@Sra_Shalash has helped me this year by supporting me throughout this process. She was always encouraging, and I am proud to have been one of her students. Now, I am a middle school teacher just like her. #122edchat
My amazing #PLN has helped me tremendously this year. It truly takes a village, and I am grateful for everyone embracing me and welcoming me into this humbling profession. #122edchat
I must thank @khoggardGRT for being the ying to my yang-: we laugh, cry and bounce ideas off each other like nobody’s business. We collaborate to motivate, inspire, and change the world! #122edchat#LoveLiteracyLearning#champforkids

A1: People I turn to should be good listeners, not always seek to tell me how to solve a problem. Instead, they should help and guide me. That’s what I try to do for people who come to me #122edchat
A1 I look to people with shared vision, passion, and motivation. I also look for real and genuine people that are willing to authentically reflect. #122edchat

#122edchat
A1: Qualities that I look for in people that I turn to are trustworthy, caring, passionate, them being encouragers and not critics, and they truly want to make the world a better place. #122edchat
A1: I look for people who are creative, not afraid of a challenge, who want to try things with the best interests of the Ss always first. Pirates :) #122edchat
A big thank you to @thomaseb for her help, mentoring and support in my travels this year. Thanks to @RiverHawkIFT and @PHausTech for checking out my online portfolio. Thank you @rodcarnill and @G07Moreland for bringing me onboard as an ITC. Can't wait!! #122edchat
A1: I look for honesty, "realness" (don't tiptoe around me - just give it to me straight), and those that care about students' well-being. With that in mind, we can overcome obstacles. #122edchat
A1: I look for people who seek out diversity, hope, kindness, love, and can forgive me when my temper gets the best of me. People who can accept that my family time will always come first. And they should love Disney and/or coffee!!! #122edchat
A1 I look to people who see the positive in other people, and not always starting with a negative. Also, those I can trust and they trust me. If only I trust,it’s not going to work #122edChat
@megan_hacholski will have to share the "Head of Byrne" story later :) We also wanted to do a "Head of Bea Arthur" since she is our Drama department official mascot. #122edchat
In reply to
@kristi_daws, @megan_hacholski, @SteinbrinkLaura, @megan_hacholski
A1: will challenge me, help me stay positive, maintain focus, tell me what I need to hear not just what I want to hear, are honest, respectful, collaborative, innovative, kind, hardworking, encouraging, open minded, growth mindset, risk takers #122edchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
Kristen from PA. I teach 6th grade physical science and my kids aren’t in bed yet, but I’m going to try to lee up!!! And I think my older two just re-enacted a scene from step-brothers! https://t.co/nigjj69Adi#122edchat
A2: The most important thing to me in my school and classroom are the relationships that are made with S's and other T's and admin. I made sure I made personal connections, and took time to converse with them. #122edchat
A1 I'm not an easy person to work with, I am either too intense or too laidback.
I need someone who can keep my emotions in check but at the same time challenge me #122edchat
Hi friends! Andrea, 7th gr ELA fro Oak Lawn, IL. Got a late start cooking dinner b/c I was enjoying the weather at the park with my friend & her kids. I'm ready to chat now! #122edchat
A1 I look to people with shared vision, passion, and motivation. I also look for real and genuine people that are willing to authentically reflect. #122edchat
A2 The most important thing is high expectations. I hold high expectations of students and they of me. To meet expectations we work hard and laugh even harder. I push when needed, give 2nd (& 3rd, 4th chances, etc) when needed too. And I provide snacks, cuz that helps. #122edchat
A2- The most important thing to me is my students. They are the reason I come to school everyday. I tried through the whole school year to help them find their way and be successful.#122edchat
A2: Most important in my classrooms is community. Building a trust and relationships from day one. Believing in each other so much that even bad days are better in that space.
