A1: ALL teachers are leaders!!! As an administrator... I trust, respect, and admire teachers. They are the real backbone of any successful school. To every teacher out there... THANK YOU!!! #SatChat
A1: I see 3 types of TL.
1. Helps implement district initiatives.
2. Innovates and leads through modeling
3. Quietly demonstrates great teaching and student focus 1:1 with other teachers. #satchat
Maureen, 5th grade teacher from MA, weighing in--our approach to creating more leadership/teaching teams has given educators greater voice and leadership--this has been a powerful step in the right direction. #satchat
A1: Teacher leaders have several important roles.. they are a crucial interface between instructional staff and administration.. they model excellence for their departments and mentor new teachers. #satchat
#TeacherLeaders are the ones who share new strategies with everyone, the one you can go to for assistance with a technique or new tech. They are a sounding board for ideas and classroom issues. They help out admin. and so much more. #satchat
A1: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of the learning organization and need to be empowered to make decisions, solve problems, advocate for children and the profession. Every teacher is a leader! #satchat
A1: Teacher leaders don’t necessarily have a title and stipend. I often get more ideas and growth from Ts in the building who lead from the back. Bottom up approach is almost always better IMHO #satchat
A1: T leaders can play a valuable role from T induction to providing turnkey training to involvement in decision making and initiatives. T leaders can provide a different perspective and influence from a role that can often positively impact others #satchat
So rather than lots of individual teachers rising, teams are rising w/leadership--together we lead Ss, team w/families/admin, forward policy, projects that matter. I think this may be the key to transforming schools. #satchat
A1 Teacher Leaders have a bias toward action. They invest (time, energy & money) in their own learning, they listen to colleagues and serve as mirror for the potential have others and might not yet recognize #satchat
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES
A1: Teacher Leaders are team players that support colleagues in a variety of ways. Together we work smarter, not harder. Student Success is the goal. #satchat
A1 I think the key is that they are making an impact beyond their classroom. They could be setting an example for other teachers to follow, bringing new tech to the school, or contributing decision making. But they need to take steps to bring their innovations to others. #satchat
A1: Teacher leaders have several important roles.. they are a crucial interface between instructional staff and administration.. they model excellence for their departments and mentor new teachers. #satchat
#satchat
A1: The most respected teacher leaders I have known are visible, supportive, caring, knowledgeable, connected, and understand the importance of relationships. It's all about relationships.
A1 - well, to lead... to be someone who looks up and out beyond the things that are only of concern to them. They have a passion to see potential released in others #Satchat
A1: I try to be a teacher leader by leading by example, acting as a mentor for younger teachers, sharing ideas and resources and taking risks and trying new strategies in the CR. #satchat
@MsJWhiting
A1 Teacher Leaders have a bias toward action. They invest (time, energy & money) in their own learning, they listen to colleagues and serve as mirror for the potential others have and might not yet recognize #satchat
A1: Teacher leaders don’t need a title to make their work effective. Everyone has unique skill sets and talents that others need. To me a teacher leader is one who helps to shape the school culture in such a way that it results in a positive way for students. #satchat
Maureen, 5th grade teacher from MA, weighing in--our approach to creating more leadership/teaching teams has given educators greater voice and leadership--this has been a powerful step in the right direction. #satchat
Good morning! Kelli, elementary principal from #wearehtsd in NJ. First week of school! Probably wouldn't be awake except my rabbit at my son's headphone cords... :/ at least I didn't miss #satchat
A1: TL in our district drive the vision of the district and building. Our TLs are enthusiastic and driven about trying new things and willing to help others in their learning journey as well. #satchat
A1: ALL teachers are leaders!!! As an administrator... I trust, respect, and admire teachers. They are the real backbone of any successful school. To every teacher out there... THANK YOU!!! #SatChat
When leadership grows via teams, we are able to give every teacher a leadership role--I think this is critical in school culture, it's more of a natural leadership approach--a "living systems" approach which is very positive. #satchat

A1: Teacher leaders build the capacity of the school daily by being at the top of their game, coaching peers, sharing out policy changes with staff, connecting with the PTSA & spearheading committees to improve student learning. #satchat
A1: I see 3 types of TL.
1. Helps implement district initiatives.
2. Innovates and leads through modeling
3. Quietly demonstrates great teaching and student focus 1:1 with other teachers. #satchat
A1: A teacher leader is a positive force for Ss & other Ts. He/she subscribes to the belief that all Ss can learn, is passionate, innovative & supportive. A TL is willing to share & mentor others happily! #Satchat
A1) I see the role of teacher leaders as contributing to the mission and vision, providing feedback and input, and joining in and helping out the school community. #satchat
A1 Teacher leaders are positive role models for others. They model problem solving, appreciate multiple perspectives, share ideas and try new things. #satchat
A1: A teacher leader should take on the responsibility of mentoring Staff in the school or district in whatever they are passionate about, whatever is their strength - they should be a supporter, a risk taker, an advocate #satchat
"Initially I held out hope that we could find some compromise here; that we could make an uneasy peace, that despite our differences of opinion we could forge some tenuous truce moving forward.
That was a long time ago."
#SaturdayMorning#SatChathttps://t.co/9HhBdcT3vT
A1: T leaders have the mindset that every S deserves a champion! They see the potential in each S and T, and support them in anyway possible. They’re flexible, adaptable, and willing to learn. Always looking to improve. #satchat
Good morning! Kelli, elementary principal from #wearehtsd in NJ. First week of school! Probably wouldn't be awake except my rabbit at my son's headphone cords... :/ at least I didn't miss #satchat
A1: As a previous instructional coach I see teacher leaders/coaches as the most effective way to create change in a school. Teachers leaders are the link between the idea and the classroom. #satchat
Hi Scott, Thanks for your amazing leadership and dedication to educators--your team has been such a positive source of learning, collegiality, and growth for educators. #appreciate#satchat
A1: Teacher leaders have several important roles.. they are a crucial interface between instructional staff and administration.. they model excellence for their departments and mentor new teachers. #satchat
@MsJWhiting
A1 Teacher Leaders have a bias toward action. They invest (time, energy & money) in their own learning, they listen to colleagues and serve as mirror for the potential others have and might not yet recognize #satchat
So true. #TeacherLeaders are not always a department chair or grade level leader. Lots of times they are simply doing amazing things in their own classrooms and need a nudge to step into a leadership role. #satchat
A1: Teacher leaders don’t need a title to make their work effective. Everyone has unique skill sets and talents that others need. To me a teacher leader is one who helps to shape the school culture in such a way that it results in a positive way for students. #satchat
A1: Our teacher leaders first and foremost do an outstanding job of connecting with kids. They also make learning relevant and tell their classroom stories with social media. Teacher leaders model to others what it means to promote the success of students. #Satchat
A1 I see the teacher leader as an accessible resource for other teachers in our district. They are able to help drive change as colleagues in a collaborative way. They bring expertise to others in a very comfortable way. #satchat
A1: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of the learning organization and need to be empowered to make decisions, solve problems, advocate for children and the profession. Every teacher is a leader! #satchat
I wrote my forthcoming book, 'Hope and Other Superpowers' to help good people keep going.
I know a book can't change the world, but I hope it will encourage you while you change it.

A1: Simple...you learn something new, great, or powerful...you share it w/ as many other educators as possible. So many of my @NBFelem are teacher leaders! #satchat#knownova
So rather than lots of individual teachers rising, teams are rising w/leadership--together we lead Ss, team w/families/admin, forward policy, projects that matter. I think this may be the key to transforming schools. #satchat
A1 - the more leaders in the school (teachers, faculty/staff, students) the stronger the school- our job as admin is to provide opportunities for ALL to take on leadership roles & listen & act on good ideas. #satchat
#SatChat TLs may have the influence that administrators do not. Because they are in the trenches, they can influence their peers more--hopefully in a positive and productive way.
Remember: Teacher leaders are not pseudo administrators given paperwork to complete. You will lose your true leaders when you put them on desk duty. #satchat
One critical aspect of teacher leadership is that leaders need to have time w/students--when leaders are too removed from teaching children, the leadership impact, wisdom wanes. #satchat
TL are those who inspire others to live the vision of the school, facilitate the growth of others & go above and beyond the title of classroom teacher! They mentor, coach, assist and empower others! #satchat 😊
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES
A1 They have the ability to share what is and isn't working with their students, while giving others the opportunity to buy in or to take a chance with those ideas respectively. #satchat
#satchat#saturdaymorning So much is going on in the world and it's still early September. This is my birthday month and all kinds of fighting, death threats, deaths, political fallouts, protests, burnings, etc. Damn...it has to get better! #Virgo#virgonation#amjoy#TheNun
A1. I think all teachers are leaders. It's about keeping kids the focus..the priority...working together, with different skill sets = Student Learning #satchat
GM #satchat! I'm an evangelist for excellent curriculum.
I mean, nothing empowers great teaching better... allowing T's to use their valuable time being leaders in other ways!
I lead strategy work at @OpenUpResources, the nonprofit provider of free, top-rated curriculum.
Yet, in leadership teams, when young new teachers are sharing their enthusiasm, outlook with seasoned teachers--we have true leadership. I've been reading about the power of "hubs of energy and matter" -those goldilock, threshold times of powerful synergy. . .#powerful#satchat
A1: teacher leaders are key in establishing and promoting the culture of the building and district—they model and carry out the beliefs/behaviors, reflect and ask tough questions #satchat
A1: I have to depend on my teacher leaders daily. Since I am the only admin onsite it’s essential. The key to our success is coaching & trust. They have to be willing to try & I have to create a culture where they are comfortable doing so with a coaching feedback loop. #satchat
A1: I see T leaders as being go to ppl for classroom tools, institutional strategies, along with handling difficult situations such as drafting a parent email or struggles as a new teacher/new content. Team player extraordinaire! #satchat
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES

A1. Teacher leaders dive-in and help support issues and solve problems even when they aren’t their own issues or problems. “That’s not my job” is not part of their vocabulary. #Satchat
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES
#satchat Yes! TLs are not admins. Do not give them tasks that only admins should do. It's not the same job. PLUS, not all TLs aspire to be admin. They may want to continue to thrive where they are!
