Nice pic. Is that her shooting or saving?
RT How do you ensure a great conversation/learning experience becomes action? What are your 1st next steps for implementation?

Hey Tim from Michigan. Happy Monday!
Good to hear you guys are having good weather. We have had so much rain my dam filled up over teh weekend
Doing a little research to see how others in your content area do it helps me see a model and percolate more ideas
Hi Oona from NJ. I teach HS ELA. I've been up since 12:45am when my 3 y/o woke up. He went back to sleep. Mom, not so much.
I'm a "have to try/play" after the convo or PD. I make sure I have the basics. Then full speed ahead. https://t.co/CHqDB2Wgqa
Hello! "How do you ensure a great conversation/learning experience becomes action? What are your 1st next steps for implementation?
I will be doing a lot of learning today in
Do something to hold yourself accountable: tell a friend, write on calendar, set a reminder in your phone... https://t.co/YxyoZUnLfW
Hello! "How do you ensure a great conversation/learning experience becomes action? What are your 1st next steps for implementation?
We are talking about follow through here which is a big problem in schools.
get something on the calendar immediately so there's a tangible deadline - and collaborate/coteach (more support, feedback)
Good Morning Deanna from West Chester, PA.
I figure if I tell my friends I'm going to do something, I am more likely to do than not
I figure if I tell my friends I'm going to do something, I am more likely to do than not
Good morning ! Tracy from MA eager to hear your thoughts on turning ideas into action.
One way that has worked for us is to assign tasks at the conclusion. Keeps everyone focused & moving forward.
As a philosophy major I love to operate in the theoretical, however, all the theory in the world is lost worthless action
Saving. She's a goalkeeper and trying to get over to the US to play college soccer
Oh noes! Sorry you've been spending your wee hours up with the wee one!
Best way to start a and every day.
GM Greetings from the Isaacs B&B in Bround Brook, NJ *rubbing sleep out of eyes*
Talk with out action - happens a LOT! Create specific timeline with accountability for all parties & be committed to the process
Reflection and follow up are essential to ensure a great conversation/learning experience become action.
This is so true - without a deadline people tend to procrastinate and then forget
Maybe cliche but, Just Do It. Can't wait for someone else to get it started after good ideas. I take it & run. Hope others join
Bounce your idea off your PLN. They will add to, & make you think of things that hadn't occurred to you.
How is the conversation curated? Consider this as part of your branding, especially if action is desired end result.
Love this idea. I am good with deadlines!
The difference between talk and action is people. The right people will follow through with tasks.
For me, in my classroom, I research, research and then ask the Ss for their help. I say "I have this crazy idea.."
Hi ! David from Ireland, 10.30 here so I'm kind of cheating!
I took in so much this weekend at , so I'm going to keep it simple here--reflect on notes & prioritize
good morning and happy groundhogs day!
Wanted to flip classroom this yr but it was overwhelming. Watched videos of what s science classroom looked like
Eric in Nj with sleep deprivation
Nice. Back before it hurt to hit the ground I was a keeper. Good luck to her!
Reply on action: Use case studies and show-and-tell as bridge experience btw theory and practice.
Agreed, but the lack of follow-through can be attributed to many fads that fade in edu. We stick w/ good stuff that sticks
There are PLENTY of teachers out there who just want to talk about doing something amazing.
True. We have to act! https://t.co/LMFz6VicRl
As a philosophy major I love to operate in the theoretical, however, all the theory in the world is lost worthless action
Nothing like public accontability!
OK two important decisions...
WHO
WHAT EXACTLY
those great ideas need these spelled out or they just roll on as ideas
good morning! Michelle, student work study, Ontario
Great Q this am!
Accountability....THAT'S IT!! https://t.co/H3JRKqpxOc
Share ideas with colleagues. They hold me accountable, in good way, for follow through.
Make a plan of action. Take small steps to implement change. Share your excitement with others. Tweet new ideas!!
