#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
#fcpslearn Hello!!! I'm Candace, an #APLang teacher and dept. chair at Millbrook in Northern VA! My favorite superhero is Antman, partly because of Paul Rudd, Ok... MOSTLY because of Paul Rudd.
#FCPSLearn Derek Oldfield, Instrutional Tech Specialist from Berkeley Co School in WV. Connected with NVa edus recently at #edcampNSV Fav superhero?!? Hmm... Walt Kowalski :)
A1: Encouragement. I love sharing the positives that I see with the students I get to lead. Also, for those that are not living up to their potential, finding the right words to call them to a higher level. #fcpslearn
A1: I can connect with the most closed off students. Academically or behaviorally, give me some time with them and I will caringly connect with them towards success! #fcpslearn
A1: I think my superpower is my ability to connect with students (thanks in large part to my age). But I also think that my Super Sass is my strongest power! (; #fcpslearn
A1: A colleague once referenced me not as an #earlyadopter but as an #instantadopter. I’d like to think my ability to adjust and adapt plays a role their. If those were my teacher powers, I’d be pretty pleased. #fcpslearn
A1- my super power would be the willingness to be silly. If it supports Ss learning I eill stand on my head and sing the lesson if I have to! #fcpslearn

#fcpslearn A1- My superpowers are compassion and empathy with extra sensitive hearing. I think students know I genuinely care and listen to them, and I like to let them know that their voice is important and that it matters both in my classroom and in their community.

#FCPSLearn A1 Reaching TOUGH kids! That's my game! I have a built in tough-kid radar that is like a homing beacon each time I walk into a school. They find me, I find them.
A1 My super power is being able to respond.
Often times we “react” to problems instead of listening carefully, developing a plan, and problem solving!
#fcpslearn
A2: my amazing co-teachers are a go-to when needed. I’m also blessed with an admin team whose open-door policy has saved my sanity on a few occasions #fcpslearn
A1: I laugh at everything. I act like a 6th grader. I get them, especially the wiggly, loud, kids that drive others crazy. That was me. Who am I kidding- that IS me... I find ways to make every ss show me what they know-outloud, in writing, by showing, etc. #fcpslearn
A2: My wife, an incredible educator, is the person that comes to my rescue and feeds me what I need to go on into the night, making positive changes for all. #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn A2: My bat(wo)men have to be my team teacher and my department leader. They always lend an ear when I'm frustrated or stuck. @MrsHLovesAPLang
A2: This is an easy answer. My mom. She's been my teacher inspiration since I was little but to be able to "talk teacher" with her is one of my favorite parts of my life and my job. She's always there for me when I need help, have questions, or to bounce ideas off of. #fcpslearn
A1.Passion and encouragement to share with Ss!Keeping the positives flowing, on whatever subject their working on, passion, for working with Ss to help them succeed and also love for the STEM subject matter. To enc. them and hope one day they will choose a career path! #fcpslearn

#fcpslearn A2: Easiest question I’ll answer tonight… when I need help at work, I go to @mrbillywatts and/or @KatieF. If I need help at home I go straight to my 4 year old. Her advice isn’t always sound, but it sounds like the most fun.
A2- @shmsdewees is my mentor friend and teacher superhero! So many times she helped change my mind set or helped me see things from others perspectives #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn Good question here! I have AMAZING colleagues in my department that I can always turn to when I need validation and support! We have a tight knit English Department Team! I also love the Twitter #PLC that I've been developing!!
A2 My superhero is my husband 😀 he is always willing to listen and then I often come up with other ideas to solve the problem when I’m talking to him #fcpslearn
A2 (cont) Though I will add that I also have a lot of other people that I look up to - coworkers, administrators, former teachers/professors. I feel really well conntected to a great PLC network!!! #fcpslearn
A3: @packarde4 Together we become an unstoppable dynamic duo! Brainstorming, planning and advice are a breeze when we squeeze in a hot second to meet these days. We make the minutes count #fcpslearn
A2: @m_schoenenberger - I had a hard year a few years ago. Called her to talk about it, rhetorically asked what I should have done differently. She told me. Realized I should have called her in October instead of June. Took that advice. Changed the way I teach. #fcpslearn
A3: I don’t have a sidekick… I have a lot of teachers that have let me be theirs. In the last week I met with a department, more than a few teachers, taught PE, worked with AP Research students, been in an Admin meeting, and collaborated with other ITCs. #fcpslearn#luckyITC
A3: Unlike the last, this one isnt as easy. A few... fellow WL teachers @ MHS. Brian Kelly, Lisa D'Arcangelis, @ScottLewisITC, @jaltendorf17 & @raegan_rangel - all people who are there to support what I do in the classroom! MERCI for your help in making me a superhero! #fcpslearn

