A1: Preferred form of media...digital is where I’m at currently although I love to get my creative boots on and paint if I have some time. #WhatIsSchool
A1 I talk to students a lot about the studio in their back pocket. revealing the creative potential of the devices means they can create anywhere, anytime. Do we do the same? #WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool Writing, absolutely- I write two blogs, I write in a journal daily and love to write poetry and short-stories. My muse, life- my spark, mindfulness and my joy - words and language
A1: I love expressing creativity with food, #sketchnoting, interior design, creating digital images, appsmashing...so many ways I love to create! #whatisschool
A1 #whatisschool If I am not writing I am painting or coloring- I have tons of colored pencils and can sit for hours coloring mandalas and in awesome coloring books
A1 I also think valuing the medium we. and our students, use to express themselves is an important idea. Valuing creative output is related to valuing the person. #WhatIsSchool
Nice. I'm seeing this really moving forward with digital drawing, chalkboard writing, etc. It's exciting. The visual communication possible in font is a great connection to visual literacy. #WhatIsSchool
I love it to! I've been so lucky to be teaching it for the past couple of years at school. So great to watch 10 olds getting on saws etc for the first time. #WhatIsSchool
Hi there! Courtney from Arkansas here! I have been teaching upper elementary for 15 years, but I am moving into the media center and creating my school’s first #makerspace#whatisschool
Jami from Gothenburg, Nebraska! I teach 2nd-6th grade art; HS graphic design, photography, painting; assistant Coach VB; head coach 7th grade girls basketball; on the blended learning team & executive council! #WhatIsSchool
I have always brought my bag of tools to school and in many cases I create the opportunity for kids to use power tools for the first time. #whatisschool
A1 As a kid, being allowed to experiment freely with musical instruments was key for me. Had I started with traditional “strict” lessons, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much. #whatisschool
A1: I love expressing creativity with food, #sketchnoting, interior design, creating digital images, appsmashing...so many ways I love to create! #whatisschool
A2 I use some of my favorite photos to decorate my classroom when I can. I go in spurts using them for writing prompts. I’ve also used some for summer thank you notes. #whatisschool@ShiftParadigm@art_cathyhunt
A2 This is an important question, because sharing a little of ourselves, in a way we feel comfortable, and at the right time, can support relationships. 1/2
#WhatIsSchool
A1 Faige here from Los Angeles. Almost done with my kindercamp job. Always loved to doodle, but now writing on my blog keeps those creative juices flowing. #whatisschool
A2 reminds me of the H Gardner work around the idea that what you like & what I like is irrelevant in terms of the similarities. It's perhaps discussing the differences that mater. That's the start of an educational experienc, empathy, understandiong #WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool I write about my class all the time. In class I write articles to inspire my students to write them for our class magazine-I write poetry about science and share them as well. I integrate writing and science for my students-they need to express themselves in writing
A2: Creating is infused into everything I do, and I absolutely love seeing my Ss come alive as they are able to express their learning in various ways! They inspire me so much! #whatisschool
#whatisschool. A2 Always share my photos (even family) with Ss. Encourage them to take photos too. (Have 1 to 1 ipads so can keep own folders). Share my poetry serious and fun. Always making fun poems upon the spot. Ss join in extend do own
A3: what limits my creativity in the classroom? Honestly, teaching the young ones and sometimes the upper school zaps my energy during the year. Its communities, connections and relationships help me recharge #WhatIsSchool
A1 As a kid I loved anything nontraditional. I loved projects where I could express my understanding of content through creating songs and making movie trailers with a digital camera! #whatisschool#CEP416
A2: I use sketches on my anchor charts and have my kiddos create #sketchnotes to help them remember content. But I also like to have what I call “doodley-do” time where I teach the kids different little doodles that they can use in their notes and journaling. #whatisschool
A1: I love to draw, paint, &decorate during the summer when I have time! #whatisschool I do get to use some of these skills creating PD, planning events, and my Instructional Coach’s newsletter during the school year. I have to have a creative outlet!
A4: maybe i should have read q 4 before i answered q3, what do i do during the school year? Pinterest, Talk to friends in my PLN, my wife is wonderful about lifting me up, read articles and books, happy hours help too. #WhatIsSchool
When I worked with preschoolers, I had the school age kids while my Ss napped. Best part of that job was they thought I was an Olympic athlete:) Love the clear lense my Ss view the world through:) #WhatIsSchool@ShiftParadigm My first graders now often ooo over my coloring:)

