A3: I love visiting the homes of my students before school starts. It gives me a great perspective. I also give them their 1st 'assignment'. They love it. #tlap
A2: I've had older students email me through work and we've kept in touch that way. I also run into them often at sporting events which is always nice to see them grown up. I'm planning on walking in graduation next year when my first third grade class graduates! #tlap
A3: We have popsicles on the playground over the summer so they can come out and play and spend time at school and connect with staff who drop by #tlap
A3: I’m praying for them now! I’m making a huge jump from first to fifth grade, and hoping I connect with the big kids as easily as I do with the Littles. #tlap
A3: Offering opportunities for a meet and greet. Or share information and invite families to follow you on different forms of social media! It depends on the size of the community you are working in. The larger the community, the more difficult it could be! #TLAP
A3: How about a "flipped" open house?? It helps build relationships with students, why not use the same method to build relationships with parents? #tlap
I teach high school. I’ve learned that having good relationships with my previous group of students translates to starting off on the right foot. This isn’t how it has always been. I always cared, but in the last few years, I haven’t held it so close to my chest. #tlap
#tlap The moment my rosters are finalized and live- send a welcome letter and ask students and parents to share their aspirations and desires for their year. Then have a get to know you time during open house. Give them a chance to say hi before the 1st day of class.
A3 Already working in this one! There will be some @Flipgrid imtroductions/sharing during the summer with students/parents. Also getting welcome packages (more than letters) ready to send out for mid summer. Starting some fun challenges early! PIRATE fun times! Watch out! #tlap
A3) every year, I send my future students and families a google form. It is so important to me to get to know students and families before the school year begins. I get a little obsessive checking the submissions and I get so excited when I see a new one 😁 #tlap
A3: Start by reflecting on what went well this year and how to improve. Build a strong staff culture during the sum. Get my PD on- #BoldSchool book study, @mradamwelcome@sheehyrw presentation in MO, and podcasts w/ @renathunderhawk#ShareMOEdu. Meet Ss with new drive day 1 #tlap
A3: Postcards over the summer, I’m thinking of starting my home visits over the summer this year...I’ve had many of my up-and-coming Ss in 1st grade, but I want them to be SUPER-excited to get me again...I am!!😁#tlap
I hope to have the opportunity for students to get to know me and see me as a real person they can connect with. I'm a mother of two toddlers and live a crazy family life. I want them to see that side of me too. Social media maybe? #TLAP
I teach high school. I’ve learned that having good relationships with my previous group of students translates to starting off on the right foot. This isn’t how it has always been. I always cared, but in the last few years, I haven’t held it so close to my chest. #tlap
A3 Been thinking about this question A LOT. I plan to ask Ss to send me a video sharing a strength, passion, an area they’d like help in and also an answer to this question: “what would your ideal school day look like?” Of course I will share my own video too:) #tlap
A3 Ooh, good question. We usually don't get class lists till the beginning of the year, but hoping this year is different. Looking forward to hearing ideas. #tlap
If there are any pirates who are early risers in the Quad Cities, I’m hosting #CoffeeEDU in Davenport IA tomorrow morning 7-8am Starbucks on Kimberly Ave Feel free to DM me #tlap
A3: I’ve always made a point to be seen &learn every child’s name in the school. No matter what I start my morning in the hall fist bumping& connecting with as many students as possible. Huge help when I get my list &already have those connections. They already know I care. #tlap
Since I teach 1st graders, I follow those parents that initiate. I speak to the student via their parents. This way everything is available for their parents to see.#tlap
#tlap A3: I could send out a questionnaire to the students. I would use the school's email. Since my curriculum revolves around the interests, talents, and career choices of students, I would write questions about these ideas.
