A1 Echoing many responses on The best PD is found at edcamps. Ts teaching Ts, personalized, participatory, fun.
My AEL training was pretty powerful. Most of the educators there had years of leadership experience. It was like a master class.
Either that or something that contains unicorn .....

A2 - Tech has helped me connect and grow. I get to learn from so many different people accross the world. Getting connected
That sounds amazing! I want to know more about that!
A1 If many are saying Ed Camps, what does that say about our district/state PD? What does that mean for our instruction?
RT A2: ability to connect with educators around the world. i feel the same way! LinkedIn is awesome for that
Kyle Hamstra, Elementary Science/Tech Specialist, Cary, NC. Always look forward to learning in . https://t.co/o1YwTAfNMW
A2 I can learn anytime I want about anything I want!
A1 Some of the best online PD was from courses! Best PD on delivering PD!
A2: I love makes it easier to share, grow and Learn from Peers and experts in the field. Connects authors to readers
A2: As an company, technology helps us reach others. We can provide resources for others to learn - but...
A2: Tech makes learning more interactive, at my own speed and time. Also more relevant because I have to MAKE time. Choose wisely
forgot all about twitter chats--as powerful as edcamps just from the sheer amount of relevant info you get!
I can't imagine not having the resource of all the collective knowledge and expertise that you all bring = priceless
A2 I love that it provides me with opportunities to grow WITHOUT taking me away from the school day! It allows me to focus more.
A1: The best PD I've had was attending an EdCamp where I get to choose what I learn while collaborating w/passionate educators.
A1: A few I immediately thought of were ones where I was stretched and had to 'work' to make new sense of what I was working.
A2 Global connectivity, changing PK/ECE forever?
A2: also helps us communicate and share ideas with others - like all of you! We love participating in .
A2 tech has changed all because learning available anytime/anywhere
A2: Twitter has changed my world. Following thought leaders in our industry inspires me every day
districts have a hard time with choice. They want uniformity.
A2. Tech has really allowed my ss and I to flourish in the classroom.
A1: The Summit. Amazing PD. I learned so much in 2 days! I'd do it all again!
A1:❤️ Academy! Like minded Techie Libs sharing the BEST in practice (not just theory) to make each other stronger!
I need to remember this myself as a principal for my staff :).
A1: A 6-week reading, writing & creative challenge I ran in which Ss & Ts asked questions that helped shape what we focused on.
A2: Tech makes it always relevant, personalized, timely, and since I choose it-it's always applicable!
That's on my list of books to read. Just recently finished Procrastinate on Purpose
Something needs to change/evolve.
A2: I'm able to learn from educators all over that are better than me. Many online resources have improved my prof practices.
A2: Tech has changed me as an educator through social media. Twitter had become an amazing resource to learn from other Ts.
A2 Twitter is definitely the most powerful change for me. Also webinars, skyping w/other educators, online courses/wkshps
A2 Opportunities to connect w other great edus via Twitter has helped me grow and better provide for Ss.
A2 tech.. has let my classroom reach beyond 4 walls. sharing ideas with others and learning from peers around the world.
Oh yes. Just presenting my random thoughts ...
Q3: Have you ever participated in fully online PD? Do you prefer online learning or face-to-face? https://t.co/PlqBzvO5IG
Book Clubs NOT just for Ss who already have an established reading identity. Makerspace tied into curriculum.
My gets longer and longer!
A2 Technology has grown me to new heights of efficiency! The engagement for my SS is phenomenal! I'm blessed 1:1 iPads for us!
I love how this incorporated Ss and Ts! What a neat idea
A2: getting parents involved. Giving my ss chance to learn anywhere, anytime, behavior management and creation.
A2 Thinking differently leads to new creations, ideas, relationships, & opportunities that are worth pursuing. Give it a try!
A2: This yr I am new to my campus and we are doing a 📚 study via twitter. It has allowed me 2 build relationships & grow with T's
A2: Sky is the limit! There is no excuse & no waiting to be trained! Any question/task you need training on is at your fingertips!
A2: Has changed everything! The blogs I follow and my Twitter PLN keep me current and informed in a way not possible w/o tech.
My best digital prof learning? No doubt-Twitter!
A3 Yes I've participated in and we have delivered/facilitated all online PD in our district!
Information is more accessible, and it has given me the increased ability to adapt and collaborate.
A2: global collaboration projects and mystery Skype/google hangouts/ for lessons for daily 5 station
A2 iMovie, for my PK/K students. Can't wait to see what they do this year.
Was a game changer for me as well Tim, can't see how I would do without my PLN now, learn/hear so much daily
A2: As a writer I spend a lot of time alone, but when I emerge I have a global community to run ideas by & test programs with.
A2: Technology has allowed Ss to take learning outside the classroom and has freed my class up to do more interactive lessons
A2 Engaging Ss with , connecting them with experts, sharing great learning with parents via blog and tweets.
SO true!!! "they didn't train me on that" should not be uttered! https://t.co/ADQfqcy9Nq
A2: Sky is the limit! There is no excuse & no waiting to be trained! Any question/task you need training on is at your fingertips!
How do you best utilize Twitter for your personal learning?
A3 online; w/ two little ones at home, is wonderful.
A2: tech, specifically twitter, has connected me to a whole world of edu resources that I might have never known existed
A2 For my ELLs technology ensures that I cover all 4 domains! So important to allow all SS to have a chance to use all 4!
A2: My best digital tool for PL? Twitter no doubt!
- Audible has changed my life.I can now "read" on my commute and while in the shower/getting ready
A2: Twitter chats allow for connecting beyond your district and give you new ideas. Also like backchannel idea for certain PDs.
