Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.
Good morning to this awesome crew. Can you believe it has been one year since the release of #LeadLAP? Thanks for celebrating with us today. Let's get this party started!
Good morning to this awesome crew. Can you believe it has been one year since the release of #LeadLAP? Thanks for celebrating with us today. Let's get this party started!
Good morning #LeadLAP and @BethHouf@burgess_shelley and Happy Birthday to #LeadLAP ! Thank you for being such an amazing and supportive community of leaders and learners. I quickly painted a snow bank for you all #tlap
A1: "Relationships first, relationships always." I know this is true, but I have been more intentional with students. Trying to find the WHY behind the action and not just a consequence. #LeadLAP
WOW! This party is on fire already! CHAT TIP...if you struggle to keep up like me..open two columns on tweetdeck for #LeadLAP. Interact in one and let the other scroll.
.@burgess_shelley thanks for your wonderful presentation to @welv_va - women educational leaders from every area of the state - teachers, school admins, central staff and superintendents #LeadLAP#acps
Good morning and congratulations to @BethHouf and @burgess_shelley on your one year anniversary! Checking in from Surrey, BC...I teach Gr 7 Late French Immersion. #leadlap
"Trust is the oxygen of our school systems." So many to choose from but...I do love this one. #LeadLAP@bethhouf@burgess_shelley dropped knowledge in this book. #tlap
A1: I have a bunch - "Culture First, Culture Next, Culture Always!" This resonates because it is always on the top of the list for making our schools a place you can run into, instead of out #LeadLAP
A1 Itโs not so much a quote as it is the ANCHOR acronym! Completed opened my eyes for a new framework for coaching and feedback conversations. Much better approach now. #LeadLAP
Love our team of women leaders in #acps with former Va supt for Public Instruction Steve Staples @welv_va#leadlap always looking for leaders who want to work in one of the most innovative school systems in the US! Let @psubear@AlbemarleHr know
Yes I really liked this one too. And I think the trust comes from the relationship building too. Its amazing how fast the trust can leave and how long it takes to build. #LeadLAP
In reply to
@burgessdave, @BethHouf, @burgess_shelley
A1: There are a bunch but I think my work this year has been focussed on... We want to create schools where students, staff, and parents are beating down the doors to get in... Not out! #leadlap
So...this is absolutely one of my favorites!! I especially like the use of the word influence. It leads to actions taken by others who see the WHY in our leadership. Love it!! #LeadLAP
Since reading the book and hearing @BethHouf speak at #METC18, the words I think about when decisions need made are: Culture First, Culture Next, Culture Always. #leadlap
A1: So many points from #LeadLAP that Iโve learned from. I love the notes of appreciation. Also, collaboration is key. Allow teachers and students to have a voice in creation. People will be less likely to tear something down that they helped build.
A1: I especially love the piece about people being less likely to tear down something they've helped build. Nothing more powerful than giving stakeholders ownership and inviting them in to shared leadership to nurture efficacy and showcase passion. #leadlap
A1: As leaders our ability to to โdo whatโs best for kidsโ often lies within our ability to inspire, influence, and support the adults within our system. #LeadLAP
A1: I especially love the piece about people being less likely to tear down something they've helped build. Nothing more powerful than giving stakeholders ownership and inviting them in to shared leadership to nurture efficacy and showcase passion. #leadlap
Good morning and happy birthday #LeadLAP ! Nili Bartley from MA A1) So many amazing quotes but this one stands out A LOT โHope on its own doesnโt create change. Action does.โ This line fuels me every day.
