Yes, 12pm, on a nice sunny winters day :)
Awesome! https://t.co/sOSjqfH9gN
started group for Elementary Technology Educators in case you are interested in joining
that's good ... I have questions ... lol
To all our friends, please welcome Jennie Bourgeois from Louisiana. Moving from HS to 4th this year.
that pokemon thing is really taking off. Do you have a link to where I could find out more about it?
Hey, my dear friend, Billy. Someone was looking at my sticker on my computer and said, “You went?” I sure did!
Yes! We have a two week break now :)
That was a great time! We need to get you to the next one!
Q1: What's something new that you will be trying in school this year?
. Wow, thanks for making truly international this evening. What time is it there?
12pm Tuesday here :) My Monday has been and gone.
Hi, Erica! Back from your wonderful vacuum with hubby? Looks like you two had blast.
you find the best articles!
. Could use some winter temps right now here in New Orleans, LA.
A1 Not new because I do this, but want to incorporate more STEM activities into my lessons
A! -- Weekly Homework Choice Board is something I am going to try out new this year with 4th grade
How are you? Taking it easy this summer?
Top news story tonight - how criminals are luring innocents to “bad” places to rob them.
Love the idea of choice w/ homework. Feel like sharing some of your choices? https://t.co/9fuhNNL6Ol
A! -- Weekly Homework Choice Board is something I am going to try out new this year with 4th grade
Hey ... Sammy from MI checking in late.
A1: I REALLY want to try student Edcamps this school year! Learned about them today at NerdCamp!
I’m hoping that is a possibility. I need to “see” you and your family, and all my peeps.
Hi Sammy - very informal tonight so chime in when you like! Glad you made it.
A1: Also going to try positive behavior strategy w/students earning BEADS to make keychains .. what you think??
That is a loaded questions and depends lol. In part yes and in part no but loving the time with my daughter.
. Today.I created my first hyperDoc to share with my Ss on the Presidential Election.
Sure I have a draft document I created .. would love your feedback if you want me to email you a copy?
I like the https://t.co/YgpzSFw11G the Ss will love the keychains-a gr8 motivator.I have trbl managing things like that.
Great thanks - I'll DM my email shortly. :)
Hi, where is MI? I am from NZ :)
Hi Erica - Summer is going great. Have been away a bit & to several weddings. Lots of fun!
So glad you are taking time to spend with her! This is when it's really nice to be a teacher-time w/ fam.
I saw your doc - it's excellent. Is it called a Hyper doc because it has links?
Hope you had a great Monday. LOL Still have hours of our Monday left.
I am on the hunt for great blogs, any suggestions?
A1: Going to try and regularly participate in the that has set up.
No worries, Sammy. No formal topic tonight, just chatting.
I really want to go even more paperless this year too! Working hard to incorporate a lot of Google into my prep!
This is something I am wanting to do too. Google docs etc helps a lot
also really trying to dive into flexible seating. My classroom is tiny and full of ss but I'm working hard on the space!
It is fun and my students loved it. does a great job with ! https://t.co/crKsGUP9Fr
A1: Going to try and regularly participate in the that has set up.
That could definitely happen. Is the Krakower Kastle accepting visitors? LOL
Q2: What's the homework policy in your school?
The Krakower Kastle!!! Love it!!! :)
Ss - refers to 'students' Ts - refers to Teachers Ps are parents. Saves characters.
A2: our homework policy is pretty vague. We are a title 1 school with a high population of students in poverty. I try to avoid HW!
It’s a GDoc with assignments and links out to other websites, tools, etc. where Ss complete tasks.
A2: besides reading every night and practicing math facts and spelling of course!
Are you using Google Classroom? Are you 1:1? Love the paperless idea too!
anyone who wants me to email them a copy of my draft homework choice board for your feedback send me your email address please
Yes, hyperdocs are a way of mashing the use of creative websites together into a workflow for Ss.
Where would we be without GDocs. Makes life so much easier!
A2: We don't have a specific policy, each teacher has their own philosophy and works with that.
Thanks! It’s a team effort! With everyone participating :) Great group of teachers! is “daBomb!” to work with
Don't be afraid to ask - we all got started this way & has THE best folks willing to help/share.
Thanks, Sylvia. Thinking I could do something similar as a lesson path.
I think I might have enough Chromebooks to be 1:1 next year & thought I'd set a daily agenda in Classroom.
I love ... Also using has helped! I use it for everything!!'
A2: We’re having a debate over homework with my team this year. My biggest is READ every night! I like the choice boards too.
How do you find the Chromebooks? Is your internet connection awesome?
You took the words right out of my mouth! Was going to mention it would make a great lesson Plan on Symbaloo
I agree, reading is the most important!
Not sure why I didn't do it more last year! Looking forward to being more regular.
A2: I think homework is expected somewhat but I am going to let them decide when during the week to do it and what options to do
Do you have tables? Desks? Flexible seating can make a diff for so many kiddos.
They are great resources for the classroom !
Actually, we have until the 2017-2018 school year to start teaching cursive again. They had to give us time to fit it in.
We have wireless connection which is mostly gr8. I rec'd 8 chromebooks thru
Yes, shout out to too, Thank you, both!
That's such a shame! No sense having chromebooks if internet is shaky
I’ll be doing as much paperless as I can with . Love that GDocs integrates within it.
Yes, we use cursive in grades 2-8. We use
This document is amazing It shows hard work and effort - kids are sure to love it! https://t.co/oilw7cpnvC
Yes, hyperdocs are a way of mashing the use of creative websites together into a workflow for Ss.
Anyone have any experience with MobyMax or Raz-Kids .. good/bad? I am a 4th grade newbie and exploring options
used MobyMax this year. Kids enjoyed it, but prefer creating things w/ tech to share their learning.
I've heard good things about Moby Max but haven't tried it yet... Would be interested in it!
I was thinking of assigning "Read Alouds" w/ their parents - what do you think?
Instead of calling it HW, I’m going to call it Family Time.
Family time - Ss read to siblings, parents, or self. play math games, create and do challenges, explore a passion.
Cursive or Keyboarding? We are struggling with both - too much on our plates. Kids WANT to learn
I like that. Is that to encourage parent involvement?
Oh, friends! SO sorry to be late. I just had dinner with the amazing as she passed through town!
Family Time can also have them watch and critique a TV show or movie. Make a dish share a recipe. So many possibilities.
Rding the "Read Aloud Handbook" by Jim Trelease to be more consistent this year But want to involve Ps
Fabulous! Think they could read into too. Take pic of book & add audio!
That's good to hear! iPads are great too! Love all the creating you can do with them.
Just attended wkshp and was told research shows HW does nothing to help learning! Games for family it is! https://t.co/dHryae2EaU
Instead of calling it HW, I’m going to call it Family Time.
This is to encourage family interaction, free choice, play time and good fun. I’m tired of HW battle.
Just read the Book Whisper this weekend
How about having mystery Ps come to read books to class? Ss loved trying to figure out who was coming!
That's pretty much what's happening due to PARCC
Jeenis, what to have our Ss challenge each other to see if they can complete the 40 book challenge.
That book is sooo inspirational!!! Will be reading "Reading in the Wild" soon! https://t.co/tHvOVoirUl