A3: I like them both for different reasons. On-line often works better for my schedule; but f-2-f has social components
A3: Both my Master's degrees were online. I loved it, but its not for everybody.
Oh and for parent communication and behavior log!
A3 does count? If Twitter doesn't .. guess there's online courses
A3 I like connecting w/ people a doing "bits of learning" on line, but don't think face-to-face should be replaced! F2F has power
I'm a pen and paper gal. Love to scribble and underline as I read!
A3: I've found so many PDs through LinkedIn's international teachers platform. Online is more flexible but less personal
Given who is holding the cup it's entirely possible, though it would be pretty unicorn...
A3: I would love an online pd!
A2a is a mechanical means, like a pulley-system, ramp, lever.. that help us do/reach for more than otherwise.
A3: I created a blended PD for my Ts. Most liked the mix.
I've never done it. Is now?
A2: Tech/social media has influenced me as an educator. Twitter has helped connect me to other Ts with expertise.
A2 Tech makes me immediately seek out an idea/wonder. Hm, could I loop a Youtube video/song? Google. viola: infinitelooper
Depending on the discussion, hence, online especially with Twitter allows the individual to view approaches👀from all over the globe
I completely agree! We can learn what we need whenever we need it!
A3: The experience you have in a face to face leads to great conversation, especially when w/ teachers.
Great! How do you get parents involved?
Thanks for following Jamie. I look forward to sharing stories and not perfect hats.
A2: Tech in general, but mainly Twitter chats like this one, have inspired me. I tend to be ahead of the curve with PD thx to you!
A3 - Did a online video summit this August. Loved it! I was able to watch videos/listen to them while driving
A3-I have done both and I like both! Depends on the subject matter as to the delivery!
A3. Wanted to learn about home/school and comm. ed about 20 yrs ago and LOVED the online course teacher & I took together.
A3 Let's not forget about ! Some great online PD!
A3: yes. Again is a fun, engaging way to interact & learn fr peers and pros. I like the comfort of home & multitasking
A2: The most powerful PD for me over the last 2 years has been wealth of knowledge shared w/me on Twitter EduPLNs!
I'm beginning a book study on on Excited for the potential Great 4 growing relationships
A3 It depends...some topics I want to be F2F w/hands on opportunities, but others I want to do in my time, my space, my pace.
A2: talked 2 T who said saved her career-connecting w/ Pp who have have similar interests prevented
A3: Greatly prefer online when it's designed well. Sloppy design of online PD is frustrating...
A3: Our webinars are fully online. We enjoy it because people nationwide can join in, ask questions, and share with us.
A3 Yes! Right now completing a Gifted PD online. I love that it doesn't interrupt my daily schedule, & its time efficient.
Participating in weekly chats such as and
A3: H participated in online PD/training & think it has merit. Has to be well built/implemented same as face to face
Ooh! forgot about blogs! I agree!
A. 2 technology has opened endless possibility in the way material is presented to the Ss
A3: Depends on the PD. Meeting face with face and connecting with fellow educators in person is still important to me.
A3 I have part. In both I like the flexibility of an online session & connecting with that audience
A3: Face-to-face and online both have their benefits. What do you feel are benefits of both?
A3 A few years back CPS librarians had gamified PD. Not bad. Think I prefer f2f for peer discussion/collab
wouldn't have missed it with my former LE teammate!
Isn't just da best? LOVE reading the comments everyone is sharing! Thank you!
Oh I am too. I buy it paperback, kindle, and audible... so I spend too much but get the full experience :-)
A1) Diff. Instruction Conf. Saw & learned from Changed my teaching
A2: Tech has helped me connect instantly with
A2b Mostly it brings forth a plethora of ideas i can pick/choose from. Likewise it enables the creation/expression of stuff.
A3 I participated in a virtual EDCAMP and it was phenomenal! Best part-I was still in my Jammie's! A girl has to rest!
Thank you. It created an outline based on the book, but have learned Ss & Ts inevitably amaze me. Gotta be flexible.
A3: I like a healthy mix of online and F2F learning...personal connections for me are stronger for me in person than online.
A3: I love online because I can complete on my timeframe, but the convo that comes out of F2F is priceless
Hey, ! My good friend recommended I join tonight. Mind if I jump in late? IC from Texas
A3b: With 2 active teenagers and work and volunteering, my own PD could be put on back burner. Online PD makes it possible 4 me.
A3: Have participated in online course. Maybe depends on what you're learning as to preference?
Aldine we have an instructional technology PD called & it's totally online. The discussion boards allowed u 2 interact
We need that sense of personal connection to learn. But we can sometimes have that personal connection even online
A2 Twitter Chats allow me to learn alongside great minds!
There certainly are many benefits to F2F. Especially if it's engaging and relevant.
A3 my trainings begin F2F, have ongoing online discussions, with instructional coaching in between. Ts and admin favor this
A2c So mostly I use tech for rabid/rapid exploration of ways of knowing & doing to apply to my work [in oft-curious ways].
A2) Allow Ss to use mobile devices as a tool for instruction & learning. Allows Ss to research & investigate
It definitely is helpful when you have that flexibility to allow you to connect whenever / wherever you are.
A3: On-line is convenient & easy to meet others far away, but for me, facetoface is still the BEST if you can!
I've participated in the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference for many years as an avatar :-)
Most of my "Reading" is through Audible while running or driving. Working on finishing Grit by
So true, has to be well structured & managed to be successful, same as face to face imho
A3 online is flexible, but I still prefer f to f especially with school teammates for social component and relationship building.
A3: I've participated in fully online PD. I like a mix of online and face to face. Having a Twitter chat alongside helps engage!
