This twitter chat stands for "Wins And Losses Ed Chat" and will be a chat where students reflect on the previous week to celebrate victories and reflect on losses to turn them into victories.
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and tag someone who you'd like to see join you here tonight! #waledchat

A1: Working in an environment where the learning is completely student-centered and student-driven. Life changing experience; very thankful for the opportunity. #waledchat
A1:
I tried @Seesaw this year--actually THIS semester. My dlc, @sbrooks2587 made me! Hahaha! Actually she coached a couple of colleagues and they liked it, so we collaborated a bit, and I decided to try it.
#waledchat
A1: I tried to use the new features on @padlet as a way to video/voice capture formative feedback. A free flipgrid. It was awesomely successful. #waledchat
A1 Something new I tried this year was @MetaverseApp. I would say seeing folks sharing here made me curious. I loved the idea of AR scavenger hunts and mixed reality assessments. I mean wouldn't that interest you? #waledchathttps://t.co/gZNy3nW5hu
A1: Presenting at conferences - and @_on11 made me do it! It's been a very challenging yet rewarding experience that is helping boost my confidence - finally feeling like I actually have something to offer other Ts. #waledchat
While I am connected on Twitter and have an amazing PLN, the job search still causes stress. I want to find a school where I can truly share my passion with others and feel supported as a new teacher. Words of encouragement would be appreciated. #waledchat
A1 I intentionally taught specific skills and gave names to them so students can name their learning. I did this because my classroom is my learning lab. #waledchat
A1: Introducing new tech like @Flipgrid, @Desmos, and even just utilizing Google Apps for Math.Over last summer, @_on11 really motivated me.. he never seemed afraid to try new things! I've been growing into that mindset ever since #waledchat
A1: I have tried to be more visible to the staffs I work with. I am divided between three schools supporting the technology. It is hard at times, but rewarding when a teacher has the ability to do something fantastic with technology in their classroom. #waledchat
A1: Voxer. We did a Voxer Book Study. Absolutely Incredible! It grew into an ongoing PLN! Such amazing daily conversation with #4ocf Voxer group. #waledChat
A1: I tried @tinkercad for the diet time this year for a mosque building project. Was inspired by my colleague @jesseconant who used it for Greek architecture #waledchat
A1: #hyperdocs! I'm addicted! They are a so much more engaging version of my inquiry based classes! Jumped in off the high dive and an figuring it out on the way down! So far the student feedback had been overwhelmingly positive #waledchat
A1 A couple of things...1 is argument driven inquiry. I started it after our science dept sent us to a week long pd. My students loved being able to set up their own experiments and then arguing their conclusions. #waledchat
A1 One of my totally new things this year was Bloxel Builders, I tried it to get through to a challenging student. Whole class loved it though and we continue our journey into learning with Bloxels #waledchat
A1: @flipgrid was my someything new. My 3rd graders love my and want to do their replys to everything on it. They arefindimg their voice and a new way too show their understanding. #waledchat

I just started using @Seesaw this fall! I loved that it is kid friendly and can allow me to give verbal directions on a project and hear my students' thinking. Gaining 1:1 Chromebooks in October helped persuade me it could work! #waledchat
A1: https://t.co/c09CgU5SGb. So many Ss playing io games these days. I wanted an open format to have them create content related worlds. Still too early to tell. #waledchat
A1 I just recently started using @mstranslator. I started using it because of the need for communication with my non-English speaking students and for the students to be able to communicate with each other.
