#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
A0.5 Looking for more automation tools for social media and twitter - love tweetdeck for chats, but no real good solutions for bulk messaging and tracking that don't cost and arm and a leg #edtechchat
How do you defeat the sense of complacency and allow students to find their own passion? And, what can school librarians do to support content teachers? What tools, resources, etc? #edtechchat
Its similar to Padlet but after the participants add their thought blocks everyone has a chance to vote on their favorites. You can set it for the participants to have up to 5 votes. The votes show as dots under each block so you can see the results. really cool #edtechchat
Our Technology pages https://t.co/rhtEBHuUf9 has pages for many of the tools you mentioned. #edtechchat Google Drive, ipad, cell phones, Class Dojo, Remind, Tweetdeck, Chrome, Test drive a tech tool! Have a faculty Smackdown on tools & teaching techniques at a faculty meeting.
A1) Google Calendar that parents can access for due dates and links to "that which should not be named" (mouths screencasts) of study guides or info of upcoming assignments
#edtechchat
A0: #Scratch and #makeymakey together. They engage all ages, offer space for expression and plenty of room to grow. I love that in the end students have a physical and digital product to be proud of. #edtechchat
Yeah, #OER hardware is hard as it is a material good, hence there tends to be a cost. And sophisticated things like chip design tend to be strongly protected. #EdTechChat
A1 we use a school hash tag to keep parents and community stakeholders in the mix. We use @RemindHQ and @ClassDojo along with sharing info on #GoogleClassroom with parents daily. #edtechchat
A1 There isn't really a best tool for this. The question is, what will reach the intended audience, and that will have a different answer for each audience. N.Austin is saturated with high tech folks, so email, Twitter and Facebook are great. #EdTechChat

Such a good tool. Free access-- even though you barter privacy-- is so, so important for work school. Teach tools that everyone can access! #edtechchat
A2: BYOD has allowed for Ss to access to tools we don’t have to even know. Give Ss guiding questions & let research and figure out a tool to show you. #edtechchat
What type of communication - we broadcast announcements, news, and fun things for the school on the official feed. Most of us have our own frequency for other things #edtechchat
I like to think that social media is the attention grad for the longer conversation #edtechchat or sometimes the introduction to the person or the idea
A2: I love this graphic from the National Edtech Plan from the @OfficeofEdTech describing the difference between passive and active technology use! https://t.co/tou2Knxgw1
This year I connected with @POLKProfLearn and we adopted #PolkLearns for district sharing ... I have always used #JSARocks for my school related tweets ... important to tell our story #edtechchat

Anyone in the #NY#NJ#PA#CT area - I am looking to hire a Technology Integration Specialist - DM me for details - posting should happen soon - watch this space for updates! #edtechchat#catholicedchat#isedchat#njed
A2 SPRK+ @sphero#parrot Mumbo programmable drones. I like to make challenges, then when students meet my challenges, they have to challenge eachother. Also breakout room games! #breakoutedu#edtechchat
Mindset is the biggest battle to overcoming technology fears in class Take the time to reflect on your current mindset and approach technology with a positive and flexible attitude.

A3) You can't capture learning, it is done in the brain. What you can capture is what the students choose to show you, and the best tool is the one they pick. #justsayin' #edtechchat
Would love to know where that came from - tweeting at that rate is great if you are trying to market or advertise a program - a few times a day to share resources is great but not necessary #edtechchat
I agree! I wonder if @Google classroom has anything that can help us. Or something along the lines of creating a Wikipedia resource. Your Teacher Librarian may be good resource for this. #edtechchat

Effective? At what - teaching? Tweeting? Twitter is what you make it. There is no maximum or minimum number of tweets per day :) #edtechchat (Well, maybe there should be a maximum for some people...)
Marketing says you have to tweet often ... I tweet whenever the thought comes into my head or if my kids are doing something cool ... or I am sitting on the beach ... I don't have a rule ... i just tweet. #edtechchat
Get off the porch #GOTP and take healthy risks! In this case #edtech which can be a powerful resource to engage, students and help them learn. #edtechchat