#122edchat
A2: The kids, hands down. Without them, we would not be here. They are the light in my day and the reason why I get out of bed to run each morning. Middle school kids are the hidden gems in our society. #122edchat
Wow...I thought that I was the only one that talked like this :) Love this, Noel. I feel like I am saying this all the time to our children. #122edchat
A1: I look for an active listener who shows me that they hear me through their actions. I also look for people who are sincere, thoughtful and kind. #122edchat
A2 it's making sure everyone in the classroom is loved, safe, and challenged without being afraid. I ensured that our routines are set, expectations are clear #122edchat
A1: I look for people who have similar philosophies as I do, but also challenge me to be better & try things outside of my comfort zone. Plus, personalities have to click! #122edchat
A2: the most important thing is a positive atmosphere in which students know they’re cared about and challenged.
Time and establishing the relationships/trust makes the rapport successful. #122edchat
A2: The most important thing to me in my school and classroom are the positivity spread and the overall climate of the school. I want my classroom to have a cozy feeling. #122edchat
A2: There can be no doubt.... Relationships! Time in the hall between classes, eating lunch down in the cafeteria everyday, attending T social events, and being a safe space for all have helped me build these relationships. #122edchat@ERobbPrincipal@misskoplin@ToddRisser
A2: Relationships are vital to success in other areas! I try to form relationships with my teachers to model what it should be like between teacher/student. Walk the walk and talk the talk #122edchat
A2 Relationships and connections with kids. Without it, there is little learning and engagement. I start by building relationships from minute ONE. Sarcasm and Humor are my super powers. #122edchat
A2 professionally, it's the opportunity to really go to seminars and present in conferences or lead PDs. I really want to give back to teachers this year #122edchat
A2: Many people say teachers inspire which is true, but our students inspire us as well. The kids truly deserve it, and they inspire me to be kinder as well as be a more empathetic person. I am a better teacher because of the amazing students I get to teach. #122edchat
A2: relationships! Lend an ear, lend a hand, and lend a heart... keys to successful relationships... modeling and being active in the process help, too! #122edChat
A2: Talk to kids all day long. I get the fun hallway conversations, but I am always checking in on them. Making final memories with the 8th graders and getting to know the 6th and 7th graders better. Let kids know we see them. Relationships are the key. #122edchat
A2: the most important thing to me in my classroom is that my Ss #ChooseKind in all they do. We have a diverse population, many come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds, and many have not had much kindness modeled in their personal lives. I want to fix that. #122edchat
A3: Some failures I've had this year dealt with communication, and management of responsibilities. I've learned to not assume anything, and that you can't over-communicate. I've also been practicing the "do a little each day" strategy. #122edchat
A2 always relationships! Working to listen and meet Ts and Ss where they are! Offering voice and choice to both Ts and Ss and doing my best to be encouragingand supportive of risk taking #122edchat
A3: Every teacher has a list of "failures" that they can point to each and every year. I think @MrPStrunk has a great approach with #waledchat about reflecting on losses and wins. How can you turn the L into the W? #122edchat
A2: Culture and community! Students and teachers must all know that school is a safe, happy place. Everyone should LOVE coming to school— staff included! #122edchat
A3: With a new curriculum, there were many hiccups and complete failures with lessons. It was critical to know how to flip things on a dime and make the best out of a tricky situation. #122edchat
A2: Relationships are the #1 priority- with Ss and Ts. You must have connections and genuine relationships in order for their to be trust. Without trust- you won’t see the true potential! #122EdChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A3 I had a few missed opportunities with students that needed MORE. I reminded myself that their behaviors were calls for help, not repelling behaviors. #122edchat
A1: people who inspire, won’t criticize, who are transparent and real, who offer solutions and challenge my negativity Instead of fueling my fire. People who will give me the truth rather than sugar coat it. #122edchat
Being present is something I can really struggle with, but it's so important! Always working on this. My to-do list will always be there - the kids come first! #122edchat
A3: I had a few times where I took things more personal than I should have instead of recognizing the 18 billion variables an S is dealing with at home. It has helped me remember to pause, breathe, and understand. #122edchat@_on11@megan_hacholski@ERobbPrincipal
A3 my colleague said it best, when students don't feel our love (in any way/form). There were some that I was really harsh too and if I could take it back and do over, yes!