A3: I have participated in full online PD, including a fully online masters program. I like flexibility in online PD.
A2 What would we do without it?
I'm new to voxer...but so interested
A3 with the fabulous this summer we had a book study on , it was an amazing experience!
A3: I like online PD, esp. with a slow chat element so ideas can percolate, but I also appreciate f2f relationships/discussions
A3: also have done several online trainings. Very informative and engaging, while allowing for doing of other things.
A3a I’ve ’d. I’ve ’d online. The fully online PD I’ve gotten the most from is.. . It [learning] is out there.
A4 PLN have blogs that I refer to, or DM & asked deeper qs. Immensely helpful
A4: connecting with like-minded, learning different viewpoints, knowing youre not alone in your thoughts
A3: I earned my masters online, it worked with my schedule, but I needed to take classes with people I knew in person
A3: That's well-said. I agree with . In addition, hands-on learning is priceless. https://t.co/PMlPJ3y7Lz
A3 It depends...some topics I want to be F2F w/hands on opportunities, but others I want to do in my time, my space, my pace.
A3: My entire Masters Degree was online, so I am 100% okay w/online learning..however...I perfer the real time convos F2F offers.
A3: Just launching online learning experience around classroom management and excited to see benefits of online platform!
A3: I've had completely online PD, and enjoyed it, but when it's a new district initiative I prefer f2f so Ts can collaborate.
A3b There’s some cool/crazy stuff out there.
A4: Librarians are often isolated in that they are only librarian in their building -- PLN gives a community
A4 My is meaningful b/c it is filled with passionate edus. Many Ts get to meet in person adding depth to learning.
A4. Meaning comes when relationships are developed - plant seed, water, add sunshine - honest caring about others.
A4: Feedback is critical...I crave interaction...love people that engage in convo on Twitter or tag me in posts
A3: I like components of both; like working at my own pace, dislike not having an actual person to talk to when I need help.. 1/2
A3) I prefer face-to-face when attending AND presenting PD. However, PD delivery is changing.
A4 I learn more with people who think differently from me and will challenge my thinking respectfully.
A4: then one day, finding out on accident, that you work with THE :)
A4: respect, trust, connection, ingenuity, creativity, et al. Great ideas from great educator minds.
A4: I ❤️ that my network of principals is so diverse. We have different strengths which makes us powerful
A4a Diversity. Being a learning experience designer my edu-world’s different than the teachers I learn the most from..
A4: We create a through our webinars and online resources.
A4: What makes PLN learning meaningful is when you can teach someone an idea and you can learn an idea to implement immediately.
Hey I'm late! Thought it was 8:30 p.m.
Q4 - I think its a sharing and supporting of ideas that makes it useful.
A4: I love connecting with people who use different methods of teaching than I do. Getting ideas for new LPs.
Any thoughts on how online could improve to provide those real time convos that F2F offers or equivalent Tina?
Used Coursesites to deliver resources, content, tasks, and host discussion board.
A4 My PLN provides a wealth of resources
A4 My PLN has inspired me to climb new heights, try new things, and collaborate on cool projects!
f tof is the best way to build relationships
A3) I usually ask schools 2 bring me 2 campus for PD. I am looking 2 venture into webinars, Skyping, & Voxing.
A4: Finding great follows to share with my teachers! Promoting chats with different groups.
Exactly! It also pushes me to continue to get better https://t.co/RA8mTgqaYe
A4: I ❤️ that my network of principals is so diverse. We have different strengths which makes us powerful
Q3: Once again, like a blend. Each has benefits. Fully online depends on what is put into it, put a lot = get a lot
A4: Love resources and new ideas.
A4 Twitter Chats are so meaningful because you have access to great minds and product ideas. I've grown because of it!
That is so so true!! Design is everything
A4: Our is so meaningful and effective because we are able to meet with innovators and passionate educators nationwide.
A4 It’s incredible what their perspective offers to me. I hope my [skewed] perspective offers something for teachers, too.
A3: Masters was completely online. Also I participated in a connected learner initiative to promote technology in the classroom
Love that --- finding out on accident
Got to learn from some of my like ! Awesome!
A3: I have an MLS via online learning Loved the convenience and Convo
A4:The relationships I create w/PLN members is what makes it meaningful! Some of my best friends are PLN members! Learning is a +
Having a PLN that inspires you is very important!
A4: Seeing what other passionate Ts are doing to motivate Ss in learning their best!
I did my masters F2F, post MA courses online and F2F. Now doing Hybrid program Like all diff reasons
Q3: Online can be just as social as F2F, depends on participation
A4: My PLN gives me LIFE! I learn SOOO much from my PLN peeps!
What type of resources are the most helpful to you, Angela?
A3) The one-day make-&-take big shows don't work. PD needs 2 b continuous & ongoing. Looking into Skyping 4 PD
A4: My is meaningful when it offers varied perspectives, which happens when it is diverse.
I'll be glad to tell you more about it!
A4: Twitter PLN is invaluable. So much expertise, but I esp. love the optimism! I like being with others who love what they do.
A4c My fave .. this one, , , , , .. It’s the that makes it meaningful.
You ma'am are a rockstar, I'm just lucky they let me keep showing up:)
I agree. Too often, there is shallow discussion without getting anywhere or real learning.
I have to jump out to complete my interactive read aloud for the week! Thanks everyone-see you next week!
A4 Likemindedness, my push my thinking, encourage&challenge me to take risks. As a librarian, can't make it without my .
A4 I've met so many great new friends & colleagues on Twitter. The camaraderie, mutual support, & collaboration are invaluable!