This one is so important. I struggle to find the time to start something new. I know its good for kids, but don't want to overwhelm people! Not everyone is as excited as I am! #LeadLAP
And support can look so very different depending on what the adults in the building need. Lead with empathy, courage, integrity, creativity and equality/equity. #LeadLAP
A2: Give them choices...lots of them. Be running towards the same goal. Engagement and excitement but most of all LOVE for all the kids makes them want to come back. #LeadLAP
A1: This is mine too! You beat me to it. System building is a highly underrated aspect of what we do. Letโs a build systems that allow all members to thrive together! #LeadLAP
A1: โDon't be afraid to put yourself out there. Share who you are, what you're passionate about, & how it motivates you to lead." #LeadLAP
This quote has greatly influenced me over the last year to tweet, blog, share & put myself out there. @BethHouf@burgess_shelley
A1: SO many to choose from!! 1-"When you intentionally & regularly create that kind of enthusiasm, the net result is a school where kids want to come to learn and grow. And that's when you really change lives." Our P has done so many things to create this for Ss & Ts! #leadLAP
A2 we listen to each other, collaborate and share not just with a staff but with students. We promote risk taking and male kindness a priority. #Leadlap
A2 build trust with them. Take an interest in them, ask them how they are, they can tell if youโre genuine or not, and if they see you are it will make all the difference. #LeadLAP
A2: Less email and more face to face conversations. Making sure you never take yourself as a title over a person and aiming to serve. I said earlier this week that doing opens doors but serving moves mountains. #LeadLAP
A2: Truly caring for everyone in the building. As a leader you have to lead by example. Be vulnerable and show the students and staff you care on a daily basis. And not just some people, ALL of them. #LeadLAP
A2: Service-learning projects like our Knitting Club. Kids helping kids is such a beautiful thing; nurturing their servant hearts keeps them coming back because #kindness is contagious! #kindnessmatters#leadlap
Choosing a favorite quote is like choosing a favorite kid. It's a mindset change and it's contagious. As a leader it forces you to shift your focus to both sides of the coin. #LeadLAP
A1: This is what I strive to do in my classroom. I donโt want to just make good students, I want them to become the leaders, teachers, creators, and drivers of the class. @burgessdave#LeadLAP#satchat#edchat#students
High School Asst. Principal signing in from Lynchburg, VA. Thank you @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf for giving us a book that inspires us to be GREAT leaders by providing specific strategies to do โwhatever it takes!โ Happy Birthday, #LeadLAP !
A2: Collaboration and listening to staff.. We just did a fun team building competition & staff had to come up with ways to improve the school... Worked w/ our Faculty Senate to already implement two ideas with more to come... Showing that you value feedback is important! #leadlap
A2 people move to or away from relationships - and relationships are grounded in connections that are authentic, meaningful, personally caring and empathetic - build communities of care and kids will thrive and come back #LeadLAP
A1b: One that's helped me as a Schl Psy is when you discussed prioritizing tasks to focus most of your time on those that promote S learning. This just helped me yesterday. Two issues, at same time, had to delegate 1, I took the 1 that focused most on S learning. Thx! #leadLAP
A2: Engagement for all. We need to create an environment where both teachers and students are empowered to be creative through engagement and collaboration. #LeadLAP
This has also helped me. I just started a blog and was really vulnerable. The feedback I got was so amazing and encouraging. (I was super scared before). #LeadLAP
Changing the conversation means being honest about what's been done and said, not covering, if you have balls to do it, balls up and say you did it. #LeadLap
A2 Modeling fun/silliness. I wrote & performed a parody of โShake it offโ at a #PBIS assembly. Yesterdayโs AM announcements HAD to start with an Irish brogue (accent). Make people smile & jump in. #LeadLAP
A2 - Craig from PA - Love these words - Energy, Enthusiasm, Engagement and Empowerment. They all stress positive habits that influence all of us. #LeadLAP
A2: Be vulnerable, do what you say youโre going to do, solicit feedback, use the feedback to make meaningful change, never expect others to do things you are unwilling to do. #LeadLAP
A2: I try to make it a place that supports & celebrate others by creating a family culture w/ Ts & Ss! I look for ways to make learning fun for all!! #LeadLAP
A2 We work to build relationships with our students. Identifying kids that might have fallen through the cracks and cultivating positive interactions with them. #WMSTigerPD#leadlap
A2: Projects, inquiry, stories, and things they can get their hands (and minds) wrapped around. Music and art are essential-every day and often. Tell stories, sing songs, and play games @BethHouf#leadlap
