We are glad to have you back with us!
Our first question will begin in 1 minute! We will be using the Q/A format for this chat.
Congrats and welcome to coaching! It's definitely a learning experience and I'm happy to connect with you.
Helloooo Karen! Thanks for joining in tonight!
Me too, lol! And after 1 year, I need therapy, lol
A1: Focus on the objectives. Don't create a tech-based lesson for the sake of the tech.
A1: Ts using tech shouldn't be afraid if the tech fails them...have a backup, bit go format and be innovative and creative
A1 (cont): Provide for true student choice - not just the background color of their 7-slide PowerPoint.
A1: Troubleshoot, have a Plan B.
Don't fear the tech! :) https://t.co/x24u715kJv
A1: Ts using tech shouldn't be afraid if the tech fails them...have a backup, bit go format and be innovative and creative
A1: Remember it's about the students, not the technology
A1: Think about how technology can enhance a lesson, motivate & engage learners, and allow voice & choice within curriculum
Yes. Tech is the means to the end. The tool used isn't the objective https://t.co/zCVGoFrMWG
A1: Focus on the objectives. Don't create a tech-based lesson for the sake of the tech.
Definitely focus on the Ss and the learning, right?
Ask the kids for help if you're stuck! Models and a sense of collaboration.
A1: Try it and learn from it.
Too many Ts are afraid to do this. We have to be OK with this. https://t.co/2jeqbzY93e
Ask the kids for help if you're stuck! Models and a sense of collaboration.
I'm sorry but I just scrolled thru the whole feed and am not seeing Q1
Let the kids be your classroom tech squad to repair problems. Empower them. https://t.co/w1wIV7pPXC
Ask the kids for help if you're stuck! Models and a sense of collaboration.
As we move to more collaborative classrooms, Ts can facilitate and learn. Have kids highlight new tech tools.
Our next question will begin in just 1 minute.
Love this! Moving from "sage on the stage" to "guide on the side". https://t.co/bOKJJZxL5h
As we move to more collaborative classrooms, Ts can facilitate and learn. Have kids highlight new tech tools.
I didn't either; however, when I clicked onto page, it was posted there. Weird. Gotta love tech!
Stinkin' technology ;) https://t.co/xl7qIQP0Hx
I didn't either; however, when I clicked onto page, it was posted there. Weird. Gotta love tech!
A1 Be proactive and seek out answers and possibilities from PLN and try things out. Tinker w/ lrng objtvs in mind
This is my hope for PD for teachers, too.
This can be a sort of 21c show and tell https://t.co/YV785zevR0
As we move to more collaborative classrooms, Ts can facilitate and learn. Have kids highlight new tech tools.
A2: If a lesson meets the objective better w/out tech, do it w/out tech. If Ss learn faster or deeper w/tech, then use tech.
At , Ts are sharing learning using new presentation and tools. Learned lots!
A2 If tech isn't clearly moving Ss to standards and objectives, it becomes a distraction rather than an aide.
A2:I evaluate the skills the students might need when incorporating technology & allow time for exploration & problem solving
A2: Tech should be used for specific purpose; Ss shouldn't be distracted from objective by tech
Yes!! This is right on target!! https://t.co/EE4O6LtXH4
A2: If a lesson meets the objective better w/out tech, do it w/out tech. If Ss learn faster or deeper w/tech, then use tech.
A2: Sometimes the best distractions are best solutions to a problem or critical thinking moment. W/ tech ya gotta be flexible
A2: It can be helpful to use SAMR...if you are just substituting the tech it may not be beneficial.
A2: Provide choices, but be OK with Ss taking a risk with something new. Collaborate and have kids coach each other.
A2: It depends on the goal and purpose. What will the Ss take away from this?
I find SAMR to be really helpful, especially for Ts just beginning to integrate tech.
Objective shouldn't be SWBAT use xyz tech. Should be tied to standards / problem solving
I always like to think about the audience. Is this authentic, or a waste of time. How will Ss share?
It always frustrates me when Ts come to me for advice on creating a PowerPoint without a learning obj in mind.
Ick. That can only mean lecture and drill.
That's a great way of putting it.
A3: When my favorite tech tools fail I ask our students for support. They give the best pep talks and problem solving support
Man it feels good to be a gangster
Sounds like a case of the "Mondays".
great reference from a great movie
Why does it say paper jam, when there IS no paper jam? That's when I need
Our next question will begin in 1 minute.
I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. I always mess up some mundane detail.
This is a great answer. A lot of times, we overlook our best resources!
Q4: How do you capture and archive digital resources, to ensure they are available when needed? https://t.co/oFZ6mRVcu5
A4: We use google classroom and are beginning to develop playlists
A4: Could use ideas. Pinterest for some of mine, but that doesn't always work.
I just take pics on my phone and airdrop them to my ipad or mac. Also, planning to use as an
A4: I use and to capture visuals and articles. I also store EVERYTHING in !
Where are you developing playlists?
