A1: I think my "mic drop" moment last year had to have been presenting at #ICE18. It helped grow my confidence so much, and @_on11 and I had an awesome time doing one final show together. #122edchat
A1 Ha! @MakeThemMastrIt would love this question! My "drop mic" moment was probably our finished classroom. We changed our learning environment so students can DO things! #122edchat
A1: My "drop mic" moment happened when I shared editable graphic organizers with a group and a teacher actually shouted "Yeah!!" #122edchat#ThatIsWhyIAmHere
A1: Building relationships with some of the toughest, most unreached students in the building. Getting them to see their value, that their voice matters, and that they have the potential to have a positive impact in our school, the community, and beyond. #122edchat
A1: 2 amazing things jump to mind from last year... 1) presenting with colleagues at conferences & 2) Becoming a Google Innovator at #LAX18!
#122edchat
A1: I had a major "mic drop" moment last year when one of my kids who really struggled to engage in work joined us to work on creating number stories in FlipGrid. It was one of my favorite moments!!! #122edchat
A1: Watching my Ss prepare and put on an amazing Maker Faire! They presented projects to over 500 Students and 150 Public visitors in 4.5 hrs - it was so cool to see them take ownership of it all! #122edchat
A1 My drop mic moment was learning that the more authentic the reading experience, the more students will read! I gave independent reading time each day - hard to do with a 50 minute period. Worked well so I am continuing this again this year (3 weeks in school now) #122edchat
A1: I had a major "mic drop" moment last year when one of my kids who really struggled to engage in work joined us to work on creating number stories in FlipGrid. It was one of my favorite moments!!! #122edchat
Q1: When I had students reflect on their learning of the year and I walked by and one students response was: "Ms. Steward told me that you always need to do your best and never give up, and that is is okay to make mistakes because they help us learn" #122edchat
A1: When my students were able to create their own Google Sites to show the information they had learn. They created videos with @Screencastify, infographics with @canva, and slides to help make their sites pop. #122edchat
A1 My mic drop moment last year was some real successes with getting my students excited about writing. I was so amazed by what they could do. #sofun#122edchat
A1 my drop the mic moment was when I presented our book study using technology to teachers and they were so engaged and were asking for my app choice board I made. The engagement was so rewarding. All my extra work was valued #122edchat
A1: Sooo many mic drop moments watching my Ts grow by pushing out of their comfort zone! Prob my biggest was when our school earned STEM recognition from the state - only a VERY small percentage of schools in our state have earned it. #122edchat
A1 Last Year’s mic drop was getting a team Sports Officiating Pilot course for HS off the ground which is now extended into 3 of our HS’s this year & hopefully growing across the US #122edchat
A1: Sitting in grade level collaborative planning & hearing Ts share observations about PD I had recently conducted. Nothing like hearing “you were right,I can already see such a difference.” #122edchat
A1 my 🎤 drop moment was seeing my students connect with their #pbl friends in Argentina through @Flipgrid@MicrosoftEDU Skype, and excitement they had for their learning #122edchat
In reply to
@kristi_daws, @Flipgrid, @MicrosoftEDU
A1 My drop mic moment was learning that the more authentic the reading experience, the more students will read! I gave independent reading time each day - hard to do with a 50 minute period. Worked well so I am continuing this again this year (3 weeks in school now) #122edchat
A1 Having one of my ELs graduate, becoming a MIEE, having the FlipgridBusTour visit my school and engage with my Ss. So many awesome moments last year. Hoping for great things this year. #122edchat
A1: My drop mic moment was more recent! I found out one of my former high school students is now a colleague! I'm so proud of all of my former students!! #TimeFlies#122edchat
A1: My “mic drop”moment last year was completing our 50 state #globalcollaboration project! It was by far the greatest learning experience in all my years of teaching!! My kids were excited to meet our goal & make so many connections! #122edchat
A1 Oh! Drop Mic for MY year?! I started a blog to share ideas and resources, wrote an article about what I've learned as an educator and my vision for education, and then did a podcast episode with @cultofpedagogy! It comes out in a few days! #122edchathttps://t.co/kk9VXjBfyS
