I know my tribe and I know that I am not the only person who feels this way and pursues his, her, or their own professional development. No way am I hanging around waiting for new ideas, strategies, and approaches. I read. I come here. PD is me. And I know it is others. #edchat
I think one of the more interesting thoughts in the podcast was on quality media - "Why pay professionals to do it when you can have someone tell you what you want to hear for free?" That's a dilemma. #medialiteracy#edtech#edchat#EdTechAfterDark
One thing I've found in the personalizing of my own PD experiences is that I can spend up to fifty dollars on a classroom title and then make an earnest connection here at Twitter with the author. These thought leaders give back so generously in this regard. I'm grateful. #edchat
We have outstanding PD. 8 yrs ago before we went to 1:1 devices the next yr. We did PD for a yr. to get ready. We continue to build on that among many other things! #edchat

Former classroom teacher, now work in museum education. Am interested in the convergence of where museums can help provide PD for classroom teachers using our resources and collections #edchat
Our #PLCs work well most of the time but we can get off track, when we focus on the basic questions: What do we want Ss to learn, How do we know they learned it, What do we do when the do learn, What do we do when the don't... We are our best #edchat

Oh yes! My district believes T’s can do everything by themselves. Train themselves on tech, fund our classrooms, and solve just about any problem that comes our way. All without insight, guidance, or cheers from the D.O. Except 1 st day back to school. #edchat
What sorts of professional development opportunities beyond the school and district are teachers able to take back and share as part of department or school meetings? #edchat
When I was in the classroom, some of the most impactful PD I received was working with the folks at @writingproject@CWP Really helped me prepare my students for 21st C literacy demands #edchat
Used @barryLane's titles in my classroom for years. He is a friend, mentor, and guide (even if he doesn't know). Last week, he made sure Maja Wilson's ReImagining Writing Assessment was on my radar. I read it this weekend. Now sharing Voxer space with two other readers. #edchat
My fellow ESOL T and I attended a session by @HeinemannPD this fall. Our Title III department encourages us to attend GATESOL and Nat'l TESOL conferences (sometimes will fund, too). #Edchat
A subtle difference between "How do we increase student attendance?" and "How do we create an environment where students want to attend school?" The second question puts an onus on what environments we create in our classrooms that students are excited to be a part of.
Really... not sure about the 'maintain relevance' portion of the question. Maintain implies existent ing relevancy... #edchat So tell me when was the last time the current education system was considered relevant?

Here’s something wild. My district is asking us to design our own PD as part of contract negotiations. What a concept! I imagine educators just getting together and discussing what’s working and what’s not will actually produce some GOOD ideas. Wacky! I know. #edchat Exciting!
Tonight, I am working with a student who is way ahead on a project. She is claiming this large project as her own and moving forward. She runs everything by me before moving. She says that this is what she sees me do. Reading. Participating in threaded chats. They see us. #edchat
Teacher need funded opportunities for PD onsite, district wide, and with outside providers, non-profits, museums, etc... to support the life-long learning of teachers. #edchat#RISE2018

I don't think our entire system is irrelevant. Does it need some change? Absolutely. Are there "old-school" things that work? Absolutely. Maybe we need to be more discerning. #Edchat

The capacity to hear hard truth is the single most important characteristic for any parent wanting their kids to be successful. Can you heard hard truths? Do you embrace your lessons. Are you leading? #edchat#Parenting#prodigyfuture
It has been a slow shift from sit and get PD to examine our needs and find how to fill them. Nothing spontaneous, often asking for guidance and reassurance but a move in the right direction #Edchat

Check this out! Our district did not plan paid PD on the new SIS that was implemented in the fall. Can you guess what has happened through the year? Here’s a clue. Garbage in garbage out. https://t.co/rRlNLlBshl#edchat
Bottom line PD is imperative to the success of the school culture! If we don't communicate as teachers & administrators, why should the students/ #edchat
Now underway... #edchat Topic: How is the professional development provided by your school or district meeting your needs to maintain relevance in the 21st century?
Our school holds "lab classrooms". Ts observe other Ts in the building. The "visitors" learn about new ideas there (what they didn't before know)! #Edchat
I loved the edcamp model. Went to a few before I retired. Learning from Ts and sharing the How’s and whys. Of course those big conferences gave me a chance to hear keynote speakers. A thrill I might add #edchat

Wish I knew the answer 2 that. So little admin time is spent attempting to make, PD (I call it, “Professional Engagement”) time , relevant 2 each & every teacher. Each T should be truly “engaged” during the time spent (in the same way we expect teacher classrooms to be). #edchat
They may believe they are okay because they are following their 20th century training with a 20th century mindset. It is the mindset of too many. #Edchat
We have a group of teachers that meets with the administration monthly or more to plan PD! When we start the new school yr there is a PD schedule for the yr! Subject to change! #edchat
We are doing #EdCamp style PD within our building. We value the empowerment & personalization of our teachers & their learning! Innovation is in our mission statement, so we much always uphold our mission! #Edchat#PD

