A2. Ss love listening to music. I had a newcomer a few years back that didn't want to speak during class, but he loved listening to music videos. He had so many questions about the videos. He actually learned a lot about our culture from those videos. #ellchat
  • 2014FloridaTOY Dec 10 @ 9:11 PM EST
A2: Retention of knowledge...limbic system in brain lets students connect to content, diversify the genres and culture...music transcends language, use subtitles in videos or lyrics and listening, speaking and reading all in one! and straight up FUN. #ellchat

A3 I tell teachers: When you choose songs or stories, you have to first answer “what for?” (what’s the purpose of the content?) then “What more?” (how will you follow up?) No music in isolation. if it doesn’t exist - Create it! #ELLCHAT
  • SSofronas Dec 10 @ 9:32 PM EST
A3 also very powerful to include music and arts classes into units that allow students to create their own pieces of music. I had a strong connection with music teachers as an HS Spanish teacher. #EllChat