I think variety is the key...there are great aspects to online, F2F, conference and make & take as long as they fit ur needs
I'm pursuing my Masters online too! So glad to have Voxer to connect with classmates
A4: I have only worked in Aldine. It's nice to get various perspectives and grow. I also use voxer to connect w/ other educators
A4 I gain great insight from my PLN
A4: Connection is key. Plus, my PLN helps me keep things in perspective when crazy time comes at school.
A4) Helps establish professional relationships. Formed a good one w
What could increase the depth and breath of the discussion? https://t.co/DaawQJwuGC
I agree. Too often, there is shallow discussion without getting anywhere or real learning.
goofiness that happens every time I meet someone f-2-f that I've followed or chatted with on Twitter
and learning from it is wonderful.
A3: 2/2 there's so much push for online courses & tech that the value of real human interaction seems lost in shuffle sometimes
A4 My PLN allows me to connect to people I would not have access to otherwise. So many different ideas/perspectives/experiences
A4) Always looking to increase my of . Follow me! Would love to connect.
I second this! https://t.co/Exicktt1cB
A4 I've met so many great new friends & colleagues on Twitter. The camaraderie, mutual support, & collaboration are invaluable!
A4: The fact that quality people actually respond to questions and queries makes a Twitter PLN really meaningful!
LOL! Totally have done that. https://t.co/AB143uxmoW
goofiness that happens every time I meet someone f-2-f that I've followed or chatted with on Twitter
No prob! Glad to have you!
In our online masters we use it helps us communicate and hear their voices!
A4 Keeping me inches from the falling off the cliffs of insanity. Global connections, Inspiring while in the daily muck
A4 connections, feedback, support it holds me accountable, and challenges me to grow
Me too! I got my MS Ed thru Capella U. Going after a PhD [didn’t finish] was wayyyy hard.
People say, "Yes, I do this," but they rarely get out the actual resource/example and start a discussion about it.
A4: Being vulnerable and willing to share your story is a
Good ? & 1 reason I help newbies. But it's also being open 2 peeps outside your areas of expertise & normal focus
A4 it is great to see other educators have some of the same ideas I have and collaborate and make things even better.
Can certainly go that direction if folks aren't challenging each other or asking for more depth
- Goofiness is one reason I like working in a school environment :-)
A4: We would love to grow our with all of you. Please feel free to connect so we can continue to share ideas!
A4: My PLN is meaningful because I am connecting with other educators I would never be able to learn from and with otherwise
is definitely a great tool for communication and .
Twitter chats & following Ts/Educators is like adding MiracleGro with H2O! Watch you grow!
A5: Awesome Q! I hope F2F will still be part of it. Relationship should always be part of learning.
A4: I enjoy when teachers collaborate that have the same goals, apprehensions, and innovative ideas that sharpen each other
A5: In 10 years, I better be able to hologram in to my PD! 😜 Am I right or what?
Best PD has been (1) PLTW training; (2) volunteering for challenge; (3) community ed for stories. I'm motivated by adventure!
A5: Seems like finally the movement towards much more personalized'/ individualized PD is taking off.
A4: Masters was online, but sidebar with and made it meaningful.
A5: Fully personalized. Badges gone wild. On demand learning.
Lot of value of being "locked in a room" with peers for an hour or three. Lots of solid discussion. Think time too.
Q4: Learning through a is powerful because of the PASSIONS of like-minded people participating. Make connections
A5 I dream of a time when PD will always be tailored to learner's need rather than what others think the majority needs.
A5: I think PDs will be student centered (for teachers) taking the same path as classrooms
A5: I hope it will be that my Siri or Cortana will read my Twitter feed while I drive.
A4: My best experience was making a connection with that led to her husband holding a Skype session with my kids!
A5: In 10 years, I better be able to hologram into my PD! 😜 Am I right or what?
A4 The generosity of spirit, empathy, wisdom, & profound dedication to children inspires me. You are all some awesome educators!
A5: Hope to see more & coaching for educators, inc. admin...we all have specific needs, no more one-size-fits-all
A5. OH OH Ten years from now? <-- what a terrific question!
That would be quite an experience!
A5 I guess that depends on us. The tech, research, & ideas are out there. Will we keep doing what we're doing, or take a risk?
A5: I sure hope it looks like Pp learning & working together to make this world a better place :)
Does that mean we'll have to dress for online PD?
A5: whatever it looks like, I hope it's still very much one giving another the nudge they need https://t.co/FIqo8dXPBM
THIS!! Are we willing to innovate and take risks?? https://t.co/SJV6Zyf5Nz
A5 I guess that depends on us. The tech, research, & ideas are out there. Will we keep doing what we're doing, or take a risk?
A5 It would be great to have some PD! can you make that happen...?
A5 If my time warp machine is working tonight, I suspect it will look a lot like how we've done it in the 20th century ....
A5: I definitely think there will be more tech. I also think there will be more T driven PD with the popularity of edcamps.
A5) There needs to be commitment to PD. No one-day make-and-takes. Make it continuous. Revisit.j
A5: Hopefully, it will be more personal. Self-directed would be great, like we want for our students.
A5) I'm predicting more online training and PD. And TX districts sharing their work. How much work are we needlessly reinventing?
A5: ablty to share and work with other schools, sharing great lesson plan ideas and what works & doesn't. But in VR of course.
A5 PD will be personalized. More importantly edus will be trusted to access the PD they need. Sharing learning will be the norm.
with, hopefully, more respect for Twitter and other tools ...
A.2 More opportunities to create versus watch.
I have my kids do that when we are stuck in traffic. https://t.co/mlKeBK8wIN
A5: I hope it will be that my Siri or Cortana will read my Twitter feed while I drive.
Tom Spall, 3rd year ITS from in Brenham, TX. Let's collaborate and learn from each other!
