Interested in student-driven classrooms? Join Dr. Nancy Sulla @nsulla (author of Students Taking Charge, Its Not What You Teach But How, Building Executive Function: The Missing Link to Student Achievement, and more) and educators from all over in #LATICchat on Thursday nights at 8pm ET. We hope to bring together a community of educators to share insights, stories, examples, pictures from their classrooms, and more. We welcome all educators to join; no need to be running a #LATIC classroom.
Good evening and welcome to #LATICchat I am excited to be leading the chat tonight on higher order questioning in a student driven classroom! Let's get started!
A2) I plan to imbed the three from Executive Functioning “what if, what else suppose” as I launch an ALU related to the Declaration of Independence #LATICchat
A2-I love the metacognition questions. What would you do differently next time? What made you make that choice? Is there a different possible outcome? #LATICchat
A3-Embedding activities in the activity list that require students to question one another when working through the problem. Using stems are a great way to differentiate and model. #LATICchat
A4 Meta??'s force S's to look at what they have done as well as why. This fits into the growth mindset of improving from mistakes and failures instead of giving up or surrendering. I ask S's to look at other S's work and what they would do differently and why? #LATICchat
A4) meta cognitive questions personalize the learning process for each Student. There are no wrong answers. Their thoughts matter. My favorite is “ What does this make you want to know /do as a result of what you learned ?” #LATICchat
Most definitely! You set the bar high they will reach it! Higher Order Questioning pushes them to think beyond the answer that is most obvious or right in front of them and instead think about possibilities. #LATICchat
Are the HG's set or do they change? Mine change frequently so S's dont fall into the same roles I have pushed alot of HG work and reflection this year. #LATICchat