A2: Trust, Trust Trust! Instructional staff should feel safe to take the risks necessary to keep improving their practice. Teacher leaders should have their boots on the ground everyday in order to build this trust and establish genuine relationships with staff #satchat
Yes love, you like cake. And you make other people who like cake feel better. We get it. The older you is weeping softly, off camera. https://t.co/aWreeAB51h
#satchat A1: More often than not, the best and most systemic innovations come from passionate Teacher Leaders. This is why I green light just about everything.
A2: Have them practice the strategy/skill with others and reflect on how it could be used and how it could be helpful. Help them to see it themselves, not just tell them with data. #satchat#TeacherLeaders
So true! But teacher leaders in your building rise to a position of peer respect because of their highly effective nature in many areas. They often see the bigger picture outside of their classrooms. #satchat
A1 Not trying to be an adversary, but beginning to believe that our view of "teacher leadership" when hierarchical is misguided suggesting that good knowledge belongs to some, not others--I think the best direction is a direction where all have leadership roles/voice. #satchat
#satchat Yes! TLs are not admins. Do not give them tasks that only admins should do. It's not the same job. PLUS, not all TLs aspire to be admin. They may want to continue to thrive where they are!
A2: TRUST and RESPECT!!! Teachers were hired to teach. We have to TRUST teachers and allow them to teach. It sounds easy, but it is true. Also, we need to RESPECT the individual talents and strengths of every teacher! #satchat#TeachersRule
A1: Teacher & staff leaders are vital to support school priority and focus areas. They lead, teach, guide, facilitate and promote them. Without them, it would be extremely difficult to move forward in making a difference.
A1. A teacher leader can assume many roles. As a former principal, i evaluated their strengths and use some as teacher mentors, facilitator of PLCs, data captains for their content and/or grade level. Here is a useful resource #satchat#hacklearninghttps://t.co/jVlHyJ0423
A1. Teacher leaders are risk takers... it’s had to be vulnerable and see your own value. Teacher leaders push past the doubt and share a part of themselves with colleagues to enrich their community. #Satchat
A2 It’s challenging to get teachers to move away from something they’ve been doing for years. I think the best way is to lead by example - doing something new and demonstrating its positive impact, inviting others into your classroom. #satchat
A2: Getting others to accept help from T leaders is a matter of establishing a culture where leadership comes from more than admins. Encouraging T leaders to establish relationships with other staff members that would allow them to have that kind of influence helps too. #satchat
Yes, but does "lifting" suggest some are more powerful than others--should we be taking a greater "living systems" team approach to leadership--where we are looking more at circles of effect rather than hierarchical models. Playing w/these ideas this morning. #satchat
In our building every issue is everyone’s issue. We are a team, we support each other and we jump in when needed. The capacity we have as a team working towards a common goal is much greater than working alone. #satchat
A1: T leaders in my district are great at giving support in the classrooms and always showing that they are learning new things alongside the rest of the staff. #teamwork#satchat
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES
A2: intentional actions that build relationships of trust are the foundation for conversations and feedback that result in change and improvement #satchat
A2: It's all about setting up the culture that we are all learning together- no matter what our role. I learned this early on in my career from my former admin @MSD_Caputo -He reminded me we are all on the same team doing what is best for kids #satchat#WO2World
A2 We can't lose sight of the importance of fun. Passion and interest are keys to learning, and fun is a key to learning together and trying something new and even risky https://t.co/sBDMyzBETL#satchat
A2: Action begins with beliefs. Believing is seeing. I highlight the innovative actions of teachers through the impact it has on students. Often students speak to their experience and I invite teachers to observe peers so that the beliefs about what can be spur action. #satchat
A2: By setting up the space to do it. This year our SI is centered around learning something new that will impact kids in a EdCamp style environment. Safe space to take risks. #satchat
Pretty well myself. I have a new co-teacher who is fantastic and am teaching Accelerated Ss this year, too. I am hoping Florence takes a turn as well. #satchat
A2: We do this by going first and modeling the type of behavior in ourselves that we wish to see from others. If we don't do this, asking others to leave their comfort zone can feel authoritarian and inauthentic. #satchat
Good Morning #satchat!!! Join us Wednesday, September 19th at 9:00pm for #MoonshotsEdu!!! We need more Moonshot leaders!!! Ss have so much untapped potential to develop new ideas & those ideas could lead to a cure for cancer or innovative approaches to celebrate diversity!!!
A2: I think there are several components-providing tools, coaching, and influencing policy changes. It’s time we stop thinking of PD in the terms of what has always been done. There are so many new and effective ways for teachers to learn and lead! #satchat
A2: Having trust in TL's is vital. Giving TL's opportunities to lead discussions during team meetings, during staff meetings, and model instruction for others to see #SatChat
A2: It’s about building relationships, just like we do with students. Colleagues need those same assurances to be able to hear and use constructive feedback. #satchat
A2: the school culture must allow teachers to take risks-feel comfortable and confident in their decisions also when teachers who model the risks are successful others will follow #satchat
A2 It starts with giving them a platform. Most schools have so many district mandates that we spend our extra "meeting" times on, instead of allowing organic leadership to flow out of that time. Let teachers have quality time together to grow. The leaders will step up. #satchat
A2: The first step in helping other educators see what is possible is to share. Once educators come out of isolation and form a network of support by sharing methods and resources risk-taking will happen. Teacher leaders understand the importance of sharing and support #satchat
A2: This is where admin is needed for support. If admin shows enthusiasm and support for risk taking teachers, others in the building pick up on that and are more likely to try new things. #satchat
A2: This speaks (sadly) of our state of professionalism. Not an issue for those acting as professionals, not sure how to fix for those who do not.#satchat
A1: Teacher leaders are so important to building a culture of excellence w/in a school. They have the ability to shape informal conversations which are crucial to a school’s culture & climate. In my school the Teacher Leaders also lead & facilitate common planning time. #satchat
A2) getting others to step out of their comfort zone and start trying things can happen if their is a common understanding of what and why we are doing it, a common understanding and supportive environment. #satchat
Yes! I love the iea of living systems or learning organizations. However, it has to start somewhere. Often, that begins with a few brave leaders who start a movement. Then, as you build capacity / shared understanding you all grow. #satchat
Yes, but does "lifting" suggest some are more powerful than others--should we be taking a greater "living systems" team approach to leadership--where we are looking more at circles of effect rather than hierarchical models. Playing w/these ideas this morning. #satchat
Q1: #satchat
Q1: Teacher Leaders can have many roles and responsibilities. How do you see the role of a teacher leader in your school or district? #satchat Article resource: https://t.co/A8dvqNiQES
A2 Supporting teacher leaders and giving them voice is a good start to supporting their roles. We must highlight and celebrate their excellence as an example for others. #satchat
2A) Build relationships first as a base before tackling initiatives with staff. #satchat (intentional planned activities for sharing, humor, caring, etc).
A2: If the school has evolved to be a safe environment where everyone feels comfortable taking risks and exploring without fear or retribution accepting efforts and expanding opportunities will occur naturally. #satchat
A2: Just as important to leadership is the first follower. Seek out those with the potential to get your ideas flowing among others. Or, be the crutch that our T leaders need to start a positive movement for an idea they’ve suggested. #satchat
A2: We've got to let teacher leaders know that they're not alone. Many feel like they've been "pulled from the family". Instead they're supporting great efforts! #satchat
According to TMZ and guests at the Harper's Bazaar Icons party for New York Fashion Week, an altercation broke out involving Cardi B and Nicki Minaj and her entourage.
https://t.co/l6mixh6Q9a
A2: this is SO much about culture of the building & attitude of administrators. Building a culture of trust & non judgment is important, and we must create a culture of innovation and willingness to change. Admins especially must be genuinely “all in” on initiatives too! #satchat
A2 credibility is key for any leader in the classroom or the principal’s office- walk the walk - means being seen as a teacher who delivers quality experiences for kids, relational w adults, listens, participates and is present in the work- sits on ego with others #satchat
A2 it all comes with culture. It’s NOT a top-down approach. When teachers have autonomy and admin’s trust, they will likely trust and respect your teacher leaders. #positivityspreads#satchat
Good morning, #satchat! Wendy Hankins, 2nd grade, HouTX. Sick in bed, but will try my best to stay the entire chat. Feeling a bit...but I’m breathing & here!
A2 Teachers need encouragement, support and the time to reflect with others about their work. Informally through an open door policy, as well as at faculty gatherings #satchat
A2: The role of teacher leaders must be communicated effectively. It should be clear their feedback is non-evaluative but there as an extra support. TLs should offer tons of positive feedback to support their colleagues! #Satchat
A2 To encourage Ts to accept the TL’s guidance and try something new they need to know it’s ok to do it wrong. Reassure Ts there will be no “gotcha’s” from admin. Create a judgement free environment of support. Try. Fall. Try again with support. #satchat
A1- I feel as though a lot of the tasks of TL are, or have been, bundled into Mentorship. Mentees ask mentors whom they admire questions about the other components. #satchat
A2: It starts with building trust...The TL needs to demonstrate humility - we've ALL failed at something in front of a classroom of kids - a TL needs to be wise enough to share those experiences with others to emphasize that mistakes are key to cultivating great teaching #satchat
A1: Leaders and coaches need to cultivate a culture of learning: connect and build relationships, find and honor teachers' strengths, highlight instructional risks others are taking for the sake of students and stay the course. #satchat
2A) Build relationships first as a base before tackling initiatives with staff. #satchat (intentional planned activities for sharing, humor, caring, etc).