A2 unfortunately find that at school (I’m in admin) I very rarely utilize my creative side. I get too caught up in what has to be done and ask others to step in for the creative piece 😔#whatisschool
Hi, I'm Marissa, an education student at Michigan State. i express my creativity through music--playing the violin and piano, something I hope to incorporate in my future classroom. #whatisschool#CEP416
Kristen here late because I just cleaned up what I hope is the last barf of the day. 4 year olds give you no warning so there was barf everywhere today! Aaaaak!!!! #whatisschool
Q2 often... Photography is a great way of documenting our student growth, advocating for our programs, communicating with parents and personal work! #whatisschool
A2: I use more computer generated images, fonts, and pictures during the school year. I also enjoy creating lessons and writing as an IC! 😍 #whatisschool
Chris, I agree with this completely! I find it helpful when things become overwhelming to try and ask students questions and have conversations about their personal interests outside of school to take a step back and collect myself and my ideas. #whatisschool#CEP416
A3: what limits my creativity in the classroom? Honestly, teaching the young ones and sometimes the upper school zaps my energy during the year. Its communities, connections and relationships help me recharge #WhatIsSchool
A3 creativity’s so personal so it’s hard to share with others at times. Easier with students though. They are always willing/ready to accept. #whatisschool
#whatisschool. Agree. One of my on the spot poems I just made up
What is school is cool to share
Be adventurous if you dare
Tell other educators what you do
And don't forget to share about others too

A3: negativity. When they say, well that won’t work because... or when I Feel like I am the only one with the crazy ideas. But Twitter chatting helped me with that. Now I know I am not the only one, I don’t need reassurance from my colleagues. #whatisschool
Have you seen Won't You Be My Neighbor? It was AMAZING! Such a good reminder of kindness. I met Mr. Rogers in college. It was an amazing moment I will never forget. #WhatIsSchool@ShiftParadigm

A3: i hate excuses but T I M E! Also I view Ss as my main focus. I want to see them improve based on their own creativity and not mine. W/ adults - we all think we are right. That’s tough! #WhatIsSchool
A3 When things are hectic at school I struggle with being creative. I put my creativity on hold especially during marking periods. My goal this year is to work creativity in to make me more efficient in completing those tasks. #whatisschool@ShiftParadigm@art_cathyhunt
A3 The energy required for teaching is epic. Sometimes making 'alongside' the students can provide an outlet, projects where you are a part of the process/product? #WhatIsSchool
Hi, Rebecca here from Maryland! A3: My creativity is hampered by the the daily grind at school and stuffy colleagues! I'd say my personality is how I express my creativity. With Ss I try to incorporate quirky things- drawings, stories, pop culture #whatisschool
I love when my first graders tell me they watched my @Phillies the night before, when I know they were sleeping during the game:) #whatisschool They also know I love unsweet tea mixed with lemonade. @ShiftParadigm

A1:I like to write. When I was in ms and HS I wanted to be a writer. No fear of being vulnerable. I started a blog and have a few posts, but it is definitey more intimidating being so personal as an adult! #WhatIsSchool
A2: teaching summer school this yr I was teaching printmaking. This allowed me to show some of my journals to Ss & show them how to go back into their print that maybe didn’t turnout so well and make something better. #WhatIsSchool
This is amazing! I love the idea of introducing nontraditional ways of learning into the classroom. I believe these hands on experiences are what keep students motivated and incorporating these creative methods shows students we care about their interests! #whatisschool#CEP416
A3 True story. I do find putting myself out there at times is a great reminder of the risk taking, and perhaps resilience, involved in display. we ask students to do this all the time. #WhatIsSchool
A3 creativity’s so personal so it’s hard to share with others at times. Easier with students though. They are always willing/ready to accept. #whatisschool
A2: I don’t that much, but my goal this summer was to have a few blogs so I could help my ss blog a little better next year! I have one and I don’t know if I want to share it with them, lol!!! #WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool Time of course. But, I make sure to have my students write every day in their journals. Creative Expression for me gets stifled when I do not feel supported- when I go rogue and I get negativity
A3: Time sometimes will prevent me from creating as much as I want to.
Fear and lack of confidence used to get in my way....but not anymore... Wrote this recently about fear. https://t.co/oCvdrYNK6S#whatisschool
A3 I hear you. Being creative in this space is vital. I've been working on a number of projects in schools with reverse garbage, junk sculptures, wearables from recyclable materials etc. Lots of links to sustainability as well, which is powerful. #WhatIsSchool
A3: at the Elementary lvl, you don’t have a team to test out those new ideas. Really looking forward to teaching at the Middle lvl. & to have a team @LaurenWellArt & @EmaleeMartinArt#WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool. A3.The Ss don't but sometimes other adults in the class limit me a bit at times. as they may not appreciate a silly hat/poems etc especially ERO ( education Review Office ) Tcher/ school assessors who are coming in Week 2 next term.Gvt assessors that visit all schs

