Hi I will be in and out of the chat tonight very interested tonight's topic
Hi Kevin, great to have the UK perspective!
How's the baking going? LOL
Looking forward to this one, hi Ken from Sydney, Chinese and Japanese language teacher
Hiya going to try and juggle tonight -family arriving home for dinner
Evening all. Joel here, Flipped learning enthusiast. Looking forward to a fantastic chat.
Hi Kendall, great to have the language angle!
Hi, Amy from Queensland. Looking forward to the chat!
Kia ora from central Auckland NZ.
you realise I'm toggling for you Stu!
Hi everyone & how's it going?
Great to have you on deck moderating tonight Joel!
Good morning/evening from the UK. I will dip in when I can, Stuart. Simon, Primary Head Teacher, NE England
Thanks! Hey, we've trended ahead of them most nights!
I made it - I'm Flipping' stocked my kids may not let me stay for the full cast though - I may be in and out.
Hi Dean, boy EdutechAU seems a lifetime ago!
Yes representing South Taranaki/Kapuni - present here for
Life goes one and welcome!
Hi everyone in ! A very interesting topic which I know little about. So here to learn!
Great to have you on deck Sir!
Where's she likes a flipped classroom
Same here, I'm a learner tonight, that's for sure!
Hi Jo, thanks as always for your contributions!
Making class time more active with deeper learning opportunities for Ss
I'm attempting the flipped classroom for the first time this coming term!
Wow! Welcome Nico, thanks for the support!
A1: get the facts at home & apply them in the classroom
A1. When classroom interaction is support ed or encouraged by and in the online space
students review material online, video or digital formats before lessons - lessons extend, invstigate inquire
Share away, we're all learning hearing here!
Share away, we're all learning hearing here!
A1 Definitely a learner here too but for me a flipped classroom means doing things differently - making it student led & fun
Thanks and no but after the I will have a look. Kev
Great to have your contributions tonight Tony, always valued!
Hi everyone! A1-Learning happens before 'teaching' happens
A1. Giving control of direct instruction to the individual, so that group time can be spent on deeper learning.
I'm not at a GAFE school but I think I'm going to rely heavily on Google tools
Hi Jacque, must be all star night!
Q1 flipped learning - much of the reading, video watching are done outside classroom personalised T support/leading in c/room
flipped = students do the work at home, teachers guide, prepare mentor - BOTH investigate in class using knowl
A1 - or a question really - have we not always fostered using using what you know to learn what you don't?
Hi folks, Alex in Central QLD. Prepping for my first Flipped class next term. 8 videos in.
A1 Learning takes place in the classroom over teaching?
Great start! Welcome Alex.
A1 I wrote a blog last week on the 20/80 rule for me 'flipped' means more 80 days and less 20 days when it comes to learning.
Does the video part have to happen at home for it to be considered flipped learning?
A1: Data that targets your teaching & Ss learning
A1. Teacher set opportunity for content discovery, then spends class time problem solving the individual journey!
I'm not sure LOL to be honest. IMO the less teaching the better but balance needed?
A1: Ss do top of ice burg stuff at home, below the surface at school
A1 trick is to get kids to do the HOME work ie zaption or quiz or next days inquiry requires prior knowledge from HOME ework
I'm here. Just running late
Great post Ben and welcome!
Great stuff! Fasionably late as well!
A1 - for me it's going to be - students interact with key concepts at home prior to lesson where development will occur
A1 prep at home Ss come to class with Qs and discussion -deep learning happens?
FL is a great tool for differentiation as well
A1: consumption at home, creation at school
Thanks, best learning hour of the week!
A1. I think a definition of "direct instruction at home" is a little too narrow. An In-flip is an excellent way to go too
A1 break videos into small bitesized chunks which require answers to move on to next section of video - monitor who does HW
haha the dog ate by computer so I couldn't do my homework sir
I used in primary sch setting so they watched material in pairs before workshops
Hi A1 Distribute learning theory materials ahead of time - maybe reading or video - more time for prac in class
I am thinking of young ss. I suppose with older it can be in school but before group session
I will start with in-flipping
right, so you had to go to the vet? Is that why you're late?
That's cool, very rare in HS IMO.
