Sarah Young, Digital Teaching and Learning Coordinator at USBE. I LOVE apple pear sauce. A reject from my son’s 3rd grade lunch box. I’m now addicted. #utedchat
#a1- My definition of blended learning- is learning that comes directly from a computer and learning that comes directly from a teacher. The computer could be in a school setting or a home/other setting #Utedchat
A1: When I think of blended learning, I think of face-to-face classrooms integrated with technology. Using lectures, hands on activities, videos, computer simulations. etc.#utedchat
A1: A blended approach to teaching and learning—teachers as decision makers knowing when and how to leverage online learning to isolate and address student learning needs. Use data from online learning to inform decision making for face to face instruction. #utedchat
A1: I think blended learning takes the best pieces of the traditional classroom, online education, and digital media and blends them into one! #utedchat
No way, JFaws! Keep what you’re great at! And... If you’re great at direct instruction you should make videos and share them with other teachers. #utedchat
I think it's easy to get caught up in tech that we are just substituting technology and not elevating the learning experience. Some things work fine with a pencil and paper. #utedchat
A1: actually, I think it's important to use blended opportunities to empower Ss to take control of their own learning - with structures in place for success. #utedchat
A2: Blended learning can incorporate learning anywhere, any time. Technology Integration is all about using technology in the classroom in ways that lead to deeper learning opportunities for students. #utedchat
A2: Technology integration doesn’t necessarily mean a change in educational practice—nor does it necessarily have an impact on learning. Blended learning focuses on the learning. What are students learning as a result of the tech? #utedchat
A2: Blended learning can incorporate learning anywhere, any time. Technology Integration is all about using technology in the classroom in ways that lead to deeper learning opportunities for students. #utedchat
A2: just because you’re using technology in the classroom doesn’t make it authentic blended learning. Scanning a worksheet doesn’t make the worksheet any better. Blending learning goes so much deeper and expands student understanding #utedchat
A2 - Technology integration means using technology effectively, efficiently and in an engaging way. Blended is about the pedagogy, just turns out tech helps facilitate it. #utedchat
This is a key point I talk to my Ss about. They have the power to seek more information on topics they are struggling with. I wish I had the internet when I was in school. #utedchat
A2: Blended learning can incorporate learning anywhere, any time. Technology Integration is all about using technology in the classroom in ways that lead to deeper learning opportunities for students. #utedchat
A2 Blended leaning utilizes both direct inst & tech to personalize learning for greater student outcomes. For many teachers it's more about a focus on personalization than tech. #utedchat
A2: I think, too, blended learning can allow for students to come up with a variety of solutions to show concept mastery - tech powered or not - inside the walls of a classroom or not. #utedchat
A2: Technology integration is just that, tossing tech into a classroom. Blending that technology is incorporating it into our lessons to enhance student learning. #utedchat
I think effective technology integration is also about pedagogy. Using tech in a purposeful way to offer deeper learning opportunities for students in the classroom. #UTedChat
Q2: This sounds kind of technical. I dunno. I guess technology integration is what I do with tech in the classroom and blended would take part of that out of the classroom. But my students are resistant to any and all outside work! #utedchat
A3: Fears - Having time to do it well, losing control or ownership, how to gage the effectiveness, how to make it flexible, student accountability. #utedchat.
A3: my biggest fear was letting go of “control” and trusting that my students could stay on task. I had to trust that they could be responsible, and for the most part, they were. #utedchat
The first time my son (in Kindergarten at the time) encouraged me to “ask the woman on my phone” for a response to his question, it blew my mind. #Utedchat

A3 My biggest fear is that the digital divide has the potential to widen the gap between the haves and the have nots. More imp than ever to have educational equity #utedchat
A3: My fears are parental support. I've had parents pull students from my class because I was too "techy." Also, having the hardware to support what I want to do. To prepare... have good communication with parents and be flexible with tech issues #utedchat
Derek from @sedck12 & @UCET checking in a bit late tonight. I've just finished a 40-hour week in 3 days & I still have 3 major events before I'm done this week! Stoked to be here for #UTedChat tonight!
A3. #utedchat Fear that my instruction will be as effective as directive instruction. It has been a learning curve and sometimes a walk into new territory.
Q3: Things I lose sleep over in no particular order: Asking great nongoogleable questions, designing courses well in an LMS to guide learning, equal access to tools and internet connectivity, consistency vs new shiny tech tools. #utedchat
True, but that implies the learning results in future success. Or at least less failure. I don't have the time to do what I know how to do, and I don't know how to do half of what I need to do. It gets frustrating. But I'm here, so clearly I haven't given up. #utedchat
A4: I’m obsessed with @Flipgrid right now. Trained all my teachers on it yesterday and now #FlipgridFever is spreading through our building like wildfire! #utedchat
A4: I have the CANVAS LMS and Chromebook carts. My District also uses SchoolCity for Benchmarks. I use them all because the district requires it. I love the powerful things I can do in CANVAS, so I am an advocate for it with my teachers. Students don't love it though. #utedchat
A1 I see #BlendedLearning as a mix of the best of Face2Face learning with the convenience of online learning all mixed together for an awesome educational martini! #UTedChat#ShakenNotStirred#F2F
At Dry Creek Elementary, nutrition manager and staff, know how to serve lunch with love and kindness. Thanks for making lunch so meaningful. #ASDgameChangers#uted
I use Google collaboration tools as well, but not much in my classrooms because of CANVAS limitations or my limited knowledge... My students to use Google slides and docs though - to create and submit. Come to think of it, they also use Animoto. That's fun. #utedchat
A4: I favor interactive, inquiry based, simple and proven tools. I used to try out everything - now I've gotten better at asking "is this what I need , or am I distracted by it's luster?" #utedchat
I just mentioned that in my response! Great to hear that you have seen great impact with @flipgrid! I’ve seen it used with adults during twitter chats too. Maybe we should do a #utedchat@flipgrid??!!

