A2 when they can demonstrate it or use it in different situations, depends on a skill #gfedchat

  • buchhop25 Feb 11 @ 9:51 PM EST
A3: I don't really "re test" the knowledge but I try to build upon the knowledge as much as possible so that they are using it/applying it often. I think it "sticks" better that way #gfedchat
  • jgause080 Feb 11 @ 9:51 PM EST
I revisit or review more than retest. #gfedchat
  • DSwangstue Feb 11 @ 9:51 PM EST
A3: Regression is real and occurs more than we would like to see. It is difficult to watch Ss work hard towards a goal just to lose the progress over the summer months. We often reteach 5 months of curriculum to recoup the skills. #gfedchat

A3: We reinforce the information all along and throughout the lesson. #gfedchat

  • justinjhawks Feb 11 @ 9:52 PM EST
A3- I don't necessarily retest, but we are constantly referring to previous lessons and building on the material we know by comparing and contrasting countries to one another. #gfedchat

Fairly often, some of my Ss think they know the material and never ask questions to further guide them. When it comes to assessments, it is then I realize the re-assessing/teaching the concepts is needed. Assessments are check points #gfedchat
  • kseniakelly1 Feb 11 @ 9:53 PM EST

  • jay6021 Feb 11 @ 9:54 PM EST
A3: Most of my assignments are practical hands on items. Not a lot of retakes given. I think if Ss know the the expectation is that they get it the first time it dramatically cuts down on going over things again and again! #gfedchat
  • BBakes17 Feb 11 @ 9:54 PM EST
A3:This is a required and very necessary task that is done for any of my Ss.Many of them say they understand what is going on in class but do not show they do when they are tested on the material.Retesting, teaching and assessing Ss for each new topic is highly needed. #gfedchat

A4I feel that there may be someSs that are prepared for life outside of school but there are many othersthat are notMany have not been heldto the higher standard that they needto be held toMany do not have the college readiness because schoolsare not set up like college #gfedchat
  • TOstgarden Feb 11 @ 10:01 PM EST
A4: I am terrible with tests but I was ready for college and actually did better in college than high school. I feel the tests and admissions don't really tell how the student is and it's just another hoop to jump through. #gfedchat
  • mrsdunnigan Feb 11 @ 10:01 PM EST
A4: My hope if we didn't need to prepare for college/standardized tests, is that we would have much more well-rounded individuals and more prepared for life in general. There would be more time to practice basic life skills and to find joy in the arts! #gfedchat
  • llring207 Feb 11 @ 10:02 PM EST
A4: Our Ss may have academic skills (college readiness) but many are not prepared with practical SEL & relationship skills. Too many Ss see grades & praise as the end game rather than learning from experiences and critique. #gfedchat
  • Johnson5Century Feb 11 @ 10:02 PM EST
A4 - I wish we could do away with standardized testing, to be honest. I don't find it to be an accurate representation of what Ss know and the amount of time we spend on Standardized testing is sad. That time could be so better spent on something else. #gfedchat
  • bryanwalls2 Feb 11 @ 10:02 PM EST
A4: Not sure we are prepare our kids for the real world. #gfedchat
  • justinjhawks Feb 11 @ 10:02 PM EST
A4- Not necessarily. Strong work ethic is required for success at life and career. Strictly knowing content will only take you so far. We need innovation, striving for excellence, bettering their community. Things we tend to not have enough time to make a priority. #gfedchat
  • jgause080 Feb 11 @ 10:02 PM EST
Q4 - You can qualify for college but not be socially ready for those responsibilities. I think perseverance is an under-valued skill. Of course, tests don't teach that! It's hard to know what changes would be best, but nothing is perfect. #gfedchat
  • pederson_mr Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A4: Its difficult to answer this, I don’t think students are prepared for college, or life. I still have no idea how to do my taxes, and took me a few years to be prepared for college by balancing life with school. #gfedchat
  • ManstromFACS Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A3: I retest and give more time for things when I can see my students struggling. I pushed back tomorrow’s lesson because my kids were lost today when we were sewing and they need more help. #gfedchat
  • MrsSlominski2 Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A4: many Ss are not fully prepared for the real world and have many lagging skills, we should move away from standardized testing and move toward teaching SEL skills and other skills Ss actually need to be able to be fully present and ready to learn in the classroom #gfedchat
  • brittameza Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A4: I understand the reason 4 testing, however looking at it from an elem. perspective, hours of testing in the same month is VERY overwhelming. As a T, I get to a point of having Ss take a guess and move on as they lose focus/patience about 15-20 minutes into the test. #gfedchat
  • AshleyStavnes Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A3. I think the more successful idea would be to re-teach, not re-test. I use re-testing for when a student didn't understand something or had a bad day. That is for their grade, not retention. Finding another way for them to grasp the concepts is for retention. #gfedchat
  • DSwangstue Feb 11 @ 10:03 PM EST
A4: Teaching to the test would be a thing of the past. Ss learn from the same materials and apply what they need to life. Relationships, social/emotional learning, and street smarts are just as valuable as book smarts. #gfedchat
