A1A: Love the word list - so many contexts for each word!
A1B: Stood outside the media center with lights off so Ss couldn't see book fair, and showcased a book at each class change last week. Fun stuff!
#tlap
A1: We started today with a mystery outdoor assembly and then this happened...Starting our superhero journey for the year @bfes_ltps#tlap - The kids went wild and you should have heard the questions
A1: Introducing students to new things! We have begun Novel Engineering and #emergingengineers this year! Kids are so excited to build and create to showcase their passions and voice!#tlap
#TLAP Q1 I am a visual learner myself, so seeing things makes for a better learning experience for me. Whether this is an assignment, ink from the teacher, or posters hanging in the room. I like building suspense by changing it everyday. Ss look forward to the new discovery.

A1: seems like #inktober would easily fit into a #gamified classroom as a form of sidequest or as storytelling building through the month. Maybe passing the story ala #passthesketchnote#xplap#tlap
A1. Performing a crime scene mystery experiment to solve! Where Ss have to utilize their skills, ask questions, solve problems, figure out unknowns variables, make reasonable deductions from information and data obtained! #tlap
A1) Math can be so visual. Just give Ss paper and colors and ask them@to draw the Math. No letters or numbers allowed. You would be amazed at what they come up with #tlap
Check out all these teachers in "The Four O'Clock Faculty" book study with @JennaKuder Problem solving & sharing ideas to improve PD. Special thanks to @YeagerBrent for the light dinner & treats! # Big3 #reflectioniskey#professionallearning
A1: I see illustrations in the future: let's draw a scene from a book and use quotes to justify it. Let's make a propaganda poster for a cause you believe in! Let's illustrate our vocab. sentences or make vocab. comics instead of writing sentences! #TLAP
A1 I don’t provide the questions; the students do. No prompts, no question lists. Everything begins with the students’ reactions to the material, then small group and class discussions & collaboration & individual freedom, then lots of nudging! #tlap
A1: We have some lame duck days this week & im planning on doodle noting some TEDtalks & podcasts & then discuss! We also do mandalas & Diwali with Indus RV! #tlap
A1: lately I have been using photos as bell ringers. I have students ask questions about the photo and we discuss what’s really happening. I also completed my first mystery bag. Ss asked questions and figured out it was a WW1 helmet. #tlap
Hi! Jen from Maryland. I teach middle school computer science and robotics. My most recent creative adventure was redoing my classroom... complete with a full on chalk wall! #tlap

A1 first I have heard of #inktober but excited to share the new info with Ts and see what we can come up with. Leadership mtg tomorrow so good timing!! #tlap
A1: Just having Ss brainstorm about #inktober could create some interesting responses! What creative things could you create with a bottle of ink? How has ink changed the world? Might be some great writing prompts with this hashtag! #tlap

Hello! Love creativity talks. I’m a Pre-K teacher in Tn. Most recently #sketchnotes have been my creative adventure. Creating them, sharing them, teaching others to use them. 😍#tlap
Q2. SUSPENSE - Element of surprise is such a great way to hook Ss into the creative process. (Look at the show CHOPPED & the unknown/random basket of ingredients. It leads to amazing creations) How might you help build up suspense using INKTOBER, throughout Oct? #tlap#K12ArtChat
A1: Ok, I’m so intrigued by #inktober! I can’t wait to learn more. Like seriously. How did I never hear about this before?!? I must have been living in a cave. #tlap
A1 When I have my own art classroom I would love to do a biology and botany themed Inktober challenge. The students could start with illustrating real plants and animals and then move into making creations of their own. Crocodile chrysanthemum, anyone? #tlap#K12ArtChat

Novel Engineer is a smash of literacy and engineering. Students read a book and before a resolution, they engineer a solution. Our 4th graders started with The Mouse and the Motorcycle and designed a solution for Ralph to get out of the trash can! It is amazing! #tlap