A1 turning the 'traditional' pedagogical approach on its head -effective 4 tchrs and Ss much like laying a foundation 4 lrng
How will you teach your students how to watch your video content for comprehension?
The younger grades I know use in-flips a lot. They basically use the video as a second teacher to team teach with.
Nice question, wonder how much to scaffold or let time fix.
A2 A means to INCREASE interaction and personalized contact time between students and teacher
A1: it leverages the power of tech to empower the learning of Students
A1 Flipped breaks down if teachers dont monitor who ignores HW - so make next days task reliant on HW knowledge - it works
A2 I think it definitely helps in a class with a wide range of abilities
Nice Steph, I like this analogy.
What about if you have students who are so apathetic that they just won't do anything at home and their parents support them?
I think everyone should start with in-flip. Take the time to teach students how to interact with the vid.
Good point Amy. May be less so in a top stream class you think?
A2 - I read up on it and liked it, but honestly, to recapture my own enthusiasm. It waned after years in middle-management
A1 a tool to aid personalization and acceleration
Jumping in late - lost track of time!
A1 a flipped classroom is where ss access content independently through videos etc. Frees the teacher to help instead of talk
Why! Because it allows you to create deeper meaningful learning opps for Ss
Who wants to listen to boring lecture or sit in class & read - can do that at home. Make class for the fun stuff
I never linked team teaching and flipped classes. Thanks for that connection :D
Wow, great q Rachel, students also need to have the access at home or in-school before lesson.
Wow, great q Rachel, students also need to have the access at home or in-school before lesson.
A2 do something that works, diff learning (again) good variety for the Ss and maximise tech options
failure can be a good inentive to some to do teh work - but it can be a bit rugged - bad at first
Was step1 & tchng how to pose questions. I found pair work B4 sessions clarified further
Good point but got to start somewhere.
Q2 more time for deeper exploration of concepts & time to assist Ss working at different paces and levels
true. Still the flipped class makes it more personalised for students
A2: who wouldn't want to pause, rewind and recap learning
I think the prep work makes or breaks the flipping.
A1: Making the most of face-to-face time by being more flexible with how/when kids get the direct instruction
A1 Engaging in meaningful learning outside the traditional classroom confines and times?
A2: in-flipping makes me more accountable. Resources designed for right time feedback. Think well paced video game.
A2 - and for the unit I've chosen to flip (Ethics) there are some meaty concepts that require a great depth of study
by modelling, mentoring showing how to anlyse videos and making them useful short fun student led
also a chance to catch up with Ss who didn't quite 'get it'
Wow! Awesome Sir...you must have had a great breakfast!
Pre-workshop discussion extnd the thinking #
A2: To use time in c/r in higher order thinking activities
A2. It's about giving students Autonomy and a chance for mastery. 2 of the 3 elements that Daniel Pink says create Drive.
A2 Increased engagement. Less teacher talk. Allow ss to have agency. Responsive to sss needs.
A2. Flipping the classroom needs to be engaging, interactive and add value - the goal is to plug Ss into learning!
I think this is where the T can prioritise in the flipped classroom.
A2 Why not? To embrace change, challenge and extend student learning, create new learning opportunities
A2: class time is for problem solving not remembering stuff
I hope my Head of Dpt might make one for students too!
Great answer Jo and welcome! A2
OK got the laptop out - on it!
i agree & teachers make the prep work - BUT sometimes it just reinforces those who do HW already
And tweetdeck too no doubt... II'm way behind!
is when students learn content outside of the classroom and apply it in the room with teacher support
A2 For me it's spending less time teaching, and a lot more time with students learning. I think we confuse the two.
A2: began doing it as music teacher some time ago. Tutorial videos available as per need. Headache, gone.
A2 Xtnd those ready & only workshop what is needed
Thanks Heather, great share!
yes indeed, thanks for giving me my excuse Miss :)
Does enable to prioritise needs more no doubt.
also its important to show gains in learning, comprehension and achievemnt for flipping early on
spend time at the start of the year watching vids as a class. Learning how to learn.
True - and we all learn differently. For me, I would rather pre-read, then use class time to interact.
A2: Differentiation/personalisation is actually attainable with you flip. Get to know each student and where they're at
Could the video approach engage the disengaged in terms of HW?
A2. Real differentiation and real 'time' to work on individual learning journey!