Create obtainable action steps and assign them to folks I the conversation. Then build from there. . https://t.co/JpPSrUHOsf
Hello! "How do you ensure a great conversation/learning experience becomes action? What are your 1st next steps for implementation?
Bridging the gap between theory & practice happens via genuine accountability. Share your plan w a colleague that'll hold you to it.
Try my new learning right away in the classroom...otherwise too easy for it to become a happy memory.
Now I'm wondering - Before you take those next, actionable steps or make a plan: how do you even CHOOSE the 'thing" you want to try?
If it's an action related to S's I make sure I tell them-they are great at reminding me that I said I we were going to do X, Y or Z!
Good morning ! Dan here, up early, not running but did meditate so celebrating baby steps back.
If I am trying something, I find another principal, share the idea then ask them to check in on me weekly. accountability partners
We need to consider the other side of it too. Too many cooks in the kitchen leaves you with stone soup.
Find a buddy to implement with. I learn more when I have someone to do things with and share.
Keep in mind that your "action" doesn't need to be a finished product. Sometimes it's an iterative process
I've learnt to watch the game from a very different standpoint when you're barracking for the keeper
for me, putting something down on my shared public calendar makes it a priority - sez "it's happening, world!"
After sharing your idea, put it into action. Then reflect. Repeat with modifications (if they are necessary & they usually are.)
It's at the end of January every year at in Philadelphia. If you can go, do. Amazing.
And you have to build in time for reflection! Usually the first thing that goes when busy, gives the most power in the future
I usually hear about it here or another chat https://t.co/pc5V4YSNE2
Now I'm wondering - Before you take those next, actionable steps or make a plan: how do you even CHOOSE the 'thing" you want to try?
I also tell my Ss my plans as well - they hold me accountable and if I tell them I'm sure they tell their Ps
yes, we have burnt out teachers who have gotten used to paying lip service.
For me if I'm excited about something I have to just jump in and try it.
So many great strategies already!
Agree, Lori. Have to leave with a plan. https://t.co/noALdtD831
Talk with out action - happens a LOT! Create specific timeline with accountability for all parties & be committed to the process
Cliches are often true. Try and try again.
That's wonderful! I have attended for yrs via Twitter & the live stream. Did you see any of the session videos?
GOOOOOOOD Morning from Bangkok!! Where it is sunset here!!
Like-minded, passionate people empower me to follow through https://t.co/JwRZzoftA5
I figure if I tell my friends I'm going to do something, I am more likely to do than not
poor thing. They grow up, I promise
IGot to be interested. If I'm not I try to pass it on 2 someone who I think might be. Love sharing out ideas https://t.co/fcsMPS8wbd
Now I'm wondering - Before you take those next, actionable steps or make a plan: how do you even CHOOSE the 'thing" you want to try?
That's awesome! One of my boys chose Just Do It as his motto on Friday. Too funny:)
Because people are scared of change? And often there's top down pressure, fear of testing
We must first model what we expect. Ts & Ss observe to see if leaders really follow through on what we expect of them.
Heard good things about it. Anyone going to ?
I think that's THE most important Q, Jessica. Am I doing this because it's nice to do or need to do?
I like this a lot, and need to do the same. I think I even need to prioritize which things to reflect on (blog/vlog)
metacognition is always a great thing
Accept that "it" might not work out as planned. Be ok with that. Sometimes, it works out even better.
I like to share new ideas with Ss for feedback. They are very candid in their feedback! They also help me to reshape ideas!
True. But some get stuck talking because of lack of admin. support. How do you get everyone on board for a new idea?
saw your posts from last week - it's on my calendar for next year!
it all depends on the context and participants of the convo - if it's somebody I really respect (like many of you) the fire is lit.
Yes! I used to have the privilege of working with my teacher soul mate-we used buddy system all the time!
We also have to be humble enough to admit if ideas that stem from a great experience need to be tweaked from our original plan.
Talk the talk, walk the walk.you have to implement an action plan for change
Yes, get it to the laboratory right away and then you'll know what to do, have a better sense.
sometimes it's not worth telling others what we do because they may not be as passionated as us
They also usually have the answers because then they are vested in it as well.
