A2. Access to so much of what we need for resources. Wealth of info to help find resources. We also give our year plans to our library technician who pulls related resources before we ask... awesome #lcsdprolearning #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:11 PM EST

  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:18 PM EST
A3: A welcoming space, lots of tech available, the "quiet library" is no longer! #saskedchat
    In reply to @SaskSLA
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2 Tls should also be inquiry leaders - working with students on how to ask questions to take their research and learning further. #saskedchat
  • twoodward65 Nov 30 @ 9:19 PM EST
#saskedchat #sasksla q3: open scheduling, variety of “zones” so more than one group can be there at a time, library clubs, game clubs and maker spaces

A3 Transforming a library space into a learning commons means making students feel welcome - it needs to be a place they want to be. #saskedchat
  • twoodward65 Nov 30 @ 9:22 PM EST
#saskedchat #sasksla. Q3 lead school wide lit activities and book clubs, homework clubs
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:24 PM EST
A3 My students need to know that my first priority is to assist them with their learning needs. I keep a big sign by my desk that says, "Please interrupt me" and I mean it. I'm constantly trying to think of services that the library can provide that makes it appealing #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:24 PM EST
The space needs to be adaptable and modifiable - libraries are used for more than just reading and homework in the 21st century! Alternative seating, loud/quiet zones, etc. #saskedchat #tlchat

  • twoodward65 Nov 30 @ 9:25 PM EST
    #saskedchat. Collaboration will everyone
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:25 PM EST
A3 This means I proofread for students, or help them find resources via email or social media. Or help them with formatting of papers and essays. #saskedchat
  • SaskSLA Nov 30 @ 9:26 PM EST
Q4: How does a TL/IMS affect learning outcomes for students? (Teachers, please share your stories!) #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3 I also look for services that we can provide like providing colour printing, or selling coffee (I'm in high school). This makes the library a useful place for students to come. #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:29 PM EST
A4: TLs specialize in thinking outside the box! TLs can provide a much-needed refresh to learning units, incorporating tech and alternative ways of sharing and accessing information! #saskedchat
    In reply to @SaskSLA
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:29 PM EST
A4 I spend a lot of time providing formative assessment on student papers in HS. This often takes the form of checking citations, but also involves directing research questions to help with writing organization. #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:30 PM EST
A4: Simply hosting literacy events can help students meet reading and comprehension outcomes! Students need to know that they are in a community of readers! #elementaryeducation #reading #saskedchat #tlchat
    In reply to @SaskSLA
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:31 PM EST
A4 My teachers have often said that my sessions on how to take notes while researching have resulted in much stronger and more organized assignments. I think in that way I help with learning outcomes. #saskedchat
  • HeculuckDave Nov 30 @ 9:31 PM EST
A4. We have library techs wbo regularly supply curriculum relevant --- unit specific resources based on our year/unit plans. We also use a running records system in which library techs provide level specific books that are good fit books as needed for practice. #saskedchat
  • twoodward65 Nov 30 @ 9:33 PM EST
#saskedchat Q4- provide Pd to staff and build capacity, support and encourage inquiry, build relationships
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:35 PM EST
A4 I also try to stay involved in curriculum developments. For instance, the HS TLs in my division are currently reading and promoting novels that might fit ELA outcomes in the ELA 20 and 30 level. #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:37 PM EST
A4 Or when the new HS Science curriculums were rolled out a few years ago, I made a point of meeting with science teachers and administrators to discuss the resources that they would need to implement those new curriculums. #saskedchat
  • SaskSLA Nov 30 @ 9:37 PM EST
    Q5: How does a TL/IMS affect school culture? #saskedchat #tlchat
  • SaskSLA Nov 30 @ 9:38 PM EST
It is a difficult time for TLs! Have you seen that impacts Ss and Ts? #saskedchat
    In reply to @ginalhanson
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:41 PM EST
A5 I think the library can be safe spot in the school that embraces diversity and does not judge students on what they want to read or how they choose to study. Everyone is welcome. Need a quiet space, we have it. Want to have a study group, we do that as well #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:41 PM EST
A5: In elementary schools, it is important for students to see their teachers reading! TLs oversee reading incentives and can help pair students with books! Always be inspiring others! Kids who love reading become adults who love reading! #saskedchat #tlchat