But I also know that I was hard on them because I wanted them to push themselves to be better #122edchat
A3: Failures include not getting into as many classrooms as I would have liked, missed opportunities to build relationships, & working to much at home.
#122edchat
A3: 280 characters is not nearly enough. After the loss, I took time to look at what happened then fought to make things right. I own my mistakes, even if it is uncomfortable. When things don't go as planned is a great opportunity to learn and grow, then do different. #122edchat
A3: Every teacher has a list of "failures" that they can point to each and every year. I think @MrPStrunk has a great approach with #waledchat about reflecting on losses and wins. How can you turn the L into the W? #122edchat
A3: As a student teacher, I tried to use @classroomq one day, and it did not go the way I wanted it to. I realized that and told the students that the way I planned it to go was not working. I stopped using it halfway and need to revisit it. #122edchat
A3: My position suddenly changed early in the year so I was unable to complete goals o had for myself. With my new duties I needed to reflect, adjust, and set new goals. #122edchat
A3: Biggest failure was how I handled a student situation. First time I ever handled such a circumstance and it didn’t go well. Afterwards was humble and not too proud to apologize to teacher. #important#122edchat
First graders in Mrs.Miller’s class @weRCharles tried out the Zany Zoo @breakoutEDU today. They said it was fun! It’s amazing watching the difference in them from August to May and how they solve clues as a team! #teamwork#perseverance#RCSeLearn
A3- I really wanted to be better at 1:1 reading conferences this year, but I didn't get to every student like I had intended. I need to figure out a better system, but find it difficult in 60 minutes to teach reading, writing, & grammar w/ the integrity I envision. #122edchat
#122edchat A3a I learned that life is difficult for Ts and Ss the most important thing we can do is our best When you give your best you can reflect positively & grow
#122edChat
A3: there have been kids that took me too long to figure out. That got help from me later than I would have liked and it humbles me. It makes me want to invest more time in relationships over curriculum crunch.
A2. The most important is building family❤️ relationships. I build relationships with my kids learning their passions - get to know them/they also build relationships with each other-The bond they have with each other during the year, you can’t get that back! #122edchat
A3 I'm in a new role this year, so I have learned a lot from failing. Hopefully the kids I work with realize that failures are a natural part of life and we can learn from them. #122edchat
A3: this was a rough yr in 4th because we were ALL new Ts at my school, had a lot of turnover, and Ss were moved around multiple times. I think I learned how to rely on myself a lot this yr, but also learned so much about building a PLN to lift my spirits! #122edchat
A2:I want ss to want to be in my class. I listen to them, take their advice, give them a voice, and help them be successful by finding ways they can communicate what they know and conference often. #122edchat
Hi! Liz from Warrenton, Mo. Looking forward to starting my youngest horses under saddle this summer. And, Our last day of school was today! 😩😢 #122edchat
A3 I have had a few projects that I have started with kids in various classrooms that we have not been able to see through and it breaks my heart! This year I have been pulled in a lot of directions and it has left me feeling ineffectiveat times! #122edchat
A3: Not being able to communicate with a colleague bc conversation turned sour due to assumptions. We should collaborate NOT compete. Never assume you understand how someone else feels, don’t take things personally, give everyone 2nd chances. #122edchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A3 Ugh. Failures would be the kids who say they still hate reading. I will never recover of course but I will keep plugging away to make a love of reading a priority. I learned I must retool how long I spend on novels to find more time for other things. #122edchat#FailForward
A4: Next year will require me to do a lot of new things without fear. A new adventure requires a new sense of confidence that I am still working on finding! #122edchat
A2: It's hard to pick a most important thing, but I'd have to say knowing everyone belongs, that everyone matters, that everyone feels at home in our school family and that they are loved. I can't imagine a school without that intentional heart work. #122edchat
A2 It is really important to have a great community. This year has been harder than others-I was injured and missed several weeks of school. So we have been constantly rebuilding our community. We still have 5 weeks, so we will keep building and connecting #122edchat
A3 I always have a hard time with this question, bc a failure in my mind becomes a learning opportunity, and I don't remember it for long as a negative. I just say "well, that didn't work" and we move on! #122edchat
A4: I've been thinking of launching 2 things... 1. traveling to help schools around the country for free with tech goodness & 2. a student club for passion projects...
