a1 listen, watch, and directly seek their experiences.
A1) ask questions! In my experience, Ts love being valued for what they know and letting it benefit others! :)
A1 I want veteran teachers on our Advisory Council (as well as newer ones). is listening too!
What is our definition of veteran educator? Veteran in the profession or veteran in the school or both? Does it differ bt schools?
. That's a great point. Age, years in prof, yrs in country? How would you define it?
I think it's some sort of equation....variables could be yrs in prof & yrs in country but also continuous learning
equation between yrs in prof & yrs in country is complicated - 20 yrs exp but only 1 yr in country, not nec 'veteran'
Inverse can be true as well. Think key is tapping in to experience that benefits school & students
A1 Make them mentors if their exp is what sch wants others Ts to hv
A1 Think article highlights import of getting 2 know staff & not put people in boxes. Never know hidden talents that might help Ss
Townsend has been quoted saying he only plays shows to get paid is he a good model?
Q2 How can schools utilise the skills or knowledge of elders in the community?
true! Mindset has a huge impact on how veteran someone acts
A3. Long term thinking and planning
A1. During orientation we made human timeline in leadership & divisions - least to most experience. Enlightenting & empowering!
A1. We have several committees for our school improvement planning...veterans can be heads of committees w/ variety of members
A2: Gain a sense of a community's history through interviews, class visits, etc. History comes alive thru the people who lived it!
A1. Each year we have building hosts for each of our teacher buildings - veterans welcoming new colleagues to school & country.
Not for me. Maybe for someone looking at it from business side. He's got a product & he's making profit supply-demand