A4: I like to store digital resources. Easily shareable and well organized
we are dabbling with and google docs
A4b: Super bummed about the announcement, today. 2 device limit for free accounts :(
I'm not good at this. I started a youtube playlist. I try to embed them in lesson right away. Folders upon folders in G docs
A4: Sometimes my desktop ends up looking like a game of Tetris
I also use and I've played with for videos.
A4: used to pretty good for me. We've been falling out as of late. is good and YouTube Playlist
Cool! I might have some Qs for you about .
is a cool Chrome extension to collapse all of your open tabs into one. You can share with a QR code.
I didn't even know there way a free account. When I had it 3 yrs ago it was only a free "trial" for 60 days
A4: Will be using this year
SAME! But always feel like I'm multi-multi-tasking.
Never heard of blendspace...Will have to learn more about it!
Our next question will begin in 1 minute.
I LOVE Tetris! Just sayin...
Me too. Recently read something to the effect of "multitasking is a myth, only doing several things poorly"
Love getting new resources from this chat!! https://t.co/jnNh1bQtOi
I use to capture videos, in case they get taken down at some point. https://t.co/itgmQMACRf
I'm not good at this. I started a youtube playlist. I try to embed them in lesson right away. Folders upon folders in G docs
Thank you!!! I always worry about this.
Absolutely true - verified by psych. First lesson I teach my ss
Plus, who doesn't like the word ?!
A5: Tap into your PLN for support if you aren't getting any from your district...or even if you are!
A5: As an admin I demo resources for Ts and rely on other Ts to share at staff meetings. Empower Ts and also Ss to share
major Reno????? Still same link I hope!
A4b: are becoming popular. They remind me of Webquests where you can link your resources in one place
Ha! The logo is a little inappropriate, but it is a great tool. You can save videos as MP3's too. https://t.co/I7ie0vNsgI
Plus, who doesn't like the word ?!
A5: station rotation model requires less tech but access for all. Also allows great small group face 2 face with Ss
Yes...same link, definitely! Just the "Curation" page is in bad shape.
A5: BYOD can work, in the right setting. Free OERs and open-source software are key. Tools like .
Somebody was explaining to me and I thought, "Isn't that what a webquest is?"
A5 This is me 100% of the time. Have the will and the grind 2 find resources that work & frankenstein them together
Better than me! I haven't even started. Just got my site up and haven't had time to get it organized.
A5: There is a lot you can do with one computer and a projector...Mystery Hangouts for example.
Great point! Welcome, Hilary. Sorry, I didn't see you sneak in ;) https://t.co/J05bcoVbwG
A5: station rotation model requires less tech but access for all. Also allows great small group face 2 face with Ss
And a great example at that :D
phew...mini-hyperventilation as I'm almost done with state project 😉😉😉
Lol, I'm waiting to find out where I'm missing something additional about it
Hahaha! No worries. Just renewed the domain for at least another year :)
ROCKS my SOCKS in RI.... True story.
sorry very late entrance! 5th grade ELL teacher from in Providence RI
No worries...thank you for making it!!
Our FINAL QUESTION of the evening is coming up in 1 minute!
A5: Make stations in the classroom based on what you have available. Don't forget your purpose.
Q6: FINAL Q: How do you personally reflect or encourage reflection, when integrating technology? https://t.co/j22eKUkStW
A6: Talk about it with another teacher or PLN.
A6: I write. And as much as I have written and should have it published to my blog, it's not! https://t.co/jBQ2Q0vs99
Debrief, blog, ask lots of questions (as an ). I love the way tech has grown me as an educator.
A6b: I encourage it because when you look back at later, you can see how much you've grown.
A6: I constantly jot down notes and ask for feedback. I also chat with my and PLN, which helps me review and reflect.
A6: We reflect through class discussions, through data analysis, and through grade level discussions
A6: We host monthly Appy Hours to share cool tech tools we are trying out. Important to bounce ideas around!
A6 I try to reflect in the moment and keep S goals in mind (and annoy my PLN for tips)
I really have grown over the year from learning and growing my PLN. Now, I want all of Ts to try.
Reflection is a piece I miss a lot. Feel like I don't have time for it
Love Appy Hours! Are they before or after school? Mandatory or voluntary? https://t.co/CUyEXRH2Ml
A6: We host monthly Appy Hours to share cool tech tools we are trying out. Important to bounce ideas around!
I know! I'm planning to start an club for students next year. They'll be great staff developers!
Is a high five or happy dance considered a reflection? I think so...
happy dance! Get to say I knew you when :)
AB. SO. LUTELY!! Possibly the best reflection. https://t.co/0tmTIpiYpG
Is a high five or happy dance considered a reflection? I think so...
after school and totally voluntary. We make it fun with soda and snacks! Very laid back.
Great chat again, and I really enjoy this, thanks!
Thank you so much for joining! Especially with all of the goings on :)
That'll be fun. I did a CS club with some students this year, and I think I enjoyed it more than them!
just love this chat! Thank you!
Thank you very much, my friend!
always smile when I see your tweets
Thank you so much for joining and to for her powers of persuasion ;)
We've got some great resources here to help be prepared for the unfortunate side of technology! Thank you all