But in formative context only I hope?
A2 Why flip? Mostly to support my teachers with other specialisms
I've never met a lecture I liked. And learning is always in the doing.
I think flipping works cause its new fun digital online and it is reviewable BUT it may wear off with time and be teacher led
When we flip do we flip every class??
Also upped the ante in all senior classes - they are learning far more this year than they did last through
is now trending in New Zealand, ranking 2
such an interesting point - time is often used talking to or at students rather than working with
Quick qu, does anyone have a method of saving tweets instead of just liking them? I can't find them when I go back
Ss are more likely to watch a video than do other homework where they might get stuck
I thinks so due to the human interaction element over a text book.
My pre-service teacher was weirded out. "don't you ever lecture?" She really didn't see it as teaching!
I planned the whole term step by step with 1 video a week. As I started making videos it ended up being 1 a lesson
Some easier than others but I use for all my subjects! The best part is clear communication! https://t.co/tCGBsgXMSC
When we flip do we flip every class??
tagging yourself on retweet? https://t.co/AVhX7Z3XSQ
Quick qu, does anyone have a method of saving tweets instead of just liking them? I can't find them when I go back
A2 related Qn How will you communicate to your students about how Flipped Learning will change their experience at school?
I did but it was because I did one for two weeks and couldn't believe the difference.
Great point Jo, it's about balance, imagine if students had to view 8+ vids a night https://t.co/6rFHm8YX1x
When we flip do we flip every class??
Love the ideas of efficacy and entitlement! # A2
I flip every class for seniors. Until assessment hits that is.
is that too much? How do kids react? Like is that their h/w as such?
Thanks mate but I know I'll just end up tagging myself in all :-) I'm taking screen clips of stuff I want to check
Why would it "wear off" and become teacher led?
A3: I flip reading&writing groups differentiating same texts w different focus for ss ind needs
A2 So learning is prioritised as is differentiation!
A2 So learning is prioritised as is differentiation!
Great answer Sue and welcome!
A3. Best was when I was in OZ for a conference and I was commenting on Ss work while they were in class, freaked them out!
I flip almost every lesson. Every syllabus dot point has their own flipped video for year 11 Bio.
And all Ss can watch a vid and take notes on their own. Other hw they might get stuck
Apologies, trying to juggle tonight.
I haven't done it yet tbh. It's for next term. Introduced it today and they loved the idea though.
Started all senior Religion & Ethics, and Study of Religion classes - great experience so far.
I'm intrigued to hear more primary context flipping. I've done small amounts but would love to hear from others
Nice, reduces content to a context and stimulatory element! A3
Thanks - haven't seen that before
Imagine a lecturer who always speaks at the exact pace you're comfortable with and never waffles on and on.
I use it with staff as part of the personalization of pd process
Does all 'flip' material have to be digital?
Does it work better with older kids?
A3: I tried it with Oral Language with 6 y.o. Emailed parents topics to discuss at home and in class they had to give opinion
Great point. Students need to understand the interactive obligations IMO.
I use to make videos, for homework, class notes for workbook
Needs then to be part of blending learning rather than just pure digital then?
A3. Never have I met a student who didn't love flipped learning. And I ask for their opinion on it a lot!
A3. I encourage Ts to not put the 'boring stuff' online, but throw out the boring stuff altogether.
Students love learning in a different way. Some wanted a script too to help them learn. All good.
That's the essence of IMO- develops agency
A3: Students love it! So much more engaged and taking ownership of their learning
some of my year 11s are resistant... But trying to get it going with them!!
Thanks for this mate, had a quick scan. Looks great. Will check later (I have multiple tabs open now!)
A3 As a student, was sent materials to read & study, followed by 1on1 phone tutorial, led by me. Focus on the bits I needed
no it can be books drawings chats with parents caregivers speech prparation, cue cards anything - to get into learning
Flipped my Year 11 English class, all work pushed out in advance this year, me- facilitator and 1:1 chatter. A3
I like the blending, tech and other teaching and learning strategies all have a place https://t.co/t8facdhdRk
Needs then to be part of blending learning rather than just pure digital then?
