    As we approach the topic of media literacy today, I think of the presidency of George H.W. Bush. From Tienanmen Square to the fall of the Berlin Wall to the collapse of the Soviet Union, Bush was president during quite a series of earth-shaking historical moments. #POTUS41 #nt2t

    A1: Well, I believe as a language major and linguist, my definition will vary. Literacy is the ability to read. Media can be a book, something digital, a newspaper, a magazine, etc. So media literacy is the ability to read those things. #nt2t

    A2: Honestly I just naturally use this in my classroom without even thinking about it. Sometimes my Ss teach me but we use this almost daily! Google Classroom, online review games, writing papers in MLA format, reading articles online, watching native speakers online...#nt2t

    I love to take apart a film with students. Going through the mechanics from the opening shot to the music, to how the dialogue happens on the screen. It's an eye-opener. #nt2t

    2. That is a hard one to answer media is an ever evolving entity and that makes it hard to define examples of what you need to incorporate. I think the best thing is teaching is the who/what sent it and the why it was sent make the readers understand why it was sent out. #nt2t

    Well, I grew up without Christmas (am Jewish), but my mother made a bigger thing out of Hanukkah (which starts tomorrow night, everyone!) so we wouldn't feel left out... commercialism is a big part. But as a family (where we have a birthday in the middle) we balance it all. #nt2t

    In Italy they do not report crimes committed by people with Italian blood. They expose non-Italian criminal activity, in turn making it seem like Italians do not commit as many crimes. They are a true xenophobic country. In reality the crimes are just not equally reported. #nt2t

    A6). A school could work with an outside source that focuses on educating young people on media. My university brought in an alum who’s job is to evaluate people’s social media to determine if they are good fit for their company. Just an example. #nt2t

    A6: for me, media literacy is best taught in groups because the best learning effect lies in discussing the problem, the effects of media, e.g. advertising. It's always the best way to get students thinking if you get them talking. #nt2t

    Students should be aware of the deficiency in the reports, and understand that more is happening than the media allows them to know. It can be a matter of taking on personal research to fill in those gaps. #nt2t

    A4) I think older generations have the personal experiences in living through historical events to understand what goes on in media, but have a technological disadvantage. Younger people have the technology to do research required to evaluate sources and determine validity. #nt2t