People (even educators) are more interested in pushing whatever they r selling without engaging in conversation, that gets annoying. #edtechchat I love how @burgessdave@markbarnes19@alicekeeler will engage in conversation even with how busy they are ... not all about marketing

Blogging is still timeless. More emphasis should be put on short form writing and research articles in addition to traditional writing. I’ll be putting out a blog article this month on the power of @AdobeSpark Post for that. #edtechchat
For marketing purposes, lots of tweets can help, but only if your target population is on twitter. You need a broader branding program than just twitter to really advertise a program #edtechchat
What do you feel about the ever increasing transition from using real books to ebooks? Do you think children will transition out of libraries or will libraries transition into digital formats? #edtechchat
A4 Sky’s the limit. I like to let the students choose their own engine for sharing/presentation. Depending on the students, sometimes I give them a option of 5 or 6 choices and sometimes I let them have carte blanche (sp) #edtechchat
A4 Ss seem to really like #Sway and the #quickstart feature is pretty amazing. Click "start from a topic", type in a topic, and ta da! Your presentation is started! Plus, the Ss love that it looks like a website and can be shared. #edtechchat
Searching is Twitter's best-kept secrets. I can search: "@MollyMatchakEdu#Edtechchat" and click latest to see any association. Twitter-search matters bc edus can intentionally build their own archive with purposeful hashtags. I like hashtagging standards. #hashtag180#Edtechchat
a4: A good ole vlog. Maybe throw in a green screen to ensure that there's an entertaining aspect. Lately lots of unicorn backgrounds have been popping up. 🤣 #edtechchat
What do you think is the average attention span for your students while using edtech? Does it retain their attention more than other hands on activities? 🤔 #edtechchat
A3: Focus on tools that allow sharing of the learning..any tool to empower student voice and is in digital form so they can teach others what they are learning as well..video/audio/documentary/website..

This is a great question....I’m looking at ebooks as a cost cutting measure. Every year I spend X amount of dollars on consumable workbooks. I might have upfront costs for ebooks (devices)but in long run it might be as effective educationally and more cost effective. #EdTechChat
What do you feel about the ever increasing transition from using real books to ebooks? Do you think children will transition out of libraries or will libraries transition into digital formats? #edtechchat
Agreed. Our students are on video and podcasts outside the classroom, so let’s bring it into the classroom. But blogging most definitely still has a place. #edtechchat
A5 Have been interested in using VR/AR maybe a personal assistant like Alexa. Have been learning about it in graduate class. Really interested #edtechchat#edt5335
What is that number ... what if I have more than one class and kids want me to share? What is the annoying number ... 1 tweet per hour of the same blogpost link ... #edtechchat
Check out last week's #edtechchat transcript for reasons why you shouldn't use Alexa in the classroom (until they come up with a COPPA compliant version that allows schools to comply with FERPA) :) https://t.co/oBGfL9Ijfc#edtechchat
Workbooks can definitely be adapted to be online. It is the actual texts and reading that I struggle with. I want to use ebooks, but I love paper books as well #edtechchat
No Ross. You posting of you blog is timely and appropriate. Not just a random hashing of old posts every 3-5 minutes using 3 different hashtags. You are well within accepted behavior! #edtechchat

True! Could get really fun when integrating hashtags that you, your learners, school, district, or state departments have created. Would be esp effective if districts/states were using same hashtags for their standards. Could build a library of resources. #edtechchat#hashtag180
I guess it has to be on a case by case basis. We have to look at the big picture as well as the small details with the context of our situation in mind. #edtechchat
@TechCoachAdam - Blogging can be so integral for student reflection and sharing learning. The problem is the focus on the blog and a failure to emphasis the learning. #edtechchat

BC has one of the more stringent laws on privacy. No content that incl private student info can be in US servers. This cuts down what we have access to use. Our blogs are selfhosted on Canadian servers #edTechChat