A3. I love sending letter to them. Yes, using snail mail (I am the writing teacher 😉). It's a fun way to connect with them before meet the teacher. This year I'll include a stamp, so they can write back if they like. #tlap
A3- I love mailing them little notes before the school year starts! I teach Kinders so I am generally their first "real school" experience. I want it to be fabulous! During meet and greet I take a few notes about something they mentioned so I can revisit it the first day! #tlap
A3: making meet the teacher videos for parents and ss. Also had my former ss do a @Flipgrid and making an infomercial of some sort about my class. Sending it to ss before the year begins, now that I know how to generate list of emails from our grading platform! #TLAP
A3: As a reading specialist, I don’t have my own classroom but I’ve thought of sending messages to our Ts in preparation of our return to school, maybe like an invitation to come visit us in the “coaching room” what do you think @khoggardGRT#TLAP
A3 Already started! As a resource teacher in a coteach/small group/pull out model just about any kid could be one of "mine" someday. I make it a point to be visible to everyone. I also know two new kinders next year and I went and hung out in their PK class a few times. #tlap
A3 end of year survey asking for the Ss to introduce themselves to the next year's Ts using flipgrid for video introductions, filling in the old interest inventories via Google forms creating a type of personal life video sharing pictures of family pets and interests/hobies #tlap
A1: I have not yet read Teach Like a Pirate and I just got a copy, so looking forward to reading that
I'm currently reading a book about wealth and poverty by @kvministries#LearnLAP#TLAP
In reply to
@Stella_Pollard, @PaulSolarz, @kvministries
A3 I meet my new students and their families in the summer at our orientation day at the Naval War College. I then connect again when I test the Ss for English level. We then meet again for our new student orientation day. #tlap
A3 We do face Facebook pages the first day, and go outside with a beach ball and answer questions. I have sent post ads to incoming freshman. I always go to orientation.#tlap
A3: Since I teach in a specialized area my class list is basically set so I could send welcome cards in the mail addressed to them. It is something I have always wanted to do but never have...I guess there is no time like the present! #tlap
A3: As an Instructional Coach, I have already met with all incoming teachers. I spent time getting to know them, their goals, fears, and shared district resources and where to find things. I helped them make contact with their peers. It was awesome! #tlap
#tlap A2 The power of social media! I have former Ss in their 20's who follow me on Facebook and Twitter to check out my #AlwaysBelieve posts. I use my social media platform as a way to spred POSITIVE and INSPIRATIONAL posts. Something our kids need!
A3 Because of our 1:1 Program, I get to interact w/ new 6th and 9th grade students before many of their teachers when they get their devices. Helps build trust in the tech department! #edtech#tlap
A3 #tlap Since my class is blended/flipped it will be cool to give them some fun activities on Canvas before I see them- a podcast/vodcast introduction and give them a chance to post cool bios of themselves
A3: our school has an open house for 7th graders to come in and meet teachers and @NRMSCounselor has created opportunities for 8th grade mentors to work with incoming 7th graders to tour the building and open lockers throughout he summer. - #tlap
A2- we are implementing @SmorePages to better communicate with our staff through summer. We are asking staff to share their vacations pics with school gear. Staff are also sharing summer PD pics. We will post in Smore #tlap
A3 (1/2) I live w/ one of my future Ss--my son! So I see him and his friends around. Several of my rising 7th & 8th grdrs held an informal middle school orientation the last wk of school for these rising 6th grdrs, so I've checked in w/ them to see if they have Qs. #tlap
A3: #tlap Once I have my class list I can either send them personalized notes, a little story about me and our class, or even create and event at a park to get to know the kids and the families. :)
I’ve taught fifth-graders for 11 years now! The age can be awesome, old enough to have deep and thoughtful reading and conversations, yet young enough to still have enthusiasm about coming to school and give hugs! #tlap#masdtlap
A3: social media is such a powerful promotional tool for your school. If you know who your new students are, invite parents to your social media - school page, Twitter, instagram, whatever floats your boat. #tlap
A3: We have all incoming 3rd graders come & visit each classroom for a welcome & preview, to ask any questions they may have. During the summer some students come to see their classroom & locker early on their own. We meet them at their own comfort level and go from there! #tlap
A3: I post on my class FB over the summer so families can see what’s in the works for BOY! As soon as I get my list, I work on postcards to send home to families welcoming Ss into my class! #tlap
A3 I work to develop relationships with all Ss in the building! High fives, hugs, fist bumps, learning all their names this year makes for an exciting return to school in Sept #tlap
Bringing the families in for the fun is so important! Making them feel at home, even before the first day, makes for better communication throughout the year! #tlap
#tlap A2 The power of social media! I have former Ss in their 20's who follow me on Facebook and Twitter to check out my #AlwaysBelieve posts. I use my social media platform as a way to spread POSITIVE and INSPIRATIONAL posts. Something our kids need!