A2: We use the coaching and mentoring model. They can be formal or informal. Building trusting relationships and listening are key. It's all about relationships, relationships, relationships! #satchat
Yes! I agree that we need "living systems" or learning organizations. However, that movement begins with a few leaders brave enough to build capacity and shared understanding. That's when more and more will follow and the entire organization benefits. #satchat
Yes, but does "lifting" suggest some are more powerful than others--should we be taking a greater "living systems" team approach to leadership--where we are looking more at circles of effect rather than hierarchical models. Playing w/these ideas this morning. #satchat
#satchat A2 Getting buy in from many levels has to do with the people you have working within your organization & the culture that has been established. Need a growth mindset & willingness to try new ideas fro growth. Can't let negativity get in the way. Strong leaders model it!
A2: I feel like teacher leaders need to foster relationships within a community/a team. Once staff know we're all in it together for support & resources, then that risk taking can occur and then gives Ss the freedom to take risks as well #satchat
A2 Hard to comment from Australia on the US context. Here we have professional standards at differing levels (see https://t.co/YQhbcJPgif) We encourage potential leaders to examine their practice against the standards & seek alignment
#Satchat
A2 Teacher Leaders need to be empowered as part of improving our profession. They should:
Provide PD to colleagues and administration
Be part of district and school committees
Collaborate with local colleges and universities
Provide consistent feedback to #edadmin#satchat
A2: We offer help before they ask, jump in & model, reflect & refine as a team. If one person is struggling in our building then we ALL will. Ss deserve our best which is only as strong as our weakest player so we make sure our teammates have what they need to succeed. #satchat
I will play w/these ideas all year--problem/service focused teams that solve problems and serve children together model the kind of work/service our students will need to do in an increasingly populated, sophisticated world. #satchat
A2: In all positions, the way we help people grow and be open to suggestions is by building effective relationships. Having trust that the person knows what they are doing and have the best intentions to help is a priority. #satchat
Teachers are finally opening their doors and collaborating more now than ever! Just like with anything in education it is about building trust and relationships between TLs and the other building staff. #satchat
A2: TLs typically come from the very classrooms and teams that work daily to facilitate learning and growth, others know them and respect them as peers who they are happy to have lead them #satchat
A2: It starts with building trust...The TL needs to demonstrate humility - we've ALL failed at something in front of a classroom of kids - a TL needs to be wise enough to share those experiences with others to emphasize that mistakes are key to cultivating great teaching #satchat
A2: Relationships are critical! Effective Teacher Leaders have the trust & respect of their colleagues & leverage their relationships w/colleagues to encourage risk taking and instructional improvement rather than rely on positional authority or formal titles! #satchat
A2: Teacher Leadership is going to look different in each building depending on a few factors IMO. 1. What's the culture like at the school? 2. Does admin treat TLs different in a way that's detrimental to culture? There has to be a sense that TLs are there to support. #satchat
A2: Relationships! It goes beyond just modeling and sharing. We need an environment of trust that allows for small steps too. Support teachers as they move forward even if it is at a slower pace. #satchat
A2: Having a shared vision and tying everything we do back to student learning and life long leaning for teachers can give everyone a focus. We also need each other to do it! #satchat#4OCF#innovatorsmindset#tlap#leadlap
Had a mentor say to me once “do work that helps another teacher” .. if that’s helping to set up a classroom, sitting down and listening to a hard day story, sharing resources -connect and support and keep a focus on value of T’ing and efficacy #satchat
Lissa--good point--I learned a lot from the Teacher Leadership program the NEA supports--and you're right, there were a few leaders who led me forward via that program, forward to work w/powerful, creative student-centered team. #satchat

A3: #SharedLeadership - Effective schools do not distinguish leaders by titles, they empower everyone to lead. However, it is up to the principal or district leadership to create and promote this culture. #satchat
A3: There needs to be a set platform for #edadmin and #TeacherLeaders to communicate. My school does Principal's Cabinet once a month where the team leads bring celebrations, possible issues, and ideas to the admin for discussion. #satchat
A2: Teachers need authentic PLCs in order to support each other's growth and development!
#Eduadmins need to ensure that true PLC time's provided. I love this piece by @chasemielke, "Is Your PLC a Farce?," making this point beautifully.
#satchathttps://t.co/VLvqIYaVVP
A2: Respect the expertise of all the teachers in your building FIRST, then build a culture of teachers sharing strategies at meetings for all to learn. Don’t turn your leaders into admins. They need, and want, to be seen as peers! #satchat
A2 I think modeling new and innovative efforts and then sharing both successes and failures in your own practice. This lets others see that even 'leaders' are still growing and that risk and failure are part of that process.
#satchat
Love this! We definitely need more what if you fly thinking and less what if I fail thinking...if for no other reason than our kids follow the lead of the adults in a school. #satchat
Teachers are finally opening their doors and collaborating more now than ever! Just like with anything in education it is about building trust and relationships between TLs and the other building staff. #satchat
It has to begin with respect. The best teams I’ve been a part of in schools all have a great deal of respect for one another and because of this, are willing to try new things. On the flip side, those with the ideas are open to feedback. #satchat
I find when the teachers and admin start Using the term “WE” instead of “I” without even realizing it.... that’s when the real culture shift towards authentic teacher leadership occurs. #satchat
A3 I think that responsibility is mainly on admin - they are better positioned to make it happen. Teachers are going to innovate and lead, admin needs to be aware of what’s happening in their schools and then amplify what their best teachers are doing. #satchat
A3: #edadmin and T leaders can effectively work together when leadership encourages collaboration, communication, empowering others, and a belief that we need each other to be successful #satchat
Sharing resources is an easy way to show this for sure! When I meet T's that won't share because it took them along time to create something, it makes me sad. #sharingiscaring#satchat
A3: Designated times set aside to learn & grow together -- PLCs are a great setting...safe, open communication about great teaching & learning #satchat#RU_EDEL#RU_EDET
A2: Teacher Leadership is going to look different in each building depending on a few factors IMO. 1. What's the culture like at the school? 2. Does admin treat TLs different in a way that's detrimental to culture? There has to be a sense that TLs are there to support. #satchat
A2: Teacher leaders should "get it" and be understanding of the different styles and needs of their peers. Being ssensitive to this builds trust and loyalty. The makes people want to buy what you are selling. Basically - form authentic relationships. #satchat
Yes, although sometimes admin don’t have much choice about content decisions. Where they do have power is the amount of time they take from teachers. Agree? #satchat
A2: Risk-takers are the best teachers. Helping to develop the risk-taker in others and providing support along the way. Collaborating with a “we are in this together” attitude helps and of course support from #admin makes it happen. #satchat
A2 Honestly, if another teacher walked into your room unannounced, and sat down at a desk, would your teaching improve? My guess is yes, as you would want your peer to see your best. This simple 8 minute task could open a new door of collaboration (without leader title). #satchat

Trump speaking at a rally is the James Bond villain monologuing of politics. Meanwhile The Constitution is strapped to table; threatened with its imminent demise. #SaturdayMorning#SatChat
A3: Proving your self-worth can be a powerful tool for success. It starts with having Admin that have the mindset for working with and trusting their Ts and TLs. They don’t micromanage and they support those crazy, out of the box, NEW ideas without fear! #satchat
A3: School and district leadership must listen to their teacher leaders and empower them to swing for the fences. It’s always a team effort. Let your superstars be super! #satchat
A3 face time together is key - open door, open mail, open SM, even open text to create communicate paths - had T (leader 2) say that simply coming in to sit down and ask how’s it going offers informal opps for sharing and Building relationships #satchat
A2: It starts with building trust...The TL needs to demonstrate humility - we've ALL failed at something in front of a classroom of kids - a TL needs to be wise enough to share those experiences with others to emphasize that mistakes are key to cultivating great teaching #satchat
A3: When building leaders include TLs on creating shared vision it is easier for TLs to “sell” the vision. It is hard to make change if they don’t agree with the idea. Communication and collaboration are key! #satchat
A3: Start small...trust is gained over time. Small gestures and partnerships will ultimately led to high quality collaboration among admin and T. But it’s a two way street. Both parties must share similar goals and vision, and a willingness to work together. #satchat
A3 I think there is "educational power and effectiveness" when teacher leaders and #edadmin work together. It starts with understanding how each can help the other work toward the mission of the program, school, district.
#satchat
"If teachers and principals are not working with each other, they are working against each other." This is especially true when it comes to student behavior, explains @Teachers_Lead. #satchathttps://t.co/oR4yexmIqS
A3: By building trust and relationships between admin and teacher leaders. Teacher leaders have to have the courage to stand up for what they think is best for children as do admins. I think as long as all parties keep the students at the heart of everything things go OK #satchat
Students want to take risks in the classroom. Guess what, so do teachers. By creating an atmosphere that punishes or mistrusts risk taking we punish and mistrust professionals. #satchat
One of the best ways to develop leadership is to work together on a problem of merit--an initiative that matters, this is where true leadership, support, and service to students/families grows. #satchat This builds authentic leadership.
A3: A culture of shared leadership is the first step to getting admin & teacher leaders to work well together. Building relationships based on trust & communication will promote the success of that culture. #satchat
A3: Edadmin sees and values the input of TLs, they do much of the footwork needed to develop others, they work in partnership to facilitate the vision of the school & use the expertise of others to build a strong learning community #satchat
Here is a reminder:
Hillary Clinton’s Attorney has NOT plead guilty.
Her campaign chairman is NOT in prison.
Her campaign aides are NOT awaiting sentencing.
She is NOT having a nervous breakdown in her bathroom while her spouse yells “I really don’t care, do u?”