A2: We intentionally & regularly create the kind of enthusiasm where kids want to come to school to learn & grow. Passion is the moth to the flame. We are passionate about kids, our staff, our school & community. #LEADlap
A2: Engagement for all. We need to create an environment where both teachers and students are empowered to be creative through engagement and collaboration. #LeadLAP
A2: Building relationships...Spending time in conversation and learning what others are passionate about and encouraging them to share it (students, staff and parents) #LEADlap
A2) I never leave enthusiasm at home and Iโm not afraid to use it even when I appear out of the ordinary:) always promoting hype and a culture of sharing-every moment is worth it. #LeadLAP
A2 make sure kids donโt have to check their questions, curiosity, creativity, connectedness, interests as they enter your school doors every day - when they bring all this with them thru the doors into their learning, they keep coming back #LeadLAP
Actually, I haven't read the book, BUT I have followed the authors and met Beth Houf. Maybe I'm living the book following everyone, seeing the results, following the lead on this PLN. I've worked harder with Ss and Ts than ever. #LEADlap
A2: We've made "Have fun and don't take yourself too seriously" one of our building collective commitments. Then we have Ss vote on staff member who best exemplifies it. Love that we have so many for Ss to choose from! Ss now look for that in their Ts. Helps our culture! #LeadLAP
Wow! What a beautiful picture. It's amazing how invested kids get when they see the power of their work - and the results in someone else's life! #leadlap
A2 this month students had the option to create a theme based board game. The choice and creativity were deeply engaging. There is a Containing Communist Zombies board game and these are a card game for Arms Race game #LEADlap
"serving moves mountains"--words to ponder from today's #LeadLAP conversation! Reminds me of Lincoln. One of my takeaways is what we can learn from Lincoln's intentional decision to "circulate among the troops" during the Civil War. He did not lead from his office. #leadership
A2: Less email and more face to face conversations. Making sure you never take yourself as a title over a person and aiming to serve. I said earlier this week that doing opens doors but serving moves mountains. #LeadLAP
A2- I start by greeting the students with hugs and high fives and music in the morning while I help them out of their cars. Then itโs about the conversations and meaningful learning inside the building. #LeadLAP
Follow through and doing โdirty workโ goes a long way when building relationships. Sometimes teachers & kids need a break from each other. I draw in to where thereโs a need for relief #LeadLAP
A2: Be vulnerable, do what you say youโre going to do, solicit feedback, use the feedback to make meaningful change, never expect others to do things you are unwilling to do. #LeadLAP
A2b: Creating space for students to be creative & celebrating achievements w/ students that meet them where they are & push them to that next level. I will drop anything to celebrate a student who has made any kind of gain to make them feel they can always be successful! #leadlap
A2: We have staff-led/staff-chosen PLCs and offer choice, #edcamp style PDs when possible. Staff feels PD is more for them and their needs, and are more excited about attending now! #leadlap
A3: Last month I made these #mindfulness balloons for our faculty and staff and distributed them along with a 15-minute break. The gift of time is huge so that we can breathe and unwrap the present. #leadlap
A3: @ryanssiemens (my principal) and I created awards for each staff member. We personally delivered them to the staff. We saw a lot of smiles that day and laughs too! (yes I was inspired by @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf)
So many are hanging up! #LeadLAP
Choice in PD has done a lot to create more energy around our efforts at school too! Teachers look forward to seeing what choices they will have at our meetings now! #LeadLAP
A2: We have staff-led/staff-chosen PLCs and offer choice, #edcamp style PDs when possible. Staff feels PD is more for them and their needs, and are more excited about attending now! #leadlap
We use Google Forms for the voting, and there's a spot for comments. Any staff who gets comments from Ss, even if they aren't the winner, get's a printout of the comments. Coolness! #LeadLAP And, the prizes are silly. Not serious at all. :)
Thanks - I love watching Ts build connections with kids that keep them coming back to school @DickersonChance is an amazing example of Ts everywhere who do that #LEADlap
A3 new teachers to our profession and especially those I recruited ... I send a monthly treat/quote to remind them their local state and national union brothers/sisters are here to support, listen to them @nsea_org@OmahaOEA#LeadLAP
Thanks. Here's our video if you want to see these knitters in action. The children in this clip are seniors in HS this year; I'm told a few of them STILL knit!! https://t.co/Me5ntUkm91#leadlap