A5) It should become more personalized, individualized, specific to a subject or topic. LED BY STAFF!!!
A5. Ten years from now you can share how you were involved in the beginning years of Twitter for learning.
A5 10 years from now PD is [still] going to involve people connecting with [lots of] other people. How changes. Why stays same.
A5 I think it will be mostly virtual or online PD connecting educators more globally than we do now. https://t.co/3yqitfSBFC
Sorry, got caught up the Cowboys game!
Hi Tom! Good to see you hear! How's Jessica?
A5: in 10 yrs it make look different but making connections is key!
A5 if it to be meaningful, people will still need to interact & build relationships while learning, learning is not independent
A5: Highly developed Real time instant video conferencing access via app
A5: PL focused on Ts as facilitators, rather than info. distributors, & more time for Ts to confer w/each other
A5: similar to what college looks like. from the comfort of home, work or vacation-
A5: Maybe something with VR, so you can interact and apply your training? Also more choice in your growth....I hope 😊
A5: Make the learning what you need it to be Still connecting, building relationships
A5 (joining late): Being able to connect with others so we only have needed PD. No district too small to differentiate.
I think TTESS is a great step in that direction for TX educators. I want to be able to self reflect/direct
A5 I do think Prof Learning will look more like what we want to see in our learning environments with students!
A5 Hopefully, PD will continue to grow more individualized & increasingly global.Who knows what tech will allow us 2do in 10 yrs?
A3. Prefer online PD discussions because I can be a night owl, and go deeper.
A5: Really depends on a lot. However, I think it will much more student led, S's will have more voice in PD for their T's.
A5: Great question! Personalized, customized, flexible, and laser focused to meet exact needs of learner.
A4: being able to share and see so many ideas, and know that there are others who share my passion for making content relevant
Agreed!!! Scroll through Smore Educator Hive and find trainings you've already made (not as well) https://t.co/lzQI4dkxin
A5) I'm predicting more online training and PD. And TX districts sharing their work. How much work are we needlessly reinventing?
A5 relationships trump strategies so I think interaction will still be critical component
A5: PDs Differentiated for the topic.
Completely agree. https://t.co/I0FDJ81ES2
A5 relationships trump strategies so I think interaction will still be critical component
There are pockets of innovation in PD, but, really, the average PD today is the same as the average PD 10 years ago.
A5 No matter what teaching looks like in the future Tt - Ss relationships will still be the most important element
A5 Right now too much of Prof Learning looks more like "sit and get" "say and pray" instead and clock hours instead of transfer
A4. Seeing what kids are succeeding at across the country. Examples of what works.
A5 As long as educational PD focuses on leadership, love, laughter, & learning, it will remain as timeless as it is timely.
May opt for the overboard version since my daughter has been dragging me all over town catching Pokemon lately!
I have and if it is live and allows interaction I love it, - f2f allows more hands on https://t.co/kbgGx5xcgw
Q3: Have you ever participated in fully online PD? Do you prefer online learning or face-to-face? https://t.co/PlqBzvO5IG
Yes! We are even working our badges into TTESS! :)
A5: Expect we'll let go of notion we're in competition & realize survival depends on each person using skills collaboratively
TTESS is going to create a demand for a whole new kind of PD in most districts.
Oh duh, my entire Masters too.
I love that "laser-focus" thought!
Anyone using for PD yet? Love the engagement and prob solving it offers!
A5c Thursday I’m at ’s in Abilene. 10 yrs ago I was @ a $ hotel-based conference. 2026 will be more like former
Huge problem is some districts are still trying the one size fits all method
Hah! Now that's an image I will carry with me ;-)
I would play that game. Sign me up.
A5. Less tied to one's district. More tied to personal interest. Mix of work and play.
A5: On Demand Professional Development. Instant Access. Flipped. Virtual
Great topic tonight at https://t.co/gtO3zg9OK8
A5 PD will be personalized. More importantly edus will be trusted to access the PD they need. Sharing learning will be the norm.
Keep hearing about it but never done. Kinda like lock/puzzles??
A5: Hopefully it will be teacher's choice for development. Global conversations.
Ha! I could put a little tune to that!
LOL! That's become our new date night for my wife and me!
A5x Online PD is okay. But it’s the background noise and fork rustling of networking over breakfast that rocks. That’ll remain.
SO agree...relationships are the foundation of culture...which trumps strategy. One of core beliefs
See - my time machine IS functional ... Hopefully, it's not working in the forward direction. Rapid Change needed
Yes! I did one at w/Region 11...loved it...need to get supplies to try w/Ts this year https://t.co/wLyPqIFPv4
Anyone using for PD yet? Love the engagement and prob solving it offers!
We are utilizing "its learning" in our district. Functions like blackboard. Very cool
Completely agree! How I wish more schools would commit to ongoing PD & coaching than the one day big show
I hope not! Let's make sure that doesn't happen!!
I'm currently working on a plan to help create a more "student centered" learning environment!
A6: The opportunity to tell our story & hear other's. Power in our stories in relationship building & professional respect
Yep! I heard that one and cracked up! Because it's so true!
A6: developing online site that holds live or video of best practice, new ideas, lessons.
A6:voice and choice. PD isn't confined to a dept or campus. Combine resources & get the learners interested in the skill together
A5) Problem w PD is it's TOO EXPENSIVE. Travel, lodging, & conf costs rising while funding for PD is getting cut
Engaging, personal, meaningful for sure!
A6: Ts want tasks, yet choice.
A6a The catch with online PD is how many can talk and interact at the same time? One big one probably not so well..
A6: I like the idea of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style PD. Ts designing PD pathways to align with T-TESS goals. Autonomy.