A1- My mic-drop moment was when one of my pre-service teachers decided she'd never use a clip system in her classroom. EVER. Then she thanked me. #ditchtheclips#122edchat
A1: My “mic drop”moment last year was completing our 50 state #globalcollaboration project! It was by far the greatest learning experience in all my years of teaching!! My kids were excited to meet our goal & make so many connections! #122edchat
A1 One of my mic drop moments was when a student who is a very reluctant writer used Siri to record his ideas for a Spoken Word Poem. He did an awesome poem I was mind blown #122edchat
#122edchat a1 drop mic moment was when I hosted a data night for the parents of my #kinders I shared the what, how, why etc. Data isn't good unless we do something with it
A2: Keep going. Keep pushing myself further when it comes to taking on leadership roles and putting myself out there. Applying to present at #ICE19 solo was a big step for me! #122edchat
A1. Drop mic moment last year was observing the Ss who was having issues, became the leading Ss in classroom. Pushing ahead and helping others, leading discussions, showing the way! #122edchat
A2 I think by taking some risks, putting ourselves out there, being open to changes and mixing things up a bit, And definitely giving students more opportunities to be in the lead #122edchat
A1. I taught 6th grade religious ed last year and I would have to say my mic drop moment was when a lesson of mine about awe and wonder took their breathe away. It was something students said that they will never forget! #122edchat
Q2: I am trying to allow my Ss to be more active in their learning process. May seem simple, but I started out small today with my daily procedures by letting Ss pick where to sit. They loved it. #122edchat
A1: My 🎤 ⬇️ moment last year would be much like @_on11 - making that connection, building the rapport with the tough kids. That moment your words seem to click for them! #122EdChat
A2: By constantly putting my students first to get to know them. I will continue to get to know students, build their interests in everything, and instill a growth minset into all of my students. #122edchat
A2: I cannot get caught up in the fruit of the situation. I need to take time to dig in, ask questions, listen to their responses, and evaluate what they are really saying. When Ss feel that they are seen and heard, there is nothing that they wouldn't do for you. #122edchat
A2: I plan to collaborate with even more colleagues this year for their and Ss greatness. My #GoogleEI project should launch by the summer as well!
#122edchat
#122edchat A1: The mic drop moment(s) of the year last year were when students became upset that the bell rang while we were reading our different class novels. Some of my more reluctant readers were connecting so much with the story that they did not want to leave!
A2 Dropped mic on authentic reading program last year so got bigger mic to drop this year! More books, more reading challenges, more creative ways for kids to share great reads with peers. Brought in @Flipgrid for kids to share book recs among classes/grade levels too. #122edchat
A2: This year the plan is to fearlessly use technology with my kinders (one of my colleagues today said "Heather uses a lot of tech in her room"). When I try new things, I engage my kids in new ways. #122edchat
A2 I think by taking some risks, putting ourselves out there, being open to changes and mixing things up a bit, And definitely giving students more opportunities to be in the lead #122edchat
A1: Another moment was when I interviewed students about thier independent reading practices and was able to inspect my expectations as a curr sup #122edchat
A2: Continue to share best practices, model for Ts then let them take over. Allow the believers to share with the naysayers- when they see/hear how successful their Ss are, they’ll be more convinced & willing to try. #122edchat
A1 🎤👇🏼 moment was when one of my my toughest students wrote me a letter thanking me for being patient with him and “never ever getting mad at his mistakes” 💜 #122EdChat#BeTheOne
A1 My mic drop moment was realizing the power Twitter had in changing my EDU game, and following the rabbit holes! I started my blog, led my first inservice and hosted 2 chats! I can't wait to see what happens this year. #122edchat
A2 this year the DLC, another teacher, and I are putting on tech PDs that our run like edcamps and focused on what teachers want to learn about. I can’t wait to see all the engagement. If the teachers are learning then so are the students #122edchat
By really knowing your Ss and their individual (sometimes extremely demanding) needs. The only reason we made so much growth was the relationship and patience poured into that student. If we didn't try EVERY SINGLE DAY, that same achievement would not have happened.