I agree and learning speed differences ok.
first step in learning is fun, play, interest hook then challenge questions intrigue inquiry imho
mine too but on my phone so I don't know what my channel is
What do they have to say about it? What could you improve? What would they change? Would they like shorter videos?
A3: you need to teach your Ss how to interact with the flipped content very important
I think has to exist as fit-for-purpose, Eng videos less effective but can still flip!
good point they can replay translate transcribe subtitle big image short cut precis
Excuse the off-topic tweet, but if any of you flippers are interested in Religion and want to host 6pm AEST Weds?
they want me to 'teach them'!! Some want shorter vids, others want longer!! Others want none!! Haha can't win
I have to go 'kids' I am jealous of Ts doing this - Ting my Ss is like pulling teeth sometimes flipping them is just a dream
A3 I've provided Ss flipped learning opps by making & posting Explain Everything videos onto our Showbie class stream
I agree, always hope my Ss leave valuing & enjoying the subject a liuttle more.
I've tried with 8yr who could abstract NZ Curr L2-3. Others needed more material support
has a great Ss feedback function along with analytics and active lesson creation - check it
That's interesting? Who do they think it is in the video?! and who is in class every day?
variety, thats why blending is good https://t.co/Fbrw66v0e5
they want me to 'teach them'!! Some want shorter vids, others want longer!! Others want none!! Haha can't win
Nice share, everyone can revist. I'd use my Classroom stream likewise. A3
because it was fun new interesting - then through elective affinity becomes trad boring - need to challenge to
Have you asked for formal feedback on it? Like a proper end of term form they can fill out?
A3. Totally with this~never mind our experience~rather, how is it received by S's... check out the engagement
Would work for my students last period, enable them to go at their own pace.
A4 Ss not doing it? What happens then?
A3 flipped a staff meeting on Autism Spect Dis. Trs watched video b/4 and in meeting brainstormed qs in grps. Ans on OneNote.
sure have! At the end of every topic, but not specifically on the vids.would love ideas on qs
's 4th question is coming up.
Nice Simon, this is key, it's how the students feel, they're the key stakeholders. A3
Just a thought is not the Open University in UK a great example of flipped learning (1969)?
depends on kids content teachers level range of differentiation chunking try new idea
A4 - answer will be Ss not doing work but as Ts we hold them accountable for this.
as I said, not every lesson has a vide & lessons are usually interactive or collaborative...
A3 google sites2curate the flipped content &give ss free access. SS of lower ability often access harder lessons in own time
A bit off track... Any recommended books?
Sounds great How did it go? https://t.co/4jazVKb4ni
A3: I tried it with Oral Language with 6 y.o. Emailed parents topics to discuss at home and in class they had to give opinion
Nice share and memory! Online courses are probably yesterday's original flips!
Nice share and memory! Online courses are probably yesterday's original flips!
A4 only if you rely only on tech for it to work
I'll send you along my feedback form when I get a chance.
A4 Managing those who do and don't do prep but all turn up to the same class - some are ready, others not.
agreed sorry apologies you are right could be reading a book a play anotes drawing talking chatting - just needs 2 b HW
A4: poorly implemented, Ts not understanding what should happen in class the next day
A4 - to counter 'Ss making excuses' I'm providing all vids on a USB at start of term. We're 1:1. No excuse.
Excellent point and one all Ts probably need to take on board! A4
Excellent point and one all Ts probably need to take on board! A4
that would be awesome. We have our last lesson on Wednesday, so it would be good to do before end of term
A4 Students not having digital access outside of the classroom.

Only disadvantages of in my dept is getting staff to do it! Kids are happy to!
A4. Ss not engaging in it - because they see it as homework so by default flag it and hope it will go away.
A4 Only thing I can think is no access to a device or internet would make it a challenge for continuity
That's what we're here for!
A4 some SS don't have Internet access or device doesn't work, or can't be bothered. Need strats for catch ups. Maybe in-flip!
A3 am flipping learning for teachers so they can continue with professional learning in own time frame and pace .
Would it be possible for a student to never watch a vid but still learn everything in your class How?
LOL. Sad but true...maybe it takes time? A4
I bribe them with coffee!
I need ideas-how do I flip when working @ lowest Maslow level - Ss turning up is an achievement & being fed & clean is good
A4 You cannot do much if Ls have not watched the video you had asked them to view in advance ...
