#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
Hey #edtechchat, It's 1am on Monday morning and noticed the chat was on. William here from sunny Scotland, joining the chat after a busy day of moving house
Thanks 4 some great ideas. It's still so hard--even for univ pre-service educators to allow themselves to be in different places with tech within their cohorts. Also, some tools suit task/pedagogy--others don't. Can't be the proverbial person with a hammer! #edtechchat#edte431
I would focus on the learning need first. How it should drive the #edtech selection process. Moreover, stress the need for patience, think baby steps. Finally, that everyone's experience will be different, it is OK to fail and to try something different. #edtechchat
Frances from Texas... #notatISTE2018
Father recently had cornea transplant, so I’m helping my parents. Looking forward to next year in Philadelphia! #edtechchat
Why thank you Alex, #EdTechChat always feels like home... even though I'm not able to attend all that often these days.
But still working on ideas and insights that I've picked up through listening and learning to this awesome edu chat!
I have found it is sometimes easier to hit the large conferences when they are closer to home - and use @Airbnb when traveling to save money #edtechchat
A1 I'm #notatiste18 this year to spend time with family and to work on personal projects. Additionally, because hashtags do not need reservations, lodging, or long inspection lines. Therefore, I can learn just as much at a distance from my #PLN. #edtechchat
a1 I cheer on ISTE conferences from home. I always like to bring up this pic when I present to math eds so they can see how ISTE fits with their other standards. #edtechchat
This needs to change... I have no idea why tech companies spend so much on their corporate spam and don't realise the amount of love they'd get from educators if they supported them to #Get2ISTE... it baffles me?! #EdTechChat
A1 I am #notatiste18 : ( no funding. i would so love to be there. Next year it is within driving distance for me so I will definitely be there. #edtechchat
Hi, Leslie! If you use TweetDeck it does make it easier to follow. Or you can search the hashtag #edtechchat and click "latest" it helps you keep up with all the tweets! #iTeachDigital
I was literally checking flight and #iste18 single day prices today since a friend of mine has an extra hotel bed. Too much. :( #NotatISTE18#edtechchat
A2: I really didn't know much about #iste18 or how to follow so now that i've been introduced to it, I think I will definitely follow online! #edtechchat
There are a lot of rules about funding from schools and getting sponsored. It has to be through a non-profit in most cases, and there is nothing really set up to bring people to conferences #edtechchat
When looking into the “best #EdTech apps for teachers”, so many sources have numbers of 20, 50, 100+ “best apps”. That’s a beefy list. How does it feel when finding those lists? Helpful? Stressful? #EdTechChat
Thanks. Though very (VERY) rustic it is a place where we go to relax and recharge. Great ideas pop into my head when floating, splashing, and reading. #edtechchat
A2: It's been easy to stay connected with #iste18 because of the hashtag, but it would be nice to live stream some events! #edtechchat We'd always like to know more!
yes - tweetdeck is one of the preferred methods for #edtechchat - the other is @participate - and we have a big announcement from them later in the chat :)
A2: Although I am #NotAtISTE18, I have stayed connected by using Twitter and Voxer. I wish I could be there but I’m thankful to still be connected. #edtechchat
A2: im more of a middle ground it is easy at times and hard others. i think that because some people tweet or post alot so you can follow really easy. Other times i feel like i missed something big because i cant follow the story per se #edtechchat
A1 it's not a question of wether it's easy but, if I have the time. I show horses and so do my kids so we are outside a lot during the summer.
#edtechchat
I’m sure all you have to do is ask them. Look and see which platforms you use have a booth and tell them you would like to come and help them out. #edtechchat
Yeah, but I worked out the level of support that connected educators provide to tech companies they are fans of and worked out at as much as $80,000 over a 2-3 year period... then people can't get to a conference?
How much value does #edTechChat deliver through referrals?
Large conferences are something you should experience at least once- but it is really about the people and the connections you have before and after #edtechchat
That is so true, so is this something that would be under professional development? If so, is it difficult for schools to send teachers because of the high cost? #edtechchat
I need to see how you computed that - it is an amazing number! that alone is worth selling to the major conferences to point how they need to get more funding to get teachers there #edtechchat
True. There is great energy and a wealth of ideas. However, I prefer the regional conferences. Smaller, closer, and more opportunities to meet with some great PLN rock stars. #edtechchat
A3 Honestly, I could not tell you. For me real learning and honest #PD happened at the Bloggers Cafe, when meeting face-to-face with my tweeps for the first time and throughout the experience. #edtechchat#notatiste18
A2) I find there is a lot of talking that goes on at ISTE but doesn't appear to be much listening on SM would love to see every link curated and organised well #edtechchat
We are a weekly twitter chat that is 5 years strong looking to connect educators, technologists, and sometimes vendors to provide a community that puts learning first. #edtechchat
You have just unearthed the power of the edu Twitter chats. Great ideas from talented educators from all over. #edtechchat, a 7/11 for all your learning needs. #Open247
Yes, I'm seeing more people going into smaller "Communities of Practice" and working with a smaller tight knit group... and to good effect too. #EdTechChat
I have often learned more about tech from on week on Twitter than I typically learn in a year's worth of PD from other sources combined & I love the instant tech support #edtechchat
There is a strong pedagogical practice in what you described. Small groups, focused on common interests, and plenty of time to connect. Good for learners of all ages. #edtechchat

I unfortunately have to duck out early but I will read all the amazing tweets later this evening! It was my first but certainly won't be my last! Thank you all! #edtechchat
Noticed that this is what happened with the early online communities, and read about what I feel the future might look like via @ThisIsNewPower and @BuurtzorgBI's example, both are worth a look... as are some of @tamcdonald's #Cmgrhangout sessions. #EdTechChat

A4: Librarian Learning Lunch, tomorrow afternoon. Looking for new tech tools for critical thinking and creativity to integrate in the fall. #edtechchat#opsitl
Every experience I've had at conferences comes from the personal connections made. Most of the smaller ones make that possible, while larger ones say they do.

A5: *looks at list of new follows. Looks around to see if any of those people are paying attention right now.*
All of them are equally cool! #edtechchat
Delighted I joined the #ISTE18#EdTechChat, forgot how much fun it is to get side tracked into the side convos... but sucked entirely at trying to keep up with that conversation and the number of Tweets.
'Could do better' ...now where have I heard that before, Hmm I wonder? Lol