A3 I don't have a set class list, but all my "reg ed" colleagues get their lists about three weeks before the end of the year. Then we do a school-wide Meet Your Teacher event for like 30 min on the last day of school. It's INVALUABLE! #tlap
☠️✨ USE #EDTECH TO CONNECT! ☠️✨
I plan to use @Flipgrid combined with
@RemindHQ to send out a couple of
get-to-know-you grid questions and
#TLAP teasers about our #XPLAP
classroom game! ☠️✨
A3 - we did something last summer we called pop-up bbqs. A local church had a grill in the back of a pick up and we literally drove to different parts of town handing out hot dogs and talking to community members. It was so fun! #tlap
I used to send home postcards and personal letters. Many of them would put them in their folders and keep them there all year. It was such a great icebreaker. #tlap
If possible spend time with them the year before, send notes out over summer. I sent a letter home with QR code to watch a video message I created for them #tlap
A4: Having luncheons over the summer to stay connected and discuss what is happening. Also, just simply texting or emailing is a way to easily stay connected. #tlap
A3: As soon as I get my class list,I call all of my families, introduce myself, tell them about Back-to-School Night, ask them if they have any questions, and finally, ask them to tell me one thing about their child. That way I know something about the Ss before school starts #tlap
Q3: As a team building activity in the summer, our staff visited the houses of families in small groups on a neighborhood scavenger hunt to get feedback from the families on what our school had been doing well & how we could improve. Really cool experience for all involved! #tlap
That video is amazing! What an awesome way for your students to know you care and are excited for them to get there! I’m not sure if my principal would do that but I sure can send something out to my science students the week before! So fun! #tlap
A4: We give our new staff a swag bag filled with spirit wear, goodies, #tlap and connection ideas. We also have a Google Classroom group of FMS 101 including social meet ups all summer long. #tlap
A4 social media makes staying connected easy! Professional development opportunities over the summer such as Ed camps Twitter chats or book studies help keep us connected #tlap
A4 This year, I am staying active on social media. Also, I have found that summer is the perfect time to get a cup of coffee with a colleague you don’t know very well yet. #tlap
A4: I LOVE my current colleagues and I'm joining a new school next year and already looking forward to loving them! We're planning a day in late June to get together and I'm looking forward to more opportunities to collaborate and connect #tlap
A4: In the past, many of my staff worked summer programs so I was with them every day. This year, I'll have to be more purposeful. I have done a Summer Learning series where we get together 2 nights and do some learning #tlap Food is available.
A3. I know when the year begins I am going to share my life outside of school more than I have in the past. My family, my interests, my funniest home movies side. #tlap
A4 I am thinking of using #flipgrid. Sent out a link to a #flipgrid Question of the Week to my campus this spring. May continue it, but not every week. Not sure that some Ts check their email during the summer! #TLAP
A4: That's an easy one. We're a small staff so everyone knows everyone. We always do at least one formally scheduled get together over the summer, then informal meetups as the summer goes along. We also have a FB group that functions as a big old merry group chat! #tlap
A4. We have group msgs that keep the conversation flowing all summer long. Also I make an effort to meet up with coworkers/friends over summer break. @MrsHankinsClass you ready??? #tlap
#tlap A4: Some get together for fun stuff a couple of times over the summer, some call/text just to check in. We have a FB group chat that runs off and on over the year as we think of fun stuff to share. Again SOCIAL MEDIA has changed the game
It really isn’t about the future, it’s about what you’re doing NOW. Just because summer is here, doesn’t mean you can’t reflect, process, and continue learning. In fact, it’s your moral duty. #edchat#tlap
#tlap We have a Facebook page where the whole faculty shares their summer experiences. My team and I stay connected via text & email. We share new books and ideas for our next school year. We start sharing lessons via google doc when we get closer to school
A3- we attend the 8th graduation, host a 8th to 9th grade Transisiton Camp for 3 days. Staff and Upper class man lead the sessions on a variety of topics. Frosh orientation, building tours. #tlap
It's quite good for both me and the students. And there is always a student or two who I didn't expect to hear from that completely surprises me! #tlap
Who uses summative interviews? - wanting to do this with a Senior Nutrition class (not math, this time). How do I go about it? How do they prepare? How do I prepare? What am I looking for? #tlap#MTBoS@gcouros@ajjuliani
This is BRILLIANT! I am getting to hire 7 new teachers this summer (over 1/3 of a teaching staff!), so this will be an epic way to keep everyone connected! #tlap
A4: We give our new staff a swag bag filled with spirit wear, goodies, #tlap and connection ideas. We also have a Google Classroom group of FMS 101 including social meet ups all summer long. #tlap
Q3- That's one of the best things about Google Classroom...Kids can continue to share & connect through the summer & friendships are strengthened, ready for the new year...Lots of fun to share photos, videos, artwork, writings, etc. Ts get to know kids in a different way #tlap
A4: last week a group of us went to CPSIPC18 conference and heard @gcouros speak - a great learning opportunity. We also stay connected through Twitter. #tlap
A4: Our family is off on a new adventure! A new school, new city, new house! My plan is to connect w/ all of the wonderful staff members who have offered to help us move (even though we haven’t even MET yet!) & invite them over for coffee instead of putting them to work. 😉 #tlap
#tlap A4 its Winter in oz, I attend regular coffee meets when I can with some of my PLN. Some of these are virtual as well! We discuss all things education and more.
