Welcome back coaches! #GAHSFBCHAT is back and in full effect!
Tonight we will be discussing: Post-Season Analysis
Let's begin w/ roll call.
Tell us your name and school/state that you are currently coaching for!
New year, but same format.
We will use the Q1:A1 format.
Be sure to use the #Tag#GAHSFBCHAT in each of your post.
Also be sure to increase your coaching network by following your fellow coaches.
Q1: 5. We started off with a tough schedule and the kids couldn’t find their fire to begin the year. They improved as the year went on and got better, but when adversity snuck in some lost their cool. As coaches we have to do a better job to harness that energy. #GAHSFBCHAT
A1: 7
We won a few games, but more importantly, we were able to see a substantial change in the culture of our football program. Still got a lot of work to do tho.
#GAHSFBCHAT
A1: 7, made a lot of milestones & team records broken. Sweet 16 in playoffs. But defensively, we could have done better. Relied on the offense too much. #GAHSFBCHAT
Q2: The secondary was able to really come along last season. Greatly improved our man to man coverage and found success with a newer FB player. As a team, we were on the brink of a playoff berth. That’ll be the goal in 2018 #GAHSFBCHAT
A1: I would rate it as a 2 or 3. Took a while, but the culture is changing now. Got a lot of buy in, so I fully expect that number to be much higher next season. Get a LOT more done with a full off season #GAHSFBCHAT
A1 I feel like we started off the season at a 6. It took a long time to find leaders. But we ended up finding our way and ended up having a great season and ended up a solid 8. #gahsfbchat
A1: 8. One of the best seasons and best group of young men I have ever been around. A truly special senior group. 8-2 regular season and ranked 5th in state. Disappointing first round playoff loss when we had a 4th quarter lead. #GAHSFBCHAT
A2 took a group with 1 9th 2 10th and 2 seniors with only one that had multiple starts and put together a strand of games giving up only one sack #GAHSFBCHAT
Q2 - A2 Made a return to the Playoffs/ above .500 for the first time in a few years underneath great leadership at HC, AD, and Admin. As a unit met a few pre-season goals #GAHSFBCHAT
Lots of progress to be made!! Not resting on our laurels! In the end you are what the record books say you are but things will continue to get turned around #YACNation#TheStandard#TheSalemWay#RaiseTheBar
A2: Biggest accomplishment was probably that everyone accepted their role and also that players understood they had to practice hard to get better. Both of those made every single day enjoyable!#GAHSFBCHAT
Q1: How would you rate your season on a scale of 1-10? Culturally, Offensively, Defensively, Special Teams or Collectively. Were you satisfied or dis-satisfied?
A2 Making the playoffs and this year getting a home playoff game, of which we got 2. But we don’t focus on the macro. We focus on our standard every day (micro) and make sure we live up to that #BEST#GAHSFBCHAT
A3: Last season was my first season as a coach. This year, I need to do a better job of setting those goals before the season begins. So I’ll say that I failed to prepare properly and failed to communicate my wishes for the team. Has to change! #GAHSFBCHAT
Q2 Reached the playoffs for the first time in progrsm history. Still have some work to do but a few big plays in a few games and we could have won the region. #gahsfbchat
A4: I would love to make sure I communicate my goals for the unit and each player both before the season starts, and before each game. Would also like to put more emphasis on physical man to man press coverage #GAHSFBCHAT
#gahsfbchat
A1 offensively we want to be physical. That has got to be our mind set and attitude. We made progress but, did not get to where we needed to. That will be a priority this spring
A4: we’ve made great strives in making an effort to depend on NOTHING but high character kids. If you can’t trust them in practice, then you can’t on Friday night #GAHSFBCHAT
A5: I learned that at times, I need to relax, take a step back, and evaluate myself in addition to the players. Especially on game day when everything is tense and energy is high! #GAHSFBCHAT
A3: no playoffs. Didn’t finish when we needed to as a position group that’s on me as their coach. No collect effort over 90% when we can have one of those watch out. #GAHSFBCHAT
A5: I learned that I must continue to search for things to reinvent my philosophy both on and off the field. My HC is a well known and respected veteran, and he still goes to clinics and looks for new ways to do things. Gotta continue to grow #GAHSFBCHAT
A5: I learned that I need to relax more during the games. My position sees me flustered and frustrated and they will get frustrated too. I also learned to trust my guys more. #GAHSFBCHAT
a5: I just have have to get better at 100% Elite body language for my players; No blame & complaining during the game. Basically Play the Next play 1005 of the time not 90% #gahsfbchat
A4: get together earlier and more often with my kids outside of football. Football is about so much more than the game. Just continuing to do more off the field with group. #GAHSFBCHAT
Q6: What tools have you used to evaluate and inform your players about their performance this season. (i.e. exit interviews, surveys, etc.)