@deem_ellen, @art_cathyhunt, @ShiftParadigm
This is very true! Students are always very open to new ideas and trying something different. I think this is why it is easier to share creativity with students--they are excited and eager to not only learn, but be creative with you! #whatisschool#CEP416
A5: how will I make more time for creativity?Well... i think its about balance...for me at least. Its not about quantity, its about quality. I feel the time ive put in in the last few years has paid off immensely. I think now i can be more selective with my time. #whatisschool
A4
For me, art advocacy is key here. We know how important art is for the students...see my next few tweets. So, why would it not be just as important for US to be art-ful?
#WhatIsSchool
A4 I don’t have this question figured out yet, but as I said in A3, I plan to make creativity a priority during crunch times to see if it helps me be more efficient and helps me manage my stress. #whatisschool@ShiftParadigm@art_cathyhunt
#whatisschool. A4. By making it a priority & doing the rest but keeping your best. The Ss come first. The others are compulsory but don't need to take over your teaching- Prioritise!!
#WhatIsSchool I only grade papers and write lesson plans at school during planning etc. I write at home and on the weekends. I write in my journal throughout the day- it is what keeps me calm and focused
A4: I’m constantly writing things down. Also found that closing my eyes for 5-10 minutes allows some visual thinking. Also find comfort in organizing. Strange but some about organizing gets the creativity circulating #WhatIsSchool
A4: by sitting down and actually working along side my Ss also I love to see their reactions when I ask them for feedback when I get stuck. #WhatIsSchool
A4: sharing your creativity gives you a voice. When people use your creative ideas your voice is valued. When others share your creativity your voice is amplified. Is short: share your creative ideas. #WhatIsSchool
A4: Good qu! I do get a creative outlet at school assisting teachers, communicating ideas and opportunities, creating lessons and planning pd. But my own personal creative projects are put on hold until summer. I usually have so much to do even when I get home! #whatisschool
#whatisschool. Sitting in front of a heat pump here (sick with chest infection) thinking about all the sick days I have & never use during sch time (220+) & all I was going to do this holiday. And not caring lol
#whatisschool a4 I used to use PBL so that marking was ongoing and it gave us more time to video text. I also negotiated with old leadership for space for our art.
A6: what ways will I share creativity with my PLN? So, most of my PLN are truly my friends. What do friends do? We talk. Facebook. Tweet. Text. Instagram. Its what we do. #WhatIsSchool and just like that its bbq/pool time with the wife. Been great yall. TTYL.
A4: I try to incorporate different ways for kids to express themselves when I am lesson planning. It may be writing a story, creating a @Buncee , using @Flipgrid or maybe just illustrating their thinking. #whatisschool
A4: I love creating powerful experiences for my Ss that makes learning come alive in magical ways. Viewing lessons and tests through that lense helps me. When Ss are immersed and empowered, the focus is not on the grade...which I love. #whatisschool
A4: by sitting down and actually working along side my Ss also I love to see their reactions when I ask them for feedback when I get stuck. #WhatIsSchool
This is an great idea - finding ways to allow students an artistic, creavitve outlet even on a budget. This could potentially be part of a science lesson on sustainability and helping to save our Earth! #WhatIsSchool#CEP416

