#PLN365 Kanako joining in from Vietnam before students get to school! We started our year on August 6th so we've been back for a month now :D It's been a whirlwind trying to settle into a routine!

Jeremy, parent in Connecticut. My girls started Wednesday last week. Younger one had early dismissal today because of the heat. Either we need air conditioning in all schools or later start times! #PLN365
A1: one of the most effective things we do is hold Freshman Parent Orientation meetings all summer in small groups. It’s a 90 minute meeting with max 30 families. It’s hugely impactful at high school. #pln365
A1) Look at the man in the mirror and make sure that he believes in, understands, and models the expectations that are aligned with the vision of student success. #pln365
A1. Got rid of seating charts. Going to be randomly assigning kids to different areas of the room in different groups so we learn to work together. Sent my traditional welcome email to all Ss and families, ending with I look forward to learning with you. #pln365
A1: To create a positive classroom culture, I started the year with clean/bare walls because my students' background and work will covered the walls
#pln365
A1 The way it is set up, the entry to my room, have positive signs with quotes, also by sending welcome messages to students through our system to greet them before arriving #pln365
a1: student names were posted on the window leading to the classroom - they knew they were in the right spot. Me smiling and excited, and knowing as many names as possible #pln365
A1) Have lots of vibrant colours around the room to create a brighter space. Have student names posted / desks & cubbies labeled so Ss feel welcomed. Create Wonder/Q wall so Ss know Qs and wonderings are encouraged! #PLN365
A1: I have a collection of posters (some math, some inspirational, some fun) to show my character. I set up my room in a U to facilitate discussion. I try to makes the room "presentable" for day 1. #PLN365
A1: I had a wonderful PD day with staff. We got to know one and other, we talked and said real things, identified our "why", and we created a very positive energy to help us start the year off with a bang! #pln365
A1: A positive environment begins with our preparation before the year begins. How am I spending my time in the "offseason"? What am I filling my mind with? What am I watching/reading? The overflow from my mind and heart will go to the students. #pln365
A1) Ensure that everyone understands that we are a collaborative team that will determine the culture and outcomes of the students in our school. #pln365
A1: Last summer we held this SnoCones with the Counselors and gave #B2S pencils to those Ss who were able to come; it was a fantastic way to connect and play before we got back to work! #pln365
Introduce some literature my Ss might enjoy better, given the themes.
Reinstating the Senior Memory Book project.
Rearranged the room for flexible seating.
Will convey my enthusiasm and desire to have them complete projects rather than just typical assessments.

Hi all! Kristen here from PA! Late because my colleague @ScottOste distracted me with bitmoji. I teach 6th grade physical science. Not to brag or anything, but I may just attempt a lunge tomorrow... so if I don't show up to #122edchat you know I didn't make it... 😂 #pln365
I do not have a classroom. However, before I enter a classroom, I have a positive attitude and high expectations. I am there to work with the classroom teachers to help meet the needs of the students. #pln365
A2: Passion, joy, love, energy, music, playfulness, connection. Too many to name but so important that school family members feel welcomed, that they want to pull up a chair and stay there with us.
Ukulele anyone?
#pln365
A2: EXCELLENCE is our standard. In all that we do. Wherever we go. Whoever we talk to. No matter the task, the students in our program understand what their target is on stage, in the classroom, at home, and in the community. 24/7. #pln365
#pln365 Jerry Toups HS math Tr from the Houston area. Since 1990 my 1st rule has been #AlwaysBelieve in Yourself. #itworks A1 My classroom is my happy place. I inspire kids to #BELIEVE with #Positive mantra. My room décor sets the tone right when they enter on day 1.
A3) collaboration, helping each other out, encouraging each other. Recognising that everyone has something to offer to the learning environment and respecting it. #PLN365 (I don't know if that's even a behaviour but it's important!)
A3: Honestly, to be active and alive. To take risks and try. To not just sit there and learn through osmosis. To laugh with me, roar when I ask you to roar, hit the tambourine when I ask you to hit it.. 😂 To be a part of the community. #pln365
A3: Listen with your eyes and your ears. If we are going to work together, we need to hear what people saying/not saying. Be willing to compromise to help your team get the win. It's not always about you. #pln365
#pln365 This is my personal flowchart to create intrinsic learners in my room. #ItWorks My 3 values are... 1. BE POSITIVE (This is a choice!) 2. BELIEVE in your students 3. LOVE your students for who they are. #AlwaysBelieve
9 years in, and there are days (like today) where I want to yell because Ss are not working after repeated attempts. Have to remember, it's not personal (they do it to their other Ts too 😂) #pln365
A4: I am super dee duper loud. And I try new things. You know, like blogging with @edublogs, @Flipgrid, @Peardeck, @Screencastify and @Quizziz all within the first week of schoo! And it wasn't too much of a disaster!!! #pln365
A4: Mr. Abramczyk saw beyond "the masks" and "the fronts" to see who I really am. He spoke truth, even if painful to hear. He did not let me settle for less than what I was capable of achieving. He never gave up on me. Plus, his laugh. Always laughing, at everything. #pln365
A4 I work hard to make it a welcoming, comfortable space, have fun with learning, create different learning activities and spend time connecting with students #pln365
I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to each of you for joining #pln365 tonight and to @PaulONeill1972 for giving me the privilege of moderating! Have a terrific week!
#pln365
I opt for the disappointed dad voice. It works wonders (for a little while anyway). They worry more about disappointing than getting yelled at. #pln365
#pln365 A3 My goal each year is for my Ss to describe my words and actions with the Fruits of the Spirit. When you are able to do this, your classroom takes on a dynamic positive force that can be felt.
#pln365 A4 My 1st rule #AlwaysBelieve in yourself has had a profound impact on my Ss. Over 29 years of teaching I have been able to see this rule impact them well beyond after they were in my room. I EVEN WROTE A BOOK! "The Story of Always Believe" coming this fall!
I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to each of you for joining #pln365 tonight and to @PaulONeill1972 for giving me the privilege of moderating! Have a terrific week!

Aaah! Sorry I’m joining late-got tied up with emails. I’m Mary and I teach developing English learners.
A4: 20 yrs from now my Ss will remember how I made them feel like family...and with family comes tough love, care, desire to help them do bigger and better things. #pln365
A1: Initially I put plastic instruments on my desk because well, why not. Well, now they get used each and every day as I play a song as the ss walk in or just because I feel like it. 😂 #pln365
Paul from NJ here. That list is long. Can't narrow it down to one but I appreciate the role that everyone plays in my development as well as the investment that people have made in me. #pln365#CultureEd