#a1 for many of my Language Learners #inktober is a wonderful vocabulary building tool. Students contemplate a variety of meanings or interpretations of one word. #tlap
Hello #tlap I am the Secondary Principal at Xi’an Liangjiatan International School in XI'an, China. My most creative adventure is initiating yearlong PBL for our @ibmyp students again this year. 2 hours a week for students to lead the learning- any subject they want.
A1 (b) Intrigue build it by not giving away all the details a quest or search should be involved - when we do a see think wonder we don't give the title of the art or info about the artist until after the Ss dig into what they think/ feel about the visuals in front of them #tlap
Hi! Andrea Paulakovich from Kansas. Secondary Instructional Coach/Assistant Director of Learning Services. My most recent creative adventure...a group of rockstar teachers are designing a District-wide Podcast. #tlap
A2: use #inktober like a puzzle. Create and present a scenario. At the end of the month, the drawings solve a mystery as Ss sort through the month-long clues they’ve been creating. #tlap
Hi from Texas! Lifetime sped teacher here, currently teaching 6-8 ELAR. Adventurous teaching experience? Setting up and running a greenhouse with my Ss with multiple disabilities and giving veggies to the cafeteria #tlap
Yes! "Draw every day" is a habit everyone should start, even if art is not their thing. It's a great way to improve creativity, no matter the discipline. #tlap#K12ArtChat
By creating fun contests and peer interactions.
Have gallery walks and post your student's art EVERYWHERE!
Unveil the mystery word to draw in a fun way or location they have to find.

A1: My teachers are starting to use #tlap hooks for students prior to entering the classroom. Thanks @burgessdave for your message for them last week! It made an impact! #leadlap
A1. #inktober prompts are perfect for developing visual thinking! Could add intrigue by stringing together a few prompt icons and get student to uncover the meaning. #tlap

A1: I think that it would be cool to have Ss draw pictures of whatever they want and then swap them and have other Ss develop Qs about the pic to make it into a character/storyline and then develop short stories for them. Fat Qs, Wonder Wall, I ask random Qs a lot. #tlap

A2: This would take an incredible amount of effort to complete, but I'm picturing something similar to an Advent calendar, only for Inktober. Each day unveils a mystery picture - maybe some random fact or activity related to your subject area? Plus a picture, of course. #TLAP
A1 Limitations can often inspire more creative results so I enjoy using the #inktober promts w/ class because it allows students to explore their own curiosity within a limited frame work-it’s a fun challenge! #TLAP

#TLAP A2A: Allow them to create the #inktober board with you to spark questions and discussions. Ss add something new to the T drawing. A2B: One can create a board where a new #inktober is reveiled each day thru gamification.
A2: (2) Ss have to solve clues to find the prompt for the day. This could be great in a gamified classroom. The prompt for one day is tied to the location of the prompt the next day. #tlap#xplap
A2: Have each Ss draw an ink picture. Display one photo a day BUT only show one square of the photo with the rest hidden. Have Ss match the word from the month that best represents the story then reveal at the end of the day! FUN and equitable! #tlap#inktober

#a2 many students are anxious for each new word and sharing responses to a google classroom classroom feed gives opportunities to be surprised by other student's interpretations. #tlap bonus is watching the ArtLady sketch her response live right along with them!