A4 social media, twitter, invitations to attend PD together, setting up times to map next year together, book clubs, tacoedu, and sometimes just hanging at the beach with some peeps #tlap
A4: I made a Google Classroom with prescheduled topics that I know teachers in our building are wondering or need support with! I’ve shared the link through our staff Facebook group and of course I plan to ask colleagues to go out and enjoy our “self-care” time together #tlap
A4: Hoping to get some of them Tweeting with our #tweetforthesummer challenge. I am going to hold open office hours at least once per week. We will have some goal setting for next year and some hiring committees... Would love some fun ideas for social get togethers too! #tlap
A4: The staff in my school stay connected all summer long, we’re so lucky! We text, email, plan get-togethers, and talk ALL the time about new teaching ideas. This summer we’ll be particularly busy as we build new ELA curriculums together. Can’t wait! #tlap#masdtlap
A4 Keep that PLN strong online. As #techdir I try to offer voluntary PD for Ts during the summer. We've made it work whereever and however, even for staff out of state using Google Hangouts. #tlap
A4: It's nice having Twitter now. Lot's happening over the summer in PD sessions have been posted & we can see what others are doing & support them! Meeting up for lunch & check-ins via text message & pics is always nice too! There are so many ways now to keep in touch! #tlap
A4 Use social media to follow everyone’s story. As a leader, use parts of that story in welcome back activities. A staff, a school, is a family. We need to honor the breaks, the memories, the pictures. Use those pictures to fill staff lounge. Make it their 2nd home. #tlap
#tlap A3 make memories during the summer that you can share with your Ss in the fall. My first day of school is AMAZING! I hvae video photage of me getting caught on a trapeze, a photo of a hole in one plaque, I share my map of highlighted roads travelled down. LOVE IT!
A4: In the past, we’ve done “Think Tanks” over the summer! Meet once a week for lunch at a local restaurant (to support our community partners) & we’d brainstorm ideas for upcoming year! It was productive but also an opportunity to connect with our work family! #tlap
Dear #tlap, Moment of gentle push-back, even as I know we're not talking all-or-nothing dynamics: What about deliberately dis-connecting from students or colleagues, then reuniting with new stories to tell on other side of summer? Sincerely, Introverted Deckhand
A4: We are attending Ann hot of district professional development conferences together as colleagues and I’m also hosting a Creativity & Innovation twitter challenge to promote adult exploration! #tlap
A4: I have been working at the same school for 22 years and I love my work family. We try to have get togethers when we can - lunch, coffee, a Brewers game, an escape room, book clubs...the list is endless! Thank goodness for social media so we know what’s going on! #tlap
A4 would love to stay connected to discover & discuss the BAM that will get each of us running back in the fall. Plan to share quick book and podcast talks before school is out to spark more interest in the amazing learning we have at our fingertips. #tlap
I mean if you can't organize a hang out at the beach then there's no hanging out anywhere! I'm mega-jealous! If there's a more therapeutic place than a beach I haven't found it yet. #tlap
A4: I am leading a summer book study on @voxer and have been thinking about a breakout room experience for my science dept at the beginning of the year! Love the bingo selfie idea or a staff @Flipgrid#tlap
#tlap A4: Twitter, Tweet out Challenges, PopUP Summer Learning Sessions (going to try and talk colleagues into joining me), Email Digital Gameboard with Selfie Challenge, Book Club, PD On-Demand website
A2: I sent self-addressed empty note cards & stickers home w/ each of my Ss. I encouraged then to write me (and I would write back). One wk into summer vacation and I'm already getting my first responses! #323reads#tlap
A4: #coffeeEDU, Twitter, Voxer, #EDUwalks, and just being intentional about getting together to just enjoy each other’s company and have some summer fun! #tlap