#122edchat
A4- I don't fear much, but I would like a clearer plan for myself where Tech is concerned. I would love to incorporate all different apps into my class instruction. #122edchat
A4: Write. I wanted to blog this year, but I was always fearful of what others might think or say. I try to keep my thoughts and feelings to myself the best I can. Some days are better than others. #122edchat
A3: I feel like I alienated myself with a lot of the staff. I ignored negativity and became a pocket innovator. I wish I knew how to improve morale... or be able to communicate what I see. Because it’s beautiful. But instead, I shut down and retreat to my room. #122edchat
A4: As a soon to be 1st year teacher, I have many fears due to wanting the year to go smoothly so much so that I have been dreaming about my classroom already. If I had no fears, I would be more willing to venture beyond the status quo and try new avenues of learning. #122edchat
A4 More self-guided inquiry and learning with skills building in a Workshop model. Also, using @Flipgrid with @MrPStrunk ...My hope is all of this comes true next year. #122edchat
A3: I would have to say greatest failure was time management-not realizing the amount of time that some tasks would take and moving ahead too quickly. I hope to plan things out better and spend more time on what is important. #122edchat
A4 I have no fear, lol. I also have no time. 50 minute periods continue to be the bane of my existence. I am still researching the magic answer to this... #122edchat
A4: Have a class Youtube channel. Kids always talk about how they stream their games. What if they streamed their learning too? #122edchat@ERobbPrincipal@KGT_Educator
A1: I look for someone to listen and give me an alternative view. We all need perspective when our little issues seem big or hard to handle. #122edchat
A4 I don't really have job based fears, I just try it if it makes sense to do. Every year I pledge to try something new to move my teaching forward. Next year, it is a total blended learning classroom! #122edchat
A4: Write. I wanted to blog this year, but I was always fearful of what others might think or say. I try to keep my thoughts and feelings to myself the best I can. Some days are better than others. #122edchat
The core of our 4th grade team that remains after the crazy year is learning to do that now. We are finding each of our strengths and weaknesses and balancing the responsibilities better. I think year 2 will be amazing! #122edchat
I love blogging for personal reflection. I feel like Dumbledore in front of his Pensive when I write. Podcasting is something I really want to get into #122edchat
A4: Go Montessori. Get rid of the subject blocks and be able to work better with Ss when they need it, not have 1/3 bored 1/3 struggle and 1/3 ok with the same lesson at the same time. #122edchat
A3. So many -
Hard to pick just one but My kids and I have failed enthusiastically together! Every failure opens another door to success;) #GrowthMindset#122edchat
Wish I had time for fears next year... we have 12 out of 25 programs changing or new next year... just have to be prepared for and open to the unexpected! Lots of opportunity for success and learning... #122EdChat
I love how you said, "Meeting Ts and Ss where they are." Too often the expectation is for people to get on our level instead of meeting them in their current need. #122edchat
I'd love to read your reflections. I used to shake when I'd hit the publish button, but after 1470 posts, I'm pretty convinced that the learning is as much for me as it is for my readers. #122edchat
A5: I can invest more time and research community building, as well as allowing myself to take that extra time during the beginning of the school year. I'll look to @MrPStrunk, @ToddRisser, and many other colleagues to gather ideas! #122edchat
A3 Our community fell apart while I was on medical leave. I have spent a lot of time looking at problem areas/times to figure out what I can do to rebuild. There have been times where I broke down about it, (not in front of the Ss) but I keep trying new strategies #122edchat
A2: the most important thing in my classroom is that it feels like home for me and my students. I keep snacks, a microwave, fridge, coffee pot, and plenty of decorations with alternative seating. I spend more time there than in my own house! #122edchat