A4: Utah’s Online Library is kind of my everything ❤️, canvas is my LMS, Adobe Spark for quick, beautiful creations from students, Twitter for having students reflect, quizizz for formative assessment. #utedchat
Follow #flipgridfever for ideas and inspiration. And come see me in the playground at @ucet in March if you’re there. I’ll be sharing the awesomeness of @Flipgrid there! Students at my school are loving it! #utedchat

A2 I see Tech Integration as more of pulling tech into a single lesson and #BlendedLearning as a complete mix of the tech with the traditional teaching. It's the difference in a #Blizzard & a #Milkshake or #Frosty! #UTedChat
Oh! I use the CUlturegrams on the UEN Pioneer Library. Those are really good. And I played with Nearpod once (but don't quite get it yet). I want to learn Google classroom next. That, and VR integration - just signed up for a VR class in March! #utedchat
Q4: I use Google Classrooms and tools, @khanacademy@ProdigyGame@GetKahoot@quizlet@quizizz. I'm always on the hunt for things to engage my kids. They end up driving what we use. What works for one group, doesn't always work for another. #utedchat
Q5 What benefits would you expect to experience by adopting a blended learning model? How might it positively impact your teaching and/or your students learning? #utedchat
#utedchat I use quizlet and kahoot but mostly use my chromebooks for research. I even invent assignments I guess where I had my Geography students look at maps on the Internet and classify I them. And hello there!
A4. I have used Nearpod, Utah online library, connected, and I like connected ed, and think central. Students can complete assignments any where on think central and connected ed. #utedchat
#utedchat I'm also going to investigate this https://t.co/iimgkqPEMd website a bit more. They have lessons and games and such, I've done a couple of nearpod lessons.
A5: I like to think that it’s a more authentic style of learning. When people go to learn something in the “real world” they watch a video, ask their friends, read something, ask an expert, etc. We can help facilitate these experience for students. #utedchat
A3 My biggest fear with #BlendedLearning is that parents & students will push back and NOT fully participate. It's an awesome approach, but not EVERYTHING need to be Blended. Sometimes I want to chew my chocolate and sometimes I want to drink it. #UTedChat
Excellent point! Maybe we do it as a slow chat where we launch it during the #utedchat but spend a week engaging with each other’s responses? When we aren’t in our pajamas. 😉 #utedchat
A5: I'd expect to see improvements in opportunities for top Ss to extend their reach, struggling students to find success, and a place for all to understand the arc of the class. #utedchat.
Q5: There are so may benefits to adopting a blended learning model. Ss will get more instruction and practice and they can get that instruction in a variety of ways. Simulations. @Desmos has some great things and @geogebra.
#utedchat
Q6 What is your next step for blended teaching and learning? Do you feel you need more training on the different blended models and frameworks? More access for students? Support from administration? More knowledge of digital tools and resources? Other? #utedchat
A5: I mentioned this earlier but blended learning offers students a chance to learn in an authentic way: outside of the classroom. A great intro to how they will learn as adults. #UTedChat
One thing I like about the SAMR framework is it gets all the heart of blended learning. I messed with Sway earlier and made this quick example of how technology can redefine learning https://t.co/LnRsRVZpoN#utedchat
A5: TIME!! The constant plea in education is the need for more time to effectively meet students’ learning needs. When implemented well, #BlendedLearning gives teachers time to do what their heart longs to do—differentiate. #utedchat
A5 I think #BlendedLearning allows for more students to fully engage with the course content in a manner that makes the most sense for them. It's all about getting through to the students! #UTedChat
I'm actually not too nervous! I've been to #UCET before so I know how amazing the people are! (I'm sure I'll get nervous as March gets closer...) #UTedChat

You will feel nervous, but you'll do amazing. And then once you finish you'll (probably) decide you loved it and won't be able to wait to do it again! #UTedChat#UCET18

A5: I hope it would be more authentic learning - learning skills, not just content, that would transfer not just to civic life, but life in general as students become media and information savvy adults. Simply because it would be engaging them where they are. #utedchat
Q5 What benefits would you expect to experience by adopting a blended learning model? How might it positively impact your teaching and/or your students learning? #utedchat
I've found success by being vulnerable and taking risks myself - also, spent a lot of time investing in the relationships/trust aspect... sometimes it boils down to unawareness and giving teachers the TIME to really explore and learn... #utedchat
A6: My next step for blended learning is to have the tech to implement my vision. With only 20 iPads for our entire dept and limited labs, it's a struggle. Hoping to work with Admin to make my dream a reality. or I've got to find some grants. #utedchat
A6: Well, I signed up for that VR class because I really, really want to incorporate some of this to bring history to life in my classroom. But beyond training, what I really need is the time to implement what I've learned. That's hard to come by. #utedchat
Q6 What is your next step for blended teaching and learning? Do you feel you need more training on the different blended models and frameworks? More access for students? Support from administration? More knowledge of digital tools and resources? Other? #utedchat
A5 I remember talking with @downrightdave about how he was doing a #FlippedClassroom model for his math lessons and how jealous I was that he had the time to commit to that. #BlendedLearning can be positive for both student AND teacher when done correctly! #UTedChat
Thanks for everyone's participation @ucet is coming soon get registered if you haven't already. Shameless plug there may be a session on Blended learning as well. #utedchat
I'm really popular in the Philippines and India. Actually, 146 different countries have watched my videos, sometimes even my students watch them. #utedchat