A3 Sharing our gratitude for those that help us with resources etc., like Media Literacy/Librarian who often find books especially for us ๐ #LeadLAP
A2: Morning greetings mean more than we realize. Our pirate leader @diane_mackinnon has arranged morning dance parties to welcome our Ss, & she's always present in the a.m. to greet our Ss. SO important to have ppl look each S in the eye & smile/say hello to them! #leadLAP
A3: This week we took pictures of every staff member in a superhero pose. We had everyone on staff write to the prompt โyou are a superhero becauseโ for everyone on staff and attached that under the superhero picture. Reminder that you are all appreciated. #leadlap
A2: collaborative projects regularly, focus on reflection with kids and adults, dance party lunch Friday's, monthly community events, and staff fun runs on Thursdays! #LeadLAP
A3: Inspire? You will have to ask them, but I will say that I try to let those around me know that the only thing I care about is helping others get better everyday and that I appreciate how they feel even if I donโt agree with them. #LeadLAP
Q2: I go against the grain. I belted out Whitney Houston 8th hour. I share my life with my kids and coworkers, congratulate others, admit when I am wrong, and I WORK my butt off! Most of all I believe in promoting #LEADlap
A3: A week long competition called "The Contest" that put staff on teams & had them complete challenges each day. It was supposed to build into a fun PD for the staff but snow got in the way. Holding off until May for the finale! It was amazing the energy it created! #LeadLAP
A3: This week we took pictures of every staff member in a superhero pose. We had everyone on staff write to the prompt โyou are a superhero becauseโ for everyone on staff and attached that under the superhero picture. Reminder that you are all appreciated. #leadlap
A3 encouraging teachers and students to take risks and supporting them at all times, telling them they are appreciated and letting others know how great they are. #Leadlap
A3 - Staff yearbook page thatโs dedicated to seniors. Each teacher picks one word to share with kids as they move in. Quote in the middle: โEveryday is a chance to inspire another person to accept greatness.โ #leadlap
A3) Big promoter of Ts leading Ts and having a blast while learning - love offering Edcamp style PD and honoring teachersโ voices. Even better when itโs PIRATE themed๐โ ๏ธ #leadlap
A3: made a huge effort to connect with VPs this year not just principals to coach them upโthey work so hard with little recognition. Using Voxer and in-person to build them up #leadlap
Iโm the AP of Student Services at my site and we go all out for birthdays in my department with cake, lunch, decorations and gifts. To celebrate the end of registration, Iโm providing lunch and recognizing the counselors hard work during this season. #leadlap
A3: Surprise #ThankfulThursday! Order treats/snacks, create small appreciation/notes cards, and send a surprise email out to staff to come to the office. Once there, they write a note of appreciation to someone and pick up something to eat! Great way to spread the love! #leadlap
Love the use of the word relentless. Be patiently persistent in building capacity. See the good and see the need. Act in a way that you help others find their greatness and magnify it. Magnify strengths and mitigate weaknesses. #LeadLAP
A3: This week we took pictures of every staff member in a superhero pose. We had everyone on staff write to the prompt โyou are a superhero becauseโ for everyone on staff and attached that under the superhero picture. Reminder that you are all appreciated. #leadlap
A3 it's a little thing, but when subs are in our building I make sure and stop by to thank them for being in our buildiing, because we all know there are easier jobs than being a substitute! #leadlap
A3(2): We have a โking of the momentโ chess piece we pass from member to member at collaborations to celebrate โpersonalโ victories. Individual achievements matter as well as group achievements. #LeadLAP
A3: Besides playing "idea" role in my A2, have helped push our PD days to offer more choice and voice, including a modified #edcamp style day. We do themes and have fun w/staff. I also treat the staff before Christmas break to a coffee bar morning. Barista friend helps! #LeadLAP
A3: I've had the privilege of assisting my amazing colleague @MsBabish with the organization of @edcampPGH Can't wait to connect, share, and learn with everyone next week! #edcamppgh#LeadLAP
A3: I have done email shoutouts to Ts and cc'd our principal. I have also texted colleagues or been recipient of such texts..or even tweets. It means a lot to give & to receive them. It warms my heart! #leadLAP
A3: We have a Stationery Station in our mailroom that we use to leave encouraging notes for Ts! I love treating my team to their favorite Sonic drinks in the morning!! We also use the golden # to recognize each other! #LeadLAP
A3: for the holidays got everyone a zip up fleece with the logo since our building is old and cold! Also split staff into groups and we breakfast together twice per month. And a shout out section in my weekly staff newsletter. And on announcements at each morning #LeadLAP