Q3. BRAINTEASER - Is creativity limited to fine arts classrooms? What are some interesting cross-curricular and creative lessons that you’ve teased out and made work for kids? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inkober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A2: This list of words is amazing! You could totally build suspense by unveiling a new word each day. Or by having an #inktober break at random times. #tlap
A2. Save the hook or the suspense until near the end! Have Ss do the activity, but leave the suspense and the why until the end for the gotcha! Drives curiosity and suspense! #tlap
A2 Set up a @Flipgrid and have students "say what they see" and give a rationale explaining the answer.. possibly using a curriculum reference such as weekly vocab words, historical references, mathematical angles, shapes, or scientific connections. #tlap
Hello! Love creativity talks. I’m a Pre-K teacher in Tn. Most recently #sketchnotes have been my creative adventure. Creating them, sharing them, teaching others to use them. 😍#tlap
@CapeJeffTigers Inktober is amazing!!!! I wonder how we could talk about these words (or others) and do maybe some mindfulness?? #BestJeffersonEver#tlap
A2: Maybe have the #inktober word be the word of the day and relate each word back to the daily experience? Like "bottle" for day 18 (my fave number btw) - message is delivered in a bottle to not open until a certain time? #tlap
A3: creativity should NEVER be limited to fine arts! Character autopsies, one-pagers, ads + political cartoons, LEGO builds to show understanding of main ideas and some analysis, building w Play-Doh - all relate to higher level thinking and tie in w skills of ALL age levels #tlap
A3 I had a group of middle school boys. Taught them about crystals. And we made some. Let them explore variations to create something unique. They had to keep iterating to get to their unique creation. #tlap#K12ArtChat
A3: Social Studies/Reading: Create new Greek god/goddess and write him/her into The Odyssey, showing how that person's presence alters the plot. Social Studies/Reading: Write 2 newspaper articles about events in 1936 (Boys in the Boat). Edit together and publish as a paper. #TLAP
A1 (a) #inktober I used a sharpie after school today to make a simple fall bulletin board. I will have my #third graders figure out what other things can be harvested besides crops. Kindness. Friendships. They can doodle their ideas 🖊#tlap#K12ArtChat
Certainly not! I love integrating art whenever and wherever I can.
Our school participated in dot day and I plan to create a fun pumpkin patch for students as well. (These are simply my whole school engagement ideas with art, not specific to a subject)
#tlap#K12ArtChat
Q3. BRAINTEASER - Is creativity limited to fine arts classrooms? What are some interesting cross-curricular and creative lessons that you’ve teased out and made work for kids? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inkober@artsnacks@jakeparker
#tlap#K12ArtChat A3 We were fortunate to have Philo Barnhart, creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid and his friend Charles Moisant visit and share with our students the history of animated movies and sharing art skills. Brought in our 1980s class and art classes to watch.
A3: Creativity is limitless, that’s why it’s creativity, it’s in everything... Davinci showed us that science and art are pretty much one and the same... math has structure, reading is like looking at art, writing is like painting, phys ed is movement... #tlap
A3: Creativity is only limited by the restraints we put in place! I love cross-curricular lessons during themed days w/ stations that offer choice and voice. Perhaps we need an ink station full-time in our Innovation Lab! I do have some fab gel pens to share! #tlap#inktober
Q3. BRAINTEASER - Is creativity limited to fine arts classrooms? What are some interesting cross-curricular and creative lessons that you’ve teased out and made work for kids? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inkober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A3: No, no, no! Creativity is never just fine arts - at least it shouldn't be. It's design thinking, risk & reward. We have the opp to be creative anywhere! Creativity is risk-taking. If we fail the first time, get back on it and power through! #tlap
#tlap sorry i'm joining late! Ben from Georgia...joined a start-up school that meets in a barn but we do some pretty awesome cross-curricular activities!
A3: I worked with my 4th gr team last yr to have Ss make Self reflection poems, Then they drew their self-portraits w/ me & created a rap beat to say their poems. I should them how to put all together! Learning Amazement! #tlap
#tlap inspires no matter the age! I love how it not only gives us permission to be the teachers we want to be, but commands us to do so without apology! #inktober
A3. No. STEM. uses creativity quite a bit! We use cardboard to make things in our group. Magic marble mazes, fidget spinners, pinball machines, etc. #tlap
A3) No. I try to teach my Ts that math is everywhere and relating standards to Ss on an individual level is crucial. Once a T starts to let their creativity take over the possibilities are endless. PBL makes this so accessible and individualized. #tlap
A3 Creativity can be applied anywhere. If we provide learning targets but ditch rubrics & create a safe space for creation, amazing things happen. I had a student create an amazing logo for the “Mr. HELP” acronym for the 5 themes of geography that a rubric would’ve killed #tlap
Q3. BRAINTEASER - Is creativity limited to fine arts classrooms? What are some interesting cross-curricular and creative lessons that you’ve teased out and made work for kids? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inkober@artsnacks@jakeparker
