Hi there #ohedchat friends! Jacki Prati here! Principal in Hilliard. The best PD I've even been a part of has to be the year I spent training to be a Literacy Coach!
Adam from Cincinnati - 7/8 grade history. The best PD I have been a part of is @owpmu Hands on learning and you create a writers notebook throughout the process. Great, useable tools #ohedchat
Timing is everything. We introduced this recently to our T's. Start, stop, continue. It is a great way to wrap up a year and think ahead to the next. @sixers#ohedchat
I'm Alyse, I'm a principal, best PD (besides #ohedchat) was #FETC. Has been an amazing conference both years I have attended. Came back with awesome ideas and inspired to change the world
Hello 👋🏾 Jodie. This is where it all started from for me. Right here at #Ohedchat and you welcomed me in my first twitter chat. #ForeverGrateful#PLNStrong
A1: Entering a new role next year, I hope to be able to focus (or re-focus) my efforts on continued to team building a collaboration. Going to explore new ways to connect, reach. #ohedchat
Interesting topic, #ohedchat! Australia has just released a report, part of which comments on the need for teacher learning but also the need for balance and consideration of workload. https://t.co/oiGVNUNNN1
A2) Can I say everything? I'm only in my first year, I can improve everything. If I have to pick one, staying up on "formal" teacher evals so I'm not drowning in paperwork at the end of the year. And reading more. #ohedchat
A1) giving feedback to help the learning process. I’m really bad in my timing of feedback and getting it back to students. Also being a better instructional leader for teachers to help students succeed #ohedchat
A1: I really want to improve in classroom management. I love having a laid back, energetic environment, but also want to keep it structured - fine line that I’m always trying to fine tune. Also continuing my journey towards mastery grading! #Ohedchat
A1: I need to do a better job of consistency with routines not only at the beginning of the year, but all year. I get lost in the planning/designing process of teaching and neglect consistency. Next year is my year to tie it all together #ohedchat
thanks for sharing this. I often remind those I work with to keep balance in the forefront of their lives. Have to have it. Only way we grow. #ohedchat
Would love to talk about how this can look in HS. It seems like this is difficult when kids receive letter grades unlike elementary school when we're looking at a more standards based approach. #ohedchat
A1) I need to learn more about data and what that means for helping teachers. I’ve spent the last eleven years helping kids, but I have to work more on ways to help teachers. I’ve made strides, but still have work to do! #ohedchat
The first question of #ohedchat sets the tone for 2-6. Stay with it! Grow. Have to find the bumps in the road before you can set the course we will drive down. #smoothsailing#professionaldevelopment
A1: I am always looking to keep better track of my commitments and find ways to communicate more effectively with the different stakeholders in my community. #Ohedchat
A1: Robin - IL, always room for improvement on connecting and building relationships w/Ss. As we count the days till Summer, some Ss may feel differently about the unstructured time. We can be the best part of their days. #ACEs#ohedchat
NO! You need time to reflect and really think about the ONE THING that you can change/improve that will impact others. We can't be great at everything all the time. Give yourself permission to start small. #ohedchat
A2: I have never attended a conference or edcamp. I just read, read, read and twitter chat it up. Is there a place/calendar to learn about when conferences and edcamps take place? Im sure people post in Twitter - maybe I need to pay more attention #ohedchat
A2) My dream conferences would be the @DisneyInstitute or @CoachKrzyzewski on leadership. Be an industry disruptor, be the best at what you do....take the best ideas on leadership and apply to education.
#ohedchat
A2 - You know what is killin me lately, is the cost of conferences. Difficult to afford the cost of a conference, travel and food. Sure we get some ProD funds but it doesn't come close to covering it any longer. #OHedchat
A2: Excited to head to the Google Summit Ohio in Cbus May 15-16, & stoked to attend the @Flipgrid live conference in Minneapolis July 31-Aug 2. Looking for ways to integrate tech in my ELA classroom for blended learning, Ss voice & collaboration! #OhEdChat
I think balance is important but for me, the best learning happens in the summer when I have fewer distractions and can clear my mind. #ohedchat
I am the educator I am today b/c of the great learning opportunities I've chosen for myself in the summer
I am with you. That is what keeps me back from attending some as well. Find an edcamp and/or find other ways to grow (Q3, Q4, might give you some ideas)! #ohedchat
A3: A long list of books to get to. Hoping to get my hands on @AllysonApsey 's new share or reading the book coming out by @smgaillard. Two great leaders, learners. #ohedchat
A3: Tina Feys Bossy Pants spoke to my soul! She is my hero and her book talks about stretching yourself too much and being awkward and just living your life
#ohedchat
A3: I really look forward to these answers. I am looking for some good summer reading. I still think my favorite teaching book was “See Me After Class” by @RoxannaElden (it was AWESOME) #Ohedchat
A3) loved Hacking Leadership, loving Creative Schools; personally Bossy Pants by Tina Fey and the fiction choice "I Don't Know How She Does It" for all the working moms #ohedchat
[BLOG] "End Your School Year with What Matters Most!" >> https://t.co/yITnwwjRB2
During the last month of school, learn something new about each and every one of your students that has absolutely nothing to do with their academic abilities.
#TeacherMyth#CultureEd#TXed#edchat
A3) just finished Formative five by @TomHoerr, really really good. On my list is Culturize from @casas_jimmy next. Extreme ownership from @jockowillink and Leaders Eat Last from @simonsinek are two that come to mind about having an influence #ohedchat
A3-If you haven't read Hillbilly Elegy, you must! I also recommend Make Your Mark by @coytecooper
On my list-The Power of Moments and Love Does ---both recommended by @SmalleyTech#ohedchat
I would say that we can still find balance in growing and pausing throughout the summer. If we could get better at it throughout the school year, we could be balanced year-round. Growth doesn't take timeouts. Has to be constant. #ohedchat