A4: Change my whole curriculum to @thegridmethod and #teachfurther model of teaching the entire year. For now, I'm hoping for at least two units and then moving on from there. #122edchat
A5: @CoriOrlando1 is in my corner, cheering for me out in California, shouting things like "Just ship it!" I'll do it. I promise. This year will be the year. #122edchat
A5: There are too many people to mention.....pretty much everyone in this chat currently plus many more. Thanks guys for what you have helped me with and what we will help each other with in the future. #122edchat
A4: tough question. Many things I want to learn and grow. Definitely want to do more with technology and #globalcollaborations. If I had no fears, I would probably sing and play instruments more for my Ss too. #FormerMusicMajor#122edchat
A5 I am one to do and prove myself and my methods first, then ask for forgiveness knowing that my teaching was highly effective and no one will say no at that point. #122edchat
A4: Retire from public education and take that leap of faith into the world of consulting and coaching. So scary to leave what I know for the unknown, especially with two boys in college! #122edchat
A5: I want to start by figuring out how to improve my classroom blog. Once we improve that type of sharing, then I think I would feel more comfortable with a video platform. :) I know @PHausTech has my back! #122edchat
A3: I had many behavioral challenges in my classroom. Many times, I found that nothing worked how I hoped it would. Through it, I learned many strategies. #122edchat
A4: I don’t have fears, really. Except of MRI machines. I don’t plan on entering one in my room next year, lol. I have a vision though.A #pbl for each unit, better p comm., checklist of concepts so I can check off for each ss, not enough characters for rest, lol! #122edChat
A5: As a new teacher, I know that I need to be confident in my abilities and push forward because I am starting a beautiful new adventure. I know that my PLN will always have my back, and I am so grateful for that. #122edchat
Congrats @JoyKirr and @btcostello05! You have survived and advanced to the championship party for hosting #122edchat held at your local @DairyQueen. Go get a blizzard and tell them I sent you....seriously guys, thank you for taking time to lead in this community of learners.
A5: #1 (helping other schools) has begun this year and is my proposed #GoogleInnovator project. #2 (student passion project club) would be a partnership w/some great Ts... Maybe @MrPStrunk, @Woodshopcowboy?
#122edchat
A5-I need to explore what is out there over the summer. I have to really look at what all of these tools have to offer. @_on11 could really help me with this. He is a wealth of knowledge!! #122edchat
I'll put your blog on my Feedly feed so I can see EVERY post and comment and encourage - I REALLY think this is what you (and everyone else) need to do!! #122edchat
What? That’s even worse! I wonder if this is a union issue. 40 minutes, let alone 50 isn’t enough time to truly get into a subject/concept/activity/discussion, you name it! #122edchat
A4: I want to embrace more technology that I share with my Ss and Ts I collaborate with. I’m attending a digital learning summit this summer and looking forward to all the opportunities this will provide. #122EdChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
#122edchat A5 Steps: keep reading and working on #NGSS methods to see the possibility of Ss leadership
Helpers: The great #PLN that I am honorrd to be a part of
A5 If I work a 120%, I can block all 3 classes...but not having a prep is not ideal. Otherwise I will block 2 of my 3 classes and go insane instead, lol. #122edchat
A4. Get rid of report cards -
YUCK!!!! Use @Flipgrid to showcase successes, improvements and risk taking-
More personal and give student chance to respond to teacher on grid;) #FlipgridFever#122edchat
A5 Twitter, Reading, and just figure it out. The best way to learn how to do it is to dive in and explore. Doing some edpuzzle and video learning right now #122edchat
A5: Maybe take some PD over the summer. Connect with others on Twitter. I’m also looking for a new position - I’m looking at schools that use #pbl and character skills as a key part of learning. #122edchat
A3: I was new to my school this year, in a new state, across the country. It was a big change & I got a little overwhelmed and lost sight of my fire/passion a little bit I think. I stopped seeking pd with my PLN here on Twitter... But I’m back!#122edchat