#tlapprintmaking patterns in science or math classes, designing in STEAM classes to illustrated political cartons in civics.... connections are endless! #tlap#a3
A3 Never forget the power of PLAY! #Creativity is an essential element to 21st century teaching & there are many ways to use creative challenges w/ interdisciplinary education like #STEAM, there are always new & interesting ways to use & adapt emerging technology. #TLAP
A3: Creativity is limitless...if you allow it to be! Our town hosts a Salmon Festival and our STEAM Lab teachers have challenged students to show what they know about salmon in whatever ways they want. #tlap
A4: Creativity is this incredible process that occurs when we allow ourselves to color outside the lines, break down the barriers, and imagine the unimaginable! To access all the greatness, you have to give yourself permission to let go and DO! #tlap#inktober
A3: If creativity was bound by limitations, I wouldn’t be a teacher. I ❤️ trying to implement something creative into every lesson. Comics, poems, talents, food, games, tech, out of the box thinking, independence, etc. Going to mix science and history into next lesson #tlap
A3: NEVER limit creativity! Since joining an Elementary school this year I have been blown away by the creativity that is woven within everything! We have designed Plinko for place value, shelters for our reading buddies, made cotton candy machines, & much more! #tlap
Boo! I’m excited to be here tonight for my fav #tlap chat! I’m Marcia Carrillo from Atwater CA, #tosa Induction Coordinator/Mentor to new Ts. My most recent fun was green screen using @DoInkTweets app
A4: Creativity combines thought, enthusiasm, expression, problem solving (in many but not all cases), alone time, collaboration, action... again, due to its limitless nature I’m not sure “defining” it is fully possible... #tlap
A4: Creativity: design, risk and reward... as @burgessdave says in #tlap - it's starting with nothing and ending with something - making. We are all creative.
I become more creative as I allow myself to experience creativity. It's a cycle.
A4 Can creativity be defined? I can only think of non examples and defining it makes a box or rubric for it. I despise both at this point. It’s about creating understanding thru expression. #tlap
A3: Creativity is in every part of the school day, in every content area! When I think of creativity, I think of students having a voice. Each student in our classrooms can express themselves in every concept area we teach. #tlap
Creativity is the decorations on the cake. Not every cake looks the same & there are amazing ones as a result. You access your creativity by using it as often as possible in as many ways as you can. Allow students to express themselves during school & in class.
#tlap#K12ArtChat
A4: My principal @StoneSchool4 is promoting literacy by giving books to Ss and staff. All teachers received #tlap and I loved reading it. All S's and T's get a birthday book. Reading educational books are enjoyable and powerful PD. Thanks @c_villalobos4 ! #ASD4ALL#ILEdChat
A4. Creativity is a risk that comes from within an individual, it deals with expression, feelings, colors, designs, shapes, buildings, constructions, images, of how a person visualizes something and put in into visual action! #tlap
So this answer is incredible! Nicely done Merissa! (and incredibly cool name) #tlap - not every cake looks the same. But dang I love cake. Did someone say cake? Yum!
A4: Creativity is fostered by our individual perspective of the world. It's fearless, it's honest, and the imprints of our creativity become our legacy. #TLAP
#tlap A3- creativity is definitely not just fine arts - I have done things with science-math - Ss and language arts! One of my favs over the years was a glow in the dark museum all about the solar system 🌔⭐️🌎
Hey! I’m Mandi from Virginia Beach, VA. I’m a self-contained Sped teacher for kids with ID, ED, Autism, etc... new to Twitter. Glad I found this group! #tlap
@JayBilly2 I love the Pirate mentality, in my house we have always said I am the captain and my son is 1st mate. And we run a tight ship. But it's all still fun! He loves school! You all are fabulous! Thank you.
A4: I think creativity is taking what you know and pushing it outside of itself. Giving it some sparkle and flair. You access creativity by being courageous and taking risks and forgetting the rules sometimes. By looking at the world as something magical and exploring it. #tlap
A2 My brain goes candy crAzY in October! 😋 We teach map skills. I can have students create a #treasuremap for #INKTOBER Then they hide candy around the school for the other teams to find. Switch maps and follow it to find @Hersheys candy! #tlap
A4) creativity is interpreting what you see, hear, feel, etc into whatever medium you find useful. As long as it makes sense to you and you can communicate its meaning, your product is valuable and respected. #tlap
A3 using Minecraft to build storm proof houses and marketing those houses to specific researched regions that are impacted by those storms! The Ss did phenomenal work! #tlap
A4: Creativity is the result of giving students voice and choice. My students are given the opportunity to display creativity through the use of @Seesaw and @Flipgrid . #tlap
A4: Creativity is about seeing things in new ways, from different perspectives, with fresh ideas. It’s about creation. About making something. About expression. About being bold and brave and being who you are. #tlap
A1: using intrigue at our PD might be “please download Flipgrid app” thank you! #tlap as for #inktober I feel inspired to dress up & leave weekly videos to inspire Ts to #tlap & have a fun October