A3: A long list of books to get to. Hoping to get my hands on @AllysonApsey 's new share or reading the book coming out by @smgaillard. Two great leaders, learners. #ohedchat
I know what you mean and have done the same (including completing a PhD during nights, weekend and holidays), but we can also give ourselves permission to press pause. #ohedchat
Q4: Writing is an excellent way to grow within the comfort of your own space. Will you write?
Will you read others? Share out, shout out. What bloggers inspire you and why is that? #ohedchat
A3: I’ve been catching up on my middle gr reads this yr. Talking 📚with kids makes my 💜explode. My favorite stories were triumphs against all odds: The War that Saved my Life, A Boy Called Bat and The Wild Robot! My “someday” book pile continues to grow for summer! #ohedchat
A3 We Beat the Street; a nonfiction title about 3 African American boys promised college tuition by a benefactor, if they stayed out of gangs... they all made it to become prominent physicians. Inspiring YA nonfiction & a great read! #OhEdChat
A4-Blogging has helped me grow so much personally and professionally. I have written a weekly blog that I've sent to my staff once a week for the past two years. Putting a "ship date" on my blog forces me to pay attn to what I learn throughout the week so I can write #ohedchat
A4: Getting back to writing (more) is a must. Have to get re-connected with my inner-blogger. In the meanwhile, I continue to enjoy the PD suggestions from @RACzyz and @Jennifer_Hogan. #ohedchat
I love to write. There are many professional educational journals that take submissions! I want to write about my library transformation. #goals#ohedchat
A4: I would love to start contributing to a blog or a newsletter, but not sure where to start or where to look. I am also looking for great blogs to read. I am lacking here! #ohedchat
A4: I have blogged and written about my experiences as an educator because it helps me ...and hopefully other Ts. Are you interested in telling your story? Join the #MyOhioStory project! PM me for more info #OHedchat
A4 still trying to get the blog started. Please hold me accountable next fall. My blog will be up by August. There I have said it to the universe! Also, @KateMessner has a great Teacher writing group for the summer. #ohedchat
A4 - funny you should ask. I love writing and had a popular edu blog for a while, but after completing my masters, I just quit. Don't write anything any longer. Just this week I was thinking I should try and start posting again, but the mojo is gone. #ohedchat
A3: A More Beautiful Question by Warren Burger really shifted my thinking about the power of asking good Qs...and how to share that power with Ss. #OHedchat
Q4: Writing is an excellent way to grow within the comfort of your own space. Will you write?
Will you read others? Share out, shout out. What bloggers inspire you and why is that? #ohedchat
A4: I would love to start contributing to a blog or a newsletter, but not sure where to start or where to look. I am also looking for great blogs to read. I am lacking here! #ohedchat
A4. I've never written a blog to publish professionally; however, I never know what I might try next! There are so many great educators who write blogs, too many to share! #ohedchat
A4: I was doing a daily "Pablo & Paragraph" a couple of years ago--daily writing practice, reflecting on life overall as well as education. I want to get back to that. #ohedchat
Here is Q5 for #ohedchat: Action -
Right now set a goal, or three, for your summer growth.
Who can you bring along with you, in person or via being connected, and what is your "why"?
A4) I do much better with podcasts then I do with blogs. I’ve thought about throwing out the blog for a podcast. Can’t find tome to sit down and record though #ohedchat
A4: I shifted my weekly blog post writing to an email newsletter - Talk-OH-Tuesday which now goes out to almost 500 OH educators a week. Going to start cross posting it on https://t.co/g5VyGlyZXP and https://t.co/CYQ5o5uZdE#OHedchat
A5) set tasks in place to provide quick feedback to students and teachers for my new role to promote more collaboration, learning and student success #ohedchat
A4 (part 2) I've really enjoyed blogs by @pernilleripp and @thenerdyteacher. Their perspectives on strategies and approaches to teaching & learning have made an impact on my practice. #ohedchat
A4 Sharing out by blogging is so important to help our colleagues grow, but we should not put aside the value of journalling & writing for self reflection just a few minutes at a time to grow our own development! #ohedchat
A5: My goals for my summer of #professionaldevelopment are:
1. Attend a conference (@NASSP
and the Special Education EdCamp in Hilliard on June 21st hosted by @jodiepierpoint!
2. Blog (more) (Fueling-Education)
3. Relax with family and friends (golf)! #ohedchat#fore
A5: my goals: 1) read launch and shift this 2) plan out routines to create/maintain a student centered room consistently throughout the year 3) look at my first couple of units and redesign #ohedchat
A5: I'm not sure who to bring along with me. But the why is that students need to meet new people and have more real world experiences. I'm thinking of the Ecology Club at our high school. #ohedchat
Just stumbled upon this chat and noticed you were talking about education blogs. Some of you might be interested in https://t.co/hn7Dvdo9id@4OClockFaculty Touches upon a wide range of issues regarding teaching #ohedchat
Siorry to be a lurker. I’m Kristen from PA and I just saw blog and started reading and got carried away!!! I teach 6th grade science and just started blogging with them!! Love it!! #ohedchat
A5: Summer goals: 1. Continue stretching & growing through grad classes; 2. Get back into regular writing, both Pablo & Paragraph and blogging; 3. Dig into some of the professional reading I've set to the side right now. #ohedchat
A5: Summer Learning Goal: I am going to tend to the science teacher in me by becoming SECO District 3 director...so...want to really work on planning for some exciting science Ts support and engagement in NE Ohio. #OHedchat
A5-Last summer I read 8 books! I want to read at least that many this summer! The reading I do in the summer frames my mindset for the school year! #ohedchat
A5) 1-read at least 3 professional books. Prepare to lead a staff book study for next year. 2- reflect and take the time to make necessary changes from year 2-day 1. And 3- ☀️👙🏰🌐
#ohedchat
A4 Agreed! I love @pernilleripp for her socially conscious posts to help us grow in awareness of all learners, & @gcouros has EDU posts that are on point every time for current needs! #ohedchat

