Welcome 2 #HipHopEd tonight we are looking back at the year in Hip-Hop. What are some the songs and stories of 2018 that will make this year memorable for you as an educator and a fan?
I plan on diving in an creating a list of songs that I liked from 2018 but off the top, I can say that this was a very good year for Hip-Hop! #HipHopEd
Lupe Fiasco's "Manilla" and "WAV Files" might be one of the most captivating ways to discuss the Transatlantic slave trade in 2018...or just in hip-hop period. The textual analysis for that track's lyrics is craze. #HipHopEd
Hip-Hop in 2018 set the stage for voices from different generations to speak life into our culture. There are lessons to be learned by this example #HipHopEd
I absolutely love the way @mickjenkins engaged an abundance of sublime and mundane topics on his project Pieces of a Man! Everything ncludin vulnerability, love, spirituality, & inter-generational dialogue are taken up beautifully there. Cant wait 2 see him in Chicago. #HipHopEd

Hip Hop is in its emo phase, reminds me of some of the punk rock I listened to in high school - I am appreciative of this shift to lyrics and content showcasing emotional vulnerability #HipHopEd
Hip-Hop in 2018, intentionally & unintentionally, highlighted issues of #MentalHealthAwareness & the need for constant check-ins for our loved ones. #hiphoped
The SWERVO - G Herbo & Southside album resonated with me and many of my students! From the art to Focused to Bonjour to Letter he showed depth, growth and authenticity 4 our most vulnerable #HipHopEd

@JColeNC {Brackets} can be used in social studies/ government classes to explain the process and also gives ideas on how government can be changed #HipHopEd
Punken by Maxo Kream was worth the time. Maxo's story of being A.A. & Nigerian in Huston was an interesting look at our comm. plus he got bars/storytelling & respect 4 HH history https://t.co/fB9uRK8jUK#HipHopEd

Hip hop was great this year for all generations in the genre and happy to see other entrepreneurial means too. @TheJoeBuddenPod@Drinkchamps@revolttv and various other media outlets had a great year of content and discussions which pushes the culture. #HipHopEd #2018
The Black Panther Soundtrack Album was another dope moment for HH...deep Diasporic roots & connections from SOBxRGE to Jorga to Mozzy & Jay Rock to Babes Wodumo #HipHopEd
IMO, @Royceda59 Had the best hip-hop album of 2018. Lyrically above par, subject matter was personal, narratives were on point, production was top notch. #HipHopEd
Thought showed us that he is who we always thought he was.... The most dangerous, lyrical, and intellectual emcee in 2018... and every year since he picked up a mic #hiphoped
2018 felt unique because of the confluence between so many new projects AND iconic forms that celebrated important historical milestones (Wu & ATCQ 25 yrs old). The confluence of contemporary and historically salient music makes this a very special year 4 tha culture. #HipHopEd
Ive seen cogens with 1st graders & they have been amazing. If youth can talk, they can suggest improvements to how they are being taught #HipHopEd#RealityPedagogy
Anderson Paak’s Oxnard is the most underrated project of 2018. That is super talented, and exploring heavy concepts over fire instrumentals and live instrumentation #HipHopEd

Streamed #RollingLoudLA over the weekend while my sons were there to get a grasp on the new school. Wish I understood what they were saying so I can integrate curriculum. Any ideas on which one I should start with? #oldskool#HipHopEd
Hip hop has aged beautifully, and 2018 shows a little of how powerful the culture is going to continue to be. Need more of these discussions in all classrooms. #HipHopEd
Great question and I think it is something that we take lead on as educators and fans of varying ages, If we make our conversations loud enough the art will follow #HipHopEd
#hiphoped How r we counting the collaborations? For pure fun I like what Snoop is doing with L'il Duval, TLC, even his gospel stuff...i like how the lines are bending and blurring!
In 2018 the conversations (podcasts) and the music flowed harmoniously, almost perfect. Helped me realize what in-depth Hip-Hop conversations can sound like - without capitalistic mainstream standards #HipHopEd

There were many voices in 2018 that commercially maybe lesser known but are revered by our students so we have to expand our playlist beyond our personal fandom as #HipHopEd (ucators)
His introspection was bananas. He covered so much. #HipHopEd
It was a legit text. Cats could learn some.
Coming of age
Toxic Masculinity
Family
Love
Fatherhood
Black Identity
Substance abuse
Mental Health
There is and there isn't. When there is, and in the case where you're the elder 😁, meet the youth where they are, seek understanding, ask questions, make connection points..the sample, an artist's influence, compare and contrast.. keep building #HipHopEd
The Hip-Hop + Rap scenes in the UK, Brazil (w/ the elections+ current pplitical sit.), France, +Eastern Europe were on 🔥🔥this year. Seeing tons of cats from emerging markets explode ie Higher Brothers from China (See their @greatbigstory here https://t.co/Iu40u0Jwjy) #HipHopEd