A4. If you are not careful it can hinder relationships with students who are independent learners!
get around this by giving the week's videos to watch as early as possible - means they can watch when possible
A4 - to counter 'I don't have time' all my vids are 2-4 minutes. Ridiculous to say you don't have that.
Q3 unit on systems with a focus on the airline industry included Qantas ads over time - lots of time for discussion in class
Pretty well! But huge difference between ss. Not all parents same level of motivation or time
Great point. Students can access the material anywhere then, doesn't have to be at home!
A4. A fair bit of work up front!
A4 being on camera a T disadvantage 4 me, Ss can't ask questions during direct teaching
A4 disadvantages kids ont do the work, kids get bored, kids dont want to play ball - teachers spend too much t making videos
Lucky to have 1:1 school, students can complete in school if not at home.
Q3 currently taking part in study which includes flipped learning helps with managing busy work/home schedule
A4 if fl is abt catering for diff abilities, if ss don't do the hwk, they can view vids at the start of the next lesson
Great question. I see my lessons as 'delving deeper' so Ss could 'catch up' but catch up it will be
My brother never read his novels and passed no problems
we do a quick revisit of some kind at the beginning of the lesson - mind-maps, diagrams, etc
Side Q: What is this In-flip many of you are discussing?
A.4 Had so many diff levels to prep for- primary sch- so didn't make many vids (math)
Q4 issues with flipped learning - can be frustrating when watching videos as can't change the pace of engagement
Side note - exploring "123go! " and badges in flipped learning context. Described as "Micro learning" https://t.co/2uqsdhCja2
Nice Alex! Flipping does allow for consolidation and expansion, this appeals to me! t
my videos are 4-7 minutes. Expected to take at least 15 minutes though answering Qs, taking notes
"in-flip"- love it and love the concept!
"in-flip"- love it and love the concept!
I'm expecting... 'so you know xxx and zzz from the video, here's how we put it into practice'
Ss will help Ss
Q4. without teacher expertise, artful/creative facilitation + good subject knowledge, likely to bomb https://t.co/6Vy2NtTyFf
hopefully they save up the qs and comments for discussion in the next lesson https://t.co/JRZcb3PJQ8
A4 being on camera a T disadvantage 4 me, Ss can't ask questions during direct teaching
Q4 as mentioned earlier, can be problematic when Ss haven't engaged in out-of-class tasks
A4 Disadvantages - assumes power, agency, ITC access - time an place to learn at home assumes not living in car van, garage
A4. The big Q. What if they don't do HWK? If a student never listened to u n class, Could they still learn everything? How?
A4 Agree, the content must be still be accessible for the students. It must be within reach!
Thanks for a great chat - I've still got lots more Qs but I've gotta run to dinner!
Hopefully it allows thinking (indepedent) as well!
Hey team! Running late! Been at a board meeting! What an awesome discussion taking place 👍🏽
find the hook and engagement, everyone has an interest somewhere https://t.co/9Tm4PiHLVc
A4. The big Q. What if they don't do HWK? If a student never listened to u n class, Could they still learn everything? How?
A4 I must say I'm playing it safe with my first FC. All snrs, all with laptops, all with study periods. No excuses
Agreed. It's about expectations, monitoring and providing clear criteria. I have less trouble with flipped than teacher talk.
Can Ts use other Ts flipped stuff instead of dev their own? Is that bad?
's fifth question in coming up. Please, use A1, A2, etc. to respond to Qs in this chat about .
Amazing discussion, struggling to keep up! Welcome.
If Ss aren't willing to do work outside classroom, they aren't going to learn EVERYTHING... there needs to be some to & fro
Maybe Flipped Learning is the new CliffsNotes? :-D
I look forward to going back through and checking it out!
just talking to some students about recently who were like "well, I watched the film"
Nice response! Where there's a will, there's a way! A4
definitely not 'bad'. I just found my Ss reacted better to a voice that they knew rather than some 'random'!
that is, instead of reading the novel (not talking flipped)
A3 sorry made a cup of tea so disjointed - my experience with FC is that some kids love it and do it and others choose not to
It sounds like this class would always be tough. I've seen flip classes work miracles on unmotivated.
Hey all! Sorry, jumping in late. Just got home from grocery shopping. Am supposed to be doing dishes!
