. Also advisors may build relationships as they jointly guide Ss. #bfc530
This past Friday, we just had our annual Faith Development Day...we spend the morning gathering with educators from around the district and then we spend the afternoon with our own staff...focus on celebrating our faith, as a community. It was wonderful! #bfc530

I heard about this great idea called snowball fight, which you do at the beg of the year. Throw a paper w/ your name on it and you have check ins with that person occassionally thru the year #connections#bfc530
The team concept in working with the same students helps in building camaraderie within the staff as well. You are focused on bettering the same kids and over the years it transfers over from a work relationship to friendship among staff #bfc530
TImely question as we are going through a "dissention in the ranks" period among a staff that is generally very agreeable and supportive. Watching, reading, thinking this morning.
#bfc530
We've been working to make our Friday PD more cross-durricular and across grade levels. Without a little push Ts tend to gravitate to people they already know. We're working so that elementary & secondary to become more of a team.
#bfc530
My coaches have been so helpful - teaching and modeling lessons, observations, classroom management advice, testing, planning #bfc530 & their office is right across the hall if I have a quick question
I remember the staff throwing my a surprise baby shower on the adoption of my 1st child on the 1st day of back to school. I heard it was the 1st time they threw one for a guy. It was a special memory of a wonderful time in my life #bfc530
Staff socials (hot potato lunch, soup and salad pot luck, etc.) are usually organized once a quarter. But it seems like the best relationship building happens naturally, just from working together with common goals and interests. #bfc530

We have a really great staff social event called progressive dinner... It was Friday. We all ride a school bus to 1 colleague's house for appetizers, then back onto the bus to a 2nd house for dinner, then a 3rd for dessert. Always a good time with new friendships made. #bfc530
We celebrate monthly birthdays with a potluck luncheon. I have also noticed that the teachers there have been working together for a while that they treat each other like family, not just colleagues. The level of caring is just amazing! #bfc530
We try to do the same. Wednesday after our half day there is an invitation to all to go out for lunch. I hope many of my colleagues will go. Maybe a little social time would do the collective teacher soul some good.
#bfc530
I find that there's a fine line between friendships and cliques. Friendships among staff are awesome, but cliques can be very negative to the school culture.

Yes definitely. Theyve helped me get my feet underneath me and now I need less support than what I did at the beginning of the year but I still check in frequently #bfc530
We live by the mindset each S is our S, not a grade level. During meetings I find activities where staff collaborate w/ others from different grades. We also use a school wide Microsoft Teams page to collaborate & share. Sorry, ๐ตhasn't kicked in yet ๐#bfc530
Our school has a group of teachers who try to make everyone smile. Sometimes they have a โWoot Wootโ cart before school brining staff donuts, other times they put inspirational messages in mailboxes. #BFC530

When teachers feel like friends with their fellow staff, and not co-workers, the benefit trickles to the students. For me feeling like this allows me another reason to get up to go to school. I want to hang with my friends. #bfc530
Speaking of relationship building, here's a link to @BethHouf's latest blog.
Inspiring tribute to her gratitude for all her faculty, staff and stakeholders.
An AWESOME blog! #bfc530https://t.co/m0cld1cpm1
It is incredibly difficult even with the support! Its nice talking to people outside of my school who can give me other tidbits of knowledge, like here or with my momma @kathyiwanicki#bfc530
Having grade level collaborative teams and interdisciplinary teams that focus on the Ss we teach builds relationships among staff with common goals and focus! #bfc530
Good morning everyone. Our school supports staff relationships through activities such as going to the Providence Bruins, staff vs student games, and of course there is always the Friday afternoon staff meetings at the local pub. #bfc530
It's hard to have strong student relationships without modeling strong staff relationships. Students know. It takes an investment of time & energy to build mutual respect and trust. Start by rethinking the schedule to prioritize routine collaboration & open sharing. #bfc530

OUr 1st day back we had Ts form groups of about 3-4 Ts and go on a scavenger hunt around our community. They took selfies at each location and put them all into a slide deck. Ts formed stronger relationships and got to know the town at the same time. #bfc530
Our staff is very united & positive. But this actually takes some behind the scenes work. When a T comes into complain about a colleague, I used to brush it off (worst idea). Now I work to help them understand each other so that no negativity spreads #bfc530
Bit off topic, but does know of a kindness challenge taking place between Tgiving and the New Year? #bfc530 Iโm out of energy for creating my own right now - welcoming all suggestionsand resources!
Our @WeAreUnionSTEM PTO also regularly does nice things for teachers. I look forward to our Hump Day treats each week. Last week it was spiced cider and caramels. The lounge smelled wonderful! #bfc530
Make it an amazing day friends! Itโs a short week-enjoy it and enjoy your Ss, they will be very excited this week ๐ #bfc530#CelbrateMonday#TrendThePositive
@CoachKCullen#bfc530 And that is the driving force of many kids going to school - for the friendships. Whatever works to get them in the door is cool. After that.....

Yes! I definitely talk about my teacher friendships with the kids. And we pop into each other classes so they see us laughing and working together. Model Model Model:)

WOW! Something so simple and small just hit a really big nerve. Thank you, @carlameyrink, for the #EDUnugget of the day and the reminder to be the change we want to see. If something's not right, maybe it's in the way you're looking at the problem.

DM me and I can share the rubric our admin team developed. We gave bonus points for any group that took a picture with admin at these locations. Our admin team went out on this scavenger hunt as well. #BFC530
@KZieroff plans our monthly potluck, collections are taken for sick/hospitalized coworkers, and staff Christmas party. I'd like to see more staff bonding oops through the year. It couldn't hurt.

Most weekends are with family, but this weekend I was with my family of educators at @EdcampNJ and CoffeeEdu. There were 425 educators combined at both events!!!! The coolest tool I saw was @gimkit and I shared Google Tips - https://t.co/e5gsXnDXXx#bfc530#satchat#GoogleEdu
And all this time I have been crediting Finlandโs national curriculum!

First Finn kids outscore our kids (and most of the world) while doing almost no homework, taking few tests, playing their way to reading at 7, & spending far less time in school - now we know the real secret may just be raking their way to success #norakeleftbehind#haravointi
Finally posted a heartwarming video we made some years ago - The Last Milkman. It is about a man in rural Kansas who made home deliveries of milk into his eighties. https://t.co/151F9oaCbr#bfc530
Recently we had a potluck on a half day in-service bringing us all together. Itโs interesting you bring this up. Iโm not sure what else happens. You all are giving me ideas!!! #bfc530
The Finns are the best.
Here in NYC, Iโm Regrettably Rakeless, so useless to the firefighting effort.