Use case studies and show and tell as bridge between theory and practice for action; use social action models
Yes, it's easy to pump people up. Long term follow through takes a lot of dedicated energy
This is the difference between leadership and management. Leaders inspire others to follow through. Managers just assign tasks.
feeling a bit the same. Up since 5:30, I had to catch 2 young alpaca to take to school today for my Husbandry class
This gets to the messyness of learning. Very little works out as planned - this is what drives me
True. Get started & see what happens, what you can learn
being a cannibal is key! Having your Ss and Ps as partners helps ensures completion – great idea
A lot of times they come from the recommendation of ppl I admire and trust! So many great things come from the !
So how do you know that the things you've heard are the right things for you, your Ss, your school?
Agree! Surround ourselves with like minded, passionate people. Love this!
Collaborate and communicate! A small core group who are like minded but bring different qualities and skills are better than a flock
I totally agree w/ . The loudest course of action we can have is to model our expectations -- even developing ones.
Can we talk about where to find the time and resources to take this action, because without those, how can it get done?
The vision for the high expectation must be clear and promote the end result. Then Ts will know how they & Ss will benefit.
that's why I'm here most days!
A1: Create a system for collaboration. After PD, set small goals for follow through. Try ONE idea. Document on collaborative doc.
Agreed! https://t.co/RRLOsktLwX
This is the difference between leadership and management. Leaders inspire others to follow through. Managers just assign tasks.
That's a great point. Take what we want to use & pass on the rest to others who might be interested
We should clarify those roles. Not everybody can lead in this way and we need good managers as well.
Sharing new learning is so important...collaborate together on implementing...better together!
I start from that space too! Or, I read in a book @ ... , want to try? https://t.co/hLMBdDFwya
For me, in my classroom, I research, research and then ask the Ss for their help. I say "I have this crazy idea.."
Tweet and blog. Staff newsletter to share is also a way to spread the enthusiasm.
Hi Carl! How is Central Queensland today?
It is a gut feeling. Would this work in my classroom or not? I usually mull over for a little while
I identify what theme I'm not happy with... Especially with giving Ss more ownership over their learning
I like to think about good leaders and good teachers as talent managers. My talent is well managed. I manage my Ss talent
certainly! "And when will we talk about this?" is a Q I'm always asking my co-teachers - shared talk important!
Not many peeps can use that excuse! !😀 https://t.co/hQ3L2HR6CM
feeling a bit the same. Up since 5:30, I had to catch 2 young alpaca to take to school today for my Husbandry class
talk about it some more & make real plans with manageable expectations for short term. When that works. Add to it.
I used to teach change management. Choose what meets your goals. So first up... have goals
Sound familiar?? Lol Jump right in! That's how it's done!! https://t.co/F1x9yhKO5C
For me if I'm excited about something I have to just jump in and try it.
Yes, and always reflect on how to make it better https://t.co/oXmX3clRy2
Accept that "it" might not work out as planned. Be ok with that. Sometimes, it works out even better.
Choices are a balance between head and heart. Pedagogy and Emotion. Both matter. . Always worth the chance to improve.
I dont know. Administrative support is so important to initiative building.
Morning Share your excitement & learning! Ask colleagues to join in & thank them as well :)
Yes! Pls pls don't just take things back because they're "cool"/"new"/"shiny"etc. Know WHY your Ss NEED that https://t.co/Qq1C60pL2P
I think that's THE most important Q, Jessica. Am I doing this because it's nice to do or need to do?
BTW, I think this convo relates to all professions, not just teaching.
Unfortunately most resources are my own pocketbook.
and there's nothing worse/ I hate more than Ss churning out the same thing every assignment. Usually that's my starting pt
Go Phillies:). Sorry I couldn't resist:)
intuition, followed by critically thinking about possible impact, but ultimately WHAT IS BEST FOR Ss? https://t.co/cL0LmutUfs
Now I'm wondering - Before you take those next, actionable steps or make a plan: how do you even CHOOSE the 'thing" you want to try?
true! Leadership and culture matter
This is what I asked my Ts 2 do Fri-facilitated PD session on being Connected Educator-asked them to set 1 small goal
Collaboration is key. Develop action steps with other folks. We are better together, indeed.