Creativity is our unique originality! Using it involves critical thinking and problem solving. It’s all about looking at the word through YOUR eyes! Students need these skills more than they need to be able to memorize and regurgitate information!✨ #TLAP
I define creativity as having the ability to open up and express yourself. I access my creativity through collaboration. I find my best ideas when I can bounce off others. Everybody access their creativity in different ways. #tlap

#tlap#K12ArtChat A4 Fortunate to find music creativity in my cousin Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20. He spent the afternoon sharing his craft with our students. They were engaged as they learn from one of the best in the music business. Gave our Ss a new perspective on music.
#tlap A4- creativity to me is expressing yourself in a unique way that you are excited to share. I access creativity within myself by tying big ideas to passions
A5 I genuinely believe and communicate it’s not the quality of the creation (skills wise) it’s the connections. I try to provide example across a spectrum and address the idea expressed not the how. Allows for confidence #tlap

A5: Create a culture of safety and trust in the classroom. Ss need to feel safe being vulnerable - creativity can be a very personal thing for many, so Ss need to feel safe and accepted. Boost confidence by praising & showcasing creativity as you see it #tlap
A5 fear is the summation of all the people that tell you not to do something. It is from all the negative energy bundled up inside of you. Know that every step forward is a path to a new experience that you will learn something #tlap

A5: I think humor plays a big role... the ability to joke & laugh at yourself I think helps to mix it up when it comes to the courage needed to be creative... let’s face it, learning takes risk - ya gotta put yourself out there!!! #tlap
A5: Model the risk taking and ideals you cherish. Give props for trying and taking chances. Iterate and try again. Most of all, take that first step #tlap
#tlap A5. we try to build creativity and presentation into our culture...recently, we had the boys host their moms for a "mother's luncheon" where they presented without any prep...real audience and consistent creativity helps reduce fear.
A5: Relationships. Get to know your students well. Encourage them in their creative endeavors. Provide opportunities for students to share creative pieces with others. Over time, they build confidence when their creations are met with support. #TLAP
A5 Speak confidence into Ss daily and show them the the power of trying again and again by getting back up over and over when you fail yourself. Let them see your vulnerability. #tlap
A4: my son's interpretation of Grit f/ a science poster project tonight & his intentional use of symbolism. Although he can't articulate it at 10- his expression of this word is profound. The boy literally googled & studied graffiti art & letters #tlap#engagement#mentortech
Final product- not really- he’s adding more. Notice the black and white hand erasing “im” from impossible - when I asked why black and white he said bc he didn’t want to pick a skin color and leave someone out🤯🤯🤯 #WO2World@cyndisueboo

A5: Be there to support them. Whether they are a student or a teacher, we want to encourage them to take risks, set sail into uncharted territory and not be afraid to see what is out there.....Success can be anywhere! #tlap
A5: With some lessons, anythng goes.want them to try and if it fails, that’s okay- we get up.try to treat evrythng like it is an amazingly new &spectacular idea- &a lot of times, they are. I challenge Ss with things outside their comfort zone, give affirmations all the way #tlap
Q5. FEAR - Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” Overcoming fear is a factor in building creative confidence. How do you help reduce the fear and build up your students creative skills in your classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@jakeparker@artsnacks
A3. Creativity is not just for the art room. This digital age highly prizes the creative spirit. Also, the power of making songs using academic content can never be underrated. I lack the gift of a pretty voice, but I can get silly and match my content to a tune #tlap#K12ArtChat
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A5) I challenge Ss to catch my mistakes and thank them for doing so. We build a community where being wrong is ok, as long as you recognize it as a teachable moment, so taking risks becomes natural. #tlap
A5: To foster creativity, we need to make time for students to create and then we need to celebrate the heck out of whatever was created. We need to model our own risk taking and creative pursuits. #tlap
A5: Be a model. Show Ss how you can use ANYTHING for inspiration. I love using music lyrics, photos, poems, movie clips, magazines, or Speed Dating books for inspiration. #tlap
A5. Encourage them, Work and do things with them. share mistakes, show problem solving, thinking, resolving issues, moving on! Ss will do the same! #tlap
A6: #BreakoutEDU is one of our favorites. I love giving Ss an opportunity to create their own game in Breakout! So creative in their locks and clues! #tlap
A5: Tapping into our own creativity & risk-taking & sharing that w/ Ss is so important. It sets the stage for them to do the same. What lights you on fire? Share with Ss and then give them a platform and space to share their own creative passions with you. #TLAP#Path2Serendipity
A6: Last year we challenged our Ss to make some aspect of the Winter Olympics better. Our Ss creations were awesome, but they had a lot of reiterations when it came to creating prototypes! Take a peek: https://t.co/9zKtFj6m2D and https://t.co/0hpY92DWf9#tlap
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A5 We have Comfort Challenges all year to push us to try. Students are also encouraged to make their thinking and work the best they can, make it reflect their vision and their best before saying “it’s done.” I always ask, “Is it? What else would you do? Because you can...” #tlap
Q5. FEAR - Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” Overcoming fear is a factor in building creative confidence. How do you help reduce the fear and build up your students creative skills in your classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@jakeparker@artsnacks
A5: I think of a flipped classroom when it comes to building creative confidence. They create their own opinions and knowledge based on their research. This gains confidence and reassurance in students when it comes to class. #tlap
#tlap I once had them create a carnival game with very few supplies and no verbal communication - it was awesome to watch them communicate their ideas to the group in other ways
Ha! Loved when we got to chat with him for our #tlap book study! So much fun! I could use a dose of that enthusiasm again TBH - it is October in education after all, lol.
A5 One year 2 of my Ss wouldn't read during indy reading, only draw. They made deal w/ me. Alt read and drawing. Top readers were angry but I'm glad I did it for that class. #tlap
Q5. FEAR - Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” Overcoming fear is a factor in building creative confidence. How do you help reduce the fear and build up your students creative skills in your classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@jakeparker@artsnacks
Sharing their creative pieces with each other should start when they are young! Having positive experiences with this while they are young will create positive outlooks inside them in the future. Thanks for sharing! #tlap
A3: our school @The_MHS_Bear Ts combine together to create dia de Los Muertos celebration: art does chalk drawings on cement, SS creates a graveyard near it, food class: cooksmexican food, ELA-writes stories, poems, etc; how can we involve science? #tlap

