Fab #CollaborativePD chat starting right now.
Can't wait to learn more about how Communities of Practice are a key component of effective professional development. #globaled#edtech4good

A1: It has put targeted and appropriate PD within reach of Ts that used to be isolated because "they are the only one" in their school/district. (The only CS teacher, the only Tech Coach, etc.) #collaborativepd
A1: Social learning is transforming professional development because it gets at the heart of how learning is designed—with the the company of others. And it helps keep the learning on going! #CollaborativePD
A1: teachers taking ownership of their professional learning. It’s not mandated. They’re growing bc they want to and focusing on areas they decided upon. #CollaborativePD

A1 The 4Cs come alive! Ts are able to learn from and with one another. Each person brings their strength to the table. Soft skills are important, and social learning helps. Works for Ss too! #CollaborativePD

A1 #collaborativepd PD has become more flexible and richer... Lots of choices when, where and how to improve and gain skills and experiences that help promote positive change and transformation.
And far and wide!! I love collaborating with folks across the ocean, across the country, across the city. The access to ideas & creativity is truly endless! #CollaborativePD
A1: I can choose the PD I want. I make it my own. I can view as much or as little as I want. It's personalized, and I think that's the key! #collaborativepd
A1 I think it has made a huge transformation, people who connect can share fears, take risks, learn about new opps, we create new PLNs and PLCs, #collaborativepd
A1 - Social learning, like twitter, is changing PD for the better. Just today I printed a journal article on covert vs. overt retrieval practice...specific to what I want to learn about to improve my classroom. #CollaborativePD
A1: Social learning is and has always been a form of professional development. What we really need to ask is how social learning can be facilitated, recognized and amplified within schools, districts and organizations. #CollaborativePD
A1 #collaborativepd I appreciate and love the choices available and the amazing people that I meet. My colleagues challenge my thinking and inspire growth. Great colleagueship!
Connection and collaboration empower teachers to take control of their own learning and lift up the profession. It places teachers in control and promotes expertise from within, not above. #CollaborativePD

A1. Social leaning has saved my career and I’m not even employed. I’m light years now ahead of where i was before i found twitter & podcasts. How are Ts surviving out there w/out social learning? #CollaborativePD
A1: Social learning has allowed so many doors to open up! I’ve been able to hear great ideas from all over the world and learn about opportunities that I never would have known existed. #CollaborativePD
#collaborativePD A1 Time was feedback (criticism & encouragement) came from people an arms length away. Thanks to the #edtech enabled social presence change & learning come from a more diverse set of folk than I..
Well, that sounds like an article right up our alley! Any interest on sharing it in our CoP? https://t.co/6sqMZQ8US4 If you want to add under DISCUSS, we'd love to read it and share with community! #CollaborativePD
A1: Social learning gives you the ability to have a support team that encourages you in areas that interest and drive you! Ts are learners with feelings too! #CollaborativePD

A1 Social learning, enabled by #edtech, is allowing the professionals in my district opportunities to connect with others who are experts in the things that interest them, even when we don't have peers in district for them to work directly with! #peqpantherpd#collaborativepd
I believe CoP's are built by dedicated educators inquiring into their practice and their passions. We remain curious as learners and use technology and digital tools to connect and collaborate. #CollaborativePD
A1: a big part of the social learning is emotional for me. It's just very reassuring that there are peeps near and far who share my passion, seek community and offer support #collaborativepd
A1: Social learning allows us to bring the knowledge of all together. This truly makes for a transformative PD experience. Learning and collaborating to create the best experience for our learners. #CollaborativePD
A1: It’s all about the connections we form. Connections with the content, and in this case the connections with each other. That’s the power of #CollaborativePD & being #BetterTogether
A2 #collaborativepd The features are fluid and get defined by people. The idea for me is to share and highlight my colleagues. Through lifting others ideas and voices we encourage risk and leadership through voice. Our presence is defined by our actions & how we encourage too.
A2. My favorite example of a thriving community of practice this past year has been #TeachSDGs
➡️ shared purpose
➡️ building sustained relationships and taking on shared responsibilities.
➡️ intentional, ongoing and collaborative
#CollaborativePD
A2: Some of the defining features of online Communities of Practice (CoPs) for me are who is learning with me, for how long, and how we can interact with one another. #CollaborativePD
A2 Sincere engagement with an openness to learn, connect, and grow. There is synergy to support all students and colleagues like a band riffing off each other making beautiful music. #CollaborativePD#chatcameo
A2 I'm in #collaborativepd chat while my wife is doing a video session with peers in the #BCBA community and we're ENJOYING and LEARNING because we are interacting with peers with similar interests and new expertise. The world is small because of #edtech!