So true! We need more leaders!
Yes, there are so many exciting ideas out there, it's easy to get distracted.
Welcome to the world of fun learning...any time of day! 😊
Definitely. Give "it" a go and then evaluate
Fantastic! I highly recommend it for edus interested in inquiry, social justice, PBL...
Thanks for a quick burst of positive energy. Got to get back to work! Enjoy the week.
Also, focus on just 1 or 2 new things @ a time to do it well.So many new, great ideas floating around, it's easy to get overwhelmed.
Data, questions, collaboration, solutions. We need to follow that path to build interest.
Amen Manny! https://t.co/lHHCAGPDyE
This is the difference between leadership and management. Leaders inspire others to follow through. Managers just assign tasks.
husband calls it the Bank of Frances - "Is the BOF funding this project?"
so true – if we r not in the foxhole w/them & not demonstrating our expectations, how else are they know what to do.
My idea for today. To practice long u words we are going to make blue emus. I won't show Ss an emu till they're done.
Lastly we must praise and acknowledge Ts & Ss 4 having great convos. This will inspire them 2 want have more indep. convos.
Also, Nike has a pretty good saying, Just Do It
Sometimes you don't know till you try. Trust the T-instinct.
Usually it's BC Ss do things just for points/ grades in my high performing school. I want then to *learn* how to do something new
Sometimes, we choose NOT to do anything with a new idea too. Timing is off and doesn't feel it right. That's ok too.
Tried at least 5 different diets before real success - change is iterative but has to be right for YOU and nobody else. 1/2
LOL! When I was told I was moving grades again, 1st reaction was what about all the $ I spent?
I think, then, my Q would be "How can this challenge & change my Ss and me?"
Sometimes I also ask, "What need or problem could this solve for in my situation?" as a reflection starting point
Agree! Reflection is such an important piece in going from good to great!
No truer statement ever spoken! Addition by subtraction. Plates are already so full we must FOCUS!
Not all convos require action - don't we need space 2 imagine & explore many ideas & see which take root https://t.co/E5bOrZc785
Hello! "How do you ensure a great conversation/learning experience becomes action? What are your 1st next steps for implementation?
I'm a "Polly Anna" so I don't let others' negativity weigh me down! "Ain't nobody got time for that!" https://t.co/sAFPsaBN2O
sometimes it's not worth telling others what we do because they may not be as passionated as us
Such a great point. Know your goals so you know what you're doing and why https://t.co/581GSoIKhA
I used to teach change management. Choose what meets your goals. So first up... have goals
saw something recently that said Leaders don't create followers. They create new leaders
2/2 (I always relate change to diet/weight loss bc it takes sustained effort and long term vision)
We measure ideas against our philosophy - does this really promote independence, deeper thinking, etc.
Change mgmt is very much integral to my work. I love Knoster Model. What did you use when you taught it?
they also r able 2 gain ownership of their ideas! Great idea! Their lessons become even more relevant2 their lives
the day is too short to deal with negative weight
Thanks ! I must introduce my colleagues and to the community!
Have to jump out early-was only on campus 1.5days last week-LOTS to catch up on today! Happy to all my friends!
As a principal, I have to be willing to model risk taking too. Cant' just expect my teachers to try all the new ideas alone.
We call it the OAPDF: Oona Abrams Professional Development Fund. It's in the red right now haha!
Aha! Been there! Very nice! Born in Qld naturally thought of the Qld one!
We need to be more comfortable removing people who won't put in the work. Is there a consequence for lack of follow through?
This !! https://t.co/rhch1wzDQA
Collaboration is key. Develop action steps with other folks. We are better together, indeed.
hahahahah Oh my gosh, you ladies are cracking me up this morning!