@GrundlerArt, @ArtSnacks, @jakeparker, @The_MHS_Bear
A6: Really trying to make units and standards applicable this year and so have been thinking of larger projs for students to implement the unit, standards, and their own spin on those in their own way all into one project. So far, so good. Challenges them to try new tools. #tlap
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A5 Acceptance of ideas- really listen to a child's interpretation. I am not an art teacher but my son is very creative. He downplays his creative expression to fit the status quo because he worries his ideas won't be "what the teacher wants"😳 #TLAP

A6 When I start to hand over control there’s angst because by 9th grade Ss are so used to rubrics & “boxes” that creative license can be like deer in headlights. I am trying to come up with a prompt like “the most creative display of understanding will get the most XP” #tlap
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A6
SIDE QUESTS
💥💥💥💥💥
My #XPLAP class #gamification experience has been mind-blowing! ❤️ offering creative side quests each week on the content we are studying! Optional, no grade, only XP, and nearly 100% participation! This week.. comics, #BookSnaps, and #EduGIFs! #TLAP
A5: Limitations are needed so that the projects are creative while being practical. Ex: I had students design an "ideal" school system, but I had to give them specific objectives that their system had to follow so their schools wouldn't be kids playing Fortnite all day. #TLAP
A6 We do instruction-less challenges and reflect on our actions & reactions. We’ve also thoroughly discussed why we have our class mottos: 1. Let’s see what we can do. 2. You’re smart; you can figure it out. 3. Do good things, be good people. 4. It’s not a No.. what’s next? #tlap
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
#tlap A6 i know a zipline activity isn't realistic for all...but putting kids in uncomfortable situations forced them to embrace challenge or retreat from it...challenge forces kids to be creative!
A6 I have been challenging my Ts similar to how they do Ss. @Flipgrid , book study on @padlet and flipgrid, iMovie productions, room transformations and data carousels. They are nailing all of it. #Rockstarteam#tlap
A6 my answer for Q5 would have been better for this Q! Had a good reader that year who had some fine motor issues. He didn't like "free Draw " time but he had to do it. He got better and so did I #tlap
Q6. ANGST - A good challenge, like #inktober is always a great way to create interest and even a bit of healthy frustration. What challenges have you used to amp up creativity in the classroom? #tlap#K12ArtChat@inktober@artsnacks@jakeparker
A6: This Q has got me thinking! We do school-wide challenges to bring in cans or show spirit or spread kindness all the time. And those are important. But we need a school-wide challenge to learn something. To write something. To create something. The ideas are flowing... #tlap
A6: We were learning abt drawing continuous line contour. I asked my Ss to use pen only, (They could have died!) it was like I asked them to crave it in stone. But they improved the better for it! #tlap#K12ArtChat
Agreed, my friend. Agreed. One of the most generous people I know. Funny that I don't really know him, but feel like I've known him forever - love that Twitter can do that for our #PLN. Those outside of Twitter think I'm nuts for being "friends" with folks online. #tlap
A5: Having Ss work in partners or groups to create videos or pics is helpful vs alone. Also creating a video/pic area that doesn’t face Ss, private, also can video at lunch #tlap I always go first & try to be a big GOOB on purpose!
A7: Time to problem solve. Re-evaluate. Fail harder. Ya can’t punish a student who takes a cool, creative risk & have go wrong... this, too, is a step in the creative process... #tlap
A7: Sometimes as Ts we have to share the stories of our failures to provide Ss the opportunities to show grace. Read what happened when one of our teachers ruined her students' art projects by a simple mistake: https://t.co/tsVas9kdfc#tlap#inktober