A4: Adding on— summer allows us time to genuinely interact through activities we may not have as much time for during the school year. Take advantage of a colleague having similar interests- build relationships that last outside your classroom #tlap
A3. Not sure if anyone already said this, but I would send a letter letting families know I would be calling and call each of the kids to introduce myself before day 1. I wanted them to know how excited I was to be their T. #tlap
A3. As a T, I also went to recess to play with kids who were going to be in my grade the next year. Build relationships before they enter your class. I wanted to make sure kids wanted to be in my class. RELATIONSHIPS matter always. #tlap
This is almost non existent at my school. A few friends get together in small group but not whole staff. Our school only has a P& F FB Page . This has to change for our end of year Summer #tlap
#tlap. A4: Last couple of years it has been inviting to Flipgrids as well as personal time together, e.g. hiking. Talk naturally turns to teaching and learning, it seems!
A5: I just stop by central office to chat. I feel like during the school year I only get to do that when there are issues. It's nice to be at a slower pace! #tlap
Absolutely. Eventually you'll have to tell each of those kids to stop doing something they aren't supposed to do. I find that first time goes a lot better when they know who you are!!! #tlap
A5: As an 11-month employee, my admins get a little extra special time with yours truly - hahaha! Poor @goinssh & @_MatthewWhite - that is time to brainstorm culture building and unify the vision! #tlap
#TLAP A4: Honestly, I could work on this more. I have a few colleagues that I see over the summer(coffee, movie, day at the lake, cards/game night). Others are connected through Facebook , Instagram &Twitter. Will make effort to include/invite other colleagues to socialize.
A5: I am honestly struggling with this question but I think just simply stopping to say hello and inviting them to different events that you could be attending #tlap
A5: So thankful that @KGT_Educator and @ERobbPrincipal are so approachable! Hope is to show my investment in our school and our community together. :) #tlap
A5: As a "dreamer" I have lots of crazy ideas. I sent off my first crazy idea to admin last night and welcome feedback and thoughts. Instead of going to staff and building from the ground-up on things, I want admin to know they are critical to the success of whatever I do. #tlap
Q4: With Team Remind & group messages, showing love for each other & our activities on Facebook, sending texts just to say hi. Emails to everyone with school celebrations & announcing those joining our school family as new hires! Did a Twitter selfie challenge last summer. #tlap
A5 I want to give my administrators their space - they need a break too, but would love to be able to have conversations about exciting things for the fall. #tlap
A5: I really like face-to-face interactions so I would say it's a great idea to talk in person! Conversations in the hallways, staff room, or anywhere else! Be open, friendly, and above all, be yourself! #TLAP
A4 Twitter, Summer socials, Voxer, texting, informal meet-ups for coffee, book studies, shopping, happy hours, you name it--we make time to hang in the summer. #tlap#LEADlap
A5: I’m looking forward to attending a conference in TX next week with my admin! It will be a great time of learning & connecting! Excited to work together to bring a plan back for the rest of our school family in the fall! #tlap
A5: I am honestly struggling with this question but I think just simply stopping to say hello and inviting them to different events that you could be attending #tlap
A4: I moonlight as a summer school principal and I love being able to connect with T’s I otherwise do not get to see in action and it’s half day. Lunch with colleagues leads to amazing brainstorms. #tlap
#tlap A5 Discuss ideas with them to receive feedback or share documents that I am working on during the summer. I want to know how I can improve as a teacher, but I also want to discuss new educational ideas I have.