- I have also got to the point that I've probably found it quicker to make own than trawl for one I'm happy with!
A4: Jumping in super late! Need to consider hearing issues. If using video w'out teacher in frame, subtitles may be needed
This is really interesting Kelly. Ss still want the learning link with their teacher.
true but where is the Ts accountability?
I hv been incl 3 q quiz 4 end of video & gathering Q Ss hv in mind, 2 address in class https://t.co/2XX7jVUkUK
hopefully they save up the qs and comments for discussion in the next lesson https://t.co/JRZcb3PJQ8
A4 being on camera a T disadvantage 4 me, Ss can't ask questions during direct teaching
A4 lack of bandwidth is a HUGE issue with us. So we are using creative solutions with adults but is harder with U13s
the idea of connecting 2 who they know & also ss I feel react better to myself than other t that come in
A4 allows more time to support students with skills development and critical thinking in class rather than just learning info
A5 - Google Classroom
Class website
YouTube Channel
USB vids
- circle desks
Ss can turn captions on and get the subtitles if the video is uploaded to YouTube
Great answer and welcome Siobhan!
I prepared FLs for my Yr 7s when I was away at a PD, they enjoy and relief T gives good feedback https://t.co/rihhDIUbVU
A4 I must say I'm playing it safe with my first FC. All snrs, all with laptops, all with study periods. No excuses
Wait- got distracted now lost the thread Arrggghhhh
I know one Science T who is using flipped learning to provide more prac time for Ss all very happy with the situation 😃
Nice way of checking understanding Ange!
A5. Answer the Q, "what is the best use of my face to face time" Everything else flows from that.
A4. I think creating snapshots or sound bites for learning,e.g putting a short video in a Google form so Ss can respond to it
Just a flag about flipped learning - please don't ignore or discourage collaborative learning opportunities too.
Excellent! I'm taking baby-steps with 7&8 English - grammar flips to start with.
yes this is what I've found!!! Less explanation of how to do the prac - demo the basics in video & do it!
A5 I'm starting with a simple Google doc. Give the students the link at the start of term. All instructions in one spot
A4 - Some disadvantaged families may not have suitable devices for viewing vids. Might have to think how to flip w/o tech
A5 first of all Ss need to understand what flipped learning is & why it is being implemented more likely to be engaged
Nice Joel and it can't be in person showing the whole class the same info at same speed!
Flipped learning is all about collaborative learning. There should be more of that in a flipped class, not less. !
Flipped doesn't have to be individual tasks. I use it often for groups.
A5 use google classroom & youtube & have pinterest in wings - make next lesson depend on it
and links to resources Students will know before class what we are covering.
Nice Dina and welcome! Tech is still a luxury in many schools even school devices! A4
Start with satisfying learning needs (See Glasser - choice theory) , often these inhibit progress.
and i think you need a starting point. Sounds like a great idea
A5 move to small group inquiry based in class learning with 10 minute review of what HW meant 2
A5. What ever delivers the learning outcome for the students for that class best for the goal set at beginning!
Yep, works for most flexible grouping combos and collaborative tasks https://t.co/ognsQDikyh
Flipped doesn't have to be individual tasks. I use it often for groups.
A5 - I'm considering have a page on class site of the whole unit plan with links to vids.
Advice? Comments?
Can a tch re use material the next year? https://t.co/ksCsAgnEHg
Can Ts use other Ts flipped stuff instead of dev their own? Is that bad?
after school afternoon tea, WiFi access hwork type club?
majority of my lessons involve collaboration when we are face to face! Today Ss worked in groups to do research
A5. Having a Learning Management System - helps to organise and enable push and pull of information to and from Ss and Ts
Good idea, a catalogue makes your content easy to access https://t.co/oZHmklI2tJ
A5 - I'm considering have a page on class site of the whole unit plan with links to vids.
Advice? Comments?
Or an in-flip if your school has the tech for the students instead.
Any thoughts of having your own youtube channel like ? A5
A5. I use Edmodo, YouTube and email to send let my Ss know about upcoming videos... would LOVE LOVE LOVE Google Clasroom
see - now this is what bothers me a bit - like re-using exact same worksheets
Yep! Got that sorted today! :-) Need some interaction before I can have a custom URL
If you save your drafts in iMovie or similar you can edit it whenever you want https://t.co/Y4Sw62JY0I
Can a tch re use material the next year? https://t.co/ksCsAgnEHg
Can Ts use other Ts flipped stuff instead of dev their own? Is that bad?