Agreed. If we're still functioning this way, it means our students are still suffering. We must change.
A6: Make it relevant and purposeful to the REALITIES of Ts classrooms and everyday experiences.
Thanks Jan, I would DEFINITELY not say that, just energized by the escape!
Me either! I have to be actively learning!
A6: More interaction between participants. Allow for choice.
A6: Ts need to be leading PD...our Ts have so much knowledge to share w/ea other...need Ts to seek out PD more...don't wait 4 it
A6: OK I'm going all Star Wars on U & imagine holograms instead of screens so folks can interact tho not in same room
A6: I think online PD fosters autonomy and connection-look at us now! We're here because we want to get better at what we do!
yes! PD will have to be more personalized bc each Ts goal is different
I agree. We need time to process & fit our learning to our class for our students. I find we treat our Ss similarly.
A6: Online PD increases connection to people w/different POVs. Great way to challenge thinking & master skills w/new approaches
A6b More online PD has to allow for as much 1:1 interaction as possible..
A4: My PLN continues to open my eyes to new tech, challenge my thinking, and support me as an educator.
Absolutely! I love this idea Jessica!
So is there data to support increased academic achievement as a result of instructional coaches?
C.O.O.L. Academies Connecting Our Outstanding Learners (district wide)
A6: Make it practical, doable, and provide in-person follow-up with non-evaluative coaching.
A6 Inclusion, authenticity, & encouragement shine through whether online or in person. Keep it positive & productive & I'm in!
A5: I hope it looks more like an Edcamp. Personalized, but still involving F2F interaction with a blend of tech.
A5: Expansions of online learning & chats where Ts can self-select an online or in person next step. Like a
Yes & YES! So much knowledge & expertise that educators can bring to table for themselves & for others! https://t.co/uQHtGxcgAT
A6: Ts need to be leading PD...our Ts have so much knowledge to share w/ea other...need Ts to seek out PD more...don't wait 4 it
More face-to face video like tonight, less “LMSy” and more organic, shorter bite-size learning. https://t.co/SFXNt5ATY1
Q6: Connection, Autonomy, and Mastery are chief intrinsic motivators. How can we introduce more in online PD?… https://t.co/gxU5udlL7a
Agree! In fact it shouldn't.
A6c I don’t think shoe-horning a massive conference experience into an online venue/modality works all that well. Unless..
I think it's great when our Ts get out there and lead PD for their colleagues! https://t.co/nYdJsX3P7e
A6: Ts need to be leading PD...our Ts have so much knowledge to share w/ea other...need Ts to seek out PD more...don't wait 4 it
A6: Important to have an opportunity for participants to chat/message with others. Facilitators can rely on expertise of others.
A6) Topic needs to be active, engaging, & relevant for Ts to participate, buy into, and commit to training
A6: Think about the connections that we could have with technology. All the TX Biology teachers could connect online! Giant PLC!
How about the Holodeck from Star Trek? Awesome idea!
A5: Ts will have PLN communities via VR, curriculum will be highly universal, older Ss will help Ts design best practices
If so, how does that compare with the benefit of smaller classes? Is it enough so coaches/specialists warranted?
A6) I provide PD on my book. Always looking for ways to flip the PD like we flip the classroom
That could be an amazing Voxer group! https://t.co/81d1oAlBN3
A6: Think about the connections that we could have with technology. All the TX Biology teachers could connect online! Giant PLC!
With AR/VR, may not be far off! Right !
Working on it. Just need funding :)
A6. Perhaps turn real school classes into online classes in part. Learning by doing.
RT A6:I think thats the next step to take, Giant PLC!
A6: It helps me when others from my area have joined in and we can keep the conversation going. Accountability
A6) Would Ts read related & required readings for PD prior to training so we can get down to business and work?
HI!, I’m Jared from Utah. I’m SO LATE! This chat happens right as bedtime duties start (reading, HW check, teeth brushing...)
VR PD would be awesome to have recorded examples of classrooms to see upclose
A6) The content should be challenging, not the platform. UI should be easy, mastering the content should require serious thought.
A6: Build a new process that starts with connections, allows for autonomy & wraps up with options to pursue mastery.
Agreed, I enjoy the and unconferencing models
It's part of grad course work but three words: Distinguished Teacher Academy!
So there is the art/science to teaching, what about what is taught? Second part of the equation.
A6: Allow Ts to apply the PD and video tape themselves (or show artifact), then ask for structured feedback specific to PD.
Yes! I have 2 say that VWs give U that experience already. UR THERE with others interacting & engaging. Powerful
I like this! We are also using Fun 5 and I like connecting it all like this.
I think that goes back to their personal buy in and relevance. Why are they there?
A6: Educators will step out and share what they're passionate about in education. It doesn't have to be complicated
A6 As we see more Ts using Google classroom, Blackboard, Edmodo, or similar tool to facilitate paperless classrooms, autonomous,
I was late too. Just dive in and welcome.
Too easy and people simply go through motions. Too difficult and people stop participating.
A6x We adopt a mindset to PD and gather to solve specific problems or identify shared opportunities.
A6: Chunking online equals delivery
I love flipped faculty meetings, BUT not if you are going to read everything you sent.
A6 Ts will make the connection/transfer for their own learning
A6 Research shows that PD is most effective with specific coaching afterwards. I'm not sure how that would work with online PD.
You may not see that tonight in you r making a difference but you are planting seeds. You matter and are… https://t.co/pg2BRSZNM5
A7: EdCamp's give Educators a Voice & Choice in their PD like no other has given them before! Power in owning your own learning!
A6: PD as a playlist rather than a prescription. Options, skip around, mix your own version, add your own.