A5 A book study and discussion. When you want to create a relationship & foster innovation, creativity, transformation, nothing is better than sharing reading, discussions, memories. Time to encourage some amazing PD. I know just what to gift! Celebrate admin too! #tlap
Last week was awesome! Every week gets better and better! Love this #tlap community! Check out the blog for some awesome insight into last week! #scsed#NCDLCN#LeadLAP#culturematters
A5 As an admin I strive to build rapport and trust with my staff. At the district level, it goes a long way to be aware of who is doing something amazing over the summer (everyone), what they are doing, and to ask for details. Stop and take time to listen! #tlap
A5: I want to dive deep into pd and work on project that I was tasked with by my supt. I'm looking forward to more research and strategic planning. #tlap
I am going to try some read alouds using Facebook Live this summer. Also, just being involved in the city by showing up to the different festivals they offer... The kids love to see us outside of our school roles! #tlap
Now that I have worked for 1 year along side of my principal, as building coordinator and teacher, I have many ideas. My principal and I plan on getting together a few times this summer to discuss my ideas, and others from the teachers. #tlap
A5: this should be a subtopic for Q4: Admin are people too! They are always invited to our summer sociables, because I’d like to think they miss us too. At least at our little school. #tlap
A5 working with our Administration is very easy. We informally plan for what's best for our staff and for our students all the time! We stay connected on social media throughout the summer and share ideas on Twitter. We support each other as much as possible! #tlap
A4 our Ts in central Indiana have PD available to us for two days at eLEAD 2018 and the two days of coding, and then ELA development they also text, call and are in buildings. (Mark from IN- #tucson) #tlap
I feel like such a creeper, but tonight I took my staff list and added all my colleagues on Facebook. It felt like a good way to connect this summer prior to the new school year since I am brand new to the school. #TLAP
Thanks! I think that we often take the mentality of us vs them. However, success isn't a me thing, it's a we thing. My students are their students as well. It's a team effort to educate. #tlap
A5: Our leadership team attends the district wide administrator’s conference together and we meet one day and map out a vision for the year- this year we will be discussing a book study as well #TLAP
A4: I’m moving to a new school this summer. I’m already looking at taking some trainings with my teammate just to get to know her and try to work on building a relationship. #tlap
A5: Well, 1 of my Admin buds & I will be brainstorming/developing a new cafeteria strategy where the volume in the cafeteria is quieter, kids eat more & waste less, & the experience is less stressful for duties & Ss. Have an effective process at your school, please share! #tlap
A5: Well, I just applied for a local assistant principal role... so my hope is I will be doing this from the flip side. Using summer to build the partnership with the newly hired principal and make connections with as many staff & families as possible before day 1, #tlap
HAHAHAHA! I did that last year! Creep away, my friend! Creep away! Learn their kids' names and see what you have in common! Build those relationships! #tlap
A5: Very excited to help plan our district’s Admin Advance with a focus on mindfulness and the importance of taking care of yourself first before you can take care of your staffs! Super pumped to have @adamsteaching keynote! #tlap
Jay inspires educators to “go for it” as they explore their passion! This book should be required reading for everyone entering the field. I am savoring each chapter and it’s filling up with Post-it notes of amazing thoughts and ideas! #LeadLAP#TLAP 👏👏👏👏👏

A5: Hand deliver Starbucks to her door and offer to help! I’m lucky that I’ll be learning with her during my ed. Leadership practicum this summer!
Sitting on interview committees also helps build that trust and rapport! #tlap
A5: I’m looking forward to traveling to Boston and learning with my administrator at Project Zero Classroom and collaborating with other admin on a design thinking presentation. #tlap
A5 As a brand new admin, I am happy to have experienced, knowledgable & generous colleagues to turn to for information, support & ideas. Lucky to have @JayBilly2@KathrynMRobbins@MNLockett to turn to! Summer is a great time to pick brains, question actively & listen loads #tlap
A5: Very excited to help plan our district’s Admin Advance with a focus on mindfulness and the importance of taking care of yourself first before you can take care of your staffs! Super pumped to have @adamsteaching keynote! #tlap
A2 I encourage all my students to send me pictures of what they've accomplished in the summer. When they've graduated, I accept friend requests on Social Media and celebrate in their life events. #tlap
A5 I will be attending the admin conference again this summer with my administration... looking forward to mapping a plan for our building for next year! #tlap

All the #FlipGrid chat makes me wonder about summer @FlipGrid connections between all us #tlap all-stars. Similar to the Twitter chats... but maybe a weekly question with our responses. Just an idea... maybe being done already!