Q3: When we had a snow break. I asked Ts and staff for photos of them and their families out in the snow. I made a video to post in the lobby. We should share ourselves with our kids. #LEADlap
A3: Iโm not good at โattaboysโ but I tried a #thankyouteachers this year and I am hopeful it was well received. Need some growth in this area for sure. #LeadLAP
A1: I have a bunch - "Culture First, Culture Next, Culture Always!" This resonates because it is always on the top of the list for making our schools a place you can run into, instead of out #LeadLAP
A1: I have a bunch - "Culture First, Culture Next, Culture Always!" This resonates because it is always on the top of the list for making our schools a place you can run into, instead of out #LeadLAP
A3. Intentional recognition- notes of appreciation for work that is often unrecognized! Iโve seen some of those notes I left show up on Ts bulletin boards as a yearlong encouragement! #LeadLAP
A3b: Hot chocolate delivered to classrooms during a cold spell, tailgate party during lunch, weekly "McAuliffe Shoutouts" & "Around the McAuliffe" pictures in weekly newsletter... Want to do a Woot Woot wagon & Praise While You Print after seeing @BethHouf at #MALeads18#leadlap
A3: This week we took pictures of every staff member in a superhero pose. We had everyone on staff write to the prompt โyou are a superhero becauseโ for everyone on staff and attached that under the superhero picture. Reminder that you are all appreciated. #leadlap
A4 we turned sitting in the hall, waiting for school into using that time for fun. Whiteboard art/riddles, Lego walls, board games, and puzzles. #leadlap
A3- This week our rock star social worker started a Wellness Wednesday initiative... it was filled with rejuvenating strategies and activities... very well received! #LeadLAP
A4 I recently started sketchnoting in class. The students hated taking regular notes. Now they enjoy it. They think of it as drawing not note taking. #LeadLAP
A3. For my 9 Tchrs & 9 paras, I sent an email on Valentineโs Day telling them how much I appreciated them & how I could not do my job w/o them. I then told them to come to my office for a special Valentineโs treat. Itโs on a much smaller scale, but they really loved it! #LeadLAP
A4: moving our admin meetings from nuts/bolts and sit-n-get to active learning with the attempt to model what staff meetings can/should look like #leadlap
A3b: One HUGE inspiration this year was my principal's @diane_mackinnon Twitter Challenge. Another HUGE inspiration has been our Breakfast Club Book Study! Right now, we're doing #kidsdeserveit I hope we can do another when we finish! โค๏ธ๐#leadLAP
A2: Sometimes running out together is better than staying in! I work hard to create engaging inquiry lessons throughout the days inside. But, when we share highlights at each day's end, Ss often cite the outdoor ones. So, I must capitalize on it! #LeadLAP#cfiStorybookGarden
A4: We took a blah corner of our grounds and created this Peace Garden with our #Kindness Rocks. All students, staff and even families were invited to paint an inspirational rock for this serenity spot. Yay! #leadlap
A2: We have been using a combination of weekly and monthly incentives. Some staff members give shout outs or bring in breakfast treats to boost morale.
#leadlap
A4 working together my library Para @HardyJoycelyn and I have encouraged more reading by allowing students to come in anytime to get new books - once a week checkout is old school. #LeadLAP
A4: the monthly awards ceremony was stuffy and boring - only 1 kid per grade earned anything. Now itโs unlimited per grade, slideshow with pics of the month as they enter, music, special guests, and students line the hall to cheer e/o on as they enter! #LeadLAP
A4: The biggest impact I've had on my Ss this year is #flexibleseating . We're still growing & tweaking it, but my HS Ss are soooo much happier now! They LOVE my room! #LeadLAP
A4: We took a blah corner of our grounds and created this Peace Garden with our #Kindness Rocks. All students, staff and even families were invited to paint an inspirational rock for this serenity spot. Yay! #leadlap
A4) last year I was teaching in a lab...this year Iโm immersed in classrooms and live for co-teaching. There is nothing like coaching Ts to take risks right in front of their Ss-engagement is off the charts #leadlap
A4: We had a staff library that was only being used by a few ppl. We started book clubs & had ppl read then come in for dinner/discussion. We even brought some of the authors in to chat! Even though these weren't "traditional" pd, staff said they were their fav PDs! #leadlap
A3: At Christmas time we ordered jackets for all staff with school logo...teachers, educational assistants, Cafeteria ladies, custodians, maintenance staff...great feeling of togetherness. #leadlap
A4: We were inspired by @BethHouf & #LeadLAP and created an EPIC 1st day back for our Ts this year! We did a scavenger hunt around town & completed tasks and spread kindness in our community! We had the best time bonding with our Ts & reflecting on our passions!