A7: I find 1 of 2 things happens in this case- it’s a flop, but I can take bits and pieces and mold it into something better/use it in something completely different. OR it turns out WAY better than I even imagined and can add/update later. Never a total loss! #tlap
A7: Love this question! Sometimes things can go wrong. Just pick up where things were last going right and move forward. You've just discovered something that doesn't work; Congratulations! The final product can still be mind-blowing. #tlap
A7: Sometimes the success is in the journey, not the destination. Learning from failure leads to success in that students learn resilience, perseverance and the value of hard work. #tlap
A7) I have had a number of PBLs go wrong. You come up with solutions quickly, acknowledge your mistakes, and keep class rolling. Nobody’s perfect. In the end it all works out and you will do it better next time. #tlap
A7. No, it’s frustrating but Im sure I got something out of it and had some good conversation out of it. Plus great opportunity to model trying again! #tlap
A7: I teach students the art of the origami rock. You teach them a bunch of random folds you make up with whatever paper students have near by that failed. Once it looks like a ball you play paper basketball and move on. #tlap
A7: A creative product is never a complete loss. Take away the good, learn from the bad, and try something else. Would we ever really succeed if we never failed? Failure is part of life, and how do we expect our students to learn to overcome it if we succumb to it? #TLAP
A7: The product is not a complete loss. We are human and learn best from our failures. Teachers are not perfect, and it is important for our students to realize we can learn from our mistakes and failures. #tlap
A7 So I have released Ss to demonstrate their understanding of the 5 themes of Geography and some have done AMAZING creations but then forgot to include something. I tell them—don’t ruin your awesome work. Add a reflection sheet stating what you forgot. Increases learning #tlap
Special thanks to @Artguy76 & @GrundlerArt for hosting #tlap tonight and for bringing us some #Inktober creativity! Be sure to check out and support their awesome chat community at #K12ArtChat each week! This gif could have literally been drawn by me...
Bonus: Ask questions, get answers, move on. It's a conscious decision to be moving forward with purpose. Looking forward to infusing more creativity this year! #tlap
A7: The learning and growth that happens throughout the process is never a loss. Is the process the goal, or is the product the goal? So often the process produces so much more than the actual product. #TLAP#Path2Serendipity
#TLAP A7 Any failure is always a lesson learned. The fail might turn into a new discussion or it could just be a good reminder for how to change things the next time you do it!
A7 That’s not wrong, that’s learning! It’s the Complex Problem-Solving students need to practice but rarely get to experience because the lesson is perfectly planned. That’s creativity, true collaboration, inspiration, and FUN. That’s the true teachable moment. #tlap
A5. I help my Ss reduce fear by telling them stories of how I tried and failed - opportunities to grow big! I build their confidence as readers, writers and mathematicians by showing them the skills needed. Also, I’m 💯 me and I accept them 💯 I seek to understand more #tlap

Saw lots of new faces in #tlap tonight - followed lots of folks - be sure to add to your #PLN and keep the connections going! See y'all next week, friends!
BONUS: Each school year is new. Don't stick to all of your old lesson plans: be bold and try something you've never tried before, no matter how crazy the idea (just please don't get yourself fired!) #TLAP
Bonus: bewilderment is a choice in my opinion. Your circumstances may suck. Doesn’t mean you do. Find a positive input (like this chat). #tlap#leadlap#K12ArtChat