A5. A couple of online experiences have led me to questions the present construction of schooling https://t.co/CwZZd4NVDa
A5: I am all ears and eyes for this one!
A5 evaluate if FC works, use two classes same teacher same topic same timing abandon if neccesy
Cool idea Jacque does this for film study, keeps the learning integrated and cohesive.
Theoretically, yes. But I redo lessons according to classes anyway. Some I tweak. Some I demolish.
Let the team know the address so we can "borrow"!
Let the team know the address so we can "borrow"!
Last year I uploaded all my unit videos to my 'class page' on Google Sites... but not in a GAFE school anymore
Having a place that links the vids to tasks is important - LMS is a key part of it for me
Share series of tasks based on Blooms on powerpoint in OneDrive. Students work independently.
Nice and also maybe look at diff times of day!
Nice Danielle, the online sharing allows for non-video FCs.
A5 in nZ we are free to try new things, and ditch them if they dont work - i exeriment and fail
A5 when observing Ss learning online I came to notice that structured classrooms were not where it happened. It was in life.
Me too! Haven't implemented flipped learning YET, so would love to hear more 😊 https://t.co/38stbt8EBs
A5: I am all ears and eyes for this one!
Great point Dean. I'd use probably a youtube channel and my Google Classroom stream.
How many other forms of pedagogy would you do this for?
You're ahead of a lot of us!
You're ahead of a lot of us!
My flipped classroom with my girls last year worked great... finding girls at new school enjoying, but boys more resistant
like idea good to repeat at least once before abandoning - time to review/revise
A5 just take it slowly =- see if it works - see if other's adopt - just try in own classes then
use existing material as template & modify accordingly https://t.co/JpkUPKpNWf
Theoretically, yes. But I redo lessons according to classes anyway. Some I tweak. Some I demolish.
Brisbane and Adelaide are hosting flipcon later this year if interested https://t.co/iJWOvP7WE6
Me too! Haven't implemented flipped learning YET, so would love to hear more 😊 https://t.co/38stbt8EBs
A5: I am all ears and eyes for this one!
Need to get student voice- critical for repair and maintenance or rebuild IMO.
Super frustrated that old YouTube chan on old schl email address is no longer accessible - some vids have over 1000 views :(
Perfect, we need one in NZ!
well, haven't updated recently, but in theory... Also they archive in so students still have link
A5 video using swivl your self talking and teachinga & review with colleagues hw 2 teach better
Is there anyone a channel can be shared or transferred?
A4
Also need to make sure that students with lower digital literacy don't get left behind in flipping learning
That's clever and very innovative!
Nice! I use Google Classroom / Drive for that at the moment. Might consider S access to site
I often talk about it in terms of Footy. You watch the game at night, then you go play in the park to practise.
I agree, need to ensure no student withdraws due to comprehension issues.
Nobody ever made the Aussie Team because they watched the game. You've got to come into class and practise!
A5 get kids to make own notes, videos, presenations of content - then feed those bck in HW 2all
I emailed YouTube - no go :(
Go for it and be prepared for early and maybe big fails at first! A6
yes i direct Ss who need extra assistance to check other Ts videos to help
A6 - pretty much all my flipping tips have come from so check out his site!
A6. Engage the students in the making of resources for flipping!
A6 Best tip start small, stay quiet, be humble and recognize and learn from failure FAIL first
A5 keep it short, 2-5 mins, and 1 idea or concept
What do you use to make your video?
A6. We are considering turning part of our next Stage 6 task to create a flipped style video!
A6 very inexperienced, but already see the benefits for my Ss
Loved when I flipped my math enrichment lessons I had parents thanking me as well as sts
A list of skills, attitudes, attributes and behaviours that are required to manage our own learning. https://t.co/XRLDPCECJc
A6 realize that FC is one startegy in a qyuiver, arrsenal, magazine of evices to help learnings
A6 Use something to fill the void when correcting any placement tests, eg a sound/video fragment related to the lesson topic.
