Q1 coming up in 1 minute…
Hi . Lisa from OH. Elementary teacher.
Hi. Jen from NY. Teacher and tech leader.
Q1: What is the difference between the types of tools you used in your first year of teaching and the tools you use now?
Hi! Christina from here! Excited to hear from some amazing teachers tonight!
Hello from Maine! Julie Willcott, STEM educator. Also love to hear what is happening with SAMR in the classroom.
A1: The types of tools I used in my first year of teaching were so basic, basically just digitizing classroom work/wrksts
A1: a world of diff. Year 1 big deal to have a small TV to show PPT and laptops for science probes. Now chromebooks, VR, phones
A1: In 2001 we were one of the first 1 to 1 programs in the country but still had so much to learn. Def using substitution only
Big thank you to for their support highlighting great teacher practices and making State of Edtech possible.
A1: started in 1997, no computer or Internet. Today we are 1:1, I have mobile device, laptop, Smartboard
. What a change! Do you think it has made things better?
ahhhh yes, I remember those days. It was a HUGE deal when my middle school got TV's in every classroom
It is so true that my implementing technology began with substitution - SAMR itself was a learning process.
A1: First yr - overhead projector, a digital grade book my second year. Last yr - 2:1 laptops, tons of GAF tools,
Hi, Linda from Utah. Middle school special educator of 32 years.
Wow! 1:1 in 2001 - that's pretty cool. How have things changed?
More efficient, but good teaching is good teaching regardless of technology.
A1: Well, I have been working a long time and can actually remember dittos. So laptops and tablets with internet is amazing.
the purple ones from the mimeograph?
It is difficult to Redefine when first implementing technology;you need to start at the beginning.
Q1 Soooo different! I used a mimeograph machine to reproduce lots of worksheets, and now much of our work is online!
Started when copiers were fancy. Had this machine with a drum that printed blue ink on papers as you turned it.
our T1 school has the hardware, but most teachers have used it for substitution (myself included, altho I hope not now!)
- What does it take to move up the SAMR ladder? Or is that even ideal all the time?

Q2: What is the difference between how you integrated edtech in your first year of teaching and how you integrate them now?
A1: My first year, tech was used to produce end products (re: presentations); later tech was used to help guide a process
Or what you did once tech emerged :) https://t.co/ng0hKMcpmh
Q2: What is the difference between how you integrated edtech in your first year of teaching and how you integrate them now?
Hey - middle school science teacher for 5 years and current curriculum writer.
Q2: No Ed tech in 1997, but more thoughtful now about why I choose certain tools than in previous years
Big shout out to who was featured in our State of Edtech report for her use of SAMR in ELA! https://t.co/O5NZb9HHAi
A2. At first, I thought about what to do with tech, now the focus is on S learning outcomes & S agency and creativity
A2: Technology now allows for a personalized approach. During the early days it was one size fits all.
A1: I'm not afraid!!! Proud to make mistakes and learn from them. Allow Ss to make choices
A2: Also technology is so ubiquitous now, its more about matching the objective than the tool itself
A2: I think the tech that is out there now helps teachers with efficiency-better spent quality time teaching/planning
A2: When I first used tech, I integrated to simply substitute what i was already doing - making grading more transparent
A1 - 1st year teaching I needed tools to help me/teacher. Later on, tools that focused on for students
Brilliant!!!! https://t.co/eK4PzmyqDd

but what about multi-media projects like videos-- I made those in 1997! (a great on on Existentialism
A2: Love that we can connect and have the world at our fingertips. Ss are resourceful and look for answers.
Which tool is best for the job? Meets multiple learning styles? is most efficient for task?
A2 - Integrating tech became abt redesigning the classroom to ensure we met the needs of all kids.
oh my no, didn't even have a tv in my first private school position
YES! I feel like we get more savvy and sophisticated about matching tools to our pedagogical approach.
A2 - should be required for all teacher training
A1 I found myself reaching in my 1st year. I have simplified the tools I use since then. Gafe, qr codes & educreations.
Q3 coming up in 1 minute…
. Classroom redesign is such an important element of how we approach to technology
How did you go from complex to simplified!!?
Hey - instructional technology coordinator for Contra Costa County in the CA Bay Area checking in. Looking to expand my pln!

Q3: What is an example of technology have you successfully integrated into your classroom?
A3: I've successfully integrated chrome books so that they are a tool to do things we couldn't do before. Not just to use them.

A3: I loved Google Classroom and Microsoft OneNote for productivity.
A3: Gafe and Padlet for collab, Schoology for organization
A2 1st yr of 1:1 was a lot of simple substitution. Now, deeper dives, cross curric, differentiation, & plenty of .