#122edchat
A1: A new student had a very challenging start to the year. She won perfect attendance award for Sept. and was awesome the rest of the year. We created most improved award for her at end of year. She had 99.7% chance of NOT being Advanced on state test but got it. #122EdChat
A2 I have been thinking of many different ways to hopefully inspire my students to be better writers starting by building some confidence through choice and writing conferences. #122edchat
A2: Continue to share best practices, model for Ts then let them take over. Allow the believers to share with the naysayers- when they see/hear how successful their Ss are, they’ll be more convinced & willing to try. #122edchat
A2: Expanding on my #globalcollaboration journey & taking the connections to new levels! Our 1st of the year is tomorrow!! Can’t wait to establish relationships & connect w/ classes all over the 🌎! #122edchat
A2: This year I will continue towards a mic drop when I interview students and get their perspective on curriculum & instruction #studentvoice#LetThemSpeak#122edchat
A1) my drop mic moment last year was when a teacher who is typically resistant and reacts with fear with anything new...sent me the most amazing email letting me know I’ve earned her trust 🤗 #122edchat
Oh no.....I literally feel your pain though! Got MRI results today saying I have a pretty gnarly stress fracture in my knee. Have to go see an ortho next.... booooo. #122edchat
A3 We started a great writing assignment and didn't return to it though we had planned on making it a beautifully personal piece. We had to fit things into our schedule and we didn't make it happen. Not 18-19 though! It's happening! #122edchat
#122edchat A2: By getting to know my students and their interests, I need to keep finding books that are relevant and are appealing. I was able to find a bunch of new options through #ProjectLITbookclub this summer. I cannot wait to here what my students think of these books!
A3: One "oops" moment I had last year was letting a student slip under the radar when she needed me most. Luckily, I was able to remedy the situation and we ended the year with a stronger bond than ever. #122edchat
A3: I pride myself on being able to build relationships and connect with Ss. My oops is not being able to connect with a group of my freshmen last year. I think I tried everything, but apparently not. #122edchat
A2: I hope to bring about real change by helping new teachers forge a path to success in the classroom. Having an educator say that I made a difference will be my Drop Mic Moment! #122edchat
A2: By making time to model forgiveness to students. When they make a mistake, I make sure to explain that it will not be held against them by their teacher or peers. We discuss, forgive, and move on! #122EdChat
He's actually doing quite well this year too.
I tried to keep the same routine (where possible) and same expectations.
So far it is working. 🤞
#122edchat
A1: making connections btw Ss and books! I love figuring out what interests my kids, feeding them #goodreads, & them coming to see me over and over for more book recs! #122edchat#punkrocklibrarian
A2 it’s also about supporting, encouraging & coaching our colleagues to help them find their mic drop moments throughout the year & celebrating them!!! #122edchat
A3: I am a typical guy. I hear what people say, but sometimes actually listening to what they are not saying is elusive. I am a Type-A, hard-driving person, that is always in motion. I put my own vision ahead of others, and sometimes relationships at school took a hit. #122edchat
A3: An oops would be letting time get away from me skewing the balance far towards the work side. Hoping for a better balance this year and some unconnected relaxation.