Very cool, that's when you know you've cracked it!
can be hard for Ss with learning difficulties need careful planning - remember captions for HI Ss

A6. At the end of last yr Ss gave feedback to new Ss to 'WATCH THE VIDEOS'!!! They really saw the value in it!
Captions, what a great idea!
A6 monitor check question debate discuss critique and evaluate teh HW with kids, daily feedback
A6 Keep it short and engaging.
A6 teach Ss how to effectively use the vids, think about what happens next, keep them short and active not just passive
IO agree, get the students to suggest feedback, changes, it's about them after all!
My yr11 R&E class just made PowerPoint video for next years Yr 11!
you don't necessarily have to put your face in your videos - I don't! Do most of mine at night in my pjs!
A6 get kids to make the videos as they can best teach themselves and others but help them do it
Interested in the least complicated. You have done it so many times...
A6 Best FC tip - know what you want students to know, understand & do thorough planning is the key
sorry off task, just stepped out, my wife tells me theres a strawberry moon tonight
A6 stop worrying about flash and pizzazz and craft - just do your best to help get ideas across
I hate to keep asking questions but what subject? This will help you decide.
If planning as you go, plan a few videos in advance whenever you get a chance to keep on top of it!
Q6 a growth mindset! I constantly use technological glitches to model this to my learners (staff)
For next yr, will be getting Ss to record on video what they enjoyed - then that will form the 1st vid for new Ss & parents
Then I'd have nothing left! LOL
And speak clearly! Even with subtitles, I like to know how to pronounce jargon (if applicable)
I'm standing at my laptop applauding you now - you're a genius!! I LOVE this!
https://t.co/YKOIiyDO3p
My yr11 R&E class just made PowerPoint video for next years Yr 11!
I don't put my face in either. I like a script and no solution to reading not making eye contact.
lol, so different 2 my Ss who flip 4 yr 1 & prep T, rhyme, patterning etc
Love for developing resources
What would you have liked to have known before the task was given? Hat was stimulus!Result was good feedback 4me
A6 start simple and have fun! Sts know if you're into getting flipped
When I present, most people want to know and learn from the fails! A6
I am in junior primary. Science.
A6 the best ideas are always stolen & that is the highest compiliment in teaching too
haha yes - usually locked in my bedroom away from the screeching bird!!!
A6: let it naturally evolve start small and improve
Stolen, I prefer "borrowed" LOL
each to their own, but when I asked the Ss, they preferred my melon on screen https://t.co/XLVpek4TCR
I don't put my face in either. I like a script and no solution to reading not making eye contact.
maybe have pop-up glossary to assist S comprehension when engaging in subject specific words
Just wish I could give credit where due but it's just stuff I've read & lost
I haven't tried to be honest - it took me a while to get used to my voice - perhaps I should try
I'd say your best bet is to start with screencastomatic and do screencasts or just capture your webcam. Easy peasy.
A6 Looking a bit like a dork and sounding like one is my greatest gifts & assets
Thanks to for reminding me to update my weebly stash of videos!
A6.Don't over do it!Snapshots & sound bites. Think activating prior knowledge and continuing the conversation no boring bits!
Interesting the distinctions!
I love Screencastify - it speaks with Google Chrome & Google Drive!! Then uploads to YouTube
Thank you! Totally agree. My Ss like the natural, conversational approach so going for that.
I hv used Explain E a lot, just trying to use my relationship with Ss, familiarity etc to our advantage
Thanks! I'll give it a try next term.
Nice Jacque, particularly if students are going to go back and forth. A6
Twitter chats so many ideas you get to upgrade really quick! Imagine how far behind those who aren't https://t.co/CPeaYkUIFf
Just wish I could give credit where due but it's just stuff I've read & lost
Nice share Ange, just starting to understand Explain E.
Try screencastomatic full version please! Talks to drive and youtube and has awesome editing.
ha it's not what they prefer, it's what I prefer! :) They don't need to see me, they can hear my dulcet tones!
hmm might have a look over the holidays - but am a creature of habit :p
A6 FAIL early often and spectacularly - pick yourself off teh floor LISTEN, LEARN and try AGAIN
An amazing chat, huge sharing and I'm now tired but a lot smarter than 60 mins ago!
