A slow chat intended for international educators in Africa and beyond but open to anyone who is interested of course. We chat weekly on Thursdays from August to June starting at 7am GMT and going until whenever.
Have a couple minutes to give our #DigCit student blogs feedback on the results of us Googling ourselves? Thank you! Please RT. https://t.co/KrEbQ0MtSL#AfricaEd
AR/VR Research? Here’s an example for how what kids see in movies, YouTube, and at school can become a “passion project” at home. Don’t forget the hands-on learning involved in how to properly paint walls... #AfricaEd
Looking forward to today’s slow chat! @ICSAddis@DCI_at_ICS

a1. ar/vr is definitely an emerging field. tons of potential for kids at every learning level. found this comprehensive and well-researched paper that presents diff. aspects of this field in education. lots possible for traditional classrooms.

A1: I have noticed AR/VR boosts student engagement, stimulates senses, fosters intellectual curiosity and motivates students to explore and learn independently – and it’s also great fun. This is "my research" when seeing what tech supports our students. #AfricaEd
#AfricaEd I am curious. Have you seen students demonstrate substantial change (+/-) in their mastery of core concepts as a result of this? Any examples you can think of where this has happened? Subject? Content area? Thanks.
It adds a Wow Factor, grabs students engagement, boosts interest/curiosity which then nurtures learning. And in some cases, a deeper learning. I see it as a modernise of a handout or VHS from when I was in school (👴🏼) However, it has to support learning. #AfricaEd
indeed. while appeal is evident, the impact it has on student learning is data worth gathering. Wow factors can fade (and do) with time but if the purpose of it (much like any tech) is planted deep then much more can be done to help such tech's strengths flourish! #AfricaEd
I've got the same concerns with this. I've seen lots of information about how cool it is but haven't seen a lot about how it improves learning. See a lot of consumption, want to see more creation & application. #AfricaEd

2/2 Needless to say, the opportunities for transdisciplinary are immense! Science, technology, languge, math, etc. can easily become a part of a unit!

A1: I always wonder about how this technology could impact students learning. But we have a teachers who used it in some activities and I saw how students were engaged and the learning outcome was definitely enhanced. #AfricaEd
I agree that students involvement in any AR/VR projects make has a bigger and better impact on the Ss learning. These generation are so passionate about this types of technology. We need to give them more chance to produce something that will stay with them forever. #AfricaEd
