Interested in student-driven classrooms? Join Dr. Nancy Sulla @nsulla (author of Students Taking Charge, Its Not What You Teach But How, Building Executive Function: The Missing Link to Student Achievement, and more) and educators from all over in #LATICchat on Thursday nights at 8pm ET. We hope to bring together a community of educators to share insights, stories, examples, pictures from their classrooms, and more. We welcome all educators to join; no need to be running a #LATIC classroom.

A1) I want my Ss to remember that I am their biggest advocate! I put a lot of effort into celebrating my Ss individual and class achievements to ensure that they felt proud of their growth #LATICchat
A2) I believe the Ss wanted the Ts at CWTES to remember that although they might not have showed up to school feeling motivated, they did leave feeling motivated. And tired! :) #LATICchat
A1: I want my students to remember that I always listen and care about what they do in and out of my classroom. I hope they remember me showing up at their events and cheering them on. #LATICchat

I saw so many students proud when they moved up a level in IRLA, excited when they passed RC tests, and excited to always share how well they do daily! #LATICchat
Ss in Washingtonville finished their ALU on habitats with letters to the head of maintenance on their plan to replace animal habitats on their campus that were destroyed by construction this year. #LATICchat
A3) My Ss loved showing off meeting their Reading Counts goals, mastering multiplication facts, moving up in reading levels, and providing a meal for the custodial staff. #LATICchat
A3: My students are proud of their plans to fight an invasive species in my yard, their plans for alternative energy in our school, and how far they have come since September! #LATICchat
A3: I loved hearing students tell me how they overcame challenges, or what they did when they did not know what to do (two of my favorite questions to ask)... those are the skills that set them up to solve any problem! #LATICchat
A4 Don’t give up persevere even when it becomes difficult. Know your teachers are there to support you and push your thinking and not give you the answers.#LATICchat
A4 In the words of Spider-Man “great power comes with great responsibility” of you want to own your learning you need to be responsible for your choices. #LATICchat
A5 I’ve thought about having kids make how to sheets to help with my launch next year. I’ve also had kids write letters to my incoming class in the past letting them know what to expect #LATICchat
#LATICchat
A3 their self selected problems they found in their community. It was tied to no grade but the one they judged themselves on. Some of these projects will continue to be refined for years and may lead to future careers.
I asked students to think about what they loved and what they didn’t like this year. They are going to write it for me tomorrow to help plan next year. They were so excited to be part of that!! #LATICchat
A5) Students at Chester Taylor ES @CWTESPrincipal had an opportunity to visit the next grade level and learn from the students there how their classrooms work. #LATICchat
A5) Not a product, but the 2nd grade Ss visited 3rd toward the end of the year to see how we use the same LATIC structures in 3rd, but maybe appear different. One of my Ss said to a 2nd grader "this is our help board, but you should know what that is!" #LATICwin#LATICchat
A6) Hmmm ... you could have students leave a letter, booklet, video for the next class and then have a "buddy" period after the school year starts where they come back to the class to talk to the students about their transition. I see surveys! #LATICchat
A6: One of my students from last year inspired my alternative energy unit, and helped me design it. She wanted to come in to work with my classes, but she didn’t get the opportunity with her own end of year work. #LATICchat
A7 Ss in Byram Hills reading intervention are making a junk journal about their reading journey to take them through the summer. I am now thinking to start it at the beginning of the year and revising throughout the year #LATICchat
A7 I know we have started to as a district look at problems to solve maybe Ss could continually go back to this list and add/cross of things that they have worked on. #LATICchat
#LATICchat
A7 they begin the year creating learner profiles. It would be interesting to revise these and see changes. Could lead to a reflective writing to the next class about the importance of flexibility.
I am seeing a dashboard of local problems that students could monitor how they engage with throughout their K-5 years... and beyond. What a "yearbook" that would be! #LATICchat

A8) @Tanya_IDE , remember when the team members, at the end of year one, wrote "If I Knew Then What I Know Now" statements?Ts could have Ss do this and keep an annual yearbook. #LATICchat

A8 I have begun to collect their D squared project and keep it as proof that not only can kids chose their work but succeed in that on top of an state test given.
A8 I try to take lots of pictures of students in action so that when I want to give examples I have real Ss pictures/ work for others to relate to. The Ss love seeing familiar faces #LATICchat
