# it was the lure of in the moment planning discussion!
-
I'm hoping for a good discussion too. Such a topical issue for EYFS practitioners
-
Hello everyone! I made it this week! Yay I also have good news I am now officially house hunting after seeking my flat! Whoo
-
-
giving it go ( 2nd time trying) , but still find it tricky to get 'extended' bits of writing
-
Hi Lyndsey, that's fantastic news.do you have any viewings in the pipeline?
-
hi all, first time on here.
-
Good evening, glad you could make it
-
I think that's something to bring up during the discussion. When you say extended what do you mean?
-
Good evening all- poorly so may have to leave to sleep but here for now 😷 hope you all well?
-
Welcome, glad you could join us. We start with welcomes & then we'll get started with discussion.
-
Whereabouts (roughly) are you?
-
Oh poor you Nic, Hang in for as long as you can but you must look after yourself
-
just meaningful 'sentences' from the more able . Still feel I need to ' teach ' sometimes.
-
'teaching' is a hard habit to break...
-
Hey sounds exciting I love house hunting it's moving that's the horrid bit :)
-
yes very excited we're looking at a new build property at the moment we'll find out by end of week if it's doable
-
Would be interested in hearing about your experiences in a busy area. Remember to add so everyone can see.
-
Lets make a start. Planning in the moment - what does it mean to you? Discuss
-
totally agree dreading packing!
-
to me it's all about flexibility!
-
it's a large nursery school. 180 ch age 3-5 and 65 age 2. So very busy nursery & area!
-
I agree. Being able to do whatever whenever, look at frost/ice, shadows etc without timetable constraints
-
and being able to quickly make changes or new plans if something isn't working
-
not planning too far ahead . No rigid themes. Focus chn.
-
WOW! I imagine many languages & cultures too?
-
I think to me it means being able to respond on the spot-not always possibly but having flexibility is always good
-
I think to me it means being able to respond on the spot-not always possibly but having flexibility is always good
-
child is at centre , not activities
-
Yes, I always want to take the chn on by adding resources when I see an opportunity.
-
to support learning immediately allowing the child to lead? We want to plan this way & just learning
-
Should we plan activities to lead them into something though?
-
-
We have been in our new build a year now and love it
-
I do think that we need to plan. It's just important not to be too precious over plans!
-
this is key understanding when it's not working and stopping or changing
-
Yes we do. Really fabulous mix of families. Great area & place to work.
-
Exactly that, The chn really took that activity forward and led their own learning, We should be there to support
-
oooo that's great to hear who's your builder?
-
Some people feel like they have to try to make a plan work. Or that it's their fault when it doesn't
-
Observing, listening and noting children's interests. Then digging out those random resources to light the spark
-
-
Good observation is so important. We can do some really naff observations sometimes
-
exactly I think it's a skilled practitioner who knows when to stop its all about reading the children
-
-
Novice tweeter alert! Very interested in the thread
-
-
Welcome Ruth, good to have you here. Just jump in when you can & remember to add so everyone can see
-
clarity in observations. It's hard sometimes!
-
-
Think yes we do especially when your assessments show gaps in learning- I love provocations
-
Yes, do we have an aim in mind or just looking for those WOW moments
-
Yes. Also an appropriate range of resources for children to access enabling them to extend
-
Yes, the hook that draws them in
-
So a good environment is key for planning in the moment?
-
I think you need to have an aim in mind in order to scaffold and support
-
-
focused observations can be hard sometimes. I love just sitting back and listening to the children's play chatter though
-
Exactly. We were talking about hooks in training last week! love exciting provocations too.
-
we do this thu focus child
-
So how much planning should we be doing?
-
yes I think so as that provides the possible experiences where questions can start
-
good environment helps with any planning! However a skilled eyp can inspire learning wherever
-
Agree but then each child has strengths & areas they need to develop so our provision should be enhanced accordingly I feel :)
-
less ! I was finding OLP hard work !
-
Yes. We have large open spaces, lots of natural resources. Long free flow sessions.
-
Oh yes, I hear you! Once again I need to rethink my paperwork
-
Our team did personalised planning with more here and now and key person based. Less paperwork, more action.