A3. Teacher leaders tend to be the ones who are proactive in contacting #edadmin and making suggestions/ comments. I wish that #edadmin would ask advice more often or at least get a check on their plan. #satchat
A1 TLs @CoxAthSchools determine our annual performance targets, strategies, action steps and the PD and training necessary to support them and their colleagues’ work. #satchat
A3 when both the TL and adm recognize that they are on the same team and are both willing to put their titles aside, then they can work together even if their strategies are different from #satchat
A3: In order to work effectively their has to be mutual respect & role clarity. Give & take with honest communication and a common understanding about the mission at hand—to deliver the very best educational experience for every student, every day! #satchat
A2- the school culture is what makes the difference here. If morale is good, if they don't feel that the teacher leaders are toxic, then results will come. It may not come overnight, but we don't find all the solutions for all our students overnight either #SatChat
Hey girls. Let’s get real here. Give me a like if you wake up, look in the mirror, and experience what can only be called “hair euphoria” because it made it thru the night intact and you don’t have to wash it today! 😃 #satchat
A3: Admin must learn with & from all staff, including teacher-leaders. Active participation in professional learning is essential. We are all life long learners. Building a strong leadership team that supports growth & development of all staff is key! #satchat
A1: Ts who are leaders will lead BOTH Ss & colleagues. It is a mindset. It is within our heart. LEADERS...
L-ook for the best in everyone.
E-ncourage others
A-re uplifting
D-ream & inspire others to do so
E-mpower others to lead.
R-ecognize others
S-peak positive words
#SatChat
A3: This is so true! When I do district PD I always have admin and teacher leaders at the table. We must have honest, collaborative dialogue about where we are and solutions forward. Great principals listen intently to teacher leaders and empower them to act. #satchat
A3: #edadmin can help this relationship by providing an arena/platform for this to happen regularly. Encouraging a culture of collaboration and a “we” vs. “I” are also key. #Satchat
A3: TLs need respect from admins - We are all professionals and deserve to be treated as such... Admins need to trust that their TLs (and their staff) are there because they want to make a difference. #satchat
A3: Having PLC's and a two way communication system gives us all a way to stay on the same page. Having honest conversations can be difficult sometimes, but it's what we need to do to keep moving forward. #SatChat
Using a team structure can make good leadership more accessible--rather than one principal working w/multiple individual educators, the principal instead focuses on working with and leading multiple teacher teams as well as other administrative teams. #satchat
A3 Set culture where teachers r comfortable sharing ideas, taking risks & principal is finding ways 2 say YES! Our teachers r the backbone of our school & are responsible for ALL our great ideas & new programs - internships, flextime hour, Global studies program, etc #satchat
A3 It starts with Teacher Leaders and Principals to understand that they both are always doing what is best for the students. They both need to listen more, speak less, then come up with a plan that works for all to let their passions come alive. #satchat
A3. Starts w/ relationships and building trust. Then developing a vision around “what’s best for kids”. As an admin, my role is to then support and encourage teacher leaders. Key quote “If serving others is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you”. Servant leadership #SatChat
Yes. Building trust is a huge component of leadership. Starts at the top and trickles down. Can't be any game playing when trying to build trust as people see through that. Honesty goes a long way in building relationships. #satchat#edchat@MSAA_33
A powerful starting ground for teacher and school leader trust and collaboration is the passion project. Here's a cool explanation of what passion projects look like. #satchathttps://t.co/dS66xiJDEu
A3 TL’s and admin need to have set time to communicate. They need to work together for the good of the school. This communication should be open and transparent. Ts will be more comfortable going to the TL as the amazing resource they are this way. #SatChat
A3: Admin has to empower teacher leaders by including them in key conversations about the vision and path they have for school culture and success. They can be your best ambassadors when they feel a part of the team. #satchat
A3: When admin choose and empower teacher leaders, it has to be to make them more than just Enforcers of the Initiatives! Admin must listen, share perspective, compromise, and grow with TLs. #satchat#leadlap
A3 Building a culture of “yes” empowers leaders in the building to emerge. Admin has to be open to changes and ideas from leaders and ask “how can we make that happen” rather than saying no. #satchat
The teacher can not be afraid to share their thoughts ... if Admin asks a question ... give an honest answer ... offer new ideas. Why would an Admin ask for input from a person who does not contribute? #satchat
A3. Again, personally as a principal and now in my current role, you have to build effective, collegial relationships. Knowing when to share decisions, given others a voice to help lead a school, department, district is important. Building teamwork to meet a goal/vision #satchat
Martha Stewart = Guilty of felony conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding & making false statements to investigators= 5 MONTH TERM
Geoge Papadopoulos= pleaded guilty to LYING TO THE FBI about meetings with Moscow = 14 DAY.
Come on Amerca, we can do better
#satchat#MAGA
A2: Relationships! It goes beyond just modeling and sharing. We need an environment of trust that allows for small steps too. Support teachers as they move forward even if it is at a slower pace. #satchat
A3: relationships!! Yes, principals are going to have certain 'powers' but take away hierarchy - we are all there for one reason: the betterment of Ss. Keep the common goal in mind #satchat
A3:admin needs 2 set the example & allow for T leaderships to grow. Ts will need to learn & when we learn we make mistakes. We need to put them in situations where they can be coached through failure & celebrate successes. Knowing what’s ok to delegate is important too. #satchat
A3 I always run things by Teacher Leaders, I also brainstorm with them, I know that they will help me lead. Without teacher leaders, especially in small schools, it can feel very isolated. I depend on my teacher leaders #satchat
A3: Admin need to be open to having others lead. All teachers are not open to mentoring and student teachers, some admin may not want to let others play in the same sandbox. Admin also need to be willing to let their best teacher leaders fly away when they are ready. #satchat
A2: Relationships! It goes beyond just modeling and sharing. We need an environment of trust that allows for small steps too. Support teachers as they move forward even if it is at a slower pace. #satchat

A3: Admins - teacher leaders are first leaders within their classrooms. While we love to help, our first priority is our kids. We will often take on more than our plate allows. Help us by allowing us to showcase our greatest strengths. #satchat
A3 TLs work side by side with principals to determine building performance goals and then monitor data and set adjustments in actions to reach targets. #satchat
A3 I’m a believer in collective efficacy as a key process goal- shared goals, community driven leadership comes from positional power of leaders to create conditions that support collective efficacy @Jenni_Donohoo#satchat
#satchat A3: We are ALL a team. Respect your admin the way you want your Ss to respect you. They are there to help you succeed, just like you help your Ss succeed. Obviously this does not apply to toxicity.
A3: #edadmin and TL's need to be giving time and space by school district leaders to collaborate on their work in the buildings. Biweekly or monthly cabinet meetings #SatChat
Great point Dr. Aglio. By taking ownership of leadership opportunities that already exist, teachers (if they are empowered to do it) can do wonderful things. #satchat
"Privilege is a terrible disease, because it is invisible to those most fully afflicted with it.
They will do anything not to be inconvenienced by the ugly realities of a system that they are the greatest beneficiaries of."
#SaturdayMorning#SatChathttps://t.co/TZbSGZrEqP
PLCs can be very powerful if authentic, but when PLCs are inauthentic teachers can feel like animals in a zoo--animals in cages watched by those outside of the cage. Often PLCs become ineffective due to inauthentic suffocating hierarchical structures in schools. #satchat
How to start a movement - Derek Sivers Ted Talk. Great video to show the power of leading so that others will follow. It takes courage (and great dance moves). https://t.co/5g2HodyDbV#satchat
A3: We must come to a common understanding that shared, distributive leadership is one of the most effective forms of leadership...do away with the hierarchy and desire for power...healthy, joy-filled, highly productive learning spaces result! #satchat
A4: Involved everyone in the conversation. Get feedback. Stop reluctant Ts in the hall or on the way somewhere to see how things are going. If they don't feel they are needed in the convo, they won't involve themselves. Encourage their ideas and sharing them. #satchat
a3- recognize you're on the same team and don't be afraid to know each other as people. Sounds so simple but it makes the biggest difference. It's more than just having cookies at meetings #satchat
A4: #edadmin need to provide encouragement, support, and provide opportunities for growth in #teachers and then when there is that mutual respect, great support and, ultimately, great educational initiatives can happen. #satchat
It helps if admin & Ts are able to get out in classrooms together to join in celebrating the success of what is happening in classrooms vs. shaming and judging without reflection #satchat
A4 A school or district needs to be open to #TeacherLeaders - instead of deciding what/how to teach and pushing those ideas down to Ts, flip it! Tune in to the innovation already happening in classrooms and give teachers a path to share with other classrooms and schools. #satchat
Absolutely...the culture of “nice”can be alluring but as with most things that are easy it carries little value! Honest conversations are challenging conversations but without conflict there is no progress! #satchat
A3: Having PLC's and a two way communication system gives us all a way to stay on the same page. Having honest conversations can be difficult sometimes, but it's what we need to do to keep moving forward. #SatChat
I think we incorrectly put the making of teacher leaders responsibility onto Admin ... they have to cultivate, but it is a two way street the teacher needs to put themselves out there too. #satchat
A4: We bring out the leadership abilities of every T by listening to them, empowering them in the decision making process, & celebrating T leadership #satchat

A4: If you want to bring out the leadership abilities of every teacher and help them become teacher leaders, provide them with a community of practice. #satchat
A4: As student voice matters, so does teacher voice. Include T's in planning the agendas of meetings they attend, include their voice in the facilitation of the meeting. Inclusion means you matter. #satchat
A4: Seek opportunities for them to share their gifts & talents... Provide a path for them to share...maybe in a small group setting, one-on-one, or during a faculty meeting #satchat#RU_EDEL#RU_EDET
Agreed! Everything comes down to trust. I have been fortunate to work with amazing admin who are open to feedback and it's so professionally satisfying to have my ideas and thoughts taken seriously. #satchat
Mary and Faith...fighting? Where's the video? Why are folks playing with the 90's? Don't we have enough shit going on in 2018 already? We need to find out how this Dallas,TX man was shot & killed at his front door by a female officer thinking she's at her home. #satchat#AMJoy
Completely agree with this! Share the #goodnews of your students, your staff, and your school. Social media allows us to create our own story about our school community. #satchat
A3: Lots of discussion and bouncing ideas around helps my principal and I to hold each other accountable for our core business that revolves around student learning and building character! @kpek5 Our philosophy is to #LoveThemLikeTheyAreYourOwn#satchat
A4 Help teachers become leaders by encouraging excellence each and every day in staff members actions and school expectations. Leaders who strive for excellence will emerge in that culture and then we must allow them to lead by their example, showcasing their actions. #satchat
A3 I don't even use the word "initiative"-our school expects change as natural & necessary- new ideas r constantly flowing & growing our school-Always baffled me how schools spend $$ on consultants/etc when u have the greatest minds right in ur building (students/staff) #satchat
A3: I love schools where the #edadmin has invested in really understanding the instructional approach. This enables collaboration around important work.