A7b It’s that grab-bag sort of experience where a little personal investment might yield outsized results. Or not. It’s ‘Vegas PD
You sound like John Hattie. There is a learning sweet spot for each person.
A6. What if part of a class was a national online class discussion?
Relevant & practical. Adult learners ❤️ both. https://t.co/Mf9DeiRq8c
A6x We adopt a mindset to PD and gather to solve specific problems or identify shared opportunities.
Maybe this is the answer to my question about monitoring and coaching for implementation.
A7 Voice and Choice! The smartest person in the room is the room! https://t.co/4mOycHHVQ9
Q7: Since the original EdCamp in 2010 there have been over 700 EdCamps in 25 countries. Why are EdCamps so popular?… https://t.co/a82pQ3LWuz
A6 time? Time to forge without being on stage all the time? Shows have rehearsal, Docs don't operate all day every day
A7 EC's meet a need. Attendees own their learning. sxsw does a good job expanding in that by letting ppl vote on sessions prior.
A7: EdCamps are popular b/c they allow 4 teacher voice & choice. Just like Ss needs vary so do Ts, and EdCamps cater to this.
A7. Never been to one - ....... yet
You mean present? No. That's like reading the slides. Ugh!
Q7: popular because they provide choice, opportunities for different levels of participation, expertise not required
A7: Choice, relevance, differentiation, networking, I could go on, and on.
A7: IMHO educators truly know what they need to work on to improve/innovate their practice, edcamps offer this "self-serve" PD
A7: Edcamps are so popular because you can choose what you want to learn, get up & leave if it's not what you need, & collaborate
A7 - Haven't been to one.I hear they're awesome b/c their driven by the people who attend and their passion/innovation/drive.
Here's the link to my zombie themed PD...definitely was an interesting way to cover material! https://t.co/Bn0l5Dqwar
Combine online PD with an in district/ in school contact? Connect global learning with specific school needs?
here's an idea https://t.co/IDALxttVyY
A6: Allow Ts to apply the PD and video tape themselves (or show artifact), then ask for structured feedback specific to PD.
A7: For me, it’s the choice and voice in what is presented and what I attend. PLUS, they are collaborative and OPEN!
Q7: Also, less pressure to be expert & more knowledge sharing
A7: EdCamps provide what we all crave...choice and voice
A7: You are in charge of your learning
A7: edcamps are personalized, FREE, and an environment where you are encouraged to share experiences. Plus, prizes help!💃🏻
A7 Love EdCamps to tap into my peers' expertise. Get/share ideas, rethink them to fit my space.
A7: edcamps allow choice for Ts, & draw on expertise from multiple voices. They're a chance to have authentic conv. abt learning
A7: No edcamps are the same. They are innovative, current, and fit the needs of the teacher, admin, and staff
A7 Edcamps are so popular because they give teachers choice in their learning and empowers them w/ power of two feet!
A7 They are popular because teachers like to choose what they learn about.
A7: Edcamps epitomize crowd sourced learning. Organic and powerful.
If we know the effectiveness of Edcamps, why don't more districts trust the process and use this learning style of PD?
True! But they are so innovative that traditional institutions seem to fear them. We need to normalize PD 2.0
Deep down Ts KNOW other Ts=the ones who really understand, appreciate & can solve edu's probs given the chance
A7 Listening 2 Ts in the trenches, brainstorming, sharing ideas is practical. Listening 2 some1 removed from classroom, not so much.
A6: I make an effort to incorporate teacher CHOICE into my PD sessions.
Choose Your Own Adventure
https://t.co/YZAgr3JODw
Thanks! saw this, too, and thought about the connection.
A8: The more we learn, the more we share with Ss...when's the last time you implemented something from a boring PD?
A8: Bring the same kind of learning to our Ss! Choice, voice, relevance works for kids, too!
Could we make more PD that feels like that in our ISD's?
A7: Choice! We know what we need. If the pd isn't what we thought, then the freedom to choose something else to max time.
I think as time moves forward, more districts will jump on to this style https://t.co/1IzWVK9EvA
If we know the effectiveness of Edcamps, why don't more districts trust the process and use this learning style of PD?
Absolutely the FREE and Prizes help!
Option to exit if its not the session for u is respectful of our time and needs. https://t.co/YlGm4wvNYN
A7: EdCamps provide what we all crave...choice and voice
Great ideas! This limits teacher choice, but has potential to create a culture of coaching in the school.
A3 Yes online PD is great. I can work at my own pace and go back to review.
A8: Connected educators are exposed to more ideas, more resources which results in more innovation in lesson design 4 SS
That's hilarious!! Keep being creative!
Exactly what appeals to me, I don't have to sit through something I know & can seek to improve in areas I need
LOL, that happened. Sad but true.
Checking in late... A7 - Ed Camps are popular for two reasons: Voice and Choice!! ALL learners desire this!
A7-variety flexibility freedom hands on interactive
And Edcamps are filled w people who WANT to learn. That’s a huge part of the atmosphere I think. Gotta spread that.
A8: leaves t chance to take what is relevant to them and their ss to class instead of sometimes sitting thru useless info.
A7 Not sure ... :) I think we need to step it up. Need deeper material for those who can handle it lighter for those who can't
A7x Hotel conference PD draws 100s-1000s. I might meet 100 & remember <10. makes for more quality meet-ups. Less is more.
Would love to hear more about this. I've been redesigning my own course for more student centeredness.
A7 it is all about choice
Absolutely! There's something to be said about being in a room full of folks that WANT to learn!
A8) If provided through webinars or online chats, Ts can bring it back to the classroom reflect on their own
A1 Panel style PD that is Q &A. The discussion allows for so much deeper take aways
Monica, Special Education teacher, Texas. Just following along with the wonderful tonight. :)
Don't forget to talk to book publishers like for books. They donated to ours.