-
So, how do you inspire other staff to follow the child more rather than lead?
-
I think it's good to plan once a week to bring all the ideas together.
-
-
Also more emphasis on knowing your key children.
-
You'll soon be frantically typing like the rest of us haha!
-
Welcome, glad to have you here. Jump in when you can & just remember to add so we can all see and reply
-
ask them to step back and listen don't ask to many questions just be there and build up to ask open questions
-
-
I am stuck at mo with mixed age & finding the way forward with planning in the moment for EY's
-
-
Trying to get TA to do just that!
-
Tried that but don't think they read it!
-
Letting the children see you are flexible and willing to go with them is very powerful- they amaze you every time
-
So, we all seem to want this planning in the moment joy. How do you sell it to the SLT?
-
it can be hard working out how to plan we were evaluating our planning tonight at meeting its hard to know every 1/2
-
-
every child is getting same form of experience and saying yes they definitely understand that! 2/2
-
Has anyone been through ofsted with in the moment?
-
Good question. Welcome Katy, good to have you here
-
I completely agree it lets them build up trust with you as you are showing you are actively listening!
-
inthe moment allows a little more time to get environment right .and this is so so so so important
-
Environment can be many things, Do you do a usage audit to see what the chn are using?
-
we are due & I just started
-
Ooh, keeps us uptodate Peter, let us know what happens
-
We do an audit fairly regularly
-
yrs also do gap/strength analysis that abc talks of
-
-
I think it is about letting go and trusting the children to lead the learning.
-
do you mean for the audit?
-
-
Unfortunately this was not the way I was trained and mentored!
-
Agree totally, it's hard for adults to do that, especially in reception with targets to meet
-
-
just got the sstew adult engagement book. Heard Iram Siraj speak & going to use to develop adult role.
-
To be honest we just have a sheet for each area & discuss how being used etc. Decide if changes are needed
-
Has anyone used ECERS as a self evaluation tool? Or the Leuven scales?
-
-
keep it simpleput g or b on a grid every 10 mins who in what area showing boys/girls.Any other ideas?
-
-
Targets Targets Tragets Everywhere for our children!!
-
Must admit we use this and we do plan LOADS
-
Leuven, as part of the Early Excellence baseline in reception. Will continue to use
-
have looked at these . Need to get my arse in gear !
-
-
Would have thought that sounded like loads more work- can you explain a bit more please? :)
-
-
This is my on-going challenge!!!! Trying to get out of the 'drag you to my task' thinking so hard with some
-
-
That's the project Peer obs are so good
-
-
No problems- all about sharing on and there are some great ideas on here :)
-
I know! Dragged away from their intense play/activity to do what we want them to do
-
What can we do this week to work towards planning in the moment?
-
-
I found that even when I went to them with my OLP sheet I was 'twisting' their play to meet my needs
-
-
I am reading the book & looking at filled in examples ready to discuss with teams at work.
-
Our plans not theirs. I think my challenge this week is to step back, watch and listen.
-
Not recently- great question :)
You really need to hope you have a good EYFS inspector too!
-
I need to do a 'usage' audit and get staff on board.
-
How does in the moment planning work with Y1 in a mixed age class?
-
what's next week ? Will try and tune in!
-
Sorry having some technical difficulties! do you just dive right in and give it a go?
-
-
Little one keeps him busy!
-
I agree totally that the environment has to be right it is the second practitioner in learning.
-
The children could do an excellent audit!!
-
I need to get going - got work to do before I fall asleep! Thanks for the chat everyone.
-
I feel like that a lot actually!
-
Do you mean the planning in the moment bit? I think so, just go for it
-
Also helps having an SLT who 'gets it!'
-
Technical issues are a pain, hope you get it sorted
-
All key people write a couple of ideas for the week based on their key children. Audit their progress, know them, then use info
-
-
Thanks for joining us. Have a great week
-
Yes in the moment planning! Let go and dive in!
-
Have to know the children really well
-
-
Would be great to hear how everyone gets on
-
Thanks Nic, I must save that as a favourite
-
That's the beauty of a !!
-
Welcome I missed this in my feed- sorry don't forget to add
-
Well, that chat has gone fast. Thank you to everyone for joining us. Lots of food for though
