Q1. How often do you make it a point to acknowledge accomplishment/success?
-
-
P-ville is in the house. Loving the gif man
-
I have to check it out now, I see it on Netflix all the time.
-
LOL, let's just say this reflects how I'm feeling..and it's catchy
-
A1: I make it a point everyday!! I see acknowledgement and reinforcement as a big part of my job!
-
-
A1: Always acknowledge success. And don't forget to celebrate the small wins too.
-
A1: I'm encouraging & positive but I also don't want to give a false sense of accomplishment that lulls Ss and Ts into complacency
-
now we're talkin and my all time fav Remember the Titans
-
Also, had to hold it down since L-say is rocking it
-
-
A1: I like to make it a daily thing, if I see it I call it out. A simple high five to a coworker or kid makes a difference
-
I try to show it everyday, even for the smallest successes.
-
a1: I am using Classcraft this year so students earn XP for successes, individual and group.
-
Hello all! One of my fav movies is Keeping the Faith- strong characters from different backgrounds supporting each other
-
-
A1 Perfect timing, I'm trying to change conversation from "I can't" to "I can't yet.." is a huge celebrtn
-
A1: I try to do this as often as possible with students, staff and admin.
-
-
A1: I always try to say good job daily and help Ss see the small victories in what they do.
-
A1: I try to do this every day. Today we drew hands. Every student was a winner just for finishing, hands are hard!
-
A1 - I’ve made a concerted effort to tell people “Good Job!” after reading Appreciation Languages (hat tip to )
-
-
A1: Acknowledge accomplishments when I see it and meeting goals or on the path to meet goals weekly
-
-
Oh & I am currently a K-8 ELA TOA for an independent study school district with 14 sites in 3 counties :) but teach 6-12th Ss
-
What might that look like to acknowledge success for you? Small wins are huge
-
Q1b. Do you feel that this is appropriate frequency? Why/Why not?
-
Greg McWhorter Tech TOSA @ Val Verde USD. MY FAVORITE YEAR comes to mind. Overcoming personal demons for success.
-
A1: I try to help Ts acknowledge the awesome learning they build in classrooms. I enjoy seeing what come up with.
-
A1: I like to think I am very positive I am trying to focus on growth this year and acknowledge effort
-
Also, I'm eating an ice cream sandwich embedded in cookies, that's a success
-
A1- I try to point out all the accomplishments with both Ss and Ts. Even just getting to Sch can sometimes be an accomplishment
-
Welcome Greg. Great to have neighbors in the chat tonight
-
A1: Good point . We have to remember not everyone feels appreciated in the same ways. https://t.co/lRPnnhRk3u
-
-
A1 - I’ve made a concerted effort to tell people “Good Job!” after reading Appreciation Languages (hat tip to )
-
welcome! You are all over the place, so lots of places for successes (:
-
A1B:Yes, it is appropriate. We are building a culture of dependence and trust and there is no "I" in "TEAM"
-
A1b: The frequency of praise is different than giving encouragement. Anything given in excess goes down in value.
-
my coach is the bomb, thanks Jed
https://t.co/KwAXKgIDa8
-
-
A1: I try to help Ts acknowledge the awesome learning they build in classrooms. I enjoy seeing what come up with.
-
But I have to remember not to celebrate small successes too much if a step to long term goal. I need to reach goal.
-
online tool to gamify your class.
-
. Remind Ss that it is not what they can't do. It is what they can't do yet. When they get it, acknowledge it.
-
Wow,
that's awesome.
Thanks for including in your circle tonight.
-
A1b: Being positive is contagious.
-
A1b: I have to congratulate students often because it is hard to build confidence in art. I am sure this is true of all subjects.
-
Amen! Motivate not Mandate
-
So true https://t.co/22ca4jEWHr
-
-
. Remind Ss that it is not what they can't do. It is what they can't do yet. When they get it, acknowledge it.
-
I think you have to know your audience and who you are giving. Some need more frequency than others.
-
A1b: It depends on the Ss. Some need it more often than others because they get down on themselves so fast.
-
I am lucky to be a part of this PLC :)
-
A1b: I feel Ss & Ts need encouragement along the way. Weekly updates on goals reminded students of the bigger picture
-
-
A1b: it is appropriate to celebrate lots of things, big and small, only caution I would have is to not make it christmas everyday.
-
Q2 coming in less than 2 min
-
Nice fllw up, so powerful. How might we avoid just "telling" since that is a typical default and easier?
-
A1: Erika Tejeda-VanRensburg, Assistant Principal , favorite movie - Stand & Deliver, w/passion our students succeed
-
. That is why it is so important to know your students' situation and struggles.
-
Gamify reminds me that we celebrate small steps all the time, goes to feedback ideas
-
Same page man. Keep the vision and working hard toward those high bars.
https://t.co/UPhOUxJRE2
-
-
But I have to remember not to celebrate small successes too much if a step to long term goal. I need to reach goal.
-
A1- I think the only difference for celebrating is whether it's something I am loud about or something I say quietly to the person
-
I it have stuck in my head when he says Calculus and Kimosabe. Love it
-
never thought of that but yes I suppose we all lack confidence somewhere and yes, mine would be art
-
In my case I have mostly quality timers!
-
A1b - Hard to remember to acknowledge accomplishments, I don’t do it enough, need to do better at finding the small wins
-
Very true, celebrate specific things, and only celebrate the effort, not the reward or the like
-
One of my fav's
Mr Escalante was a true celebrator of success, well earned too.
-
sorry I'm late- catching up! Sonal from Romoland School District!