#122edchat
A2. Building relationships with Ss. Working 1:1 with them on projects and homework. Encouraging Ss to take the lead, take risks, try new things, challenge themselves, set goals! #122edchat
A2: to start believing the truths my tribe speaks of me! That I am innovating & should be proud. That I do have a right to stand up & speak out. To run after goals instead of hide to make others feel more comfortable! I’m getting after #globaleducation in 2018! #122EdChat
A2: These activities worked because it allowed ss to work in small groups rather than listen to me talk in a while group. I collected data comparing whole group vs small group student- teacher interaction. Amazing results!!! #122edchat
A3: My opps was that I sent out a google form and it has number responses instead of paragraph form. People were happy that even though I was so "techy" I still make mistakes. #122edchat
Q3: I have had many. One of my class mottos when a mishap occurs is, “it’s cool!” My assistants and I now use their motto daily to better our classroom. #122edchat
A3 Definitely more than one oops! I think I did not spend enough time out of my office and in classrooms. It is easy to get stuck when there are a million things coming at you, but it is so much more fun to be out and about. #122edchat
A3 One oops from last year was waiting too long to have my students decide on their reading choices in @Newsela. Once I allowed the students to pick their engagement increased tremendously. I won't make that mistake again. #122edchat
A3 I let the "squeeky wheels" in my class monopolize my time, and some of my quieter kids fell through the cracks. I am hoping all my edtech tools and more conferecing will prevent that this year! #122edchat
A3: A general, overall oops was worrying about what people thought when they walked into my room. I had a lot of kids struggling with social-emotional/behavioral issues and I worried about being labeled and judged. #122edchat
A2: making a point to TALK to my Ss, read all the books, do book talks 1-1 or with classes, stay up to date w/ up and coming book related events, get involved with what’s going on with the Ss & Ts! #122edchat#punkrocklibrarian
#122edchat A1 Drop mic moment when one of my "difficult" students wanted to run spelling sessions aka "Captain of Spelling". Some of the things i find dull ss love and they learn, is a win, win (and put my ego on hold)
#languagematters#students be boss matters
A3: Letting my classroom game fizzle out towards the end of the year. I should have stepped up sooner and changed/add a couple of things to keep the momentum going. By the time I did, we only had a month of school to go and though it was OK it could have been great. #122edchat
Not starting my Twitter account sooner!
Now I am addicted to ed chats like this one, obsessed with making ideas off of Pinterest and geeking out about teaching.
Where has this been all my life?!?!?
#122edchat
A3 So I have this "friend" who started a more authentic reading program by giving kids choice in books to read and in class time to read...but who may not have taught grammar much or at all last year... She feels guilty about not doing it all but now teaches it too #122edchat
A3: Hmmmm! Which one do I pick?? I’ve realized that I have to have time to stop and reflect. My oops was not thinking before reacting! I will work on this very hard this year! #122edchat
A3: Allowing a Ts negativity impact a planning in such a way that rest of the team then began focusing on reasons why Ss couldn’t rather than figuring out ways to make sure our Ss could. I wish I’d stopped the meeting, taken a break & come back with a fresh mindset. #122edchat
A3 Everyday I’m learning in my new role from central administration to campus administration this year, so for me there are a lot of “1st” which don’t always go as planned but I reflect, adapt and work on the craft #122edchat
A4 I took the input from my students on the last day. They got to edit our entire year, keep, toss, change things. I'm going to incorporate those great ideas so I make sure we get to the best, most useful & meaningful stuff! #122edchat
A3 My oops was a difficult student. I tried many strategies to connect, inconsistent relationship. Then I tried something that he was passionate about outside of school. That worked 😀 #122edchat
A3: I am too busy at times & while I AM listening its crappy to be typing (or other busy work) and listening - it’s rude too 😳🙈 I need to be a better active listener and not a rude distracted listener. It would hurt my feelings yet I don’t always catch myself 🤦♀️ #122EdChat
#122edchat a2 Ask your students what they bring to the table? Are they swimmers, singers, silly so and sos? Then they all bring elements of that to the table. Some bring the table, let's face it #deafed
Had a similar one a couple of years ago, when I moved from laptops to chromebooks. Did not necesarily get discouraged, but should have anticipated so as not to lose time. #122edchat
The lying media #fakenews never shows the Trump rally crowds. Lies about the polls it creates, lied about the election. But we knew better. America is for Trump. #UntoldPositiveTrumpNews#122edchat Sarah Sanders
A4: That moment helped me to quickly remember how important it is to see beyond our students' outside appearances & ask the hard questions when we think there is something else going on. #122edchat
I wish our library had book displays based on themes or genres...something to really appeal to the eye, and then to the mind and heart to draw readers in... #122edchat
A1) our collective mic drop was when our science department held a film festival for the 7th grade. Had 250 kids in the cafeteria, red carpet, etc. #122edchat#teambcsd
A2 I'm in a different role this year, a new role for the district actually. My goal is to develop 6 culturally relevant teaching model classrooms through partnership with the teachers #122edchat
A4: By making sure it is a learning experiences. We all make mistakes, what defines our mistakes is what they teach us. I love learning from the mistakes I make! #122edchat
A4: I need to do a better job of reading indirect cues. I am good at catching on to what Ss are not saying, but adults, not always great. My goal this year is to be more aware of "baggage" other staff members are carrying and offer to help rather than hinder. #122edchat
🙌 Knowing when to say NO is SO important. Stretching yourself too thin doesn’t do anyone any good. Mental health and sanity are so important. #122edchat
So true... I'll already caught myself saying yes when I shouldn't have... Triple booked at one point this week. Definitely a work in progress. #122edchat
A3 There are always mistakes I can fix. If you’re not making a mistake your not learning. Same thing I tell the kids. It’s ok to make the mistake just learn from it. #122edchat
#122edchat a3 Always have a Plan B. Students don't show on presentation day. Have back up players. Be away sick, have a student to do assessment! It happens, these OOPS of life.