Hey #saskedchat things look like they are going great. Finally getting time to drop in from Iqaluit NU to see how things are going. Seems @SaskSLA is doing a tremendous job as moderator!
  • HeculuckDave Nov 30 @ 9:44 PM EST
A5. An amazing role model for reading and the worlds that lie beyond the book cover. Could not live without them... #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:46 PM EST
A5 I think to the library can help show students that learning lies beyond the walls of the school. Information is everywhere, and our ability to access it and even create it and share it can happen anywhere. #saskedchat
  • SaskSLA Nov 30 @ 9:46 PM EST
Q6: What is the value of collaboration between Ts ad TLs/IMSs? #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:48 PM EST
A5 Libraries are gathering spaces - whether to read, collaborate, listen to speakers, or pursue cross-curricular activities. It is a place where we come together, and I think that is powerful in creating a welcoming school culture. #saskedchat
  • kellywchris Nov 30 @ 9:48 PM EST
A6 - Collaboration is so important in today’s schools - Ts cannot do it alone - it takes a team effort and TLs/IMSs are an important and integral part of that team! #saskedchat
  • kellywchris Nov 30 @ 9:49 PM EST
A6 - Learning today isn’t contained in the classroom - it’s all around us & TL’s/IMSs can provided valuable input at a variety of junctures during the learning continuum. #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:50 PM EST
A6: Teachers can model collaboration for their students. A TL and a Teacher in the classroom means a better student-to-teacher ratio, which means better learning outcomes! #saskedchat #tlchat
    In reply to @SaskSLA
  • twoodward65 Nov 30 @ 9:50 PM EST
#saskedchat Q6: collaboration is invaluable to all - helps tls/mls lead, program and purchase and research shows it affects student achievement positively- a must do! Helps students and staff to recognize the unique skill set and knowledge and value of library and tls/mls
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:50 PM EST
A6 Two heads are better than one! A TL might help a T see possibilities unexplored. A TLs indepth knowledge of resources may lead a T to try something new or unknown. #saskedchat
  • HeculuckDave Nov 30 @ 9:51 PM EST
A6. Incalculable... literacy is the only key to all subjects. It begins with library/resources support and expertise. Thanks to all library tech and teacher-librarians. #saskedchat
  • SaskSLA Nov 30 @ 9:52 PM EST
Q7: How are libraries and TLs/IMSs supporters of collaboration and innovation? #saskedchat
  • kellywchris Nov 30 @ 9:52 PM EST
That is why the opportunity to collaborate is invaluable - they should be included as part of grade teams and collaborate Ts planning time. #saskedchat They can also bring a fresh perspective.
    In reply to @LeBoldusLibrary
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:53 PM EST
A6 Collaboration with a TL means a T can often get access to the most current resources available. Or a TL can help prepare resources for Ss, freeing a T to spend time on other areas. TLs can also assist with assessment. #saskedchat
  • StBernLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:54 PM EST
A7: Provide a space for collaboration, along with expertise on how to use collaboration tools and tech! TLs should be leaders of collaboration and must stay up-to-date on tech and tools. #saskedchat
    In reply to @SaskSLA
  • kellywchris Nov 30 @ 9:54 PM EST
A7 - They can be the hub for collaboration whether its with Ts or Ss. The library offers non-classroom space where inquiry is often the focus of what is happening. Great things can happen in the library! #saskedchat
  • LeBoldusLibrary Nov 30 @ 9:57 PM EST
A7 TLs/IMSs can help create an atmosphere of collaboration simply modelling working together with a T. TLs can often work with Ss on a different level, which may lead to different discussions with Ss and a broadening of ideas. #saskedchat
  • tgrantt Nov 30 @ 9:57 PM EST

Q8: What is the greatest challenge to libraries and TLs/IMSs in 2017? #saskedchat Had to squeeze in one last question!
  • kellywchris Nov 30 @ 9:59 PM EST
This was my walk home tonight at just after 6pm. The snowflakes were the size of a Loonie. #saskedchat