#GAHSFBCHAT
A6 I have moved on to another position with another school but still teach where I coach so get to still have that relationship with players. #GAHSFBCHAT
A6: Sadly, we did not have a proper system in place. This upcoming season, I have an Excel sheet to track each players performance for each game (there are slots for bad penalties and extra effort as well). Those will be used weekly and for exit interviews #GAHSFBCHAT
A6: Each of my position coaches conducted exit interviews with each member of his position group. We also distributed a survey for the team to complete with a variety of questions ranging from personal performance to team culture.
#GAHSFBCHAT
A6: I think our offseason program has done a good job with letting them know the standard has changed around here. They know what’s in the past, we’re focusing on week 1 #GAHSFBCHAT
Q6: What tools have you used to evaluate and inform your players about their performance this season. (i.e. exit interviews, surveys, etc.)
#GAHSFBCHAT
#gahsfbchat
Q6 Informal interviews. We have had longer to get to know each other. Explained and still communicating my expectations of them as players. Great effort. Let me coach you. Play FAST and Play Physical.
A6: we had each player evaluate themselves from this past season and as a coach I evaluated each guy and set up interviews with them to review their answers. We also set goals for the spring and summer. #GAHSFBCHAT
Q6: What tools have you used to evaluate and inform your players about their performance this season. (i.e. exit interviews, surveys, etc.)
#GAHSFBCHAT
A6 is also the answer to question 5. No doubt I have to improve my analytics games. From the offensive efficiency To getting my players to understand how they did, that has to be a priority So if anyone has a good way to analyze their offense, I am all ears!#GAHSFBCHAT
A7: I track player performance in hudl and use thst to evauate how effective i wss as a coach. Secondary whise i look for PBU, TD catches, big runs and long passes & %complete to guide me in what we need to work on in the off-season. #GAHSFBCHAT
A8: used for different techniques to help kids who are struggling the current way. Always need more than one way to find a solution and get the player to be able to successfully execute. No player left behind. #GAHSFBCHAT
A8 HUGE I have already learned so much in the clinics I have attended as well as Twitter continues to help me grow as a coach in a daily basis #GAHSFBCHAT
A8: I love talking ball on these chats, and even more getting out and going to clinics, talking with other coaches. I’m very fortunate to have great friends who are much smarter than me I can talk ball with all the time. #GAHSFBCHAT
Attending a few clinics, but spending more time meeting with other HS coaches and throwing ideas & philosophies off of each other. Has been very beneficial thus far.
#gahsfbchat
A8: Clinics and chats are huge. I actually prefer chats because they can be more targeted and you can take in a lot more info quickly. Can hear from 20+ coaches in an hour rather than just 1. #GAHSFBCHAT
A8: used for different techniques to help kids who are struggling the current way. Always need more than one way to find a solution and get the player to be able to successfully execute. No player left behind. #GAHSFBCHAT
A3) we were able to establish an identity of playing fast and with a lot of variety on offense and defensively we established our identity of pursuing like crazy men to the ball and getting to the quarterback.
#GAHSFBCHAT
#gahsfbchat
Q6 I'm stealing @coach_johnson7 idea. Gonna let the kids tell me what they feel their weak links are and strong areas are. Do that before Spring ball
A8: I love these chats. I try to take one thing from most of them. There's plenty of good ideas from coaches all around the country, and encourage every coach to participate. Not gonna get to many clinics this year, preparing for baby number 1 due in May. #GAHSFBCHAT
A8: As a coach I’m always trying to soak up as much info and talk football with other coaches. It’s always good to get a different perspective from other good coaches #GAHSFBCHAT
#gahsfbchat
Q7 study cut ups. Evaluate players and evaluate ourselves. What scheme is best for the kids we have? What can we do better? Why did we never get this simple detail accomplished, even tho we repped it a ton
A9 have been able to build a mentality with my guys of family first they know no matter what I and the rest of the crew have their backs and will do anything for each other #GAHSFBCHAT
A4) we had a player that was a behavior problem last season and in pre-season. I gave the young man too many chances and only after the proverbial stuff hit the fan did I throw him off the team. He should have been gone earlier. Better too early than too late.
#GAHSFBCHAT
A9: I was able to develop great relationships. Taking the DB job, I was warned of selfish kids that didn’t always listen or care what a coach had to say. I was able to joke with them, and get tough on them with no issues. The selfishness/attitude never showed up #GAHSFBCHAT
A9: that’s a question that’s tough to answer now. That answer isn’t known for sure for quite some time. The impacts I know I’ve made come from the messages from players that have gone on or I haven’t coached in years. It’s a marathon, not a sprint #GAHSFBCHAT
A9: One of my players texted and asked to use me as a reference on a job application. Been my biggest point of pride since I started coaching to have that kind of trust from a player. #GAHSFBCHAT
Having an impact is what it's all about coaches. Let's make sure that we don't get so caught up in wins & losses that we forget to HAVE AN IMPACT!
#GAHSFBCHAT
We had a tragedy involving one of our football cheerleaders @bbudde leadership through that was life changing for some kids, in my opinion. He handled it w/compassion and grace and truly showed great leadership. Fantastic role model for our guys #LiveLikeMaddi#GAHSFBCHAT