And, I just got approved to be a member of the Indiana Maker Educator Network at Facebook. These are the ways and means by which we stay connected. This isn't waiting for the call. It's responding to that inner call to connect and to grow with others in the practice. #edchat
Superintendent Anthony Perkins of @GilaBendUSD commits to breaking the cycle of low academic achievement by having Ss develop the habit of analyzing situations from multiple perspectives & learning negotiation strategy within the classroom.- https://t.co/bktSaFnBw2#edchat#NJed

Although, as someone who leads PD at least once a year, some Ts don't want to have to think. "just let me sit here, grade papers, and check off that I attended." #Edchat
I'll just keep going if you don't mind: @amylvpoemfarm@SylviaVardell@janetwongauthor@Rebeccakai These are just a few poetry friends that I know I can ask a question or send an idea and get quick and meaningful response. PD is here if we want it. And it's all free. #edchat

If PD is to ever work it must be prioritized and supported on a continual basis This is a commitment that not many districts will make. It's a money issue. #Edchat
Successful PD when Ts can’t wait to share what they’re learning with you in the lunch room. You see that room is not always the grumble and complain platform LOL #edchat
ALL learning is personal ... it should be about ourself and our needs. If district can't do it then it is up to us. Sitting and waiting for our night in shining PD armor is NOT an option. The Bud Knight isn't coming #edchat

I have attended wonderful PD. I have attended waste of time oh my god when is this over PD. Best PD ALWAYS takes into account what the daily goals of each teacher are in each specific classroom. That’s tough to do but can be done. #edchat
I wonder how mentors and a collaborative learning culture within a school help teachers and admin recognize their own strengths and professional learning needs. #edchat
The thing about anger is that everyone has to keep outdoing each other. It isn’t real. It isn’t healthy. It isn’t sane. It’s also spreading. #edchat#parenting#mindfulness#prodigyfuture
It is vital to provide practice, discussion, and reflection time of any new idea or tool during PD sessions. Don't we have guided practice with students? #edchat
Implementation the VERY NEXT DAY! Teachers created google classrooms, started @Seesaw accounts, experimented with @Flipgrid & shared it all via twitter! It’s been amazing! It’s not a one size fits all for students or teachers! #edchat#edcamp
This is really the core of the issue, isn't it? Teachers need to be in love with learning and personal growth. How can we expect our Ss to do the same if we don't set the example for them? You get what you pay for, my grand-mammy used to say. #edchat
My district meets some PD needs, but I feel that’s it’s really my duty as a learner & teacher, to attend & participate in PD that’s meaningful to me & my development #edchat
Best PD when you get to choose what you need to support your work in the classroom. successful PD hearing what’s out there that may impact your teaching. Now for me successful PD is Twitter. Have all options available here #edchat

neither do I ... quite honestly, they are not my concern ... my concern is my kids, me, and the people around me (my school) ... if they want to wait ... so be it. At some point we have to be professionally responsible for ourselves. #edchat
#edchat Should we shorten the long summer break from school? Maybe not - While cutting the long summer holidays would help working parents, it may not be so great for teache https://t.co/OwCRqhDWTz

My problem is that too many will choose PD that is comfortable rather than what is needed. Difficult subjects may never be addressed. It's a human failing, not an educator thing. #Edchat

After having worked in the DO in a big urban district I saw how PD was treated. As an after thought. Like herding cats getting folks to follow through on anything that is not crisis management related. Not saying DO folks don’t care. They do. But they R disconnected #edchat
I think the other part of teacher/ admin professional development is implementation. How are educators supported after PD sessions to implement best practices in their classrooms/schools? Does PD fail without continued & ongoing support? #edchat
I’ve become an outlier. I know what I know but want to know more and not too subtly I find out what I don’t know and I do search it out. #edchat being comfortable in sharing, helps

If Ts find something they can use that same day or the very next day, it won't be forgotten. I find that philosophical PD is forgotten, and strategic PD less so. #Edchat
I really wonder how many T’s really want to do something new. EducatorsTwitter are the Choir. Takes energy, time, patience, and the willingness to fail in front of students and parents. I wonder how many T’s are comfortable with the last one, especially with HS credits #edchat

I remember some time ago--there used to be a lot of funding within some of the larger, national PD organizations to support local sites. Not so much now. But, to wait for PD thinking back to this time is the very definition of "cargo cult" mentality, yes? We can't wait. #edchat
But isn’t it up to Ts to push that agenda. #edchat if something grabs you can’t we use our voice to ask for more time to figure it out and not put it on the back burner

Absolutely agree! Where can educators look to educate themselves between PD sessions or to receive more ‘targeted PD instruction?’ For me, these Twitter chats definitely help, as well as educational YouTube videos (e.g., math concepts). #edchat

It's important to note I might be a little shy in approaching @LRobbTeacher at the big convention (though I have helped her to carry materials before). But, interacting with her here and meeting @ERobbPrincipal (via his blog) is an example of the PD that can happen here. #edchat

ATD is grounded in:
1. Will it help the students?
2. Will it help me?
3. Will it help the school?
4. “Why” do I need this?
5. “How” will I use it? #edchat
Most PD is based on pedagogy (child learning) the motivations for learning are different from Andragogy (Adult learning). We need to pay attention to this when working with adults. #Edchat