A4: We were inspired by @BethHouf & #LeadLAP and created an EPIC 1st day back for our Ts this year! We did a scavenger hunt around town & completed tasks and spread kindness in our community! We had the best time bonding with our Ts & reflecting on our passions!
Q2: The key word is in the question: โcelebrateโ! We have bigger celebrations such as a burger bar for teachers following a collaborative inquiry visit. Teachers organized a celebratory assembly this week!
A3: We try to create opportunities to share our appreciation for each other. Yesterday we psited why we were โluckyโ to work with each other. Monthly informal whole staff lunches bring us together to share ideas. #LeadLAP
A4: We create experiences.
Since coming on in November weโve had assemblies and brought in our community to support and honor our students. Yesterday, @NathanMarquardt & @fightbobby visited #ParisSuns#LEADlap
In reply to
@burgess_shelley, @BethHouf, @NathanMarquardt, @fightbobby
A4: Turned our Thanksgiving Assembly into a Minute to Win It competition for staff. The staff have fun w/ the competition & the students love seeing their teachers playing the silly games. It gives us a chance to highlight our One Team! One Goal! No Limits! attitude! #LeadLAP
A4: NOTHING makes bus duty more FUN than wearing a special bus duty outfit! I had one complete w/custom sash, tiara, light up magic wand, & red Dorothy shoes! Stood in pkg lot b/c had drop off duty. LOVED it SO much!! Different setup at current schl. Parnts loved it too! #leadLAP
A4) Before working full time I volunteered time revamping our schools website. Way out-dated, esp for being known as a โtechnologyโ school!๐ฑ #LEADlap
A4: We are building on an already awesome partnership with @ProjectHarmony to add dance and design thinking classes with @CityHeartsLA, the Long Beach Arts Council. #LeadLAP
A4 - Sometimes I feel that the younger grades take these incredible ideas and run with them. Would love to see more of this at the secondary level. Never too old for fun and excitement. #leadLAP
A5: I have gone most totally mobile with my bag full of what I need. Started with a mobile desk, but quickly moved to the bag lady. So much easier! #LeadLAP
A5: We decided not to do state testing or teacher evaluations this year because we wanted to focus on the REAL work of schools - Teaching and Learning #IWish#JustKiddingNJ#Someday#LeadLAP
In our staff led/staff chosen PLCs, some were book clubs. They met every 2 weeks for 3 months (6 meetings total). That could be a way to start if you have the PD time. People really enjoyed them, and we had a variety of books/topics for people to choose from. #leadlap
A4: Somedays you show up dressed as a Superhero or your favorite NFL player.