#waledchat
A1 Tried some new edtech tools this year. Love @goformative and @PearDeck
Felt like I needed to get some more formative assessment into my lessons. #waledchat
A1: I tried @nearpod this year and got to share it with my math PLC yesterday. It was intimidating due to being a student teacher and explaning this tech to veteran teachers, but one teacher said "I was impressed that you were willing to step out and do that" #waledchat
A1: This year I tried using pens instead of pencils in my class in order to value mistakes, we shouldn't erase them. Students who erase mistakes make the same mistakes instead of learning from them. #waledchat
That sounds awesome! It makes my heart happy that you listened to the needs of your students, reached out to one that needed more love and attention and now you've built more of a sense of community in class! #waledchat
A2: It has forever altered the way I will teach. It has ignited a spark in my teaching. I am now willing to try anything new that can help my students express what they know! #waledchat
A2:
It slowed me down. With 50 minutes for only a semester, slowing down to teach tech drives me insane! It made me have to speed up the meat of our time. The fun stuff. It kept us tied to chairs and screens instead of being up and moving. #waledchat
A2 It made me think about the why. Knowing what I know about brain research tells me that learning sticks when there is movement, novelty and humor. @MetaverseApp brought it through #ARinEdu. #waledchat
A2: Using tech helped me create lessons that were engaging.. I always think of @burgessdave & think "could I sell tickets to this lesson?" Ss are mock online shopping right now.. & they couldn't believe I let them choose their own store to "shop" at & find discount/tax #waledchat
A1 I added @Seesaw this year as a way to connect with families. But it has done so much more. My students have a real โvoiceโ. They reflect on their posts and edit what they submit #waledchat
A1: Working in an environment where the learning is completely student-centered and student-driven. Life changing experience; very thankful for the opportunity. #waledchat
A2: It took me off center stage, and constantly feeling like I needed to have an answer at all times. As someone that lacks self-confidence, I am thankful that I can push the kids to untangle their own knots. #waledchat
A2: Being able to connect with so many great minds, across the country, at any time to converse, challenge, and ask for help via Voxer. Has been incredible #waledChat
A2: By attending conferences, I'm learning so much more to bring back to my kids. By presenting, I'm (hopefully!) modeling that it's okay to take risks & step out of your comfort zone. Always sharing my fears, mistakes and successes with them. #waledchat
A2:I feel the shift to getting more teacher input before presenting and working with them has increased ownership, engagement, and interest.
#waledchat
A2: It really hasn't since I'm not directly teaching students, but it has allowed me to build some great rapport and trust with the staffs in all three schools. #waledchat
A2 I have been able to provide more feedback to Ss quickly and I get to see more of what they know. I have started doing my lab questions more digitally. #waledchat
A2: I feel it has pushed me to be more innovative and creative - I'm taking risks and venturing out of my comfort zone. At first this was a bit rough, but things are getting better as I focus on the positive #waledchat
I don't use pens but I have been known to take erasers off and not give big ones so mistakes are visible. Some of my kiddos really hate leaving their mistakes. #waledchat
A2: it forced me to deliver a topic completely different than yrs past. Helped me get better at Googlo Slides for student note eking in process. Double whammy! #waledchat
A2: Using pens, I learned things about my students I might never know through their journal writing. Also, we learn to value mistakes. We've talked about growth mindset and that it's OK to make mistakes. #waledchat
A1: Although I joined Twitter some time ago, this is the first year that I have really started using it. A coworker and my admin suggested using it for pd, and now I am hooked. #waledchat
Again, you need to talk with @mdeegan122. Had an awesome convo today about modeling risk taking for our Ss. We are who they want to be someday. #waledchat
A2 - @Seesaw improves my teaching because I can use it to assess my students' knowledge as an exit ticket. Recently, I have been using it to record extra practice lessons and design enrichment activities. It also motivates students who would rather type than write. #waledchat
Iโm very limited, but theyโre allowed to sit and move wherever they please. I have a rolly chair, circle table and theyโre more than welcome to sit anywhere or lay on the floor. #waledchat
A2 The S were very engaged designing background, characters and story lines in Bloxels to retell the story. They've learned how to design their own video games sharing their learning #waledchat
A2 I am more deliberate in planning how to integrate tech. Not just use the preboxed programs for ELA and Math. We have appsmashed and are thinking about our audience. Students are providing feedback and parents can interact in real time #waledchat
A2 It helped me give more control to my students and have faith that they will learn without only hearing it from me. LOL Teacher control issues #waledchat
A3: Talking about finding different ways to assess student progress in the Lab. Ss are unhappy with using Slides to reflect on their engagements. Trying to find alternatives as we chat. #waledchat
A3.1:
1/2 of what I talk about may be gibberish to most of you, but since I began teaching drama, I began from the "ground up"--movement, voice, writing, acting, etc. I've grown my program that way. It's like a workshop every day. Now I question. #waledchat
A3: I am constantly rethinking ways to have my students take notes. I currently have them do fill-in-the-blank on paper, but am wrestling with an electronic option. Anyone have any thoughts? #waledchat
A3 I really haven't thought of letting anything specific go before tonight. I'd love to see what others have to say here. Maybe it will spark an idea for me to let something go. After all, that is the power of #waledchat and learning with all of you.