A3 I don't really have a sidekick. I am kind of a lone wolf and do my own things. Hmmm, maybe I should take an add in the paper. What would I say?!? #fcpslearn
Yes! I'm glad our families understand how important this career is to us. We could easily sit back and do the minimum, but we won't settle for that. #fcpslearn#ambition
A4: An educator's utility belt would have many tech tools, relationship building activities, PLN connections, and possibly a cloning device! Among many other things of course!
#fcpslearn
A4: I'm lucky in a way because I do have a "utility belt" of sorts - my cart! It is loaded full of different games, activities, review materials, and "quick resource" activities to do. I'd be lost without my cart! #fcpslearn
A4: There isn’t a belt big enough for all the things I need… I love my Surface Pro 4, iPad, and MacBook Air… but most things now I do on my iPhone. If I bring coffee to @mrbillywatts I don’t need a belt… he has so many #NerdGoBags that are available for borrowing. #fcpslearn
A4: Terrific Q. Since this is superhero talk, I need something to freeze time and perhaps a memory ray...so I can zap myself when I hear hurtful things that have a negative impact. #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn A4-- my belt consists of my content knowledge, my experience, my willingness to try new things, and my desire to see all those I work with (teachers and students) see their fullest potential. I'm an optimist to the end, and I always look for the positive.
A4. Pipecleaners, rubberbands, paperclips, pencils, marbles, other odds and ends for Ss use in projects and activities and experiments! I think I'll need a big belt! LOL! #fcpslearn
A1: I think my superpower would be the ability (& necessity) to take on so many roles at once. My job doesn’t begin & end w/ teaching. I’m a teacher, leader, coach, mentor, cheerleader for my Ss, counselor to coworkers & Ss, & the list goes on... #fcpslearn
A5: If I had a superhero name... I believe it would be The Pathfinder. "The may not be easy, but The Pathfinder will always be there to guide you."
#fcpslearn
A1: Starting over with a positive attitude each morning and talking about all the YA books I’m reading with my students to (hopefully) ignite a love for reading #fcpslearn
A4: A mind reader. Not for academic purposes because I feel like my stations show that, but to know what is going on personally. Also, the ability to see in their lives outside of school. Like a crystal ball that I can see their home lives. Oh, and an accordian. #fcpslearn
A5: It’s my Twitter Handle! My math students used to mispronounce my last name and then thought it was funny that it was Spanish for number. When I joined Twitter, it seemed like an obvious choice. #fcpslearn Working on a logo for the website… #HereIComeToTechYourDaaaaaaay
A2: When I have a major crisis (personal or professional), my mom is my go-to superhero! As a former educator and principal and one of the best women I know, she always has an answer for me! #fcpslearn
A3: My sidekicks are my teammates! I have a great content and grade level team, as well as a fabulous leadership team. We all work together to make the magic happen each day! #fcpslearn
#fcpslearn Back in 2014 I invited a superhero to my class to speak about blogging in the math class. He taught my students a lot about commenting, crafting catchy blog posts, using images to enhance your story, etc. BLOGGERMAN! #wvedchat
#fcpslearn A5-- lol! 🤣🤣🤣Maybe Queen of the Quill? The Grammarian? I'll have to think on that one! 🤔
Honestly, my greatest super hero name is Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. H. I've had kids call me "Hendu" "Hendo" and "Hendog." I'll take them all! as long as I can be their champion!