Just read the Book Whisper this weekend
The one book every Ts should read and reread often. Love Book Whisper.
I know they do that in 2nd - never thought of doing it in 4th. Will think on that. Thx
Well, hello there! How's the weather down there? What a beautiful place! I'm in the rolling hills of S Indiana.
Parents' perception of what HW should be is so diverse. Some want none, some want a lot, some help, other do not. Such a challenge
It’s hard with work schedules, I tried to be as flexible as possible. My mom read over Skype each day too!
If Ps can’t come in, have them FaceTime or GHO into the class to read.
I thought about doing it .. not sure the school climate/culture yet to know what admins would think
absolutely! In a perfect world, we wouldn't be constrained by silly money! Lol!
What a great idea! Thanks!
This is such a true statement Sylvia - hard to figure out that 'fine' line that works for all. https://t.co/a3ug3Y2FM9

I’m not making it mandatory, just really pushing my Ss to try it. No grade involved.
Had mystery reader send in 3 clues. I gave a clues out during the day they were coming to read. fun!
That's a place I would LOVE to visit. There's a class there that does a 24hr Skypeathon! We always participate!
I feel the same about summer assignments. Completely changed it this year-more family oriented and fun https://t.co/mVw8f9MxCf

agreed…had complaints that there wasn’t enough as well as too much this year. Yikes! Tried to do the best 4kids!
- any other must read books for 4th grade teachers?
That book is in my Amazon wish list. Read the sample & thinking I need it.
Heading out early. Thanks for another great
Hi Jennie! My coworker adores MobyMax. Lots of info and it's free! We use Reading a-s and Raz Kids. Great site too.
That sounds like fun!! Did you do it once a week?
I'm thinking it would be fun to invite admin and board members also!!
Read "The Kid Who Ran for President" before November!
Yikes! Sorry I held you up! It was great catching up with you and chatting in person! Enjoy :) https://t.co/VTx72iQpmD

Hi Jenn. So glad to “see” you here. How are the ball games going?
I see a lot about Teach Like a Pirate. What is it all about?
Tried for 2 times a month. Time was an issue this past year :( No excuses this year.
Lost in the championship game- but lots of fun and team bonding.
Perhaps even invite local seniors from the senior center. I would like to make more community connec.
Great shares! Thanks ya’ll. Pup needs that walk :) At least it’s not as sweltering now :) Have a great evening!
Hey, that’s what’s great about being an “old” Ts. We can get away with things. LOL
Definitely! And if either of you are traveling near Columbus, OH, we have to meet up!
Aw, shucks! Glad it was a fun time anyways.
Glad you came by - thanks for sharing your ideas! See you soon.