Where or not an admin's naturally an instructional leader, he/she can invest in understanding the curriculum. #satchat
A2 Again, I believe the answer lies in daily, authentic, student-centered teams--when we work like this we are challenged to develop our own and each others capacity, we challenge, we trust, we build positive service and education. #satchat
A4 Teacher Leader can take many forms. It can be formal and informal. Active or passive. Everyone has a strength or area of expertise where they can be a leader. Teacher leaders and #edadmin need to find that strength or area and help every teacher become a leader
#satchat
A4: We bring out T leadership in those Ts who feel empowered by admin. Encouragement and praise to Ts in their classroom & school goes a long way to foster the desire for shifting into a T leadership role #satchat
#satchat A4: Our Principal does a great job of this. He communicates with clear expectations, trusts us Ts as the professionals we are, gives praise where due, yet is always encouraging even further growth and development.
A4 Get to know them - know their strengths & passions and give them opportunity. Believe in them, have their back & be there for them if/when things go wrong #Satchat
I think we incorrectly put the making of teacher leaders responsibility onto Admin ... they have to cultivate, but it is a two way street the teacher needs to put themselves out there too. #satchat
I love this but some teachers don’t want to teach adults in a large setting. Be sensitive to that. Sometimes it’s just fantastic to say “I saw Ms. P. teaching x and all the students were jumping to their feet.” In a public mtg. You noticing matters.
#satchat
A4 Give them an invitation to share their ideas. It does not have to be in front of the entire staff. It could be as simple as sharing a small video clip from their classroom with others. They will find an avenue that works for them to share. #satchat
A.3 Instructional leaders and teacher leaders can work together to focus on always improving student learning; one of the hallmarks of @NBPTS Certification. #SatChat#NBCTStrong
A4: As an admin, take on a role as a sport coach. Look at your players. Find their strengths. Put them in the right position. Strengthen them. Now...go put your team in the field and play school! #satchat
#satchat Democrats scream, HolliWood scream about every woman who speaks the word harassment unless it's one of their own then they stick to him or her like mud. Yep, they have all made a joke of REAL victims with their fake #metoo movement they turned into a JOKE.
#satchat A4: A big part is people need to have success to gain confidence in leadership roles. Start out by providing them with varous roles to gain that success & build on it. Let them do their thing & don;t micromanage or over critique if somehting doesn't work. Support them
@CoxAthSchools we provide a daily #PLC period prior to kids arriving for TLs to collaborate with colleagues around the four learning questions. We also provide regular training for TLs to help them facilitate. #satchat
A4: Bring out the leadership of every colleague by treating them with respect and valuing their role as an educator. Be human and get out of the way! #satchat
We have way too many teachers who think there deserve to be teacher leaders, but they are not offering anything of substance. Just talking louder than their peers. #satchat
A4: Every educator became one because of passion. We can reignite that passion by recreating moments to reflect on “the why” instead of getting bogged down in “the what.” #Satchat#KidsDeserveIt#JoyfulLeaders
Bill, I agree that too many dollars are lost w/ineffective initiatives and structures--it's easy to throw money at a problem and say you solved it. Yet, it's also good to work together w/research and analysis to move our innovation in meaningful ways. #satchat
A3 I don't even use the word "initiative"-our school expects change as natural & necessary- new ideas r constantly flowing & growing our school-Always baffled me how schools spend $$ on consultants/etc when u have the greatest minds right in ur building (students/staff) #satchat
A4: Start a dialogue. Engage Ts whenever possible to illicit ideas and get their feedback. If Ts don't feel as though they're part of the conversation, they'll be reluctant to share ideas. #satchat
A4: Ed Leaders can bring out the Leaders in Teachers through encouragement, creating opportunities to lead and MOST importantly MODELING what leadership looks like. #satchat
A4: By giving opportunities for leadership. Most importantly, it is important to recognize the strengths in all teachers and find varying opportunities. #satchat
My nephew once said” my teacher has so many rules! They’re hard to remember but so easy to break!” Dont be that teacher. Have a few simple rules but mainly focus on expectations, relationships, respect, and responsibility. #Teachers1st. #satchat#edchat
A4 Encouraging teachers to be a part of committees or planning groups helps them realize their potential in working with adults. Realizing that the skill set for working with adults is similar to working with student learners can be empowering. #satchat
#satchat Democrats scream, HolliWood scream about every woman who speaks the word harassment unless it's one of their own then they stick to him or her like mud. Yep, they have all made a joke of REAL victims with their fake #metoo movement they turned into a JOKE.
A4: Distributed leadership is key. Don't select the same teachers to lead every time. Spread the wealth and ensure everyone has a role to play. Create an environment predicated on the idea that OUR school is only as good as US. Work TOGETHER to make it even better. #satchat
A4: When you look around a building you see many teachers who are leaders. You will also know that they are busy! When we take time to celebrate and support them, they will see it too! Find opportunities for others to see the great things they are doing! #satchat
A4 I purposefully look for teachers passions, determine how those passions can serve the community, and support and encourage them to build on those passions and share with others #satchat
A4:We need to know our teachers just like a coach knows their players. Put your best line up in the game based on skill set and tenacity for successful outcomes. Play to your teachers strengths and this will fill the gaps of the team as a whole. #satchat
Here is the truth America: ICE Immigration centers are nicer than public schools. I went to school in Connecticut and the Broward County ICE center is nicer than EVERY school I attended.
I will now tour public schools in Chicago to show America how disgusting the left is.
A2: T leaders should first be a learner, stepping in the classroom and organizing some small informal conversations with teachers. This approach makes teachers fill concerned and builds a strong and mutually-trust relationship which will spur trying NEW things. #satchat
True! We started our year voting on norms, I help facilitate the meetings, but the teacher's guide the agenda. The goal is to look forward to them because of the valuable planning time and conversations. #satchat
A4: Conversations! Something as small as- Have you shared what you are doing with your department? Sometimes Ts need a reminder that their ideas are valued! #Satchat
A3: by being cheerleaders for their departments and students, teacher leaders will become both valuable and influential to the principals. After all, you make them and their school look good! 😉 #satchat
Loving all the resources & research articles provided by #satchat this morning! Modeling a taste of what T leadership should look like, thanks guys!! @ScottRRocco@wkrakower@TheBradCurrie
A4: Clear and consistent expectations by admin can transform a place from a "gotcha" to an environment where teachers feel comfortable and competent to take on both defined and informal leadership roles. #satchat
A4: What if there were opportunities for teachers to advance their careers & saleries by staying in the classroom & being teacher leaders, not #edadmin ? #satchat
A4 Everyone has something they are expert at or passionate about to contribute. Find out what that is and tap into it. Each T has something they can teach someone else. #satchat
A3 I don't even use the word "initiative"-our school expects change as natural & necessary- new ideas r constantly flowing & growing our school-Always baffled me how schools spend $$ on consultants/etc when u have the greatest minds right in ur building (students/staff) #satchat
A4: Acknowledge those strengths and ask Ts to share & demonstrate with others. Find opportunities for others to shine for value and confidence. Yes, even those Year 1 Ts!! #satchat
A4 True leaders don't wait to be asked, they just do it instinctively. Of course, there are some that think they are leaders that are not. Those need to be regulated. In a culture that allows teachers to share their voice, normally more leaders are produced. #satchat
A5: Giving TL's opportunities to grow in these ares. P's cannot foster leadership in others, talents, change, etc. if these opportunities are not given to staff #SatChat
A4: What if there were opportunities for teachers to advance their careers & salaries by staying in the classroom & being teacher leaders, not #edadmin ? #satchat
A4:Admins need to talk to Ts, ask about what they're doing in class that's working/not, ask what they're reading, ask about their wellbeing-& always follow up with a positive comment... When Ts know they've got someone invested in them, they might just become a leader #satchat
A2:When districts & admin. breathe empowerment into the lives of Ts, it leaves a powerful impact that permeates the soul of schools & more imp., the Ss.
When we believe in Ts & push them out of their comfort zone, magic emerges, Ss are empowered & both Ts & Ss benefit.
#satchat
A4: natural leaders emerge in different ways, at different times, we must listen, encourage, give opportunites to others to shine using their expertise and passion to develop and lead others #satchat
A4 Admin should create and encourage opportunities with TL in mind (staff PD, present at prof conferences, school FB page run by different TLs each week). Sometimes TLs need a push in the right direction to be able to soar! #satchat
A4 it helps when Ts they know that everyone has an opportunity to lead, not just a select few on campus which means the admin has to be willing to take risks. Growth mindset isn't just for the Ss #satchat
Good #SaturdayMorning and have a nice day😛
My #Caturday would be like🤗Yeah, I know it's not a cat, but it is close😊
Anyway, have a nice and sunshine Saturday☀️
And that's all for now #satchat😜
A4 start early mentoring - watch 4 young Ts w early influence on peers, don’t let experience be only determiner of leadership, create informal spaces for leader capacity to emerge, encourage, invite Ts to come sit down, chat futures w: you, create paths 2 stay in T role #satchat
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
A3: When admin listens and gives teachers the freedom to innovate, then you’ll see teachers step up.
Formal governance committees & shared decision making councils create authentic spaces for teacher leadership. #satchat
A4: Every educator became one because of passion. We can reignite that passion by recreating moments to reflect on “the why” instead of getting bogged down in “the what.” #Satchat#KidsDeserveIt#JoyfulLeaders
A4: Every staff member has areas of expertise, passions & knowledge. It is our job to help create the 'spark' and encourage staff to share these with others. @gcouros#satchat
A4: To some degree Ts need to assert themselves when opportunities present themselves and sometimes we need to make opportunities where none exist.