A2: Our world has evolved and so has the way we investigate and learn! Having our professional learning sync up with the fast pace of life ensures you continue to open your mind to new ideas! Through that we grow and so do our Ss #CollaborativePD
#Truth
Learning & the path to success (and iterative success) is:
💥messy
💥unpredictable
💥unique
💥personal and personalized
💥dynamic
💥powerful

A1: Social learning allows us to learn from each other and benefit from everyone's personal strengths! It really puts the PD in the teacher's hands. #CollaborativePD
Absolutely. It all begins with empathy & understanding. Understand that we all make mistakes and when we take risks together and learn from the mistakes, we learn in such a deeper and richer way. #CollaborativePD
A2: A common space where individuals can share resources, best practices and insights. As learning deepens, there is the ability to learn from peers, review their works, and derive greater understanding of our own practice through reflection and socializing. #CollaborativePD
#collaborativePD A2 Their informality. What rules exist (etiquette, etc) are determined by participants rather than a gatekeeper like HR. I especially enjoy the playful banter that sometimes raises its head.
A2: defining qualities might be a shared purpose or commitment to learning, flexibility in when or how that learning occurs, and how to demonstrate/reflect on it #CollaborativePD
A2: Defining features of CoPs: transparency, ongoing/ continuous, openness with intentional engagement opportunities. Be sure to always give and Get support when there is a need #CollaborativePD

A3 #Collaborativepd Connecting in chats, professional groups that serve and promote positive change.. #teachsdgs@TeachSDGs is an amazing group of changemakers making the world better 1 idea at a time..
I have a passion to bring curiosity into instructional coaching to build connection and collaboration. I connected with other educators to form a small book club through Google tools. #CollaborativePD My other CoP? #cyberPD! Getting ready to read and share in July!
A3 we created a community of practice site for the robotics ed course that multiple classes could share their learning and learn comments on what was being created. Tutorials and more #collaborativepd
A3 Created our own digital COP in district using #peqpantherpd to facilitate our teachers across all district schools being able to share the awesome PD experiences they find online. See something, share something! #collaborativepd
A2. A collective group of individuals that are helping each other accomplish something, solve a problem, and/or communicate around a certain topic or topics in an online environment. #CollaborativePD
A3. By sharing classroom practices with CoP so that the same lesson is carried out by different groups of learners who then share virtually. #collaborativepd
My first year going paperless my invaluable CoP was twitter! I learned so much from mistakes others made first and were so willing to share. The convenience of having so many tweeps to reach out to accelerated my learning #CollaborativePD
My favorite thing about social PD is that I can come into a chat like this, have never heard of COP, but feel safe enough to be vulnerable and take new risks in learning! Love reading everyone’s ideas and thoughts! #CollaborativePD
I love how Voxer can connect educators together. I am creating a book club for literacy coaches this summer there and can't wait to get started! #CollaborativePD
A3: As far as tools, back in the day, it was ning, now it's @participate portals, Google Groups, Facebook groups- Here's a tought though, if CoPs are to be "intentional, ongoing and collaborative" can you "create" them, or do they have to "grow" into a CoP? #collaborativePD
A3: Very active in various CoPs when my school leveraged a new LMS- @CanvasLMS. @Twitter and the canvas community platform played powerful roles in deciding best practices in the shift for all of our stakeholders. #collaborativePD
Where to start? How about a CoP on literacy coaching, instructional coaching, teacher learning, teacher education, coaching with technology and teachers as readers? Love the brainstorming! #CollaborativePD
A2. A connected and participatory learning approach is the heart of any effective CoP, which cuts across informal and formal learning contexts as learning happens anywhere and everywhere.
(Love this visual! ) #collaborativePD
A4 I'm lucky that I get to participate a great deal in the #edtech and #infosec communities already via Twitter, but I would love to attend some more conferences to put faces to Twitter handles (we don't do names in #infosec). #collaborativepd
Ready for a surprise?