A3: Towards the middle of the year, I was affected by the negativity. I wanted to switch school districts. But then I realized I’m old and nobody would want me... 😂😂 besides, I’d eat all ththe chocolate cake in the faculty room.... again..... 🤣🤣#122edchat
I found something like this around Easter time. I gave each student a sand dollar (I only had 9 students) and read a story illustrating each part. The students saw/felt each part and loved breaking it to see the ‘birds’ inside. It was a moment I’ll never forget :) #122edchat
#122edchat A3: Steve from Beijing, China here. I think we as teachers often doubt instincts too much &need to advocate for the freedom to try innovative practices with failure as an option. I find even in the richest inquiry/PBL that students/teachers thrive when comfy w failure
A2) we can make our mic drop film festival happen again by collaborating as adults, creating the space for our children, and just having fun. #122edchat
Our team is on fire this year. So proud of each and every one of them. We have had two meetings this week and each time I am stunned by the ownership of the space from each science teacher! So PROUD! This year is going to be GREAT! #122edchat
In reply to
@Stella_Pollard, @Screencastify, @canva, @JamesHeniff, @Science_Purple, @brooksscistem, @DBlabas
A4 it’s about asking for feedback, being open to constructive criticism, learning from your PLN, & then being bold to try it again making your tweaks & adjustments, it’s a process but one must always reflect & question how can I make it better #122edchat
A4 i make it a point to try everything on the student side and have patience. Kids will eventually figure it out i can't let them off the hook #122edchat
A4: One of my colleagues at the end of the year said that if I can get them strong in their social-emotional skills, she can catch them up academically. I'm still teaching academics, but making sure those "people skills" are there...no worries about judgement #122edchat
It's so hard to say no! I'm already booked until the end of September. Wish I could clone myself - will be making LOTS of videos this year! HAHAHA! #122edchat
A3: I’m sure I had many, mostly jumping the gun on things and stepping on toes inadvertently. I get really excited and tend to rush into things. I know this about myself, at least. 😬 #122edchat#punkrocklibrarian
A4 To fix my oops I am going to schedule classroom visit time into my calendar each day and make sure I am in all the classrooms every few days. #122edchat
This is a major issue that so many Ts face. Stop the meeting, stop the negativity, and address it in a positive way. I vowed last year I wouldn't just nod my head & smile anymore. I WILL address & redirect the negativity. #122edchat
A4: Learn from mistakes and realize you can’t do it all! Take a step back and rethink perspectives and strategies. #122edchat If it doesn’t happen one way...try another!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
A4: This year, my goal is to be more determined. I can’t & won’t give up. Ss & Ts deserve to have someone who’ll be relentless about providing support so everyone achieves goals. I’ll help people focus on the positive & not allow toxic attitudes to infect the team #122edchat
A4: write it everywhere I’d get distracted and push myself to be a better active listener! Build relationships, ask questions, evaluate what is important in the moment #122edchat
#122edchat A3: Some students are harder to connect with than others. Never quite finding the connection that the student needed. Fortunately, there were others in the building that were able to make a connection.