#satchat
Totally agree, Jimmy. That's why trust is so important. If an admin that I trust is telling me some difficult or constructive feedback, I'm going to take it less as an attack to me as a person and more of a situation where they are trying to do what's best for students. #satchat
A4 principals can be purposeful in reaching out to Ts to ask them to be a leader for a particular project or role. Don’t let the same TLs do everything. Burns them out and keeps others voices quiet. What we would do in our classrooms- have all kids participate. #satchat
Good morning, #satchat! Chi, Director & Teacher from FL here. A1 The first priority of our Teacher Leaders remains student learning and growth. Teacher Leaders step up (or are recommended/invited) based on their expertise and strengths in needed roles to move the school forward.
A4: Every staff member has areas of expertise, passions & knowledge. It is our job to help create the 'spark' and encourage staff to share these with others. @gcouros#satchat
What's difficult for many teachers is that some facilitators rarely work w/the children--that creates what seems like an inauthentic leadership model. When we co-lead, I believe leadership is best. #satchat
A4: when admins go to leadership workshops, they can bring some teachers with them! Leadership is for everyone...even a first year teacher takes on a leadership role each day in the classroom #satchat
Building "teams of teams" help to flatten the heirarchy and amplify the voice, engagement, and collective commitment of team members. This leads to a stronger sense of efficacy. #satchat
I Iove this, but unfortunately this has become a trend to do more with less. Come in before or stay after with no $ &/or no less responsibilities during the day. #satchat
A4: I think it starts with supporting teachers, so they have time & capacity to lead the work.
Top of my list: giving T's excellent curricula, so they aren't scouring Pinterest for resources on Sunday nights. There are far better uses of time!
#satchat
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
Leadership is based on trust ... others have to trust the knowledge/information you are giving out ... many want to see it working before they dive in ... they also want support when they try it. #satchat
A4. Everyone has something they can bring to the table. Encourage teachers to try new things and be ok when things get messy. Know that it’s ok if someone spills their milk on the table. #satchat
A4 protect T dreamers and designers who push envelopes - they may never be in formal leadership roles but they are your “skunkworks or Bell lab” Educators and that’s a different kind of essential leadership to see beyond the horizon and be willing to explore #satchat
A5: T leaders are can provide valuable, relevant PD from the classroom perspective. We are working on a PD on classroom management with 1:1 that T leaders would greatly enhance #satchat
A4.2 - Being a “cheerleader” is not enough. We all have felt the emptiness of a good job. Teachers need support. They have A LOT on their plates. They are after all shaping the future! #satchat
A5 for topics I say look at the TLs passion all Ts have something that they love to learn about let them share that knowledge it will make for a much better PD experience #satchat
A4 Our team leads our grade-level learning together--there is great positive power and growth here, rather than lots of discrete leaders, I think it's important to grow everyone's leadership skill w/a focused team approach. #satchat
I have run into situations where the teachers w/ more experience or at the particular school longer rject the ideas of newbies, even talented newbies. I realize it is a problem with the culture. But it is a tough one to change. Takes time #satchat
A3 #satchat Great points. Give people a job and let them do it. Just believe we need to clearly define roles so waters don't get muddy. Want work to always be productive.
In our building every issue is everyone’s issue. We are a team, we support each other and we jump in when needed. The capacity we have as a team working towards a common goal is much greater than working alone. #satchat
I actually find the conversations which pitch ‘admin’ & ‘teachers’ against each other really unhelpful. Education is a team enterprise with each serving out of their strength & talent. It’s a service of mutuality - one team, one dream #Satchat
Yes! I have been meeting with each of my Ts after they have reflected on their why by working on their personal mission and then comparing it to the school’s mission. Some rich convos! #satchat
4A) Provide opportunity for building teacher leaders. Let teachers have voice, leadership team voice, etc. The admin can be an equal at the table. No more top down initiatives. #satchat
A4. Sometimes it's just asking "What do you think?" Asking for feedback and input. Not everyone might want to go to an admin meeting, but all can give voice. #satchat
A5 Teacher leaders give you more options and resources for PD. Teacher led PD is more authentic and can drive more instructional changes. Having 10 teachers lead separate PD sessions gives teachers voice and allows those leaders to be celebrated. #satchat
Sometimes "cheerleaders" are hired who have much less experience than the T's they are cheering on--more hands-on, student-centered teachers would be a greater help--we have to get rid of most hierarchical approaches in schools to make better. #satchat
Q5: While not required, often times teacher leaders are innovators. This can be especially valuable to PD as TLs offer training & support for colleagues. #Satchat
Yes but you gotta make sure that you have the long term in mind & aren’t just focusing on the next point. Building a teams capacity through fundamentals & seeing the potential of each teacher for what it can be & not for what it currently is will create sustainability! #satchat
A5: TL can encourage the #observeme movement, create pineapple charts in which others can demonstrate their unique expertise and share it, provide mini PD on new programs and support implementation #satchat the possibilities are endless! 😊
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
A4. Not all teachers want to be teacher leaders. Some have more difficulty talking to adults but confidence talking to children. Instead, how can we strengthen all teachers abilities? Encouragement, a safe place to practice new things, offer to help. #satchat
There's only so many hours in the school day, so I understand why some schools need to use before or after school for committee work. At the same time we can find creative ways and small ways to provide opportunities during the day as well. #satchat
A5 for skills I think there are always teaching strategies and new technologies that can be taught. As a T I always would learn more from real Ts not some expert who wrote a book #satchat
A4 and keep in mind that the greater the diversity of teams in terms of backgrounds and expertise the more creative they will be - T leadership is key to not just inviting team members to “sit at the table but also making sure every one has a great dining experience” #satchat
A5: There's NO limit to what TLs can provide in the form of PD... The idea is to find the Ts who have a passion and encourage them to share that passion with other Ts! #satchat
A5: Twitter sure is a great PD tool and I encourage it in all of my workshops. But sometimes does it feel we are preaching to the choir?? How about a #twitterEDchallenge to get at least 3 educators to join Twitter and join in Ed convos? Lead others to listen in & share #satchat
Of course! That being said, what do you find most valuable from your instructional coach? I have 2 days in my schedule where I can spend most of my time in the classroom. #satchat the other 3 are coach meetings or PLC's.
A5: Focusing on making PD relevant, research backed, and instantly usable. Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction would be a great place to start. https://t.co/j650FBq6HY#satchat
Our team is continually problem solving and growing our program--we rely on each others' strengths, strengths from greater community and other teams. Lots of learning, lots of positive service. #satchat
#SatChat A5: Sharing how to use tech tools, discussing scaffolding strategies, aiding relucant or struggling learners, and classroom mgmt skills.
Each T should contribute skills they're good at. We should ALL get REAL about our weaknesses - without fear of repercussion.
A5 There are many schools that do not offer PD time (must offer pd). To have effective PD, offer choices. Leaders will step up to lead a class/book study that they are passionate about. Others will follow. This would be a better use of time than dissecting data again.#satchat
The majority of educators are passionate about teaching, but that passion gets killed by mandates that require excessive paperwork. “This mandate is something you’re already doing, but now you have to put everything in this form that will take more time.” #satchat
A5: There are an infinite number of possible topics. I think having a building focus and surrounding support and PD around your goal is important. Sometimes when we cherrypick our topics teachers don’t see value or have buy in. #satchat
A5 @KressTech4 and I wanted to start with a shared vision and goal setting so that we were all on the same page about where we are going this year. Now our professional learning is personalized to individual teacher needs #satchat
A5: T leaders make up the front lines of PD. We want to grow in order to share and help others. We push others to pursue their own growth and we are filling in the gaps where other PD falls way short and we're trying to fix that PD on the spot. #satchat
I think #TeacherLeaders also recognize abilities in others and help them take important steps in their own leadership. As someone who was nudged several times on my leadership path, I know the importance of presenting others with opportunities to lead. #satchat
A5: Ts have the Ss in front of them & are the best to make decisions on PD based on our why: the Ss. Also learn side-by-side admin & Ts. Very powerful. #wi has done this with #wiwow18 series. @WisDPI_EDS#satchat
A5 When innovation takes on a team approach, that innovation grows exponentially. When that process is embraced in schools--students are well served. #satchat
#satchat Democrats profit off the backs of little girls they make sure to send home to their families so they can rape again. what does it mean to them? MORE PROFITS. Wonder how many they will make money off of today? The screams should haunt them all. #DemocratsHateAmerica
That’s where coaching comes into play, trust but guide. Too many admin lose trust too fast in their people but that’s often because they aren’t guiding through the process. As a leader we need to look at ourselves first if our people are failing. #satchat
A5: TLeaders not only have the capacity but also should have the will and passion to want to share and build knowledge around them. By very definition of leadership they should provide this to peers and colleagues for the betterment of all #satchat
A5 TL’s bring a wealth of knowledge about all kinds of things for the classroom! Morning Meeting, Restorative Practice, inquiry based learning, engagement, setting class routines, I could go on and on...they are experts in the classroom! #Satchat
A4: Make it comfortable to have uncomfortable conversations. Use these moments as opportunities to get to know what's on each other's minds. Overtime this can help teams to move from distrust to understanding. Ts who have this level of conversation are leaders #satchat
A5: Your teacher leaders should live the 5 core propositions of @NBPTS and help share out best practices of accomplished teaching to ensure ALL learners are thriving! #satchat#NBCTStrong
Yes--at our meeting w/Ss yesterday, I said, "How's it going? What do you need? How can we make this a good year?" They had great ideas, suggestions, ready and willing to lead. This is essential. #satchat
#satchat Democrats profit off the backs of little girls they make sure to send home to their families so they can rape again. what does it mean to them? MORE PROFITS. Wonder how many they will make money off of today? The screams should haunt them all. #DemocratsHateAmerica
A5: teacher led PD is often more authentic & relatable, since those Ts interact with YOUR Ss every day. Ts have skills and knowledge they use in their classrooms effectively to share. That said, Ts need to be given appropriate time & support to develop PD presentations. #satchat
A5. Teacher leaders bring experiences of best practices but also from “the trenches” so it’s authentic and validated from staff. It takes a village to run a great school and you must let teachers help drive the school PD and culture. #SatChat
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
5A) "In-house" experts can lead round table discussions on building wide initiatives and create or facilitate a discussion on the creation of monitoring tools to measure implementation progress. #satchat
A5: TL's bring a different level PD when it comes to best practices, pedagogy, reflective instructional strategies, and collaboration with other T's #SatChat
A5. Teacher leaders have strong professional currency within their learning communities. They can leverage it to enhance and strengthen professional learning. #NBCTStrong#SatChat
It has given me the opportunity to connect with my Ts on a different level and has helped them think about their path. Here is the link I gave them: https://t.co/7cvMvqiOq5#satchat
A5: TLead topic: TECH. Always an ever changing & growing area, T leaders should be educating themselves & sharing with colleagues. TLead skills: risk taking, relationship building, & listening. I think these are all cornerstones to effective PD for T's from TLeaders #satchat
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
excellent point- I find that often we use our "go to" TLs in many capacities. This in turn creates a passive group of teachers who know they won't be "called on". When in fact they too have much to share, but are left as untapped resources. Know your people #satchat
A5: There is such a need to make the school experience relevant for the future our Ss are living into! TLs can lead the way to innovate practice to include student voice, social action projects, and best practice with meaningful tech integration- to name a few #satchat
Great point. This has to be a goal of mine this week. We rolled out a new system for part of the day and I need to be there to support when we implement it Monday. #satchat
A5: Teacher Leaders help in all aspects/topics of professional development. They have a natural passion for a specific area and develop a strategy or practice that is effective. They want to share it with colleagues. Admins need to set up a culture that supports this. #Satchat
A4 Love this. Strong leaders understnd and know how to use other people's strengths and hire around their weaknesses. Not everyone can be the exact same so suround yourself with various talents. #satchat
Our team is continually problem solving and growing our program--we rely on each others' strengths, strengths from greater community and other teams. Lots of learning, lots of positive service. #satchat
I am actually not a fan of instructional coaching--I prefer a co-coaching model where educators work in teams and coach each other forward. I find the coaching model to be punitive and ineffective mostly. But I know that some find it useful. #satchat
A5. Teacher leaders do PD informally constantly. It’s part of being a leader. Allow PD to be more flexible w choices. Have several teacher leaders set up to teach something they did & allow faculty to go to their choice. Flexibility & choice! #satchat
A3: For administration & teacher leaders to effectively work together, there MUST be a foundation of:
💥Respect
💥Trust
💥Value
💥Effective Communication
If these are present, creating a vision, establishing goals & doing what’s best for kids will be more effortless.