Important to remember to have fun and not take yourself so seriously. #leadlap
A4 - Sometimes I feel that the younger grades take these incredible ideas and run with them. Would love to see more of this at the secondary level. Never too old for fun and excitement. #leadLAP
A5: Not really time saving, but doing morning and afternoon supervision allows time to casually talk to Ss & parents. Helps relationships & in the long run has a big impact. #LeadLAP
Q4: We created our fall parent only night events into one for everyone to celebrate the start of school: kids, parents & teachers all visit classrooms then have ice cream together outside. No more need for a babysitter, and all families get into classrooms right away!#LeadLAP
A4: At our bldg, Ss share good things in class. To vary this, I have students draw pictures instead on scraps of paper or have them do Flipgrids. I also have them comment on G-CR comment threads. I make big paper "quilts" out of the scraps of paper. #LEADlap
A5 check emails while popping in and out of classrooms. If you spend most of your time reacting to fires you need to be out about and I guarantee youโll see the smoldering and put it out before it starts. #LeadLAP
A5: I have committed to "staying above the fold" with email. I carve out a portion of each day for email. I either address the email in that time, delete it if it is unnecessary or copy/paste it into an "appointment" in my calendar to be handled later (prioritize). #LeadLAP
A4: I love bringing MAGIC to a lesson to engage my Ss!! No need to worksheets or boring lessons when you can create a memorable experience for your Ss! Thatโs what creates lasting learning! #LeadLAP
Not sure if itโs time saving but I have my cell phone alarm go off every hour to remind me to get out in the building and visit classrooms. This way I never get caught up with to much paper work. #Leadlap
A5) Honestly reminding myself and the Ts I work with that more does not equal better. Itโs not about increasing new things. Itโs about increasing impact. #leadlap
A5- found an idea for a Portable Principal on Twitter one day in the fall... and I've been wheeling around ever since. It really helps me to be out and about while I can sneak some paperwork in there, too. #LeadLAP
A5: Work/life balance & self-care is a priority. To make sure I can give the most time to my family during the week, I meal prep on Sundays. All my lunches/snacks are packed for the week so I can just grab & go. I've been doing it since early in my teaching career! #leadlap
A5- Not a technique but I ask myself, is this impacting learning on my campus? Does it align with the goals I have set? Can it be done later? If so, I refocus or recalculate my GPS. #LeadLAP
A5- found an idea for a Portable Principal on Twitter one day in the fall... and I've been wheeling around ever since. It really helps me to be out and about while I can sneak some paperwork in there, too. #LeadLAP
@burgess_shelley I had to give my AVID 4s the essay "A Modest Proposal", which includes the satyrical idea of eating babies. I gave them Sour Patch Kids to lighten up the experience. They may not get this love in college, but they are still mine! #LeadLAP#TeachLAP#ThisisAVID
A4: We took a blah corner of our grounds and created this Peace Garden with our #Kindness Rocks. All students, staff and even families were invited to paint an inspirational rock for this serenity spot. Yay! #leadlap
A5 A time saving technique for me has been using Seesaw for learning journals. I have Oral Fluency recordings, class debates, reading Check Ins all in Seesaw so I can do running records, formative assessments anywhere by listening/looking ๐ #LeadLAP
A5: This is the area I have been struggling... Loving these ideas of setting alarms, being more portable, etc! There is no reason I cannot be in a classroom with my laptop taking care of things while being with my Ss and Ts! I will get better here! #LeadLAP
A5: I use @voxer to communicate with everyone and is so much better than email. I am out of the office visiting schools and not tied to my desk #leadlap
Q5: I have students do essays on G-slides. Each slide is a paragraph, but Ss don't realize it. I can put comments in speaker's notes in speech to text as I am on the treadmill. #LEADlap
Q5: Having a calendar with #purpose. Blocking out time for supporting teaching and learning in the morning, and saving paperwork and phone calls for later in the afternoon (and evening). #LeadLAP
A5 - Great quote: โIf we canโt show, tell or explain why something is important, why should students feel that itโs important to them?โ #LeadLAP
A6: Easy - you support them. When Ts have an idea, you say "cool, how can we help you make that happen"? And then others see the success and it grows! #LeadLAP
A5) Sometimes I ask myself, if I worded this differently or asked this question, would my Ss be able to do the investigating. Sometimes out of wanting to give an answer, I give work that the Ss could actually benefit from doing instead. #differentiation#LEADlap
A5: For me itโs all about aligning what I do every day with my principles as an educator and with best practices. If itโs not best for my students, itโs out. If itโs required, I will give it very minimal time if it is not whatโs best for students. #leadlap
A5 I quit checking email every 10 mins. I set aside time to do work like that, but prioritize getting around to classes. Emails have decreased bc I am able to answer ?s while I visit and see Ss. #leadlap
A5: Empower the teachers and staff in your building!!! You don't need to lead every meeting or PD. Coach and encourage your staff to share resources, visit each other, model a strategy in PD, run a meeting, plan a celebration, etc. #leadlap
#LeadLap | The only way to make your school more amazing and any community, organization is through people that are truly committed to the cause that care and will not just talk and look, but act and involve those that matter and do the same.
