-
Kendrick Crite OL/DL aspiring OC. Relocating to Connecticut this summer. Looking to make some connections.
-
Nvrmind, my guy! Dang headsets, mine should be on a bungie, better than tearing my polo Hulk Hogan style https://t.co/SgIT3vQl9B
-
A1: I am pretty laid back...I'm patient with my players and try to teach them how and why
-
A1: coach them hard and let them know I care about them on and off the field. For the time we are working, nothing is personal
-
-
A1 Have to recruit your hallways, hard to do that as dictator. Not afraid to love my kids and take genuine interest in them
-
Mathew Bennett, Offensive Line Coach at Westwood High School in Blythewood, South Carolina
-
Surely we have someone following from Connecticut...help a brutha out! https://t.co/r3JR3KMbQw
-
-
Kendrick Crite OL/DL aspiring OC. Relocating to Connecticut this summer. Looking to make some connections.
-
A1: be tough, have fun, develop men
-
patience is key. Can't be impatient with kids today. They tune you out ASAP
-
A1 Cont... Doesn't mean spoil them. Just approach it as a teacher and as a parent
-
A1: lead the way I want them to play. Tough, smart, fast. "immune to danger"
-
A1 if you're not coaching against it you are allowing it or "coaching IT" Something happens each play coach every down
-
-
A1. Hard Hard Hard, but I try to end on a positive note.
-
A1: Out Work opposing coaches 24/7.Don't just coach a skill, explain why it's important. Demanding/supportive.Always be prepared
-
I'm pretty laid back but will get after it need be. Try to give my kids a lot of confidence so they can play fast!
-
A1: teach themnot only how, but why we do things the way we do them
-
A1: Old school with new school flavor, big energy, team focused philosophy
-
Q1B: Is there a difference between coaching hard and coaching with high expectations? https://t.co/Anm51TzXqX
-
-
A1. Hard Hard Hard, but I try to end on a positive note.
-
A1: part 2: I do my best to make the expectations very clear, and never waiver. Be a river not a flood, flow 1 way consistently
-
A1: Firm - clear communication with lots of passion, energy and love for my players
-
Jonathan Davis
DC Eastside High School
Gainesville Florida
-
Q2. How did you develop your style?
-
John Mitchell DB Coach Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. Sorry I am late fellas, let's keep it going!!!
-
Dan DeBoeuf HFC Johnsburg High School Johnsburg, IL
-
A1b: expectations differ from kid to kid based on ability. Coach them all hard. Don't coach effort
-
A2: a lot of how you coach has to be about who you are, players know when you are faking it. Have to be genuine in what you do.
-
A1B: yes, some coaches coach hard to the point of forcing kids to quit or making them "tougher" that's extreme in my opinion
-
A1)I'm a demanding jerk, that nothing is every good enough & I'm a players coach, kids smell BS, I'm zero BS, they know I care
-
A2: Understanding players, people and studying what motivates and makes student athletes successful
-
A1) I hope I'm seen as the motivator, the storyteller and the guy always looking to "bring the juice."
-
A2: I Coach these kids the way I would want to be coached. And sprinkled in a little of my coaches from growing up
-
A1: don't care how much you know until they know how much you care
-
A1b) Yes, you don't have to be hard to set and meet expectations.
-
A1: from the best coaches I've had in my playing career, as well as the HC I coached under for 4 years
-
I somewhat disagree with this...because every kid is different, you reach and push them in different ways
-
A2: learned a lot from my father . Ask myself what would , , and do?
-
-
A2: from the best coaches I've had in my playing career, as well as the HC I coached under for 4 years
-
A1: Postive Energy! Hoping in and out of drills being very involved!
-
A2: part 2: with that being said, in school I had great coaches, I worked under great coaches, and still work under great ones
-
A2) I'm just me. On the field, in hallway, gas station,,,,,,just me. Maybe not always a good thing
-
A2: I try to coach kids how I was coached and also how I would want my son to be coached
-
A1) Expect lot, Celebrate the good times & teach when needed. Bring high energy & be willing when u screw up.
-
A2: I feel that as I grew into my career that I let more of my personality come through into my coaching...its who I am
-
A2: I try to take aspects of other coaches and mold mine. Urban Meyers Intensity/Focus. Jim tresses love for his players...cont
-
A1: I'm not a yeller. I do a lot of teaching. I only get worked up over effort. If a kid messes up, I need to teach better.
-
A1: I am old school as well, but I remember I was 16/17 yrs old and I keep that in mind when dealing w/my athletes.
-
A2: learned a ton from my first coaching job, happened to be under a great coach!
-
A2: part 3: I've been very fortunate to have great coaching role models, and had chances to watch great college coaches as well
-
A2) Genetics and the environment I was raised in. Made me who I am. And a little trial and error in coaching
-
A2: contd: David Shaw program management and Ohio HS coaching legend Auggie Bossu as a man
-
A2 contd: My style also comes from the culture of the school I'm at and to an extent the personality of my head coach
-
Q2 Any of u have things u will not do b/c u hated that style as a player?
-
A2 Experience. Made real progress when made it less abt me & more abt my kids. Sounds simple, but we all have an ego to overcome
-
-
Q3. How does your style mesh with your personality?
-
by watching other coaches and remembering the traits of the good coaches I had. I attempt to get better every day
-
Just had a player favorite my tweet about being a jerk,
-
A2) Need to be real with the players. Care about them on & off field. Build relationships & make yourself approachable.
-
A2: I treat every kid the same too. Poor, rich, white, black, brown, yellow, purple. It doesn't matter. They all get the same
-
AGREE!!! Everybody wants to be Lombardi at the start...they just need to be themselves https://t.co/IM4egDterY
-