#satchat
A5 open doors so others can see them at work, sharing what hasn’t worked and making themselves vulnerable w peers, sharing how they learn from others, amplifying work of team members #satchat
A5 Let’s talk in the professional world not just about growth mindsets but about a #benefitmindset That’s got to be a great professional learning!
#Satchat#Satchat
A6: #TeacherLeaders are probably the ones asking if they can help out with new teacher induction. They have ideas/strategies to share. Find the Ts who have something they love and do well and ask them to share out. They will be more than happy to do it. #satchat
Facilitators have to regularly work w/Ss--I actually think that almost every educator needs to be working with students regularly--roles where people have little student-content, for the most part, are ineffective roles in schools. #satchat
A5: Teachers in our buildings are the experts who have the experience w/ our students AND with our other professionals. When they share their stories of success or learning we all move forward because of what they've learned. #satchat#storiesineduhttps://t.co/EyWXyGFrod
A5: PD presented from Ts and TLs is sometimes more relevant for other teachers. They're in the trenches so to speak. They've taught, adjusted, and refined their practices. Experts in so many areas. #satchat
Q6: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of new teachers and mentor programs. How do you engage Teacher Leaders in a new teacher induction program and the mentoring process? #satchat
Thanks Tom--we're a very diverse team that has a number of systems in place that promote that growth, we learn every day from each other and our Ss. Best teaching situation I've had in my 33 years. Amazing potential. #satchat
Our district did an #edcamp before school started. We are a K-12 bldg. so it was awesome to hear from other bldgs & Ts we don’t generally see. #satchat
#satchat when u watch the ppl out there marching for Planned Slaughterhood it makes me wonder how many have their own rapes to cover up. they seem to be all for those slaughtered babies at any cost. watch the children. no telling how many been raped & covered up. $$$ For Dems
A5 Leaders model innovative thinking about pedagogy and learning; and they don't need to be facilitating a PD session to do this. Learning happens through exposure, convo, observation, guided practice, and more #satchat
A5 There is something to be said for the way that teachers can take edu trends and practices and apply them to the students in THEIR classrooms, the tech in THEIR buildings, etc. Education is hollow without relationships and connections. #satchat
This part is nice for those that are connected but there is a lot of amazing that is not shared because the connected educator is by far a minority piece of the whole. #satchat
Q6: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of new teachers and mentor programs. How do you engage Teacher Leaders in a new teacher induction program and the mentoring process? #satchat
#SatChat A5: I also think there is a bit of a stigma in some districts about new Ts by veteran Ts. Sadly some districts see new teachers as threats. This should not be so. Healthy schools see the new as potential to improve. Veteran and new teachers can learn from one ANOTHER.
Q1: Bonnie Dickson, science teacher from Avon Grove Charter School in PA. A little late joining. Glad to be here. Teacher leaders are positive educators who challenge others to bring their best selves to their students and colleagues. #satchat
“Education needs to be inconvenient because it relies on effort and discomfort to move us from where we were to where we want to be. ” https://t.co/yjM5uBbwW2 Can we change without discomfort? #edchat#satchat
A5. Find out where the needs are first in the school and classroom and go from there. Support Assessment...might look very different in each school and there may be common threads too #satchat
Sounds like this team is not obsessed with being right & is able to put issues on the table without fear. It takes time to build trust like this and is vital in a coaching relationship. #satchat
A4: By empowering the Ts. Like, T leaders can invite all Ts and Ss to join a discussion (face-to-face blended with social media) on curriculum design, providing a good platform for Ts’s and Ss’s voices. When this is norm, Ts will actively regard themselves as Tleaders. #satchat
Q6: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of new teachers and mentor programs. How do you engage Teacher Leaders in a new teacher induction program and the mentoring process? #satchat
Maureen I wonder why you think co-teaching and coaching are mutually exclusive? In my large school we would never be able to afford 2 teachers in every room. Coaches can work with teachers when co-teaching is not practical. #satchat
A6: We involve T leaders as mentors in our T induction program, but they also provide new teacher learning sessions on different topics from a T perspective #satchat
"These fundamentalists all offer a similar solution to the diagnosed "problem" of my Progressive theology:
You should try reading the Bible and asking God to reveal the truth to you.'—as if these are things I'd never considere...
#SaturdayMorning#SatChathttps://t.co/9jbZIfvPuN
A6: Teacher leaders create more teacher leaders. It’s contagious and inspiring. Provide opportunities for teacher leaders to connect with new hires as often as possible throughout the school year. Your culture and climate depend on it! #satchat
A4: Teacher Leadership is only truly possible when all buy into a collaborative as shared-responsibility culture. Supporting = Modeling. @RyanBJackson1 says “Leadership is a Lifestyle” #satchat
#satchat A5 I think it can be as simple as discussing & saring best practices within one's department or school during CPT/faculty meetings>such as teaching strategies, classroom managemnet, various assessments, using technology, improving two-way communication with parents, etc
Q5: Teacher Leaders can play a vital role in professional development. Describe the topics and skills Teacher Leaders can bring to adult learning to change/improve/enhance professional practice as a part of the professional development of their school and / or district #satchat
#satchat when those kids many still out there living as slaves or being profited off of (some probably slave labor for the rich elite) u did not hear the resistance or the cries. BUT SUDDENLY u do. Follow the money. Everything is about money and power to Democrats. EVERYTHING
A6) It starts with the interview process. Including TLs in this allows them to see the areas in which the candidate may need support and development. Added benefit is the ownership they feel being a part of staffing the school. #satchat

@ruralreading, @specialtechie, @KThomasCES
A6: New Ts need to feel your support. It’s an emotional first year. You want to do it all but you have to walk before you can run. 1. Make sure they know you are a smile they can count on. 2. Patience because we all have had a first year 😬 #satchat
A6: By supporting mentor teachers as well a new teachers. Praise is great, clear systems and expectations are even better. I think one of the most important questions an admin/teacher leader can ask is "What can I help you with?" #satchat
This! Being able to feel safe when vulnerable w/o judgement from other colleagues can be a powerful tool to aid in professional growth. We expect it from our Ss, why not the T's too? #satchat
I have witnessed the power of this not just with our teacher expertise but with our support team that is behind the scenes. Having support staff share their expertise and lead mini-PD has lead to a total team approach. We are all working toward the same goal. #satchat
A4: Every staff member has areas of expertise, passions & knowledge. It is our job to help create the 'spark' and encourage staff to share these with others. @gcouros#satchat
A6 Teacher leaders must help new teachers be successful. Their colleagues are all a part of the success. Something as easy as helping new teachers learn norms of the school can be an opportunity for teachers to lead and build positive culture. #satchat
Q6: let them know what’s going on & ASK THEM! I can’t tell you how many events/opportunities I’ve seen happen that I would have LOVED to be involved/help with, but had no idea they were happening. Building & district level. TLs want to be involved. Communication is key! #satchat
Yes! Look around. Where do you see untapped resources? Find their strengths. When we tap into the strengths of all teachers we build a community of learners and leaders! #SatChat
A6 the best way to get your TL involved as mentors is to lighten their load in other areas. Give them the time to develop relationships with the new Ts #satchat
A6: Creating a solid new teacher and mentoring program that goes beyond a week long new teacher orientation is the first step. Including the TLs in running a PLC for new teachers is a great next step! #satchat
I think the strength is our focus--we have a focus based on positive student relationships, student happiness, meeting learning expectations, embedding new research, collaborating with community organizations. #satchat
A6: Set up time before the school year to meet in a comfortable/fun setting, set goals together, and put in time during the year to reflect back and adjust goals. #satchat
Q6: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of new teachers and mentor programs. How do you engage Teacher Leaders in a new teacher induction program and the mentoring process? #satchat
A6: When you work on a new program or project, always look to involve ALL people and give credit where credit is due. People never forget how you treat them. #satchathttps://t.co/jgKhtOGDMJ

A6 I feel like a failure to new teachers. With the hustle and bustle of my individual classroom, I tend to forget about my new colleagues. I need to do a better job of of dropping in their classroom or by inviting them in to my classroom to support. #satchat
A6 experienced teachers can provide guidance, mentorship and coaching on classroom efficiency and management ideas that can save the new/novice teacher years of self-learning iterations to "discover" on their own #satchat
Excellent visual representation- I think about the best leaders I know- both admin and teachers - and YES- they are IN the action- that's the key. Thank you! #satchat
A6: On a related note...