A5 It takes persistence to convince admin who are reluctant to change for you to try new journeys. I always got "We don't do that here!" Don't be afraid to try new things. My Educators Pages https://t.co/0o5J2zK9DV#122edchat
A4&5: I want to use my fear to motivate me to speak up for myself and try new activities just because it makes me annoyed to be held back by fear. #122edchat
A5 I can talk to the people I know that podcast with S's, Blogging I will just have to jump in. I also want to learn AR/VR can talk with @m_drez and @JaimeDonally. Just did a webinar with them on AR/VR #122edChat
A5: My ITS & @khoggardGRT raved about attending last year, I couldn’t attend due to vacation but this year- I wasn’t going to miss it! Looking forward to all the sessions I’ll be attending! #122edchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A5 continued support from my #PLN and each of you! Also my work BFF @CristinaDajero who always tells me to go for it, when I ha e a crazy idea! #122edchat
A5 I started weekly Seesaw chats for staff last week. A few staff members attended and were excited about what is going on. Next year I would like to start these earlier and maybe talk to the Starbucks near our school about hosting some there in the Summer #122edchat
A1: fire! Wanting to know more! People who know s’s are children! Ppl who want the best for their s’s, passion, curiosity, and someone who can remind me to breathe sometimes 😁#122EdChat
A3: keeping up close friendships with colleagues while balancing everything else. This year has been difficult to balance friends, career, extra curricular, and family. I’ve learned that friendships, like many things in our careers, can cycle. #122edchat
I just started blogging myself and at first I felt very vulnerable. With each blog I post, the more comfortable I feel. I’d love for you to take a look and tell me what you think. #122edchat#LoveLiteracyLearninghttps://t.co/CFloxinvYG
I will quickly stand up for others, but when it comes to myself, sometimes I would rather not cause waves. I have worked on this issue a lot, but it can still be a stumbling block depending on the situation. #122edchat
I’m still struggling with that as I’m currently looking for a new coaching position because I first love my work and second I still need a steady income as the main income for my family #122edchat#stillgotit! #hacklearning#hackthestatusquo
A4: Retire from public education and take that leap of faith into the world of consulting and coaching. So scary to leave what I know for the unknown, especially with two boys in college! #122edchat
Hey #TellYourStory! Michael A. from #122edchat in Chicago.
A1: I usually don't have trouble sharing. I feel that our losses and struggles are an excellent opportunity for our students to learn how to handle adversity.
A2: my #AppleTV
I use it with every class and in almost every class almost everyday ❤️ I worked hard to learn how to use it & how to use it effectively for every age group pre-K-6th grade. visit the world & hear the music, use games, apps, & it’s all fantastic! #122EdChat
You know - it's really just that I think it's what's best for the kids. YOU do the same. You encourage your staff to do the same. I love the passion that pulls us along this learning journey. :) #122edchat#ShiftThis
No fears? I would get parents more involved with everyday lessons. But honestly, high school parents terrify me! They only hear their child’s interpretation of things, and high schoolers are so CONVINCING! #122edchat
Q2: #122edChat
Creating a sense of community/family! My Ss are my Ss for life. Every year I have Ss write letters to themselves in my first grade class. I mail them along w/ a letter from me when they graduate. I tell them that they are stuck with me for life.
A2: The most importantthong in my classroom is without a doubt my Ss. I would do anything to help anyone of thèm.(Past or Present) They are why I have such an honest passion for teaching; simply because I love them so much! I strive to support the spark! @CheezSupe#122edchat
A2: Take some time to be there for yourself and enjoy a hobby or spend time with your family. Also, notice the times that the kids you serve give back to you with a smile or the gift of a cupcake or a sweet word. Those little gifts are what keep us going. #122edchat