A3: we do a bump up day the final day of school so Ss can meet “next years” teachers, but throughout the year our multi-grade level CASA groups build relationships w/ Ss & Ts and we also visit the community over the summer bringing ice cream to our kids and families. #tlap
I’m going to send a small “thank you” interoffice mail this next week to show my thanks for all of their hard work & support this last school year to get things done for our students. They don’t hear thanks as much as they should! #tlap
A5: I’m lucky to have a Director of Curriculum who is always approachable and reaches out to teachers about what goes on in our classrooms. We’re working on an ELA curriculum this summer, and I can’t wait to get started! #masdtlap#tlap
A5 We are a Canvas district and are nurturing canvas in the high schools. I would like to have a canvas work session for admins to allow them time to have Q&A and explore. #TLAP
A6: @SmorePages are a great way to say hello! Here is our first 6th grade newsletter that went out at the beginning of the summer: https://t.co/5tmDuFumG4#tlap
Q5. I want to do Frisby Golf PD. Listen to podcast or read something and discuss our learning and how we will apply as we play 18 holes. Build knowledge and most importantly build relationships. #tlap
A6: I think I am a broken record tonight. LOL Use your social media presence to connect with kids and their parents over the summer. Share what you are reading. Give clues about what the school year will be like. Hook them in with a mystery... #TLAP
We practice what we call RBL at our middle school... Recess Before Lunch. The idea is go run and play, them calm down, eat slow, don’t scarf and hurry out to play... Kids are much more calm upon returning to class... #tlap
A6: We're using Team Drive in Google to write notes about our #tlap Book Study and sharing #BookSnaps as we find powerful stuff in the book (which seems to be every third word)
I might just add that that downtime/social time is important. My son's school limits talking at lunch and he is miserable. Just something to consider. #tlap
A6: There are endless opportunities. Instagram, Padlet, Facebook, email and much more. I feel like the main way we can use technology to stay connected is through pictures that we can share with one another #tlap
I have been using apps like @seesaw and @gonoodle to engage with students and share in summer fun! I like to create fun challenges to inspire Ss to get active...they will have to be if they want to beat me! 😂 #tlap
a6: get humble, take on a personal tech challenge where you will be forced to seek out help from others, consider it like anthropology, be the student full of inquiry #tlap
A1) I tried promoting and starting the @Scholastic summer reading in my class where students log their reading hours online. I also handed out books and short stories for them to take home and read #tlap
A6: Green screen videos each Friday just like the school year! My wheels are turning @renathunderhawk! We could send updates about progress on renovations @MapleWarriors, ideas from pd, and promote upcoming events in town! #BOOM#ShareMOEdu#tlap@DoInkTweets
A6 Can’t talk digital & relationships without using @Flipgrid and @Twitter Two amazing tools. But challenge staff to challenges with videos, apps and more throughout the summer. Share their results, fun, responses. Connect beyond school/classroom. Make learning/work fun! #tlap
A6: Looking forward to doing a voxer book study with our admin team. Also, I don't know how long I could go with out talking with my #tlap#leadlap#learnlap#boldschool and #cultureed crews!
A5) I will be receiving a new educational leader. They are interviewing potential leaders this week. I will warmly welcome them aboard and see how I can aid in their transition. #tlap
I’m going to send a small “thank you” interoffice mail this next week to show my thanks for all of their hard work & support this last school year to get things done for our students. They don’t hear thanks as much as they should! #tlap
A6: Again, I think social media is the perfect tool to boost relationships over the summer! Share with students, parents, other teachers, etc. And make sure they are being encouraged to share as well! #TLAP
A6 In my opinion, @Flipgrid is the easiest platform to learn and the most versatile. I sent my outgoing seniors a graduation message. I think next year, I would like to set up a grid for incoming students. It would be a great place for incoming AP students to pose ?’s. #tlap
#TLAP -A6: last year a lot of took the same online math PD because we shared with each other that it was happening. Twitter chats are great for this and I'm sure there will be more online PD that we will share. My grade partner and I are also getting together to prep&plan.