A2 Experience. Made real progress when made it less abt me & more abt my kids. Sounds simple, but we all have an ego to overcome
-
to me coach hard is "be there for them ALL with energy & coaching" don't want a kid saying he's out working me.
-
A2 Cont Can't imitate someone else. Be yourself... can be scary!
-
A2: I started coaching at the same time I started learning how to teach. I took concepts from the classroom to the field to...
-
-
A2 contd: In order to coach kids well you gotta understand what kind of kids you have
-
A2 I want to always love and coach the kid regardless of who his dad is or what he says.
-
A3: there isn't a line between how I coach, teach and how I act 24/7. It's all the same all the time. It's why I'm single 😂
-
A3: they are the same, high energy, optimistic, positive attitude
-
A2: ... test them out. I've also admired Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy.
-
A2: I have my own style, w/some nuisances from other good coaches. I am hard, but I am fair & honest 2 the kids and they know it
-
Ah...that makes sense...I appreciate the explanation
-
A3: my sarcasm helps with my energy at practice, helps players memorize things sometimes with a cheap laugh, but never too much
-
I agree you can't get after every kid the same, got to push the right buttons.
-
This is called brutal honesty...don't be afraid to slide into his DMs, lol https://t.co/UzzGSR0EAc
-
-
A3: there isn't a line between how I coach, teach and how I act 24/7. It's all the same all the time. It's why I'm single 😂
-
Amen, I'm tough across the board. Tough but fair to the best and worst athletes I have. https://t.co/aYXvpkVfY5
-
-
A2: I treat every kid the same too. Poor, rich, white, black, brown, yellow, purple. It doesn't matter. They all get the same

