A1 Reflection allows our students to pause and think about the WHY. It helps them think about what they're understanding and what their next steps might be. Student reflection also helps the T see depth of understanding and misconceptions. #MTedchat

  • JoseyAnn406 Jan 22 @ 10:10 PM EST
A1: Reflection in the classroom gives students the opportunity to grow and understand their thinking process. I also believe that it also helps to master content with deeper meaning. #MTedchat
  • rachelmarker Jan 22 @ 10:10 PM EST

A1 reflection is a life skill. If I’m attempting a new skill or trying to fix something around the house I need to be able to reflect & see what went wrong or what went well & what I can change. I also think it’s good to reflect on relationships as a social skill too #MTedchat
  • MsSpartacus406 Jan 22 @ 10:10 PM EST
A1 Reflection gives Ss the chance to think about what they learned & why it matters. It allows them to make more connections, too. Also gives Ts the opportunity to check understanding/msconceptions/etc #MTedchat

  • AmandaRapstad Jan 22 @ 10:12 PM EST
A1 I also think reflection helps students take ownership in the learning process. #mtedchat
  • cristama - Moderator Jan 22 @ 10:12 PM EST

For example when students have a conflict or one hurts another’s feelings etc I’ll ask what can you do to make your relationship right instead of just having them apologize. When they make a poor choice I’ll ask them what that would do differently next time. #mtedchat

Ss need to hear all sorts of feedback from teachers and peers, this is a life skill, then they need to use it to improve themselves. Think how much we do this daily as educators #MTedchat
  • rachelmarker Jan 22 @ 10:23 PM EST
Last year, my daughter's Gr4 teacher had the kids do a *daily* reflection in a Google Form. It was a great way to gather quick reflections about academics, SEL, etc. They rated their behavior and how on-task they were in class. #MTedchat

A5: From my time as a teacher, I still love a strong website with a blog (GSuite). Our school site also has Facebook & Instagram. All can be used to connect out to community. Class blogs are great for coaching dialogue. Love @seesaw and @flipgrid #mtedchat

Q5: What are your favorite digital tools for sharing student learning and connecting with families? #MTedchat
  • rachelmarker Jan 22 @ 10:40 PM EST
Your last point: reflection & feedback give Ss voice in their learning journey. We must listen and honor them. This means making changes to our instruction to meet them where they are! #MTedchat
    • MollyHuberPro Jan 22 @ 10:38 PM EST
A3 Feedback is a powerful tool for a teacher! It helps them understand who understands as well as gives the teacher an idea of how they can improve their lesson. It is important for the students to have a voice in their education. The teacher needs to be open to change! #MTedchat

I'm using IG more and more. Twitter is mostly for my professional growth and collaborating with my amazing PLN. But for connecting with families and telling our story to a wider audience, we have to go where *they* are: Instagram & Facebook mostly. #MTedchat

A5 In addition to @seesaw, I am also a big fan of student blogging. When I go back to the classroom, this is something I will definitely explore. And what a powerful way to give Ss an authentic writing audience! #MTedchat

This is spot on. And again I think it’s the same with our relationships. I tell my Ss if I ever hurt their feelings or they don’t like how I’ve handled something in our relationship that they can & should tell me. If we’re going to give them voice it needs to be all around

A6: I'm always trying to find ways to build reflection time into daily practice at school. Most staff meetings (weekly) we begin w/a 'high & low' activity where everyone writes a current challenge & current success. Small bit of time, but leads to constructive talk. #mtedchat

A6: try to write in my gratitude journal daily but like everyone else - the day flies by, I’m exhausted, and I’m proud to be in bed by 10 (if and when that happens). Need to make time for it - and to celebrate the positives! #MTedchat

I started my fifth graders (and first the year I taught that level) with a photo blog. It was a great way to introduce reaching an audience. They could then learn to comment on one another's photos (less threatening, typically, then writing). #mtedchat