Words are always whispering in my ear, inspiring an image, an idea- I jot them down or say them into my phone continuously throughout the day. I also talk to myself a lot- students get used to it pretty quick #whatisschool
I want Ss to be engaged; it's not necessarily about my creative spark but my Ss - what do they want to learn and how do they want to learn it? #whatisschool
Yep, I've never heard a teacher say 'I have so much free time'! I guess if the projects are on hold and they are something you look forward to, and still do... but look after yourself too, okay! #WhatIsSchool
That's why I continue to start my days with Genius/Making time. This will be my 4th year. I'm so glad these movements started. They really are just giving kids permission to do what they do best. Learn through play and exploration. #WhatIsSchool
A4: you have to know your Ss and design opportunities around their interests that also align with skills and content of the curriculum - I think curriculum content needs to be more flexible in certain subject areas. #whatisschool
A3 I suppose fear and inexperience limits me from expressing my creativity. I am an undergrad and I’ve only done about 40 hours in the classroom. Any advice for how to become more comfortable with this? #WhatIsSchool#CEP416
I think this is really valuable! It is important to think of how we can give students opportunities to be creative while still learning. This makes learning so much more engaging for students and is fun for the educator as well. #whatisschool#CEP416
And there is so much value in the 'creative warm up'. Just like an athlete must warm up their muscles, we need to do it to activate creativity. training creativity makes it a habit as well. #WhatIsSchool
A5: New role this year as a Tech Integration Coach...must say it's been an emotional transition, but hope to inspire and empower other educators to take leaps and incorporate more creation into their classes... #whatisschool
A5 Use my photos at least once a week during a lesson, and continue to incorporate my favorite Peanuts characters into my instruction. #whatisschool@ShiftParadigm@art_cathyhunt
I am an undergrad student now, but I am so into the idea of journal writing everyday. I know this is something I want to incorporate into my classroom because journals are an outlet and also a great way for students to collect and express their ideas! #WhatIsSchool#CEP416
As teachers we need to be positive role models- that includes following our passions, sharing what we learn & exploring our own creativity! #WhatIsSchool
A5: I’ve been working on a few creative projects at home and I already feel better! It makes me a better educator to feed that love of art! I take what I learn and use the lessons learned. Patience is a huge one!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻#whatisschool
#WhatIsSchool Have students use the graffiti board for writing poetry as well as graphics- have students continue reflective writing but also more creative outlets too- find inspiration from my students and continue to write and share and ask for feedback and grow as a writer
A4 this one has been difficult for me! I’m trying to find a way to keep that so important time and creativity for myself, while still doing what I need to #WhatIsSchool
These are great ideas, guys. And the wonderful thing about art his you can share the process and products, the inspiration and the successes in a way that really helps other educators. Seeing is believing. #WhatIsSchool
A2: more recently been painting on my iPad Pro using @Procreate - creating my own visuals for work, so kind of engaging creativity. @art_cathyhunt#WhatIsSchool
The mainstay I stay creative- never carve anything into stone- I always look for a new way to do things- a strategy that will change the direction & increase the energy & engagement-Every class is different so I stay organic & fluid. #WhatIsSchool - but I seem a bit crazy for it
A3: moving from classroom teacher to digital tech specialist has meant I don’t get to teach art - I miss it! Sometimes I am invited into a class for a lesson or can tie in some supplementary objectives into a lesson of my own. @art_cathyhunt#WhatIsSchool
And there is so much value in the 'creative warm up'. Just like an athlete must warm up their muscles, we need to do it to activate creativity. training creativity makes it a habit as well. #WhatIsSchool
A5 Creativity can be very valuable in students' learning so making sure to give them mediums to express themselves will always be a priority when lesson planning. I think students are more inclined to be engaged when creativity is involved. #whatisschool#CEP416
A4: Keeping my creative spark alive means that I must dedicate time to exploring that important part of who I am...I can then be of better service to my students and colleagues. #WhatIsSchool
A4 I believe my creative spark is who I am. I believe it is the Holy Spirit working through me to express joy! Spending time w/ God regenerates me.#WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool The main way I stay creative- never carve anything into stone- I always look for a new way to do things- a strategy that will change the direction & increase the energy & engagement-Every class is different so I stay organic & fluid., but I seem a bit crazy for it
stopmotion photography, hands on modeling- play doh, paint, craft materials, lots of ways to be creative in science. I love letting my students use digital tools especially those that "can't draw" @canva@AdobeSpark Skitch @bookcreator#whatisschool

A4 I wonder if it is because of feeling like it is 'separated'? Could the lesson planning allow you to build in some opportunities to make alongside/with the students as a start? #WhatIsSchool
#whatisschool Twitter chats & blogging- reading others blogs is very inspiring and it something I do daily- and educators podcasts are amazing too @theedpodcast
Yes! I love the idea of actually being on the same level as your students. I think it’s so important to make sure they have a voice in the classroom and aren’t feeling overpowered. They have so much to teach us! #WhatIsSchool#CEP416

#whatisschool. Thanks for a great chat. Got called away at the end with 2 knocks on door. Courier parcel for daughter and Real estate agents wanting to know If I wanted to sell. No! Have a great day/night everyone
I agree! Blogs are such an easy read and way to share with other teachers our ideas. I as an undergrad Elementary Ed student find comfort in reading them because they help to remind me of how collaborative teaching is and how much we can help one another. #whatisschool#CEP416