A2: It was empowering to something I previously feared (Twitterchat) I also think using Smore has helped made newsletters more fun and engaging for staff. #waledchat
A3 Many years ago, I made a promise to myself that I will get rid of something that isn't as effect as it could be-immediately. This is already my process. #waledchat
A3: Really want to let go of the physical interactive notebooks in science. Need to find an effective way to make them digital without losing the purpose. #waledchat
A3 I am in flux right now as we transition from the old standards to the new ones. Trying to plan new activities is hard when I don't have the time to do it, and still have to teach the old curriculum. Doing my best #waledchat
A3 I still find myself asking my students to speak only in English although I know that the Ss need to and have a right to be able to express themselves. Old habits die hard but Iโm constantly working on it.
#waledchat
A1 - Thanks to my amazing PLN on Twitter. I learned about the #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay. It has become one of my most favorite parts of the day bc I connect with Ss and parents with whom I donโt always get to speak. Just look at this face! ๐ #waledchat
A3: I've been holding onto control for a long time and have decided to let go much more and do things like co-present and work alongside a committee.
#waledchat#CCPSInnovation
A3: Having been out of the classroom full-time for over 4 years, I can't say for sure. I've seen a lot of awesome things in that time that I want to use, so maybe everything will be thrown out the windows if I make it back in again. #waledchat
A2: I now have an extensive pln filled with creative, innovative educators who I learn from daily. Their expertise and support is then passed on to my students. I have also started using Twitter in class, and the students are enjoying it. #waledchat
A3...Hmmm I don't know that I can say a thing, but I will say that I am constantly trying new things and now I would like to make my class much more student centered. #waledchat
A3: Worksheets. Not altogether, of course! However with the use of Seesaw, I am able to implement a lot of exit tickets and practice work through the computer. It saves paper and forces me to better analyze the purpose of the activity. #waledchat
A3: Really want to avoid offering sit & get PD - Sometimes it may be necessary, but always want it more interactive. Trying to eliminate them all together. #waledChat
A3: I was holding onto homework, I had wheedled it down to one project a month, but am going to let it go. Tomorrow's newsletter will tell parents to hike, bike, read or play games with their child instead. #waledchat
A3: I would love to let go of pre-made, fill-in maps - I don't see much value in them. I have switched to annotated handmade maps or Google MyMaps #waledchat
Q4: Not all old is bad and not all good is new. What are factors that go into whether or not you decide to try something new or let go of something old?
#waledchat
A3: I have been holding on to perfectionism, and although I read @TeacherMyth, I need to realize that I am a student teacher. It is okay for me to ask for help. and I am at the initial stage. It will take years for me to hone my craft. #waledchat
A3: wanting to give classroom Ts a way to ditch paoer pencil test and allow those Ss who need it to do recordings of answers that Ts can review later. Win for Ts and Ss.#waledchat
A4 I sometimes hold onto the old and let go of the new. That's part of the process. Reflection helps make things more clear. I decide what I try and what I let go of based on my instincts shaped through experience & based on the positive and potential it brings. #waledchat
A4: I'm constantly thinking about if this will help students. Some tools work for some students and not for others. It also depends on the type of environment established in the classroom. Some "old" things I do I know will leave a long, positive legacy! #waledchat
A4:
First--my students and their needs (emotional, academic, artistic, etc.). Second, my needs. I cannot stand teaching the same thing, the same way over and over. I keep assessments, lessons that were great, reflections, etc. It's never the same. #waledchat
Q4: Not all old is bad and not all good is new. What are factors that go into whether or not you decide to try something new or let go of something old?
#waledchat
A3: Having parent involvement always take place after school and special events, trying to make this happen more during the day to meaningfully engage families.
#waledchat
A4b I must say that I cannot hold onto too much old for too long. I like to keep things fresh by changing things up often. That often means more work on my end but it also usually means more reward, at least in my experiences. #waledchat
A4: I like to see how others are using tools and strategies to gauge how well I think it will work for me and the students. I'm a huge observer. For example, I didn't get @Flipgrid at first, but now I have #FlipgridFever and use it for my podcast. #waledchat
A4: In the world of tech, it is hard to not jump straight to the new and shiny. The key is to evaluate objectively for the best tool regardless of age and shine.