-
well-said sir, celebrate the effort most, push for
-
When "Angel" comes in late and says, "What's cal-cu-lus?" I always laugh
-
good one, glad you joined us - welcome
-
Q2 How do you recognize the accomplishments in a classroom? Describe the different kinds.
-
It's a part of how I'm hoping to foster curiosity in my Ss this year
-
A2: It might seem corny but no matter the age of the student, most like stickers. Really cool stickers. Just sayin'.
-
-
Yes, I couldn't remember his name, love it
-
A2: Recognizing success? How about donuts in AM, pizza in PM? LOL. Seriously, taking the time to analyze Ss work & giving feedback
-
A2: When a teacher isn't afraid to try something new with students. That's a BIG win!!
-
They also love them Sour patch kids, just saying
-
-
Yeah, I've seen it a few times, love this movie
-
A2: in the classroom & on the field I'm w stickers go a long way.
With Ts, I like to tweet what they do to the world.
-
A2: hand claps, high fives, XP points etc.
-
A2: I give out something called cool points for their accomplishments. As they earn cool points they can level up and get badges
-
. Glad you support that Mike.
-
-
Right, it's a classic moment.
-
I had a Twitter wall in class that I used dry erase strips to show appreciation to students in class kids loved being twitted.
-
A2: I usually compliment a particularly successful part of their work. I love to see students try over and over, then get better.
-
-
A2: have worked with Intervention students a lot and sometimes it is not the high grade but the highest climb
-
That sounds really cool, thanks for sharing.
-
-
I would love to see a pic of this!
-
. Yes. That goes in my bag of tricks. Great suggestion.
-
A2: I think any way Ss know you care is a win. Food, high fives, taking the time to ask about them, etc.
-
I am feeling that this year, very true
-
A1: I try to always acknowledge success regardless of how small it may be, simply saying good job can change a persons day.
-
A2) Recognize student growth as oppose to high grades
-
A2: Air High Fives from across the room works good.
-
-
Good point. Success isn't the same for every student.
-
A2: Love the idea of taking a quick pic and tweeting it out.
-
A2- I get to work 1-1 w/ my Ss so I find while talking to them; getting excited about their achievement &positive praise is gr8
-
Q3. Why should we celebrate success?
-
A2 Circulation and checking in are huge T moves that facilitate learning
-
A2- but I do love the thought of donuts or nachos :) when I was in a classrm we did sundaes
-
A2 - I like to ensure that I give credit, no matter how small the contribution, we are a team & I’m the least important member.
-
-
-
Small affirmations can be huge. I complimented a teacher who almost broke down and cried because she was feeling unappreciated.
-
We're using for online PD related to Ed tech... Love the digital badges on there.
-
-
A3: Recognition serves as motivation for most human beings. Motivate not Mandate
-
. Ture: there often doesn't seem to be time, so you have to MAKE time to post up to make heroes out of Ts and Ss.
-
A3- I think we all love to know we are doing something well, improving etc- so we celebrate to promote kindness & encourage growth
-
You feel energized to take on the next challenge.
-
A3: Success breeds success. Seen this firsthand in my reading intervention classes. So celebrate success.
-
A3: It lets Ss know that we see them and care for their achievements. Depending on their home life, they may not get that at home
-
Absolutely, had a Ss today, head down, bad day, checked in, circled around, repeat, end of period smiling
-
This is great and sad all at once!
-
I should have said high test scores rather than grades! There was always such an emphasis on that in the past...
-
YES , mobility required, even if pseudo
the Ss should feel you moving around the room, and not necessarily predictable.
-
awesome-everyone needs to be affirmed https://t.co/LQflYHCe3X
-
-
Small affirmations can be huge. I complimented a teacher who almost broke down and cried because she was feeling unappreciated.
-
A3: Celebrate success to encourage further growth.
-
A3: Life is so tough for so many of us. We all love a little recognition for the effort of a job well done!
-
A3: Because some kids never hear good news... take every opportunity you can to make them smile... https://t.co/OJYySwunzq
-
-
Q3. Why should we celebrate success?
-
We should celebrate successes. Our recognitions are the water in which Ss grow. It makes them feel they are valued.
-
Very important, very powerful, and I get my step count to increase.
-
A3- sometimes our celebrating might be the only positive thing someone gets that day. We can make a difference &
-
Well said Victor, we never know and so take that opportunity.
-
A3: Recognize success to motivate and build an environment where it is understood that 'mistakes' lead to growth & success
-
Absolutely and I like to choose different learners to be experts for rest of Ss
-
Any final thoughts on celebrating success for ?
-
A3: it's inertia, and it has better returns than it's opposite.
Being constructive is good, but always pushing motivation too.
-
A3: It is so easy and can mean so much, why wouldn't we?
-
A3 - Paycheck may get staff to the office, but feeling appreciated and valued helps get the hard work done.
-
A3: Everyone needs to hear they have done well, and I like being the person in a Ss life who makes them feel good about themself
-
TRUE! Some Ss never get encouraged or affirmed at home! Sad but true.
-
Refreshing tonight. Let's put it in action tomorrow!!
-
Appreciating others should be approached with an abundance attitude…unfortunately, too often it is seen with a scarcity lens.
-
FT When our Ss win, we all win Great chat tonight everyone, love this time together getting better https://t.co/06Y3G3O0wF
-
A3: because kindness & praise are free. Our students & teachers deserve a pat on the back & a high five every step of the way.
-
FT: Crazy tonight. I never answered a question. Had to fight to keep up. Thanks for a positive closure to my day all
-
FT: My personal philosophy in Ed is "Every time we try, we succeed". Recognized that kid that is trying his best
-
FT: I want to make it a point to celebrate success this week on my campus and in classrooms. https://t.co/uFZiO8MR7Z
-