#tlap A6: Start a vlog about new educational ideas, make all the curriculum digital, and design two books, one about aligning the HS curriculum and the other documenting what I will teach next year. Oh, wait, that's what I am doing this summer.

A3 The minute I have my class list, invites are sent to students to join the Google Classroom. Then I regularly post countdown images to show their classroom, welcoming those who've accepted the invite and showing how excited I am to begin. #tlap
A6: I share ideas/tools that are building specific that will enhance T dvpmt and Ss lrng. Admin always so busy during school year, this is a time for them to preview ideas/resources I want to share w their Ts. Every building has diff needs/focus #tlap
A6: Class FB page, twitter, & @Flipgrid!! I also correspond with individual families on @RemindHQ!! It’s a great way to stay connected & see what everyone is up to over the summer! #tlap
A6:☠️✨STAFF VOXER GROUP✨☠️
Can you hear me?!
It'd be super fun to boost staff relationships
with a Voxer Group or anything similar
(SC, FB, Twitter DM, etc.)! ☠️✨#TLAP
A6 I encourage parents to follow class FB page. I post updates, ppl can scroll through feed to see previous yrs learning. I'll also send @SmorePages to introduce myself w/ google form embedded parent questionnaire #tlap
A6: I think posting on twitter, Instagram, or Facebook is a great way to stay in touch. It seems like setting up a flipgrid for intros is a gteat idea as well. #tlap
A6: Create a voxer group and have a summer book study and use it to collaborate and share ideas, even as a way to invite colleagues over for summer get-togethers. #tlap
I just started here on @Twitter and am loving how useful it is in finding PLNs and engaging in conversations and challenges! I plan to use this in my classroom in the fall. #tlap
A6 social media is your friend! Create a Facebook page just for the Ts in your building, send flipgrid messages to one another, create a shared padlet where everyone can post pictures of their vacation and things they're doing over summer to keep up-to-date and connected #tlap
A6: Sharing ideas/resources with my admins through the various tools/resources I want their Ts & Ss to use. Want them to "experience" the learning processes/resources #tlap
A6: This year we’ve implemented google drive as well as google plus, we have a school FB page, more teachers are joining Twitter. I’d love to use @flipgrid to have Ts record something they’ve done over the summer. I also love the idea of doing a @Twitter challenge #TLAP
#tlap A6: Google Hangout learning sessions, Google Doc BINGO and teachers comment, Selfie Adventure via Twitter, Voxer book study, or Pecha Kucha Ignite Evening (anyone want to plan this with me?).
A6. Posting what you do over summer break (yes, even the little things) help people feel connected and part of your life. I love love LOVE what @NowakRo said about challenges! Those are always fun!! #tlap
A6:Right now Twitter is my big go to tech boost in PD ideas & discussions like this in PLC's! Just joined a few months ago & learning more about this space is important to me. I also want to have a class Instagram page next year so learning that is on my summer tech agenda! #tlap
A6) Great question. Are we saying relationships with colleagues or future students? Colleagues- keep them in the loop i.e., texting and going on outings. Ss- using Instagram & Twitter & Flipgrid #tlap
Was reminded of this last week during our staff closing circle. Two different staff members mentioned a “text” and a “voice mail” I had sent/left when they first arrived. I didn’t realize just how much they meant to them. #relationships#tlap
A6: I'd love to find a book study to get involved in this summer. Been wanting to try Voxer if anyone knows of any? Picked up Lead with Culture, Culturize, and Better Than Sticks and Carrots to read! #tlap
A6: I think I am a broken record tonight. LOL Use your social media presence to connect with kids and their parents over the summer. Share what you are reading. Give clues about what the school year will be like. Hook them in with a mystery... #TLAP
A6 I plan to continue using Twitter, I'm hoping Ss will continue posting - many have in the past. I have a blog that I plan to continue writing. I also plan to continue following some Ss who have created blogs. One Ss has started a book chat #jmssreads hoping that continues #tlap
A6 Twitter, Voxer, the norms but I really think Instagram is great for staying connected via images of families and summer events. #tlap#LEADlap
Also, @Flipgrid would be super fun.
A6 My job as #techdir is all about finding how #edtech can improve everything we do as humans: instruction, interaction, inquiry, innovation, invention... I need to remember to make sure to bring humans into the fold to validate what we're testing! #tlap