I sure could! Hoping to host an EdCamp this year! Hopefully, admin will join in to see what it is all about.
A7 College Station ISD did edcamp for back2school and I heard amazing learning, energy, & inspiration came from it.
I agree - being connected opens your world to so many more ideas/perspectives https://t.co/WdJPDcx8H8
A8: Connected educators are exposed to more ideas, more resources which results in more innovation in lesson design 4 SS
Still in the planning phase but maybe we can follow up when its more fleshed out!
A7: Edcamps are so popular because of the choice. Participants have the opportunity to participate in what will benefit them.
Are you in Texas Stephanie?
A6 Video chats provide connection/ autonomy can be through pace & mastery through rubric completion https://t.co/djIqC5E75c
Q6: Connection, Autonomy, and Mastery are chief intrinsic motivators. How can we introduce more in online PD?… https://t.co/gxU5udlL7a
A8 Change. It gives us a reason to change AND the realization that change is survivable and doesn’t have to hurt.
Yes! That is HUGE! You can't bribe/coerce someone into an edcamp.
A8: Teachers are encouraged to be innovative, risk takers, and create meaningful learning experiences for students
It does. But schools also need training that's relevant to them too. Don't need 1001 options. :)
I think anything that makes class more about creating than consuming is a step toward classroom 2.0. https://t.co/ZGws7Pme3A
The popularity & importance of EdCamp is due to the freedom they provide for Ts to learn and the respect it affords Ts
We are doing personalized learning for Ss, it is needed for Ts also.
I like the EdCamp model. That being said, what room is there for PD on observed rather than selected needs?
A8: Opportunity to change.
A8: I think PD 2.0 will give teachers confidence to step outside of comfort zone more often and try new things
yes --- so many new things :-)
Great chat tonight ! Thx for volunteering your time and hosting !
And everyone is a learner!
Great chat Always enjoy chatting and helping 2 change the face of PD
A8: PD2.0 involves a mindshift which creates a shift in the learning environment. It creates a culture of learners, not teachers.
A8 students need the same revolutionary learning that educators crave.
Thank you and tonight for learning and growing with us! Please feel free to connect!
A3 PD 2.0 is about transfer, application, and consistent practice! I do think it involves more teacher facilitation too!
A9: Mandated, sit&get that requires a lot of work with little reward.
A9: When you aren't learning anything new. Being lectured at instead of collaborating.
A8x PD 2.0 has the potential to short-circuit change process so we skip the negativity. That.
A9 - PD that is required and repeated EVERY YEAR...with out change or update
I do NOT believe this, my Ss aren't at the same place, I need to teach Ss where they are.
Have different options for people to meet own needs? I don't need GAFE training 3 times every year.
A9: Pd that wasn't well thought out, or the facilitators received the info 30 min before the presentation. Timing.
A9: sit and get; shotgun approach; one-size fits all PD... Ugh! How to make that better? Easy, don't do it.
A9: PD that has no follow-up, does not feel relevant to Ts.
A9 - Reading from PPT - Make it more interactive, incorporate discussion...even if it "covers less", it will make more impact
A8: Most of us know what they need and want help to become better. This will result in improved instruction.
YES!!!! https://t.co/8k6GmXrcsX
A9 - Reading from PPT - Make it more interactive, incorporate discussion...even if it "covers less", it will make more impact
Well stated Shawna! https://t.co/4XJftrQfLw
A8: PD2.0 involves a mindshift which creates a shift in the learning environment. It creates a culture of learners, not teachers.
A9: No opportunity for conversation.
A9: Bad PD = Being read to from a Powerpoint for more than 20+ minutes on something you already know or are doing
We r on this marvelous journey that involves our passion for learning. 's questions tonight have been ou… https://t.co/XQ4Aism6Vm
A9a Make it possible for me to own it [or my share of it]. It’s anther reason have so much promise..
A9 When it's completely irrelevant to one's job! Lib, PE, Art don't need to know about all classTs PD/strategies
Or something I could have googled and figured out in 3 minutes...
A9: When you leave a PD and have no idea how to use it. Must set a goal and implementation plan to use what you learned
A9: BAD: When your admin recognizes another district for their innovation, but failed to see you had already been doing that.
Great tonight! Really expanded my thinking!!!
A8: PD 2.0 should provide new avenues for learning, so Ts can follow S interests/needs & pursue their own development, as well.
A9: Bad PD?! Let me count the ways. Sit & get yawn fests. PD with no application or feedback. Know-it-all trainers.
Yes, I get that. What about the T who needs Guided Math but always chooses to go to writing because they like it?
thanks for facilitating & taking us a step closer to more effective PD!
A9 - why not use Nepris to connect virtually during PD with professionals that will make learning relevant for edus and Stus?
A9 Irrelevant content presented using PPTs I can read in a boring fashion.
A9 When it is not focused, targeted, and purposeful.
A9.2 Improve by thinking of content-area & not just making them sit thru bc admin doesn't know what else to give them.
I like when PD incorporates making a plan to put it into action...I leave ready to implement
Someone needs to step in and direct that T elsewhere.
A9: BAD: When your district brings someone in to teach a topic that someone in your district already presents on at conferences.
A9x More people talking more of the time. 1 to many nonono. Many to many. Yesss!
A9 no new learning, repetitive, lecture, no interaction
That was amazing guys! Thanks for inviting me Have a great week at school everybody!!
A8 PD 2.0 impacts classrooms by raising ts awareness, removing walls, & opening possibilities https://t.co/CYdWdfqSJI