A4 By taking time at the start of this year to strategically plan the use of tech this year! Currently using @ProdigyGame@Flipgrid@GetKahoot and trying @AdobeSpark **Any suggestions for 2nd graders? ☺️ #122EdChat
During 40 years in education I sure made plenty but I always tried my best for students and did, "Whatever it takes" - perhaps too often pushing the envelope of what was "safe" but "safe" wasn't going to help take education where it needs to go. #122edchat
A5: Don't let anyone discourage you from teaching the way YOU believe is best for your students. Stay true to who you are & who your students need you to be. Find your tribe. #122edchat
A5 True! Several already are in their credential programs!
My Teacher Advice:
Figure out your top 2 or 3 overarching goals for your students and put ALL of your teacher time and energy into them. Each of those goals is possible; don't accept any limitations! #122edchat
A5: Said this today to a bunch of 6th Graders, "Find the fun(s) in everything you do." If we keep the "wins" with in sight, at all times, it's hard to be negative. All about perspective. We have so much power, prestige, and privilege in this role. How will we use it? #122edchat
A1: My moment was really OUR mic drop when @Flipgrid picked our school to visit in celebration of student voice! I spread #FlipgridFever in my school & every student 1st-4th did FG & shared their voice! #122edchat
I feel that pain. I get excited about what "we are going to do" and often rush what we are doing because the next thing is new to me. My "I want to try this out now" mentality. Being able to step back and take my time one of my major goals. #122edchat
Q5: One of my favorite sayings, “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” And, coffee can make everything better. #122edchat
Craig from PA. Sorry I’m so late. I love the Qs. Here is Q4 - I think if our hearts are in the right place and we put kids first the changes are much easier to accomplish. #122edchat
Had the same discussion today with our team. We each have a variety of tools to use...we need to stop relying on the hammer all the time. Trying to get kids to see the other tools in the tool box. #122edchat
Do you agree that open conversations with students about a graphic, like this one, would go quite a way in helping them understand .... it is all about learning. #122edchat
A5: Dream big and believe with all your heart both in yourself and those around you. Teaching is like being able to touch the future, every day.
#122edchat
Bonus: Surround yourself with awesome. You are the average of the 5 people you are closest to... there is no place for negativity in education. #122edchat
A3. An ‘oops’ I had was letting time get the best of me and focusing on getting through content rather than making sure students truly get the content. #122edchat
A3. My oops, we give several chances in behavior, work with Ss clean slate each day, when we have to have a talk about inappropriate behavior. Home vs. school? Where it's allowed and not allowed! It's a parent's choice to take a child out of an activity. #122edchat
A4 My "friend" is now giving reading time and teaching grammar thru @jcorippo & @mhebern 8 Parts Grammar via the book #EduProtocols. The kids dig reading and "grammar'ing" and my "friend" feels like she is doing right by students and standards again. #122edchat
Start with relationships first and keep working on ways to connect with all students, not just those in your classroom, Share your knowledge and excitement for learning #122edchat
Next week, we're back at it again with ANOTHER #4OCFPLN member...@mr_middle_2! You don't want to miss this discussion. Mark your calendars now >>> August 29th at 7 Central! E-mail a friend, call your parents, Snapchat your spouse...just don't miss @mr_middle_2 and #122edchat!
A4 I took the input from my students on the last day. They got to edit our entire year, keep, toss, change things. I'm going to incorporate those great ideas so I make sure we get to the best, most useful & meaningful stuff! #122edchat
A4: being more thoughtful in how I plan and go about implementing my ideas. Discuss w/ colleagues and get feedback to see how I/we can get my idea rolling. basically, not rushing into anything. #122edchat#punkrocklibrarian
@kristi_daws sorry to cut out early but gotta grab dinner while both of the little ones are out for the count, will try & catch the other questions later this evening, thanks for hosting some great ?’s #122edchat
We've been building our tribe. It's so exciting to see the positive changes & how many Ts no longer get discouraged - they go find support instead. #122edchat
Always keep the child the center of everything you do in the classroom. Love those babies with all your heart when they’re at their best and worst #122edchat
Bonus: Teaching is like sky diving...when you first start it can be thrilling and scary as you are free falling, things seem too fast...then you pull the rip cord and your parachute opens and you slow down, so you get to enjoy the ride and view #122edchat
Bonus - You will shape the world. You’ll make the lives of kids better each day. The impact on students can make their life better. Make sure you love kids and teaching. #122edchat
Why wait until next Wednesday for #122edchat? Take us along with you throughout the week! Share your encouragements, blog posts, success stories, podcasts, burning questions and all of your adventures w/the #122edchat community. #tlap#kidsdeserveit#betheone#LeadLAP#LearnLAP
Bonus: Find the positive people who will support & challenge you, remind you of the good times & help you reflect on the not so good times, tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear, will be honest but compassionate, willing to step up or step back #122edchat
Imagine walking into class on Monday with a new and effective approach to teaching.