-
Q3. How does your style mesh with your personality?
-
Q2 SM - Will not berate/break down a kid to prove a point to the rest of the team or single out kids personally in front of team
-
Jack Dingus OL Coach Crooked Oak HS Oklahoma City, OK
-
A3) I demand lot of myself & chasing perfection. Players know that I'll take the blame when bad. They get praise when good.
-
A3: It is one and the same...I am the same in the film room, classroom, field, and at home
-
A3 Energy is contagious. I am an energetic person, want to energize players around me
-
Q3: I'm very jovial, I like laughing but can flip the switch on and off. I'm always competitive, coach the same way.
-
A3: It's all the same. Don't try to put up a show. Kids will see right through it. Be yourself.
-
A3: it's exactly who I am. I don't want to be someone I'm not.
-
A3 it's one in the same. I'm the same way in the hallway, on the practice field, @ Walmart. I'm a little different on gameday
-
Q4. More importantly, how does you style mesh with your athletes and in the coaches office?
-
A3) they are aligned, kids smell BS, if you are being something you are not, then they'll know.
-
A3 My personality and coaching style are exactly the way I live my life. Don't know any better.
-
Q4 RT -->Q4. More importantly, how does you style mesh with your athletes and in the coaches office? https://t.co/T0Hvzh2pxu
-
-
Q4. More importantly, how does you style mesh with your athletes and in the coaches office?
-
A3- I am the same person. Can't fake it. Kids can smell a non-authentic coach.
-
-
A3: I am same person from football, the classroom, & the hallway, except when in football I can be more chaotic, LOL!!!
-
A4: I think it fits well. You will have to ask about that one.
-
-
A4: athletes respond to you if you're about the team, and if THEY are about the team. Must have common goals and pull same rope
-
A3: You have to let your personally come through when coaching- Being real with kids allows them to trust you and play for you
-
A4: I believe it helps the kids trust me and confide in me to build a positive relationship. cont...
-
A4: players don't complain much because they want to be held accountable. If a coach doesn't like it that's tough crap. I'm me
-
A4: or he's coached with me.
-
A4: In the office it helps because I'm pretty accepting of the other guys I work with, as long as they don't flat bill it ;)
-
A4 Anywhere you go, players all respond differently to your style. Some kids just have to know how to motivate.
-
A4: It fits great! If you walk into that Foster Football Office you better have thick skin- it's HARD in there- Everyone gets it
-
THIS --> Its about connecting with kids! https://t.co/uXid8BNKkf
-
-
A3: You have to let your personally come through when coaching- Being real with kids allows them to trust you and play for you
-
A4 it's liked, but even more importantly it's Respected. I wanted to type RESPECK, but everyone might not get that joke
-
Completely agree. Blessed with a great staff https://t.co/aioTkzSkOd
-
-
A4: I think it fits well. You will have to ask about that one.
-
A4 Cont- With coaches it's easier, because despite your personalities, you're still professionals (hopefully) with a common goal
-
A4) I have great relationship with players and coaches. With both need to be humble & willing to listen.
-
A4)I think kids like to be coached by me, well most, I'm sure there are 1s that didn't. Don't want it, but it's going to happen
-
A4: it's important to learn to be able to communicate with all kinds of personalities. You have to be a chameleon
-
A4- I've worked w/the same guys 4 15+ yrs. We all mesh well together bc we know we all care 4 winning & each other.
-
Very true...you're not always going to like everybody you work with, but you can be professional https://t.co/J3YiraKeTa
-
-
A4 Cont- With coaches it's easier, because despite your personalities, you're still professionals (hopefully) with a common goal
-
A4: all coaches and players hate me
-
A4 The truly great coaches learn what makes each of their players tick and adjust from there
-
Q5. Who are coaches with a similar style that you look for information and inspiration?
-
A4: (for real) I feel like I get along well with all coaches
-
A4: as far as the office goes, it's all about the kids, any problems coaches may have is secondary and can't show outside office
-
A4) coaches, the same situation, sure it's not always perfect but I hope we all can respect each other on a professional level
-
RT Q5 -->Q5. Who are coaches with a similar style that you look for information and inspiration? https://t.co/ni8kykcwix

-
All my ex players, weigh in,,,,,, jerk that cares a whole bunch or something else?
-
A5: Paul Alexander. they are both low key dudes who know how to work hard and how to have fun too
-
-
A5: I have always enjoyed Pete Carroll, Mike Leach, and Paul Alexander...I think a combination of those coaches fits me

-
A5 Cont- Bought their books, when Scott Ryle writes a book I will buy his too
-
A5)Kevin Gardner, my father. Best man I have ever known.

-
I gotcha...I tell that to my kids...I'm grown (and 40), it won't hurt my feelings if you hate me
-

-
-
A3: My style and personality are exact matches... Can't be fake around kids, they are the greatest B.S. detectors!
-

-
Carol Sims, Riverton MS volleyball coach w/ +85% win percent over 30 yrs. Key = fundamentals. Nothing basic about the basics.
