The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.
A1: I always like to try new things or projects at the end of the year. We seem to loosen up our schedule enough that I have a little bit more time to do the “fun” stuff. #Miched
A2: I haven’t taught much in the last 3 years. I had a chance to teach a little today -student quote”you can come back anytime-that was fun” I cried a little #michED
A2: I would love to share all of the great moments students had in the new middle school computer science class with everyone in a massive Instagram post! #michED
A3: I have a ton of teachers that I celebrate every day, but one English teacher in particular that swapped out @serial podcast instead of a traditional narrative text was awesome this year! #michED
A3: picking 1 is tough. But @MrWrinkleRHS has done a fantastic job in his first year as an AP after years as a sci teaching colleague. So many great discussions & lots of work moving our sci dept fwd! #michED (Sara Rosell -Rochester HS science T)
A3: I have a colleague that has been teaching for 43 years (he was my teacher in 6th grade). I still see his car at school on the weekends preparing for the next week. I love his dedication. #miched
A2: I would want to show parents video of when their kids are helping explain math concepts to a classmate, especially when they have struggled with math in the past. #miched
A4: Couple things . 1-That I’ve shown students Math is doable, not scary, not a race & can be fun! 2-If Ss have struggled in math, I would hope I’ve helped them overcome that struggle! #miched

I’ve tried very hard this year to take out the word memorize from my vocabulary. When Ss say it, I usually have a reply about “memorizing just means you’ll probably not really understand it and forget it the second I pass out the test. Learn & understand it!” #miched
A5: @RHS_STUGO. They work day in & out to develop a positive culture in our school. Always trying new things & taking on challenges. And they never fail to make me laugh- even on the bad days! 💙 #miched
A5: I lead the only extracurricular at our school, so I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but Lakeview Chorus is a group of 70 4th graders lead the National Anthem at sporting events around the community and sing at nursing homes. I celebrate them every year! #miched
A5: Our PTO is small but mighty. They always have the students’ best interests in mind. They also put on a rocking good Teacher Appreciation Week. ;-) #miched
A5: Our counselor @leahlocker leads girls chat groups throughout the year trying to help middle schoolers navigate the social trenches. Tons of positives come out of those chats! #miched@Creekside_MS#crk1718