This semester I am happy to work w/a Student Teacher and he's getting a GREAT experience and lots of feedback and coaching.
I'm making a point to make sure he is uber included in as much as possible.
#satchat
#satchat A6: Positivity is contagious. Ask Teacher Leaders who are solution oriented to be mentors. Ask the quiet ones as well. Positive leadership comes in all volumes.
A6: We connect every new teacher with a mentor, & each school has a lead mentor who acts as liaison between protégés & mentors, we connect new Ts to personalized embedded PD through instructional coaching-multiple layers of support to develop and retain great teachers! #satchat
Q6: Teacher Leaders are essential to the success of new teachers and mentor programs. How do you engage Teacher Leaders in a new teacher induction program and the mentoring process? #satchat
A6: Mentoring new teachers is critical for the teacher leadership ecosystem! It not only builds expertise, but also models collaboration for students! #satchat check out my latest blog on building collaboration in the classroom! https://t.co/ScnyROIXsT#stem
A5 We all can learn from dynamic Ts when they are encouraged to be dynamic leaders too. Adults can be just like kids (off task, checking out, talking) during PD. Don’t have Ts sit thru boring ppt and lecture. Do what makes your Ss excited about learning. #satchat
Great point, Brian. I'm in a new school this year, and it's been so nice that all of my colleagues have the patience to put up with my 1000 questions. There's the handboook, then there's the norms of the school that aren't in there! #satchat
Coaches are often distanced from reality of school life--they spend a lot of time on fringes & much of their work is not helpful or timely given what's happening w/children & students. I think it's better to create strong teams that work w/children and work together too. #satchat
Q5: Teacher Leaders can help step into another person's perspective and help other's to see the world differently. Creating fishbowl moments, watching videos, reflecting together are ways to promote job-embedded PD. #satchat
A5 Similar to classroom, knowing strengths is key, encourage & highlight those strengths, suggest others observe & invite T to share w/ staff, then work to match Ts that would benefit from working together w/ some known, enderstood roles or criteria #SatChat
A6: Give teacher leaders control of planning NTO. They know best what new teachers need/want to know. Let them lead & inspire throughout the SY by continuing to support new staff #Satchat
A6: From Day 1 start with a simple introduction - let new staff know that everyone who's been here wants to see them succeed, but more importantly wants to be a part of their journey to get there #satchat
One yr the coach would come in dressed to perfection, show her lesson and then run out of the room leaving me to do the hard work of managing all Ss all day--it was like fiction rather than real-life teaching/learning. #satchat
It's a slippery slope. If it's felt to be punative, either the teacher is not open to trying new things to benefit the S's, or the coach is not actually coaching. #satchat I love this #Sketchnote to show what it should be. @LeeAraoz
A6: Face-to-face contact on a weekly basis... in addition to intentional discussion topics -- providing opportunities to share & reflect together #satchat#RU_EDEL#RU_EDET
A6 When setting up your student buddy mentoring initiative, pair veteran educators with new teachers to provide opportunities for growth and development #Satchat
#satchat Absolutely & people's definition of what a great teaam looks like. Each person must have a role to play on a team & leaders need to be clear on what those roles are & when they may change. Big fan of hiring great people & let them do their jobs! Learned that in military!
Coaches often spend lots of time working w/other admin talking about teachers, scores, curriculum rather than working w/students and teachers focused on positive goals, efforts. It's often a power-trip rather than true support. #satchat
A6: In my role, I've enlisted the help of TLs to collaborate across the district to set a shared vision and then provide support to all Ts in their buildings and empower more TLs - positivity has become viral! #Satchat#WO2World#ServantLeadership#sharedleadership
Coaches are often distanced from reality of school life--they spend a lot of time on fringes & much of their work is not helpful or timely given what's happening w/children & students. I think it's better to create strong teams that work w/children and work together too. #satchat
IDEA: Set up 5 min at the end of each faculty meeting for teachers to share what they are passionate about/using in class (tech tools, books, websites). No requirement, just sign up sheet , end meetings with something to explore yourself/resource. #satchat@KThomasCES@CyndiWms5
#SatChat Teacher leaders are professional. They do not gossip about each other behind each other's backs. Instead we are all transparent and vulnerable, and we create a safe place for one another just like we do in our classrooms for our Ss. This promotes TRUE growth. :-)
THANK YOU #satchat PLN
Today was a great convo.

A4: Some leaders are born. Some leaders need a gentle push. Some don’t even know they are a leader or believe they can be a leader.
Discover your leaders.
➡️Listen to those who want to lead
➡️Encourage others to lead
➡️Seek others’ strengths
➡️Believe in others
#satchat
A6: Providing time, resources and support for both the new teacher & coach is essential. Supporting effective, descriptive feedback and possible next steps is also important. #satchat
I understand where you are coming from, Maureen. I have worked in schools where the coaches are very distanced from the Ss and Ts. My current coaches are constantly in the classroom either talking with Ss or even modeling strategies during class. It all depends. #satchat
In reply to
@lookforsun, @turnerhj, @specialtechie
A6: Teacher leaders know how to fail forward and can help new teachers stay positive. Make sure your protégés have mentors who will support risk taking and can model this for them! #satchat
I love your honest reflection. This can be a goal for many of our veteran teachers- to reach out and intentionally connect with our new Ts deeper than just a smile in the hallway (although sometimes that’s all that they need!) #satchat
A6 all novice Ts thru their continuing contract status (3 years in Va) in #acps given coaching support from full time T coaches who are not a part of eval system or supervised by sch admin - a trusted relationship where talk is privileged within the T to T relationship #satchat
A6: get to know who the new teacher is so they can be matched appropriately. We give 2 hours teaching release in the first year plus 20 hours of professional development time. Teachers are encouraged to try new things and meet loads of new people in that time #satchat
Time-on-task w/Ss day after day is intense--yesterday outstanding T friend of mine from system other than mine told me one more devastating coaching story--coach came in w/latest article on how to teach, disrespected T's depth of knowledge, ridiculed her classroom. #satchat
A6. I mentor an experienced teacher-librarian who switched levels. I sent her welcome to HS gift. I sat w her to discuss program we both know but from HS perspectives. We mapped out things to do in 1st month. I contacted at 4.5 wk grading for helped needed/ comments #satchat
This is where Student-centered coaching cycles come in. The coaching is driven by the Ss & the T & coach work shoulder to shoulder to co-plan & co-teach for a cycle-could be 6weeks. @SweeneyDiane#SatChat

Thanks for an outstanding #satchat this morning! If you've got another 30 min and a set of headphones, listen to the Instant Relevance Podcast with @kareemfarah23 !! @Blended_Math and I hope you listen and share your thoughts with us afterward! #makeitrealhttps://t.co/bwZvDzZCzW
This is my biggest area of growth potential. It's hard to put yourself out there! This is why twitter and forming these networks has been so beneficial,. #satchat
Thanks for a good #satchat everyone. I think #TeacherLeaders also need time to unplug, relax, connect with family, and follow a creative path. Going to do that right now...
Sure! #pineapplecharts are from #hacklearning book Hacking Education. Ts add plans on board & other Ts visit. They can go during free periods, but we provide coverage if needed. #satchat
Good Morning #satchat
Please jump into #BookCampPD at our new day/time to discuss this amazing book, soon to be released! Hope to see you tomorrow evening!!
My job as a coaches as a partner in learning with the teacher where we work together to help our students meet learning target. Now I just need the opportunity to do just that!😊#SatChat
Excellent points. Agree! IOt also has to do with having the right people in the right positions. Know people's strengths and improve on their weaknesses. #satchat
That’s where coaching comes into play, trust but guide. Too many admin lose trust too fast in their people but that’s often because they aren’t guiding through the process. As a leader we need to look at ourselves first if our people are failing. #satchat
Thanks for sharing. I found that when I hired teachers in the building to coach (often part time) it worked really well. They had the respect of faculty. Additionally they provided support when necessary using Jim Knight’s model. #satchat
Q5-Learning needs to be more flexible for adults too! The 'anywhere, anytime' learning movement applies to all learners, regardless of age, position or setting. District & school leaders must model and transform development practices to continue advancing the profession.

#satchat A6: Positivity is contagious. Ask Teacher Leaders who are solution oriented to be mentors. Ask the quiet ones as well. Positive leadership comes in all volumes.
#SatChat Teacher leaders are professional. They do not gossip about each other behind each other's backs. Instead we are all transparent and vulnerable, and we create a safe place for one another just like we do in our classrooms for our Ss. This promotes TRUE growth. :-)
A6. In the past, I've been asked. But at the District level, one afternoon invite teachers to a new teacher meeting. Form partnerships...Ask for presentation #satchat

I'm not an admin, but I love hearing about the ones talking about staying away from the office area. The more admin can be out in the halls and classrooms, the better. #satchat