#waledchat
A4: I am innovative and am always looking for ways to better reach my students, but doing too much can be overwhelming. I am trying to get classroom management down first. and I noticed that teacher directed learning is easier to manage. Time is a big factor. #waledchat
I would encourage everyone to build as many community partnerships as possible. Itโs completely transformed my Ss networks, perspectives, and collaboration. And it was awesome for my network, perspective and collab potential as well. #waledchat
Don't have to be a high diver! Toes in one at a time works because it's what works for you!! You don't want to drown and it's important you know what works for you. The most important thing is you started! #waledchat
A3 I changed grade levels this year, I feel like I gave up everything. Being a grade 2 teacher was who I was. I loved my content. โค๏ธ to add to it/ change it for my Ss. I have no real attachment to 1st yet. I donโt think I can give up anything else right now #waledchat
Q2 - We get call Ss to the office to highlight those who are consistently displaying positive behaviors which is a flip from the norm- bc, lets face it, they donโt usually get the attention they deserve. #waledchat
A4: # 1 question = did my students demonstrate new understanding or solidify their learning? If not it had to go and if yes it stays! Thank god for post it notes - they litter my plan ok for reminders throughout following year #waledchat
A4: Feedback. Always have to have your finger on the pulse of the room. If Ss are not engaging with what you are doing, we need to find another way. Just because it works for you, or because you love it, is not reason enough to keep it in place. #waledchat
Q4: Not all old is bad and not all good is new. What are factors that go into whether or not you decide to try something new or let go of something old?
#waledchat
If it is not meaningful or gets the kids engaged then I let the activity go. Teachers have to get buy in from the kids in order to keep learning exciting. #waledchat

#waledchat

A5: @mrpstrunk. Hands down. He is the "fire" in the game of education. Master innovator, always analyzing, trying to make the product even better than the day before. When I grow up...I want to be just like him. #waledchat
A5 To figure out what is best for students, I look to the students. I never used to look to them because I thought I had the answers, or another teacher did. They can teach us. I will also look to those I consider mentors. They usually steer me in the right direction. #waledchat
A5:
I talk to the students. I also talk to their other Ts, and I include parents. From there, I use our dlc, literacy coach, other drama teachers in my district, and the DTA through @theatrefolk. Otherwise, it's lonely being the only teacher of my content at my school. #waledchat
Great question!! I always try to let my โwhyโ drive my choices...if the โoldโ and something โnewโ aligns with my Why then Iโll go in that direction. Also, no judgement helps! #waledchat
A4: Does it help students understand the content or skill being taught? Does it teach students to problem solve? Is it engaging? Would I be proud if another educator got to see it in action? #waledchat
Q4: Not all old is bad and not all good is new. What are factors that go into whether or not you decide to try something new or let go of something old?
#waledchat
A5 One person is @ErikaChacra She's creative, always has the best interest of our children, and will go out of her way to help in any way she can. #waledchat
A5: I immediately go to my #PLN. I have a huge community of educators that I respect and enjoy hearing their #WinsAndLosses from. It helps me to gauge everything and put it all in perspective. #waledchat
A5: @mrpstrunk. Hands down. He is the "fire" in the game of education. Master innovator, always analyzing, trying to make the product even better than the day before. When I grow up...I want to be just like him. #waledchat
A5: I look up to @megan_hacholski and @_on11. They are incredible teachers with such a passion for their profession. I had a professor tell me that he wished more students took the profession as seriously as I do, but these teachers are who I strive to be like. #waledchat
A3 - Ooo - great question! I want to let go of parent-teacher conferences & IEP mtgs that are solely teacher-led. We need to let the Ss play an active role in these mtgs since we are making life-changing decisions about their present & future. #waledchat
A5b: I look to both #PLN's to continue growth and learning. A collection of amazing minds and expertise is incredibly helpful to see things differently and innovate!
#waledchat
A5: I love #leadupchat and #leadLAP. Now I will need to add #waledchat. I turn to the amazing teacher next door to help me figure out what's best for kids. She's a 20 year veteran and still on the cutting edge. I am lucky to teach with someone like her. #waledchat
My grade level partner in crime, @DyannRice is my # 1 sounding board. We are constantly bouncing ideas off each other. She helps make me a better teacher and I'm lucky to have her friendship ๐ #waledchat