And imagine having a bunch of strategies to go along with that approach.
Now imagine being able to do it all for $4.49.
Boom!
https://t.co/LNqVjmrL2Y#edchat#122edchat#elachat#teaching
You are so right. I started this year using Identity Webs a la #BeingTheChange by @SaraKAhmed We will add to these over time as we explore driving Qs in social studies and ELA: Who are we? Who were we? Who will we be? #122edchat
Same here! #GameChanger for sure. My non-twitter colleagues ask for things/ideas and I tweet their requests for help and within minutes I have a variety of choices and resources for them. So silly not to connect. #122edchat
This is how I start each unit in my Modern US History.
Kind of a KWL, but in their language.
What are you tired of hearing about?
What would you like to know more about?
What are you curious about?
Then that's what we do/learn.

Bonus: it’s the hardest, most rewarding profession! There will be ups and downs, but the UPs far outweigh the downs. Stay positive and make every minute matter! #122edchat#punkrocklibrarian
Bonus: I have had former students become teachers. One started working in my department last year. The advice I gave her was to spend more time on getting to know her students and not to worry too much about the curriculum in the beginning of the year. It will come. #122edchat
When I get those answers/resources on Twitter I email them the actual tweet. I want them to get to the source and see it's not an evil place. #122edchat
A3: Too many of them! I was new to one of the programs I taught. I needed to believe in myself more & in my choices. I wasn't balancing my time between work & home & it showed. #122edchat
Love reading all these bonus question answers. If I could print them all out and hang them on my wall for encouragement, I would! Thank you for another inspiring chat! :) #122edchat
#122edchat Bonus. Start looking for my back up plan. What do I do when tech fails, the mic breaks and everyone is sick in the class? Put that in the back of your brain pan #teacherlife of the future.
When I tell colleagues how much I love
and use Twitter, they freeze up...they think of Trump... I go to great lengths to explain how different, positive, constructive, and helpful the edu-twitter community is. #122edchat

A4: I need to plan better & set realistic goals & deadlines & then stick to whatever is decided. I need to make sure I take real breaks from doing work once I'm home so I can be as good of a wife & mom as I am a teacher. #122edchat
Same here! When I discovered two former students that I taught in Kindergarten were teachers, I had mixed emotions... proud of them for sure but also couldn’t believe how old I was! #122EdChat
It's why I love going to conferences. I get to see my Twitter friends. Basically everything we tell our children NOT to do. Meet people online, get on an airplane and meet them across the country. I've built some great friendships this way. #122edchat
Filling silence with an unnecessary solution. It’s not my job to solve every problem or to know every answer. Often the arrogance this creates erodes any wisdom that may follow. #122edchat
Bonus: You do you! Do not try to emulate someone else's teaching style.Take the 1st few years to find yourself & your style. Try different grade levels & subjects. Read up, observe, and be observed. Feedback is key. And always know I am here for you! #122edchat#newteacherjourney
Bonus: Relationships first, create experiences not lessons, work with your students as a team with them making decisions about their learning, find your tribe, take chances! #122edchat
Ok friends! I am teaching a group of 6-8 middle schoolers and need to inventory what they know and what they want to learn? Anyone have a good survey for me?
Indeed. I find the edu-twitter community always positive and all about #SharingIsCaring Sometimes we have to look farther away than our own teams and sites... When it's about our students...get 'er done any way you can! #122edchat

A1: my drop the mic moment was saying "forget following what the other SPED teachers do" and blazing my own path for what is best for my A's. #122EdChat