A5. My goals for summer:
1. Finish reading Teach like a Pirate
2. Might join another book study over summer!
3. Spend time with family and friends!
#ohedchat
Last question for #ohedchat: Before you can grow this summer you have to celebrate the year wrapping up. Have a plan?
Share some celebrations you are about to embark on. What goals have you reached?
Goals: Be the best mama to my almost-middle schooler, read boatloads of #kidlit, attend several edu conferences w my awesome @WinTrailCW people. Why? Pouring into my passion! 💕
#ohedchat
I'll have to look into these titles, too. I know I want to read another @BreneBrown book. So much of what she says applies not only to personal life but also education. #ohedchat

@Jacki_prati, @Vroom6, @coytecooper, @SmalleyTech, @BreneBrown
A5: Goals for the Summer:

4. Reading “A Gentleman in Moscow”
#ohedchat#familytime#readingforpleasure
So true! I had a box on my porch today and my husband noticed that I've had a box every day this week. Might start having things delivered to the neighbor #ohedchat

A6 I read somewhere to find out something you didn’t know about each student before year is over. Ending with the most important thing in education...building relationships #OHedchat

A6 Students won’t remember what content you taught them but they will always remember how you made them feel! End the year building those relationships!#ohedchat
A5: meet the teaher video for parents. Break down state stand to assessable concepts. Developing STEAM club, writing rubric for blog posts! My goal by the end of year is 4 blog posts about form assess, station model, mean beh vs bullying, and my exp. blogging with ss! #ohedchat
A6) submitted a conf proposal on creating The Think Lab area in our school. Hoping to showcase the innovation we have infused this year. And also, party like it's 1999
#ohedchat
Thank you for being a part of #ohedchat this evening. Finish strong, set a plan for your summer, find balance and share your story. Thanks for all you do, friends. You make me better every day.
A6: We always end the year with our annual end-of-the-year awards! Its corny and cheesy, but the kids like it and we all end on a happy note! #ohedchat
Thanks @Vroom6 and while I'm sorry that I accidentally stole your original topic and used it last week, I must say you pulled through with a great chat tonight! #ohedchat
Thanks @Vroom6 for a great chat. I will have to spend the next hour looking at all the great resources that were mentioned tonight. Have a great week all! #ohedchat
A6: Mother’s Day Weekend...my daughters and I are going to plant flowers @ our youngest daughter’s home she bought last fall and at our house. Lots of walking trails! Nothing like #family time to ground myself! #ohedchat
